Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Public Service Announcement
The Bingham Group recently won a five-year contract with the State of Tennessee, Department of Homeland Security, to create a methamphetamine awareness campaign to include radio, television and visual print media. As part of this contract, The Bingham Group developed a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) about the dangers and consequences of making methamphetamine. Specifically, the PSA deals with newer, stricter laws regarding making meth around children. After thoroughly researching the subject matter and the new methamphetamine laws, the agency began concept creation and storyboards. The video focuses on a mother involved in making meth being sentenced to jail and losing her child as a result of her actions. The Bingham Group selected talent and music for the PSA, as well as custom-created graphics to enhance the PSA’s message. The project was completed in-house by utilizing the agency’s own broadcast production facilities. In addition to creating the video, The Bingham Group is responsible for media buys and distribution to media outlets throughout the State.

The three year campaign included outdoor advertising, social media, radio and television commercials, and other forms of non-traditional media. It targeted counties in Tennessee with high rates of children removed from homes due to meth-related cases and counties with the highest number of meth lab seizures. The number of children removed from homes in Tennessee decreased 30.1 percent from 2013 to 2014; the number of meth labs seized in Tennessee fell by 24.7 percent in that same time period.

“The purpose of the campaign was to communicate the consequences of violating tougher meth laws passed under Governor Haslam’s administration. The new legislation enacted stiffer penalties for manufacturing meth in the presence of children and for purchasing pseudoephedrine for unlawful purposes,” Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said. Gibbons chairs the subcabinet. “The television ads were very effective and emotionally described the heartbreaking toll that meth manufacturing and use can take on a family.”

Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church The Bingham Group designed a beautiful, graphic collage that stretches across the church’s Mission Hall, which is 15 feet high and 350 feet long. Scenes of missionaries working with local and international people scale the mural, while the copy depicts the countries served, the mission work in progress and coordinating Bible verses. Lisa Bingham, owner of The Bingham Group, is thrilled with the outcome of the piece and says, “I prayerfully considered how to best communicate the heartbeat of the CSPC missions ministry. It has been a blessing to be able to use my team’s talent to help advance the vision of the missions department. I pray that the artwork will be a strong communication tool for the church for years to come.” CSPC is excited about the work and hopes to reconnect people to their ultimate calling of loving God, one another and the world.

With the theme of “connect,” The Bingham Group helped illustrate the response ORAU has had throughout the world in times of need. Not only does ORAU help in dire times, but we also showed how ORAU connects with medical centers and trains them on how to be prepared in extreme emergencies. The CDC, which activated their Joint Information Center within 24 hours of the crisis, realized they would need additional subject matter experts and asked ORAU health education specialists to help with the dissemination of radiation emergency information to the public.
ORAU’s health communication team partnered with the CDC to host “Bridging the Gaps: Public Health and Radiation Emergency Preparedness,” a national conference with forums for discussing the current state of radiation emergency preparedness, including gaps and barriers, at the local, state and federal levels.
In the eight weeks after the Japan earthquake and tsunami, ORAU’s REAC/TS team responded to more than 200 calls related to the medical effects of radiation.
With only a few days to mobilize, ORAU’s environmental assessment team performed a comprehensive, three-week-long radiological verification survey of a maritime transport ship that had been located off the coast of Japan at the time of the disaster.
At the request of Japan’s National Institute of Radiological Sciences, REAC/TS conducted training in Japan as part of the continuing U.S. response to the Japan radiation emergency medicine nuclear crisis. There were approximately 30 participants.

“I love the fact that I can see national commercials before and after ours, and you can’t tell the difference in the production.”
Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies
—Steve File, Ripley’s General Manager
The Bingham Group has produced Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach television spots. These creative campaigns have been broadcast in more than 17 television markets across the country and have appeared nationwide in Regal Cinemas. We conceptualized and implemented the creation of animated characters – Sharky, Ripley and Jilly. The Bingham Group shot and edited the live action footage, created the animation, selected the voice talent and integrated the custom-created music. The Bingham Group then married the live action footage with the animated footage. This project was accomplished completely in-house by utilizing The Bingham Group’s broadcast production facilities. The Bingham Group has extended this animated campaign to promote special events and visiting exhibits. An example of this occurred when The Bingham Group created a separate animated spot incorporating the visiting Pirate Exhibit. This spot aired during the Regal Cinemas preview advertisements for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The goal of this successful campaign was to capitalize on the excitement and exposure generated by the movie and to direct the audience to a related exhibit at the Ripley’s Aquariums.

Y12 Federal Credit Union Y12 Federal Credit Union came to The Bingham Group with the need to stand out above traditional credit campaigns. After conducting extensive target marketing research, The Bingham Group created an effective image and branding campaign that set Y12 apart from traditional credit union companies. Established in 1950, Y12 FCU is a full-service, member-owned, nonprofit financial cooperative. With membership open to anyone who resides, works or attends school in any of the seven specified counties, Y12 FCU is the choice for East Tennessee residents. The Bingham Group began a media campaign to advertise Y12’s credit capabilities. By asking the question, "Y-go anywhere else?" The Bingham Group launched the campaign that would more than double Y12’s membership base. By emphasizing Y12’s personal service from real people, The Bingham Group distinguished Y12 as the choice for local investment with a campaign that is still successful today.

Bryant Boats Brochure Bryant Boats, a high-end recreational boat manufacturing company in East Tennessee, contacted us when they needed the tools to compete against larger manufacturers. With a limited advertising budget, we decided that their small size and hand-crafted quality was their strength. Through the brochure and national industry print ads, we positioned Bryant as a detail oriented, custom manufacturer that created lifelong memories for the folks who purchased a Bryant boat. We shot photography in beautiful East Tennessee instead of traveling to the very expensive marinephotographers in Florida. We repeatedly emphasized the Bryant Difference, using that theme throughout all materials. As a result, Bryant added dealers to its retail network. Materials for Bryant included: • Corporate Identity • Tagline: “The Bryant Difference” • Brochure • DVD • Video • Magazine Ads - trade • Newspaper Ads

O.P. Jenkins Furniture Store O.P. Jenkins Furniture Store is a high-end furniture and home accessories store in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. After more than 100 years in operation, the furniture store had no position in the market and had little brand equity. The Bingham Group set to work improving the brand of O.P. Jenkins. After creating direct mail media, newspaper ads, e-blasts and eventually television spots and a website, O.P. Jenkins saw their client base grow 10 times above their initial numbers.

Toyota Knoxville Toyota Knoxville was opening a new Prep & Design Center across from their location on Parkside Drive. To let customers know about the new service, The Bingham Group designed and produced five 8’ x 8’ signs that now adorn the lobby of the dealership. The signs communicate the variety of services offered at the Prep & Design Center and visually display the quality of the products. During the project, The Bingham Group started with the concept and saw it all the way through to execution. We monitored the vinyl production as well as the installation of the signs.

Astec Incorporated Annual Report Astec is a $480 million industrial manufacturing company, headquartered in Chattanooga, with clients around the world. “The Future is Riding on Astec” was the theme for the annual report. We defined the company’s vision: to grow and prosper by designing, manufacturing and selling the most innovative, productive and reliable equipment for the building and restoration of the world’s infrastructure. In the CEO’s letter to the shareholders, we covered the basic financial status, followed by a summary of the company’s strategic acquisitions, product innovations, the strategic mix of products and finally a look ahead. We emphasized that there were 17 companies and 168 core product lines but only one vision. This single vision pulled all Astec companies together and poised Astec for success in the future.

Clayton Annual Report Clayton Homes is a nationally recognized leader in the manufactured home industry and the only billion dollar company in East Tennessee. The company has retail centers in 22 states and manufactured housing communities in 12 states. The theme for 1999 was “Realizing the American Dream.” Clayton delivered more than top-quality housing. The company also created the opportunity for people to afford the American Dream. Clayton wanted to share the American Dream with shareholders and team members. In the letter to shareholders, Clayton announced record revenues of over $1 billion. It was crucial to highlight Clayton’s commitment to the future by emphasizing their well-planned and thoughtfully executed long-term strategic plan.

Bush 95th Anniversary Annual Report Bush Brothers, a privately owned company, is a national manufacturer of packaged foods. The 90th Anniversary Corporate Report began with a history of the company with headlines such as: “Our Grandfather Canned Tomatoes” and “Our Father Canned Green Beans.” The message was one of growth through the years, including the development of the company’s formal strategic plan and national expansion of the baked bean business. The company suffered disappointments when sales of Chili Magic did not meet expectations and when the Muskogee, Oklahoma, plant had to close due to wastewater disposal issues. The letter from the CEO stated that the work of two previous generations provided a solid future for all stakeholders in the Bush Brothers company.

BankFirst BankFirst was an $813 million financial institution that served the East Tennessee Region until being bought out by BB&T in 2000. The Bingham Group directed and developed BankFirst’s annual report for the 5 years prior to its being sold. In 1998, several significant events occurred, including the purchase of Curtis Mortgage Company, giving customers a broader range of mortgage financing options. Also, a five-for-onestock split transpired, followed by the company’s initial public offering. It was a year of tremendous growth for BankFirst. In addition to the annual reports, The Bingham Group provided complete full-service advertising and public relations services for the bank, including television, radio, print, outdoor, point-of-sale and the website.

Campaign Example: Valley Bank Newspaper Campaign Valley Bank in Monroe County, Tennessee, came to us when they changed their name and merged with another financial institution. Through a multimedia image campaign and special events, we were able to successfully combat anti-merger sentiments and present the bank as a long-standing cornerstone of the local community. We managed the Grand Opening Event for Valley Bank’s new main office, introducing the “key” to a new era of banking. The key, a cork pull, was mailed with an invitation.

Valley Bank Valley Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sweetwater Valley Corp., was operating banks in Monroe and McMinn counties and had average assets of over $160 million. The Bingham Group produced several annual reports for Valley Bank, including the 1994 report that celebrated 110 years of banking. The book was divided into decades, showing the role Valley Bank played in the growth of the area’s economy. In the letter to the stockholders, the message of 110 years of stability continued. The year 1994 posted better than average earnings, and this top performance led to a special cash dividend for shareholders. While presenting the strong financial picture, it was important that we continue to emphasize the company’s commitment to excellent customer service and loyalty to the area.

TDOT Regional Transit Authority The Bingham Group is proud to have taken part in the promotion of the first commuter rail in the state of Tennessee. Our goal was to create eyecatching, professional promotional materials that would educate people of the new transportation opportunity, encourage people to come aboard and inform them of the guidelines for commuter train travel. We worked closely with RTA to conceptualize and develop a comprehensive website and 2006 Ride Guide, complete with description of routes, rules and regulations for riders. Work included: website design and maintenance, collateral design and production and copy creation and development.
Ride Guide
In phase one of the project, The Bingham Group successfully set up the appropriate number of pages on the Music City Star website to address all the service’s relevant customer-interaction categories. In phase two, a content-management system was implemented that allowed system administrators to edit the content without html input.
