ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE VOLANTE WIDEBODY 1995
from Clayesmore Classic & Supercar Sunday 2023
by BV - the monthly digital magazine from the heart of Dorset
This is an exceptional, rare and significant car that comes with great provenance. This particular Aston Martin Virage Volante factory Widebody was first owned and registered by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd themselves, with their own factory display plate ‘AM V8’.
Aston Martin Works have confirmed in writing that this car was first owned by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd – presumably for marketing and display purposes, given that internal invoices on file for valeting are charged out to the Marketing Department!
We know the registration mark ‘AM V8’ was used at the time for factory ‘showcase’ demonstrators at various European motor shows; this car was used to showcase the new factory Widebody specification that was available for a further cost of in the region of £60,000. Owners of these cars could return their cars to the factory for this very special upgrade – but naturally it is the genuine factory original Widebody cars that are the more desirable and valuable. Only 26 factory-built Widebody cars were ever produced; further provenance for this car is that it is the first vehicle built with the improved specification, shown in the parts manual where this car, chassis number 60193, is referred to at the top of some pages as the starting point of where specification changed. This Aston Martin Virage Volante is finished in its correct colour of British Racing Green and the body and paintwork are presented in beautiful condition. The original green-piped parchment leather is stunning, as expected with such a low mileage. It's no surprise the car has won some recent show events with its last owner. The black mohair hood is in excellent order and this fantastic factory car has enormous presence with its detailed engine bay and remarkably clean underbody. There is no doubt this is a car for the discerning buyer/collector. Our Virage Volante 6.3 Cosmetic is truly outstanding in every respect and on the road the car is ... sensational, with impressive performance, acceleration and handling and real quality, luxury and comfort. This is a very special car to own.
In July 2023, at the prestigious British Classic Car Meet (BCCM) in St Moritz this car won the BCCM St Moritz Cup for the longest journey in its classic car range.
