The Assembly Speaking Award is awarded to a senior who has displayed a balance of powerfulwriting,persuasivespeakingandindividualcreativity.

The Blake School departmental awards honor senior students who exhibit active and ongoing scholarship, curiosity and creativity in Blake’s core academic areas. These awards are intended to recognize individuals whose interest in, passion for, and dedicationtolearningtranscendsachievementingradedworkandinspiresothers.

The Commitment to Pluralism Award is given to a senior who has shown active engagement in social justice work; holds a deep commitment to equity, fairness and inclusion; demonstrates open and honest dialogue across lines of difference; and seeks understanding and connection with community members who embody a rich variety of identitiesandlivedexperiences.

The Computer Science Award in Innovative Design recognizesaseniorstudentwhohas demonstrated excellence in diverse and creative solutions in computer science, expertly integratingknowledgeandskillsacrossdomains.

The Computer Science Award in Iterative Development recognizesaseniorstudentwho has demonstrated tenacity and exceptional proficiency in refining their work over time, exhibitinganoutstandingcapacitytolearn,adaptandgrow

The Creative Arts Awards are given to senior students who have distinguished themselves in a specific area of the performing or visual arts through a balance of dedication,technicalaccomplishment,creativityandleadership.

The Darrel McAnnany English Achievement Award recognizes uptotwostudentswho read and write with uncommon intensity, diligence and humility. They strive for unreduced completion, and deep authentic interpretation that is open to paradox. They find a home in novels, poems and plays; they create value from nothing but time and effortandwords.

The Harold Hodgkinson Award is awarded to a senior to recognize excellence in science.Theawardisdeterminedbyavoteofthesciencefaculty.

The International Thespian Society Award is awarded toaseniorstudent(s)inhonorof theirdedicationtoBlaketheatre.

The John Grafton Burgess Memorial Award is given to a senior who best embodies Blake’s core value of integrity. This student models openness and honesty; exhibits the highest academic and ethical standards; has shown accountability for their decisions, actions and consequences; and inspires others to lead their lives with honesty and integrity

The John R. Hartmann Athletic Award is awarded to seniors who, because of their athleticprowessandsportsmanship,areselectedasanoutstandingathleteoftheyear.

The John C. Savage Community Service Award is awarded to a student(s) who has rendered the greatest serviceinstudentactivitiesandhasgivenoutstandingservicetothe greatercommunity.

The Michael Kim Shulman Award is awarded to a senior who best embodies Blake’s core value of courage. This student exhibits both intellectual and ethical courage by taking risks, byshowinghonestself-reflectionandperseverance,bychoosingcommunity interests and values over self-interest and by doing what is right rather than what is expedient.

The National Speech and Debate Association Award is awarded to asenior(s)inhonor oftheirdedicationtoBlakedebate.

The Nellie Atwater Award is given to a senior who best embodiesBlake’scorevalueof respect. This student honors the dignity and worth of each individual, exhibits concern andgenuineinterestinothersandexhibitscareandstewardshipforthecommunity

The Paul Vetscher Mathematics Award is awarded toaseniorwhobestexemplifiesMr. Vetscher’s love of mathematics and appreciation for the beauty and elegance of mathematicsinallitsforms.

The Sarah Armfeld-Hill Award is given to a senior to recognize excellence in science and in math.. The award is determined by a vote of the science and math department faculty.

The Spirit of The Blake School Awardisgiventoaseniorwhohasconsistentlyexhibited qualities of scholarship,characterandleadershipthatbestexemplifytheschool’smission and core values and has contributed substantially to the overall spirit and morale of the school community. The recipient of this award is chosen by a vote of the entire Upper Schoolcommunity:faculty,staffandstudents.

The Stricker Debating Cup is awarded to a debater for theirdistinguishedexcellencein debateperformanceandasthebestall-arounddebateratBlake.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society Award is awarded to a senior student(s) in honor of theirdedicationtotheBlakeBandandOrchestraProgram.
