College is the natural next step for many graduating high school students. According to Best Colleges, in 2022 there were 17.9 million students enrolled in degree-granting colleges and universities in the United States. Many other students began their college careers in the fall 2023 semester, joining the ranks of people working toward their degrees.

Parking pass Although freshmen may be restricted from bringing cars to campus unless they are commuter students, sophomores and upperclassmen may be able to park in campus lots. Parking typically is an extra cost for students, meaning friends or relatives can gift the cost of annual parking passes to the college students in their lives.

Holiday gifts that aim to meet the needs and interests of recipients can ensure presents will be enjoyed and utilized. Modern college students likely can use a few things to simplify life on campus.

Dorm gear College students who opt to live in campus housing often want to make their dorm rooms a home away from home. They will need to outfit these tight quarters with items that won t take up too much space. Small pod-type coffee pots, compact microwaves, mini fridges, under-bed storage shelving, area rugs, cozy comforters, and bathroom essentials can make college kids dorm rooms feel more like home.

Laptop or tablet Gone are the days when students primarily utilize pen and paper for school assignments. Students are often introduced to tablets and other digital devices to complete assignments and take notes as early as elementary school. This reliance on paperless communication continues at the high school and university level. Most, if not all, assignments are posted online and then completed and submitted through various portals or cloud services. Therefore, college students will require a laptop or high functioning tablet with the right processing speed and memory capacity to handle the demand. Student card funds Colleges utilize different programs for paying for meal plans and incidentals purchased on campus. This likely involves funds linked to a proprietary card that functions similarly to a debit or credit card. Savvy gift givers can deposit funds into students accounts so that they ll have a little extra spending money to put toward books or that mocha latte at the campus coffee shop.

Event tickets

Not every moment should be spent in classrooms or residence halls. College students may want to venture away from campus, and what better way to enjoy the sights and offerings of what nearby venues have to offer than by attending various events? Gift-givers can offer tickets to art shows, music festivals, comedy club nights, amusement parks, or other events in college towns. Travel assistance Attending college far from home means that students will take planes, trains or automobiles to return home for holidays and other special events. Gifting college students airline or train fare, or providing gift cards for gas station fill-ups, means students will be able to afford trips home when needed. College students can benefit from gifts geared to the college lifestyle.

My goal in life is to have a happy life filled with those who are close to me. Ten years from now, I hope to have a career I enjoy and have a steady income. Throughout high school, I was involved in volleyball, basketball, track and field, FBLA, choir, and National Honors Society. My favorite high school memory was all of the time I spent with friends both in school and extracurriculars. Advice that I would give to my 7th grade self would be to put in effort every year of high school and try new things.

Makayla Blackburn I am Makayla Blackburn, daughter of Robert and Lea Blackburn. In total I currently have five siblings, however, only three are biological, one we are adopting, and the last two we are purely fostering. I plan on attending Mayville State University to study education. After college I plan to become a high school English teacher; my goal is to become a teacher in a bigger city out of state. During my three years at Langdon Area High School, I only ever really attended Art Club, however, outside of school I worked at Sporty’s Bar & Grill washing dishes and later waitressing. My favorite high school memory was helping decorate for prom my junior year; it was the first time I was able to garner the confidence to actually participate with my classmates and feel like I truly belonged at this school. One piece of advice I would give my 7th grade self is “you will never be able to make everyone happy.” As harsh as it sounds, I would tell her that she will always have someone upset with her decision, no matter what she does, and in the end, it won’t matter - she has nothing to worry about.

In high school, I was involved in track, cross country, the social science club, and band. My favorite high school memory is me popping out of my shell more, which helped me to get a lot of great relationships with wonderful people. Some advice I would give my seventh grade self is to study as much as possible for tests and enjoy all the memories you make with everyone because time goes way too fast.

Arianna Haraseth I am Arianna Haraseth, and I am the daughter of Liz and Rodney Haraseth. I have a younger brother named Aiden. After I graduate high school, I will be attending Lake Region State College for two years to get a degree in education, as well as playing hockey. After that I plan to get a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I hope to come back to this area and work as an elementary teacher. In 10 years I hope to have a family and a fulfilling career. Throughout high school I have been involved in numerous sports, including softball, volleyball, golf, and hockey. Some clubs I have been involved in are FCCLA, FBLA, drama, and band. My favorite memory in high school was playing for the Langdon Blades and winning the hockey state championship game my junior year. It was so much fun to play in a game that went into double overtime and win with that group of girls. If I could give my 7th grade self any advice, I would tell her to have fun and make the memories count. Time does go by extremely fast.

Hello, my name is Adam Hart, I am the son of Kimberly and Steven Hart. I am a senior in Langdon and plan to attend Lake Region State College for one year for generals before moving on to NDSU for agronomy. During my high school career, I was involved in cross country for my 7th and 9th grade years and golf for my 7th-9th grade years as well. I took part in drama and speech in 8th-12th grade and did pep band from 7th-12th grade. Finally, for extracurriculars I was in jazz band for my 10th12th grade years and in pop choir from 8th-12th grade. For work during high school I worked at Dairy Queen from 2020 to 2022, D&B Motors for the school year of 2022-2023, the Roxy Theater in 2020, and am currently working at the Langdon Country Club as a groundskeeper, and have been since 2022. My favorite memory of high school was Halloween when my friend, Landon, and I got the same costumes and traded places in class to mess with our teachers. A piece of advice I’d give to myself in 7th grade is to be involved in as many things as you can, enjoy the time because these chances won’t last forever, and there is no going back.

My favorite memories throughout high school was winning a state championship in three different sports. Those are my favorite memories because I had a blast playing with my friends. If I could give my seventh grade self advice, I would tell them to enjoy your time in school because it goes by fast.

In 10 or so years I want to have a house, preferably on a farm, with a family. In high school I wasn't involved in much. I played hockey, and that's it. I like to snowmobile, icefish, and wrench on things. When I wasn't in school or gone for hockey I was at the farm working. One of my favorite high school memories would be winning the state championship in hockey. Some advice I would give my 7th grade self would be to maybe try harder in school, be patient, and don't worry about the small stuff.

Heavenly Janis

Hi, my name is Heavenly Janis, and I'm a senior this year. I have a few things to tell you that might actually surprise you. My parents are Alliey and Matthew Economy, and I am the oldest of 10 kids. When I was a young girl I always wanted to help the world and make it a better place - not just physically but mentally. A psychology major is in my view, and the college that will help me gather my career is Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. My goal in life is to be able to live out my years being happy, and successful, not just in money but in spirit, too. Where I find myself in 10 years is maybe in a life where I am able to be a parent, provide for my home, and live like there's no tomorrow. In my high school years, I've always enjoyed being a part of a team. I enjoyed volleyball my freshman year along with basketball, and as I continued, running became a part of my journey as well. Along the way I found more love for basketball than anything else, so I continued with the sport along with picking up art, FCCLA, and drama. In my free time I enjoyed working at care homes, and that really brought out the best in me as a person, sister, and friend. Overall high school has been great these past four years, and time flies like no other. The moments I enjoyed were the activities for students and just being able to hang out with my best friends. My advice to my little 7th grade self is that time flies, and the things that may bug you are the memories worth keeping - whether it be homework, friends, or the plans that you didn't want to do at first, but in the end they'll become the best things to ever happen to you. I hope you enjoy every second of it.

Eli Johnson

Hi, my name is Eli Johnson, oldest son of Sunny and Aaron Johnson. I have two siblings Jax and Thea Johnson. I plan to attend NDSU in the fall to study architecture. My goal in life is to be financially stable, have a successful career, and to be happy. In 10 years I plan to live in a nice house - not sure where, be financially stable, have a successful career, and have started a family. In high school I was involved in football, track, basketball, and hockey. For a high school career I worked at the Langdon Pool, and I have helped around the family farm with whatever I am told to do. Out of all my high school memories my favorite memory is leaving Edmore High School to come to Langdon Area High School. Advice I would give my 7th grade self is that you should always work hard and stay focused in school.

I plan to attend Bismarck State College for graphic design and communications. In 10 years, I will most likely be living in Michigan. I've had this plan for a while to move to Michigan to be closer to my friend that lives there. I didn't do any sports or anything in high school, but I have worked at Dollar General for basically half of high school. My favorite high school experience would probably be my senior homecoming, because it was technically my first year actually participating in all that, dressing up all week, going to the homecoming game, and going to the dance afterwards. Advice I would give to my 7th grade self would probably be to try to actually get homework turned in on time, because it will turn into a whole thing throughout high school of turning stuff in late or forgetting about it.

Banner Lundquist

My name is Banner Lundquist. I am the daughter of Josh and Sheena Lundquist, and I have a younger sister, Kaydence. My future plans are to stay in Langdon and work at Richard's Welding where I started working last summer. We won the state championship last year, and this year we placed second in the championship. I started working last summer at Richard's, and I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. My favorite high school memory has to be when my family bought Olaf the van that used to belong to the Harts. Some advice I would give my 7th grade self is to enjoy school and push to do my best.

Chase Moen

Hi, my name Chase Moen. My parents are Chris Moen and Kristin Beauchamp, and I have two brothers and two sisters. I plan to attend Northland Community and Technical College to become an electrician or an HVAC technician. My life goals are to have a successful career, get a 1967 Mustang aka Eleanor, and get married and have some kids. In ten years I want to have a well paying good job and live in either Minnesota or stay around here in North Dakota. I was involved in basketball for two years and football since the 4th grade, and I have worked at the Pain Reliever for the past seven years. My favorite memory is winning the burn out competition they have every summer. This is because I won two years in a row in two different vehicles, and it was a lot of fun. The advice that I would give my 7th grade self is not to worry so much and also hang out with friends as much as you can.

Jada Moen

Hi, my name is Jada Moen. I am the daughter of Sarah and Kyle Moen and have three younger brothers: Abel, Axel, and Krew. I plan to go to Lake Region State College and study business management. I am also going to be playing softball there as well. After my two years at Lake Region I plan to transfer to Mayville State and continue my studies. My goals in life are to come back to Langdon, raise my family, be financially comfortable, and run my own businesses. In ten years I want to own a home for my family and also own a lake cabin to enjoy in the summer. I was involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, FCCLA, and drama. I worked all my high school career at the nursing home, Sporty’s Bar and Grill, Langdon Activity Center, and the Langdon Pool. My favorite memory in high school was when I was on the tube on the lake and went flying in the air. I most likely got a concussion from it. Advice I would give my 7th grade self is to work harder in school and pay attention to my studies.

Rudy Moser

My name is Rudy Moser, and I am the son of Nick and Andrea Moser. I plan to attend the University of Minnesota in Crookston for a bachelor's degree in agronomy and agri-business. After I get done with college, I plan to go to a flight academy. After seven months at the flight academy, I plan to come back to Langdon and work for an aerial application business. In 10 years, I want to have my own aerial application business. My goal in life is to be successful and provide for my family. I have been involved in hockey, football, cross country, track and field, golf, jazz band, and pep band in high school. I have worked at Forest Flying Service and Forest Farms all four years of high school in the summer, and in the winter, I am a certified hockey referee. One of my favorite high school memories is when we won state hockey my junior year. Another one of my favorite memories is pulling my friends on a wakeboard into the sunset on the lake. The advice I would give to my 7th grade self would be to work first, play second.

Isabelle Olson

I am Isabelle Olson. My parents are Steve and Jamie Olson. I have an older sister named Lexi. I plan to go to the University of Jamestown for a degree and acquire a job in the medical field afterwards. My goal in life is to become successful and have a career that I am passionate about. In 10 years, I would like to be financially stable and have a fulfilling career. During my high school career, I was involved in track and volleyball for three years, and I am currently involved in FCCLA and Science Olympiad. Throughout high school, I also worked as a nanny. My favorite high school memory was when the senior class went to take the senior class picture. It was really foggy out that day, so we had to drive to different areas to try to find a good spot to take the picture. The funniest part was when Mrs. Romfo was driving our bus, and she missed the turn into the Walhalla Country Club, even though it was very easy to see. Some advice that I would give my 7th grade self would be to not worry about the little things.

Drew Peterson

Hello, my name is Drew Trent Peterson. My family consists of my parents, Trent and Tonya, and sister Abby. My future plans are to go to Lake Region State College for precision ag. After school I intend to come back to Langdon and use my newly learned skills on the farm. After school I plan to return to the family farm with my father Trent. My goals are to expand and grow the farm in any way possible. Things I was involved in throughout high school were many years of drama and speech, and in my senior year, I was on the student council. Also during my time in high school, I worked on the family farm and at Clyde Farm Service. My favorite memory in high school was watching Landon fall in a puddle of water in the school parking lot. This is my favorite memory as it was funny to watch his feet go above his head before he hit the ground. The advice I would give my 7th grade self is to probably try harder, so I don’t fall so far behind.

Paige Peterson

My name is Paige Peterson. I am currently 18 and am the daughter of Scott and Lori Peterson. I have a 7-year-old brother named Tate, and he is the funniest person I know. I have three cats: Fat Steve, Pete, and a little kitten named Bones. In the future I hope to become a pharmacy technician. I currently work at Langdon Community Drug, and I love it there. I hope to continue working for them as I study to become a pharmacy tech. As much as I love everyone and everything there, I do hope to move out of North Dakota in the future. A lot of my closest friends live out of state in Chicago and Detroit, so someday I hope to live with them instead of our brief summer visits. In high school, I was never involved in sports, but I have an appreciation for the arts. I love band class (shoutout Mr. Lindseth, you are the best teacher ever), where I play the trumpet. My favorite high school memory is hard to choose because I oddly cannot remember it, but I would have to say that this year's prom was really fun. For some reason when Pitbull is playing and the lights are dimmed, no one cares that you're the weird goth kid, and they dance with you anyways! What I wish I could have told my 7th grade self is just because you have purple hair, you are not different and weird, keep hanging out with the friends you have and don't distance yourself. School goes by so fast, but having people to power through it with makes it so much more bearable.

Jace Rime

My name is Jace Rime, and my parents are Patrick and Heather Rime. Next year I plan to attend Bismarck State College to pursue a degree in agronomy. After college I want to come back to Langdon to farm and also be an agronomist or seed salesman. In high school I was involved in hockey and trapshooting. I worked on my family farm along with a few other local farms. I think my favorite high school memory would be when Langdon played North Star in the district basketball game and almost beat them. We were having a lot of fun in the student section, and I've never heard our gym so loud. I would tell my 7th grade self to soak it all up because it does go by really fast, go to all the ball games and activities you can go to and just have fun with it, because you are only in high school one time.

My favorite memory from high school is homecoming week this year when we did class games! I like to see my peers work together to try and win! Advice to my 7th grade self is to do what makes you happy, because opportunities will pass you by if you don’t go for it!

Emelia Sabo

During my high school experience I have been involved in art club, FCCLA, social science club, volleyball, and I have also been involved in church activities my whole life. I worked as a Sunday School teacher for a year and participated in youth group and confirmation. Since 2021 I have worked at Langdon Dairy Queen and am currently still working there. I have also worked at Dollar General and have babysat as a side job. My favorite high school memory is either homecoming weeks or during math class when my friends and I wrote fake love letters to my other friend, and he had no idea it was us. The advice I would give to my 7th grade self would be to not worry so much and to enjoy every moment. I would also tell myself to participate in everything and take every opportunity as it comes.

McKenna Schneider

My name is McKenna Schneider. My parents are Jeff and Kim Schneider. I have one sister, Alexa, and one brother, Landon. My plan for the future is to attend the University of North Dakota for physical therapy on the early assurance pathway. My ultimate goals in life are to become a successful physical therapist, contribute to my community, and travel around the world. In a decade, I envision myself settling down and having a steady job as a physical therapist in a rural community. In high school, I was involved in hockey, softball, track, FCCLA, Student Council, Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Social Science, Choice Junior Bank Board, Cavalier County Behavioral Health Board, and CYO. My favorite memories of high school include going to sporting events, the dinosaur game, and winning state hockey my junior year. The advice I would give to my 7th grade self is to always be yourself, and don’t be afraid to try something new!

Jane Sillers

My name is Jane Sillers, and my parents are Liz and Jason Sillers. I have a twin sister named Kate. I plan to go to UND to study biology and music. My goal in life is to become a medical doctor, and in 10 years I would like to have a stable career and a family. In high school I was involved in cross country, piano, FCCLA, choir, pop choir, jazz band, drama, Junior Bank Board, CYO, social science, Honor Society, science olympiad, and student council. My favorite high school memories are going to sporting events and my senior homecoming. My advice to my 7th grade self is to not be afraid to speak up.

Ben Westphal

Kate Sillers

Jalynn Swanson Cole Welsh

My name is Ben Westphal. I am the son of Timothy and Melanie Westphal, and I have a sister named Alexandra. After high school, I plan to get a job in either game design or software engineering, but I have no idea what college I'm going to go to yet. My goal in life is to be successful with my work, and in 10 or so years, I hope to be rich enough to be able to do whatever I want. During my earlier high school years, I was involved with a digital media team at the school I used to attend in Guam. (Guam is a small island

in the Pacific, by the way!) We filmed our school's sports events and made short highlights to post on Instagram. I think my favorite high school memory was when me and a couple of friends used Minecraft to create a video for our U.S History project, and our teacher gave us BONUS POINTS because he thought we animated it and didn't realize we were just playing a game. Advice I would give my 7th grade self is to not stress out too much about school work and just enjoy school while it lasts because time flies.

My name is Kate Sillers, and I am the daughter of Jason and Elizabeth Sillers. My plans for the future are to attend the University of North Dakota. My goals in life are to work in a profession I enjoy and establish good friendships. In ten years, I hope to have a steady job and the ability to travel. Throughout high school, I was involved in choir, pop choir, jazz band, piano, cross country, FCCLA, drama, Science Olympiad, junior bank board, social science, and a member of National Honor Society. The best high school memories I have are being in activities and going to sporting events. If I had to give my 7th grade self advice, I would say to believe in yourself and focus only on what you can control.

My name is Jalynn Swanson, and my parents are Steve and Brenna. I have two younger siblings, Levi and Mya. I plan to attend North Dakota State University in the fall to major in nursing. My goal in life is to become a successful nurse practitioner in a rural town with a family. I value family, dedication, self-worth, and altruism. My goal is to pass these morals on to my loved ones. In college, I would like to be involved in many activities, while also getting a job. I am also interested in coaching sports at some point in my life. In high school, I was involved in National Honor Society, Pop Choir, Social Science, volleyball, basketball, and softball. My favorite high school memories are all the overnight stays during sports. The advice I would give to my 7th grade self would be to be grateful for everything and the opportunities I have had.

Hello, my name is Cole Welsh. I am the son of Steph and Kevin Welsh, and I have two brothers, Grant and Tucker, and one sister, Ally. I plan to attend the University of North Dakota for physical therapy and hopefully join a bowling league and maybe dabble in some intramural sports. My goal in life is to be successful financially through my illustrious bowling career, but if that doesn’t pan out, my everyday job, and be successful emotionally through friends, family, and bowling as probably an average joe since I’m not that good at bowling. I, Cole Welsh, strive to be the next Big Lebowski. In high school I was involved in football, baseball, and student council all four years. Those three activities gave me countless memories and taught me lessons I can use all throughout my life. For me high school has been an amazing experience, and if I could give my 7th grade self any advice it would be to enjoy every moment of it - it flies by - and to probably drink more milk and be less injury prone.

Landon Welsh

Hello, my name is Landon Welsh. My parents are Dave and Stacey Welsh. I have a brother named Andrew, a sister named Kayla, and a half-brother named Dalton. For college I plan to attend UND to study accounting. In 10 years I want to have a successful career in accounting, hopefully with the job I'm at right now, Choice Bank. I also want to be married and have a family, along with at least one dog. I also want a lot of LEGOs and a room to store all of them on shelves. I was involved in Science Olympiad from 7th grade all the way until the end of my high school career. I was also in drama every year of my high school years. My favorite high school memory would probably be when I slipped on water in the high school parking lot and fell into the water; this is my favorite memory because I had a bunch of different pictures of Jesus in my wallet and thought if I ran fast enough, I could run on water. It did not work. My advice that I would give my 7th grade self is to not worry as much, get good grades but don't worry if you mess up on something - it's ok to mess up, you learn from your mistakes. I have definitely learned from my mistakes.
