BOROUGH PRESIDENT

TEL: 718-590-3500 FAX: 718-590-3537

Dear Neighbor: Once again, I am thrilled to announce the arrival of our annual celebration of the best of our borough: Bronx Week! Now in its 48th year, Bronx Week 2019 promises to be an amazing celebration of everything that makes our borough a great place to live, work and raise a family. I invite everyone to join me for a full slate of wonderful events, which will take place from May 9th through May 19th, and will feature exciting festivities and fun activities in every corner of The Bronx. My office, the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (BOEDC) and The Bronx Tourism Council have put together some great events for Bronx Week this year that the whole community can take part in and enjoy. Please use this calendar to guide your Bronx Week activities and to explore our borough during this time of celebration. On Saturday, May 18th, we will host the highly-anticipated Bronx Ball where we will honor our 2019 Bronx Walk of Fame inductees. The next day we will wrap up the 11-day festival with our Bronx Week Grand Finale, during which we will officially induct this year’s honorees to The Bronx Walk of Fame on the Grand Concourse. Later that day, Bronxites and visitors from across the region will celebrate their achievements at our annual parade, street festival, and concert on Mosholu Parkway. Bronx Week celebrates the best of the borough—our veterans, mothers, seniors, youth, business leaders, volunteers, artists, civic leaders and hometown greats. It is a week devoted to the people who matter most to this borough—people just like you. My office has worked alongside the BOEDC and The Bronx Tourism Council, to make this year’s Bronx Week a special and memorable event. I am honored to once again be part of this amazing annual tradition, and can’t wait to see you at this year’s events! Sincerely,

Ruben Diaz Jr.

Review, Revise & Polish: 10 Ways To Self-Edit Your Work

Bronx Living Legend Concert: Benny Ayala

One of the biggest differences between a first and final draft of a memoir or fictional piece is the center of gravity. The center of gravity is the point around which your memoir revolves, the glue that holds it together, the thing without which there would be no memoir or fiction. In this workshop we will explore ten different ways in which you can make a successful transition from first draft to final draft in order to prepare a manuscript for consideration for publication.

The BMHC Bronx Living Legends series, which honors Bronx music legends for their careers as performers and educators, will honor Puerto Rican plenero Benny Ayala, for his career as a pioneering plenero in The Bronx and cultivating the next generation of plena and bomba musicians.
