There’s lots to do around The Bronx this season. Stop by Ciccarone Park to visit Little Italy’s illuminated Christmas tree. Go shopping at the Bronx Museum’s 2nd Annual Holiday Market or stop by the 11th Annual Sparkling Event for holiday discounts and promotions (at participating Fordham Road businesses). Join in one of the seasonal arts and crafts programs at Poe Park Visitor Center or Wave Hill. If you like to be outside during a cold spell, the Bronx Zoo will continue to have polar bears, snow leopards, and sea lions in outdoor exhibits (as well as ongoing –warmer– indoor exhibits). If you prefer the wild, the Urban Park Rangers offer free seal exploration programs at Orchard Beach Nature Center (in Pelham Bay Park)!! ZIG ZAG QUARTET

Anchored by Bronx-based upright bass player Hilliard Greene, this jazz ensemble has been a huge hit with Wave Hill Sunset Wednesday audiences. In addition to Greene, Quartet members are Francisco Roldán (guitar), Alexander A. Wu (piano) and Danny Mallon (percussion). JERUSALEM BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH This group exhibition features more than two dozen works of art first shown at the 2017 Jerusalem Biennale. It throws a spotlight onto the concept of watershed, examining it from a literal, metaphorical and even historical perspective. The theme finds its expression in artworks that raise issues as varied as Jewish identity, immigration and the plight of refugees. HOOT AND HOWL WEEKEND Did you know that owls and coyotes are thriving in the Bronx? Find out how these reclusive creatures adapt to life in the big city at Wave Hill’s Hoot & Howl Weekend. Listen to presentations by scientists and naturalists, talk to students who are studying these urban animals and meet live owls. Families can make their own owl and coyote projects. HELSINGBORG SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF SWEDEN The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra is one of Sweden’s oldest Symphony Orchestras – founded in 1912. Today it consists of 51 musicians and gives about 75 concerts a year in Helsingborg and around southern Sweden. HORTICULTURAL LECTURE: SARAH RAVEN: THE CUTTING GARDEN An inspirational and passionate teacher and awardwinning author, Sarah Raven has been running cooking, flower arranging, growing and gardening courses at Perch Hill—her farm in East Sussex—and across England, since 1999. Her talk is all about how to prepare, plant, maintain and harvest buckets of flowers from your garden—from March to November—with her best sowing and growing techniques. THE GARDEN PROJECT, WITH MICHAEL BROWN, ALEXANDER FITERSTEIN, NICHOLAS CANELLAKIS AND ELENA URIOSTE Described as “outstanding” by Albany’s Times Union, these musicians are acclaimed for the exuberant communicativeness with which they play. The members of the Trio are Michael Brown, composer-pianist, Elena Urioste, violin, and Nicholas Canellakis, cello. Joining the ensemble is guest clarinetist Alex Fiterstein. The Wave Hill program will be a blend of traditional chamber works by Debussy and Fauré, and a movement from Olivier Messaien’s 20th Century landmark work, Quartet for the End of Time. The centerpiece of the program is the world premiere of a new work by composer-pianist Michael Brown commissioned by Wave Hill.
