If you love open-air concerts, then you won’t want to miss Wave Hill’s Sunset Wednesdays or the SummerStage festival presented by City Parks Foundation. More than ever, The Bronx has a variety of recreational offerings ranging from seasonal walks through the New York Botanical Garden, Arthur Avenue and The Bronx Zoo. So whether you’re observing wildlife, learning about different Bronx historical and cultural sites while on a leisurely walking tour, or adventurously paddling the Bronx River on one of Bronx River Alliance’s canoeing programs, there are countless opportunities to bond with friends and family this season. The Bronx is especially worth visiting when the summer is sizzling!!

SUMMER SCHEDULE WED | JUN 21 | 9AM – 10:30AM MAKE MUSIC NEW YORK For the second year in a row, Wave Hill celebrates avian life as part of Make Music New York’s Inside the Bird Chorus, a city-wide project conceived by the artist David Rothenberg as a dialogue between improvising musicians and native bird species. The gardens make an ideal location for flutist Michael Pestel to chat with the birds and for visitors to enjoy the sounds. Wave Hill, 675 W 252 St

Summertime is great for basking in the sun on a beach or taking a stroll through a seaside village. Both can happen right here in The Bronx. Whether you want to catch fish, eat fish or simply look at fish - City Island is the place to be. Ride one of Captain Chris' Island Current Fleet and fish by sun or moonlight. Scuba dive with Captain Mike and friends. Don't know how to scuba? No worries. Take lessons right here in The Bronx. If you are hungry, enjoy a nice Branzino at Portofino Restaurant or the best Moules Mariniere at Bistro SK. There is no shortage of seafood restaurants on City Island. Take a seaside tour with the City Island Chamber of Commerce on every first Friday of the month. For City Island history, visit the Nautical Museum. For art and gifts, browse the galleries and chit chat with the locals. If it gets too hot, enjoy an ice cream or frozen yogurt at Lickety Split. Say hi to Skip while you're there. For some local music, go to the Starving Artist Cafe. Elliott might let you join the band if you are so inclined. In September get a head start on your holiday shopping at the City Island Arts and Crafts fair. Jewelry, art, and more.

JUL 12 LYNDON ACHEE QUINTET A Brooklyn-based steel pan artist/composer/performer/ educator, Lyndon Achee collaborates often with Oliver Lake, Bobby Sanabria, Eli Fountain and Anthony Braxton, among others. AUG 9 ORQUESTA SSC SALSA BAND Contemporary salsa big band Orquesta SCC returns to Wave Hill to close the 2017 Sunset Wednesdays season. An 11 member, all male, contemporary salsa big band led by Jose Vazquez-Cofresi and Edwin Perez, SCC stands for Salsa Con Conciencia, and the band’s mission is to make music that benefits society.
