2017 YOUNG BRONX ARTIST CONTEST AUDITIONS The Bronx Arts Ensemble is holding its annual Jonathan Bingham Young Bronx Artist Contest on Saturday, April 29. The competition is open to music students (vocal and instrumental) ages 14 to 20, who reside in the Bronx. First-prize winner will receive $500 and a solo appearance with the Bronx Arts Ensemble during the 2017-2018 season. Runners-up will receive cash awards. Click to apply online

MARIACHI LOS CAMPEROS Mariachi Los Camperos was founded in 1960 by mariachi “Giant” Natividad “Nati” Cano. His passing in October 2014 was mourned nationwide by performers, students, and lovers of mariachi. The importance of Orquesta Aragón to Cuban music is similar to that of the Duke Ellington Orchestra or the Count Basie Orchestra to American Jazz. In the 1950s, Orquesta Aragón was signed to the American label RCA Victor, and found great success internationally spearheading the first wave of Cuban cha-cha-cha and mambo mania that captivated American audiences. Brew at the Zoo, summer edition, is coming to the Bronx Zoo on Friday, June 16. Whether or not you made it to our inaugural event last October, round two is going to be bigger and better. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. grizzly bears, giraffes, lemurs, sea lions and more will be on exhibit. Stop by and see your favorites before the unlimited beer tastings begin at 7 p.m. We'll start pouring samples of over 100 varieties of wine and beer, so you can find a new favorite or enjoy a classic. When you're drinking beer, you need food, and we'll have plenty of options. Sample from numerous food trucks or enjoy classic beer hall bites at one of our zoo cafes.
