“We are so happy to have worked with Sesame Street for over a decade - and to now be celebrating their 50th anniversary alongside such an incredible team is an absolute privilege! Congratulations on a wonderful 50 years of helping children all around the world grow smarter, stronger and kinder.”
“I’ve been loving Sesame Street for so long, and I still think of Elmo as the ‘new’ character! I grew up watching Sesame Street and it’s incredible to think it’s just as relevant now as it was when I was 2 years old. Working with Sesame is truly doing something good for the world!”
It all began in 1969 on a street where colourful monsters and humans lived -- and learned -side by side. 50 years later, Sesame Workshop, the not-for-profit educational organisation behind Sesame Street, are still bringing people together around the timeless lesson - that Sesame Street has always taught: everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, is equally deserving of respect, opportunity – and joy.
The year-long anniversary celebration will bring people together through social impact initiatives, digital campaigns, and community events that reflect Sesame Street’s unifying messages. Throughout 2019, fans and families around the world can join their favourite feathered and furry friends in celebrating Sesame Street’s past, present, and future, with: • A 50th television season • An expansion of the growing Sesame Street in Communities initiative, addressing issues including substance abuse and foster care to better support vulnerable children and families • The launch of a new local version of Sesame Street created for displaced Syrian families • A signature research report that will explore an important issue facing kids and families today • Celebrity and fan-fuelled social media campaigns including #ThisIsMyStreet, showcasing favourite Sesame Street memories • New collaborations across fashion, lifestyle, and themed entertainment for Sesame Street fans of all ages.
AUTISM INITIATIVE AU Meet Julia! In 2015, Sesame Workshop launched an Autism Initiative called ‘See Amazing In All Children’. The initiative centred around Julia an adorable 4-year-old girl character with autism. Julia then made her first appearance on Sesame Street in 2017, becoming a regular character on the TV Show. The initiative grew out of desire to address the growing number of children diagnosed with autism. Following the success of the initiative overseas, we are proud to announce that Julia’s initiative will be launching in Australia in 2019! We will be working with a number of local autism organisations across the nation to help raise awareness and educate Australian children about autism. With the help of Julia and our key partners, we will also raise funds for additional resources to assist Australian families with a child/children on the spectrum.
In December, 2018, it was announced that the Lego Foundation would provide a grant of $100m over five years to Sesame Workshop, to deepen their work with the International Rescue Committee. The grant will allow Sesame to intensify its current work creating positive, play-based educational interventions for children impacted by the Syrian conflict, and expand the program to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
