I Caught Crabs in Walberswick
Think No Evil of Us: My Life with Kenneth Williams
by award-winning playwright Joel Horwood
Written and performed by David Benson
A hot new play fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
This classic one-man show unlocks the character of one of Britain’s best-loved and most-missed entertainers. In this thrilling and hilarious tour de force we see Kenneth Williams at his funniest and at his most badly behaved. David Benson’s uncanny impersonation was also recently heard on the acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series, ‘The Private World of Kenneth Williams’. This brilliantly performed semi-autobiographical show also reveals how David’s unusual childhood led to an extraordinary connection with the Carry On star. Packed with scenes and dialogue that will stay with you - for life.
Set on a sweltering summer’s day on the eve of the last GCSE exam, I Caught Crabs in Walberswick takes an explosive and contemporary look at teenage life. Best mates Fitz and Wheeler are fishing for crabs in sleepy Walberswick when they are ambushed by Dani, the fittest girl on the beach. So begins 24 hours that will change the lives of the three sixteen-year-olds forever. Joel Horwood’s writing fizzes with energy, warmth and wit….anyone with a teenager in their life will recognise the real-life humour and hormonal hang-ups of the three characters Fitz, Wheeler and Dani.

Oh What a Lovely War
When Sherriff Jim Daggart springs jailbird Jack Valentine to team up in search of Mexican bandit, Tico, and the lost loot from a bank job in Monterey, then it’s time for the enigmatic Stranger to lend a hand.... enigmatically, of course. Oh ... and Laddie the invisible dog! And his horse, Trigger. Oh… that’s not the dog’s horse, that’s Jim Daggart’s horse. As hunters and hunted head north towards the Texan border, it’s only a matter of time before the two teams cross paths - and double cross each other! Twice! Quick on the draw, quicker on the drawl, you’ll laugh ‘till you need new trousers.
Ninety years on from the Armistice, Oh What a Lovely War remains a classic of the modern theatre and a powerful reminder of the atrocities of a war that cost twenty million lives. Told through the songs and documents of the period, it’s a satirical attack on the military incompetence and inconceivable disregard for human life the First World War has come to represent and a chilling reminder of man’s inhumanity to man. At turns satirical, funny and deeply moving, Oh What a Lovely War has a style all of its own, combining live music, dance, songs and sketches to create a picture of life for those on the front line and those behind it. Join acclaimed company, Blackeyed Theatre, for an unforgettable theatrical experience.

After being coined ‘Physical theatre discovery of the year’ (Theatre Record) and taking home a much coveted Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006, Chotto Ookii return with the second tour of their long awaited second production: THUS FAR and no further. In this tale of addiction, factory life, conflict and cake there are surprises lurking around every corner and as the story unfolds and the production line grinds to a halt; five eccentric characters face troubling times. The content is dark and the delivery hilarious as the performers tumble, stamp, dance and puppeteer in order to “create this strange and humorous story that will capture the heart of anyone who has ever felt the drudgery of the Monday to Friday nine till five” (The Hype) Chotto Ookii continue to test the definitions of physical theatre, seamlessly combining elements of clown-like comedy, choreography, puppetry and breathtaking visuals.
