A Guide Created
with You in Mind

It’s easy to find beautiful wedding inspiration—the tough part is knowing where to start. Keeping you in mind, we’ve designed this issue to guide you through your wedding planning, from setting your budget to planning your honeymoon. Whether your big day budget is large or small, it’s important to start by setting a number. If your family is helping with finances, include them in the discussion so there are no surprises down the road. Determine what’s most important to you and what you could live without. How much are you willing to spend on that designer dress? Is it worth cutting back on your photographer or florist? Read more about why it’s important to set your budget before hiring your vendors on page 8.
34 38
We know the first thing every bride wants to do is find the dress (take a peek at the hottest 2018 styles on page 44), but before you choose your wedding day attire, book a venue. Is your dream to walk barefoot down the aisle at a beach ceremony, or will you take the traditional indoor route? Our venue guide begins on page 58 and is loaded with event spaces of all kinds, from classic ballrooms to rustic farms. Grab your honey and take a few tours, then decide on a place you both love. Planning a wedding can be stressful, so it’s important to trust the experts and choose a cohesive team of vendors. Take time to meet with prospective vendors to discuss your budget and ask important questions. Check out our guide to building your team on page 90. We loved creating this issue for you, and we love seeing YOU in it! Get inspired by real couples and their gorgeous weddings, starting on page 112. Now that we’ve added the Chicago area to our brand by our recent acquisition of Wedding Guide Chicago, there’s even more inspiration waiting for you at thecelebrationsociety.com.

S TA R T T H E C O N V E R S AT I O N WITH YOUR BUDGET By Leah Economos
Many brides are surprised that most vendors insist on knowing their budget before providing a detailed proposal. Truth is, this saves you both time and prevents miscommunication, sticker shock and getting attached to an idea you just can’t afford. Why Share Your Budget? Because you’re a busy bride with limited spare time, you’ll want this process to be as efficient as possible. Also, the vendors you’re interviewing respect your time and aim to make the proposal process as simple and straightforward as possible. With knowledge of your budget, each vendor will be able to provide a proposal in the price range you have specified.
Your style, taste, and personal preferences are equally as important as your budget. But, if you start out with a proposal that’s above your budget, trimming it down will be the only solution. That will mean parting with some elements you may love, and it also will delay arriving at your “budget happy place” while your salesperson revises your proposal. To avoid this dilemma, simply share your budget with vendors in your first conversation.
The Dangers of a Proposal that’s Above Your Budget A proposal with no budget guideline has several dangers. The first one is sticker shock. Many brides are truly shocked by the cost of wedding elements. Being surprised by your proposal price is not only unpleasant, but it may cause you to eliminate a wedding vendor from consideration who is truly capable of supplying a fantastic alternative for half the price—they just had no idea how much you wanted to spend!
Finding a Fit There’s a possibility that your vision and budget aren’t a match for a particular vendor, and that’s okay! If they aren’t able to offer the service or product you’re looking for within the amount you’re willing to pay, don’t be shy about telling them your budget is firm and you’ll have to look elsewhere.
Beyond the sticker shock, there’s another danger: attachment! You’re likely to become attached to all of the beautiful options conjured up in that initial proposal—and they’re way out of your price range. This will only create disappointment down the road as you find it impossible to be satisfied with more budget friendly alternatives.
8
If you consult several reputable vendors and continue to hear your vision can’t be accomplished within the amount you want to pay, it’s probably an indication your budget isn’t reasonable. Consider shifting money from another category within your overall budget, or open your mind to more budget friendly options and still allow you to have a great event. Great vendors will do their best to offer an alternative to suit your budget, whether it’s a fabulous short rib small plate station instead of filet mignon, or ranunculus for your bouquet instead of peonies.
THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM
Take Steps in the Right Direction Occasionally, brides can get stuck in what is referred to as 'proposal la-la land.' This is what happens when you continue to swoon over Pinterest pictures and celebrity weddings featuring ideas far outside your budget range. Remember, the goal is to arrive at a proposal you’re happy with and can afford. Trusting Your Vendors Some couples say they don’t feel comfortable sharing their actual budget with vendors they’re interviewing, for fear that they will "use up all the money,” and I want to offer some insight on that topic. Any vendor you’re considering hiring should make you feel comfortable and cared for as a customer. If at any point you feel pressured in a used-carsalesman-fashion, you’re in the wrong place. When it comes to budget, remember: you’re in charge. Your florist or caterer isn’t going to reach into your wallet and take your money. When you agree on a price, make sure you’re comfortable with the amount you’re spending. Bottom Line You’ll make your planning process easier, avoid disappointment and sticker shock and develop a great relationship with your vendor team by sharing your budget from the beginning.

WHITE DANCE FLOOR
$3,200 Imagine sharing a magical first dance with your honey over your monogram. Create a special memory and complete the look of your reception by adding a custom dance floor that matches your style and entices guests to dance all night long.
Specifics BREAKDOWN This is a 16’ x 16’ dance floor rental and custom white floor wrap with gold monogram from Indaglow Productions.
BENEFITS Having a custom dance floor allows you the opportunity to further brand your event with your own personalization. If you have a theme, this is the perfect way to showcase the elements and make a WOW statement.
THE DESIGNER SAYS “Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to dance on a white dance floor with gold elements? Your guests will have never seen this exact dance floor before and will be excited to get the party started! For this wedding, we decided to create this diamond floor plan that not only had the dance floor set on a diamond, but two estate tables in the shape of the diamond as well. Guests were in awe and ready to have fun.”

BRIDESMAID BOUQUET
$155 Traditionally, bridesmaid bouquets are smaller in size than bridal bouquets, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be fabulous! Peonies, Vendela roses and Snow on the Mountain make this bouquet a heavenly complement to the bridal bouquet on the next page.
Specifics BOUQUET BREAKDOWN Snow on the Mountain, peony, ranunculus, fern swords, pearl acacia, Vendela roses, phlox.
COST PER STEM Ranunculus—$5.00/stem Peony—$19.50/stem Snow on the Mountain—$2.75/stem
EXTRAS Ribbon wrap Silk, satin and velvet ribbons in various shades of taupe and gray $25
THE DESIGNER SAYS The inspiration was a garden-like bouquet that still had some structure to it and wasn’t terribly loose. Because we knew we wanted to utilize trailing ribbons of different colors and textures, the goal was for them to complement the beaded dresses as opposed to compete with them.

CASCADING BOUQUET
$350 Bouquets come in all shapes, sizes and, as a result, prices. With a bountiful arrangement of greenery and white blooms like gardenias and nerine lilies, this gorgeous cascading bouquet is fit for a princess.
Specifics BOUQUET BREAKDOWN Gardenias, peony, Lily of the Valley, dendrobium orchids, nerine lily, tulips, phlox, tweedia, veronica, bouvardia, verigated ivy
COST PER STEM Gardenia—$18.50/stem Dendrobium Orchids—$5.00/stem Nerine Lily—$7.50/stem
EXTRAS Ribbon wrap $10.00
THE DESIGNER SAYS The bride’s dress was so simple and understated that it was the perfect backdrop for a spectacular, cascading, over-the-top bouquet. I wanted it to be current but also make sure that it would stand the test of time and that she would still love looking at pictures of it in 25 years.

PINK OMBRE CAKE
$624 This simple ombre cake makes a high-class statement without the cost that comes with the intricate details of an elaborate design.
Specifics CAKE ELEMENTS Alternating tiers of raspberry white chocolate cake and lemon cake with vanilla fondant icing.
CAKE COST The total cost of this cake is $642 within our complimentary delivery range and your florist would provide the flowers to us (at an additional cost). Your design team will work with you on creating the cake display, including providing a stand.
COST PER SLICE $5.35 per serving, to serve 120 guests.
CAKE STAND The stand pictured here is the Davida Metal Cake Stand by Rosdorf Park, available from a number of online retailers for about $50. We removed the bottom pedestal of the stand for this photo.
THE DESIGNER SAYS We wanted a cake with a springtime feel in a blush palette, that wouldn’t be too fussy. This ombré blush effect offers a modern, minimalist look, accented with just a few flowers from the surrounding meadow to pull it together. A wedding cake doesn’t need a lot of detail to be beautiful!

CUSTOM LINENS
$74 (per table) Custom linens are an easy way to add a luxe feel to your reception tables. If you’re going for glam, add this to your list of must-haves!
Specifics LINEN BREAKDOWN The overlay in the photo is called Champagne Wild Rose Sheer and it has an ivory lamour base cloth.
LINEN COST Champagne Wild Rose Sheer Overlay / $50 each Ivory Lamour Base Cloth / $24 each
BENEFITS The costs can add up, but even just doing custom linens on the head table and/or cake table can make a big impact.
THE DESIGNER SAYS Custom linens can really enhance a wedding reception by creating another layer of detail to an event. A tabletop is the largest surface area of a decor piece in a room (other than the floor) and can create a huge impact if done well. I really love to use texture and things guests enjoy touching as well.

ARCH BREAKDOWN Elements used in this design include mixed greenery garland with roses, garden roses, ranunculus, hydrangea and filler flowers.
COST PER STEM For the types of flowers used in this arch, the cost per stem ranges between $3 and $10.
THE EXPERT SAYS “A garland designed of greenery and softly shaded blossoms adds a romantic feel to Mother Nature’s beautiful backdrops that will leave your guests breathless.”

Specifics TOTAL COST Costs vary based on the number of guests, but pricing starts at $400, with an average guest participation. When preparing, you should expect to pay for about 50% of your guest list, as that is a typical number of cigars needed.
SERVICE BREAKDOWN When you hire a cigar roller, you can expect an educational and entertaining experience where you will learn about all aspects of the creations of a cigar. You can also order custom labels to personalize your cigars for your wedding.
THE EXPERT SAYS “Cigar Rolling offers a unique experience for all guests, whether they are just interested in the artistic/ educational aspects or the complete cigar enjoyment experience. Over 500 people have had their first cigar at my table. It appeals to nearly everyone, because they either take a cigar for themselves or for someone in their life that enjoys them that couldn’t attend the wedding.”

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
$6,500+ Your wedding day is all about you. Personalize your entertainment by hiring a live band that will interact with your guests and add a memorable touch to your first dance.
Specifics BAND BREAKDOWN Average packages include a 4-hour time block, only one 20-minute break for the whole reception, a wardrobe change during break, the band will learn any one song to perform live if not on their song list, a DJ is included with Party At The Limit Band, free EMCEE services and basic lighting/sound set up.
EXTRAS Wedding Ceremony Production Package (includes 2 lavalier microphones, 1 corded microphone, 2 speakers, mixer, technician, set and strike): $600 GOBO Lighting: Starting price - $400 1-3 piece jazz band for cocktail hour entertainment: $400+ Advanced sound/stage up lighting upgrade: $1,200+ Band learning an additional song: $450 Travel expenses dependent on location: varies
THE EXPERT SAYS Hiring a live band is an extremely popular idea, especially for those couples in search of the continuous flow of high energy dance hits all night long! It’s the perfect combination of high energy and elegance that is sure to WOW the crowd. If you had one chance to dance with your spouse for the first time as a married couple, do you want it to be to the same recording that was played on the radio for the past 20 years, or do you want it to be a completely unique performance, just for you two?

LIVE ARTIST
$3,500+ Specifics PAINTING BREAKDOWN My Canvas Collection opens with a generous 24” x 30” canvas that allows me to beautifully capture the background and foreground details while maintaining the focal point of the composition on the couple. At the event, I use acrylic paint that has multiple benefits, the biggest being that it’s odor free. All the materials I use are museum grade and archival quality. When taken care of properly, the paintings should last for many generations. Each painting is delivered to the couple properly wired and “ready to hang.”
TOTAL COST Each painting is priced based on canvas size, rather than an hourly contracted rate. The entire day is blocked off for the couple—I arrive before the guests’ arrival and paint through the entirety of the ceremony and reception. The 24 x 30 in. canvas retails for $3,500 and pricing scales according to the canvas size, with travel being additional. I want to make sure each painting is perfect, so after the wedding, the painting goes back to the studio for finishing touches, with an 8-10 week turnaround.
THE ARTIST SAYS Two of the highest compliments we receive after many of our weddings is that “everyone is talking about it!” and that it was the couple’s favorite part of their wedding day! A live painting not only brings a lovely entertainment aspect to an event, but it’s also an investment in bespoke artwork that can be enjoyed for generations.

Before you go all Pinterest crazy and the little green monster inside of you starts to take over, we want to give you a bit of guidance to make sure that during your wedding planning process, you stay true to you. We know on a regular basis we are plagued with an overwhelming urge to keep up with the Joneses and it can be especially difficult to fend off that urge when it comes to your wedding. Here, we’ve compiled some basic tips to help you identify your true style as a couple and arm you with the know-how you’ll need to pull it all together.

BE TRUE TO YOU
LOCATION
Ultimately, you know deep down inside what's truly important to you. Just know this: your wedding is the first big event you will host together as a couple so it's the first time to let your personalities truly shine in front of friends and family. Whatever your source of inspiration, make decisions that feel right to you, not what you've seen other couples do.
Your venue will have a great deal of impact on the environment of your wedding. If you opt for a barn, you'll likely want to go for a more rustic feel. Or, if you book the most prestigious hotel in town, a glamorous wedding for you it is! Don't overlook your biggest expense in the wedding as a possible source for your overall theme too.
PASSION
TIME OF THE DAY
Everyone has a hobby, activity, cause or pledge they fully support and this may be just the place to draw inspiration from. Show off your priorities in life to your guests by finding inspiration from what your true passions are.
Are you a morning person or night owl? Whatever your preference, the time of day you ultimately choose to host your wedding ceremony and reception will affect the feel of the event. If you and your fiance are up and at 'em each day with a morning coffee, a brunch wedding just might be the thing for you. The possibilities are endless!
THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM
MUSE Inspiration abounds from a myriad of places and a muse might be just the thing you center your wedding style around. Your favorite movie, color, flower, character, season or destination. Pick something near and dear to you and let it guide all of your style decisions.
SCALE When you put together your guest list you'll either be looking at a large event or intimate gathering. The amount of people you choose to invite will affect the environment so when looking for sources of inspiration, remember how big or intimate the event will feel with the amount of friends and family in attendance and work off of that.
WEDDING PL ANNING DO'S & DON'TS Be considerate of family traditions and wants but don't feel chained to them.
Don't spend too much energy focusing on what others are doing.
Be authentic to YOUR true style.
Don't let the party details outshine the magic of your marriage.
Create a budget, fine tune it and stick to it.
Don't skimp on wedding vendors. Trust us... you get what you pay for.
Edit. Edit. Edit. Start with a big picture and bring it into focus from there.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Manage the guest list... Don’t feel obligated to invite everyone. This will help your budget too.
Brand It Branding might be a term you've only thought to be relevant to marketing departments. When it comes to modern day weddings, branding on a personal level takes company logos and color combinations and transforms them into monograms, slogans and themes.
JOINT INTERESTS
HERITAGE & HISTORY
Do you and the future hubs have a common interest that brought you together? Flying, skydiving, traveling or food? Whatever it is you spend your free time doing, consider letting it be the source of your wedding style. Golf anyone?
Do you hail from a great land afar or find yourself among a long lineage of great folks? Then let your family history and heritage guide the style of your wedding and enjoy reminiscing with your parents and loved ones about your roots.
WHAT'S IN A PERSONAL BRAND? Monograms, color preferences, favorite fonts and even paper weights are the essential tools-of-the-trade wedding stationers and designers use to make your personal style shine through to family and friends. HOW & WHERE TO BRAND.... If you want to create a custom wedding brand, your stationer is the go-to creative guru to turn to. They are the graphic designers behind all the great typography and scroll work you see in wedding magazines and blogs. Here are several places we recommend you use your personal wedding brand...
FORMALITY If you're a Great Gatsby girl at heart, a formal setting just might be the style for you. But, if a laid back casual setting is for you, so be it. Consider your personal preferences on dressing down or up when identifying the style wedding you want.
CONSIDER THE SEASON The time of the year could greatly affect the overall style of your wedding. Temperature and foliage are great places to find inspiration and build your wedding style around.

venue guide A Vetted Resource of the Most Reputable Special Event Locations Across Georgia and Florida.
Our Venue Guide is all about finding the right location for your wedding. After all, it all starts with your venue. There are appropriate facilities for parties of all sizes, but when you’re choosing the perfect spot for your next event, all of those options can be overwhelming. The size of the crowd will narrow your choices, but then there are still numerous types of venues to consider.
Whatever your particular tastes, when the time comes to choose your wedding location, know what to look for in a venue before you book.

WEDDING VENUE REVIEW So, exactly what type of occasion do you envision for your upcoming wedding? Knowing this will ease your venue search because the setting affects the overall style tremendously. Not to mention the budget! In the Southeast, the options for brides are limitless. From country clubs to hotels, city clubs, resorts, barns, private mansions and everything in between... you’ve got options.
QUESTIONS TO ASK A POTENTIAL VENUE . . . HOW MANY HOURS DOES MY RENTAL FEE INCLUDE? ARE THERE OVERTIME CHARGES?
HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THE SPACE HOLD (NOT JUST OFFICIAL CAPACIT Y) ACCORDING TO MY ROOM SET UP?
Some venues charge by the hour for use of their facility. Knowing exactly how many hours are included, and allotting plenty of time for set up and tear down is important.
Your room set up will greatly affect the amount of guests you can have at your wedding. Official capacities are for the fire marshal. You'll want to focus on how many guests you can fit into the room with a seated dinner, estate table, dance floor or buffet set up.
HOW DO YOU CHARGE? PER PERSON, BY THE HOUR OR FL AT FEE? It’s always good to know how your venue charges for rental. It's likely facilities that include catering will charge a per person rate and venues without catering will charge a flat fee or hourly rental.
CAN I BRING IN MY OWN VENDORS OR DO I HAVE TO USE A PREFERRED VENDOR LIST SUPPLIED BY THE VENUE? Many venues will supply you with a list of their preferred wedding vendors to use. This can be helpful to the bride who needs direction and referrals but also a hindrance for brides who know exactly which vendors they'd like to use. Clarify with your venue whether it's required or not to use their specified vendors before you book.
CAN I BRING IN MY OWN ALCOHOL? Venues that don't carry their own liquor license may allow brides to bring in their own alcohol. This is not typically the norm, but there are a few venues out there with this option. Remember, if you do opt to bring in your own alcohol, you'll want to hire a bar service to tend to guests.
IF NOT, IS THERE AN ALCOHOL MINIMUM? Often venues with liquor licenses will have a bar minimum in addition to the cost of their venue rental. Best to have a heads up about this before you book for budgeting.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE VENUE RENTAL? Most venues have house items that are included in the cost of their facility rental like dance floors, tables, chairs, standard linens, etc. But, there are several venues that don't offer this and could result in an additional cost to you. Ask before you book.
WHAT IS THE PARKING SITUATION? Valet parking, limited options, street parking or ample complimentary parking for guests are all important things to consider.
WILL THERE BE OTHER WEDDINGS HAPPENING ON THE SAME DAY? Depending on the size of the venue, it will be nice to know whether your event will be the only one happening on property or if there will be others. Other events may infringe on your time use of the venue or create confusion for guests so best to be prepared.
HOW MUCH ARE TAXES AND GRATUIT Y? ARE THEY INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE PRICES? Taxes and gratuity can vary greatly. Some venues include both in their package prices while others add it on. Be sure to consider this when you are planning your budget, as it can be well over 30% of your reception budget.
RECEPTION VENUE CHECKLIST . . . The thing about a wedding venue is... there are a lot of extras, options and upgrades and every single venue has a different package and procedure. So, to make sure you are comparing apples to apples, use this handy checklist when identifying the best venue for you.
VENUE OPTIONS INCLUDED Coordinator Cake Table Head Table Gift Table Sound System Stage Air Conditioning Clean up Corkage Valet Parking

KOHLER, WI: HISTORIC MIDWEST GARDEN COMMUNITY John Michael Kohler and his water trough-turned bathtub sparked Kohler Co. and what would become the Village of Kohler over 130 years ago. The garden community was the result of a master plan created by the Olmstead Brothers, who also designed New York’s Central Park. Today, Kohler is home to a world-class resort, award-winning championship golf courses, a fivestar spa and so much more. Now a five-diamond hotel celebrating its 100th anniversary, The American Club originally served as housing for immigrant workers in the early 1900s. As years passed and the community grew, Kohler Co. realized the building had begun to lose its purpose. Following a grand idea, extensive renovations and being listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, The American Club reopened in 1981 as a luxurious hotel. The classic vibe of this Tudor-style building is ideal for weddings and other special occasions. Outdoor courtyards set a charming scene for ceremonies and cocktail hours, while indoor ballrooms are perfect for elegant receptions. Along with The American Club, the three-diamond Inn at Woodlake is a great option for accommodations, with its boutique-style guest rooms and new suites for larger groups. A private beach nestled behind the hotel on the shore of Wood Lake is also available for intimate lakefront ceremonies. Whistling Straits Golf Course offers a more rustic setting for couples. The Championship Locker Room Terrace is a scenic place to tie the knot, with the glimmering waters of Lake Michigan as its backdrop. The Irish Barn’s open east wall overlooks the course and lake, creating a heavenly sight for an open-air reception. 1 WEDDING PL ANNER
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan on hiring a full-service planner at least 12 months from your wedding day. You should choose your wedding planner first to reserve your date on their calendar and have their guidance during the entire wedding planning process. From the beginning to the end, your wedding planner will be your experienced counsel for every vendor interview, contract, and scheduling question.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . How do you charge? Per hour, lump sum, percentage of total budget? Are there specific vendors you like to use? What is the process of selecting and hiring vendors? Can I use other vendors? What is the process of paying vendors? Is that done through you or direct to vendors? Do you handle vendor services, contract and payment processing? Do you handle guest list coordination and RSVPs? What is your specialty? How many meetings will we have together? In person, via phone?
92
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Full service wedding planners range in price from $5,000$7,000+, while monthof coordinators will likely charge between $2,000-$3,000 depending on the scope of work.

2 VENUE AND CATERING
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Venue and catering should be booked about 12 months from your wedding day. Book early to reserve your preferred wedding date as event venues will likely be booked for weddings up to a year in advance. Your budgeting will rely on whether or not catering is included in the pricing on your contract, so do your research. The style of your wedding venue will affect the overall style of your wedding. Whether you choose a glamorous ballroom or countryside barn—everything from your wedding dress, flowers to music selection will be affected.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . Do you specialize in specific food types?
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Catering costs are dependent on the menu, venue and set up, but for a starting point can run between $35-$110+ per person not including any alcohol, linen or decor upgrades.
Is a tasting included in your services? Will you provide waitstaff? Is that extra? If so, what is the ratio of staff to guest? What will your staff wear? How do you work with my wedding planner and venue? Will you feed everyone, including band members and waitstaff? If so, what is their menu and cost per person? Do you handle china, silverware and glassware rental? What do you charge for cake cutting and serving? Is tax and gratuity included? How do you handle clean up and trash removal?

3 WEDDING DRESS
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan on purchasing your wedding dress about 11 months from your wedding day. Once you decide on where you will get married and where the reception will be, it’s time to go dress shopping! Knowing your wedding location is just as important as knowing your dress size when it comes to shopping for a gown, so be sure to have a solid idea of your venue. Most bridal stores will need to place the order for your dress from the dress designer at least 10 months in advance, while custom creations could take even longer. Pick your bridal party and groomsmen attire now too.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . Are appointments required to try on bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses? How far in advance should I schedule an appointment, and how long do appointments last? How many guests can attend the appointment with me? Who should I bring? Should I bring special undergarments, shoes or accessories? What sample sizes do you carry? What designers do you feature? What price range can I expect? Do I have to pay in full before the gown is ordered? How long will it take for my gown to arrive? Are alterations included? 94
$
How much does it cost?
PRICE RANGE Wedding dresses are going to range enormously depending on designer, intricacy of details (like lace or beading), and how much of the gown is custom. An average dress, however, is going to hover anywhere from $2,000-$6,000. THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM
4 PHOTOGRAPHY HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan to book a photographer 11 months from your wedding date. Since photography businesses are most often run by a single person or small teams of creative professionals that work one wedding per day, it's important to book early. Be sure to take your venue into account when determining your preferred photography style. Digital photography thrives both indoors and out, and has a timeless look while light and airy film photography should be reserved for those celebrating their day outside, since it needs as much natural light as possible.
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Professional wedding photographers will likely charge between $3,000$6,000+ depending on experience level, demand, medium, and packages.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . What is your primary style of photography? Traditional or documentary? How independent is the photographer? Does he want to know all the shots you’d like or free reign to shoot all the moments of the day at will? Will the photographer I book be the one to shoot my wedding? How long after the wedding will the photos be ready? What happens if the photographer is ill on the day of the wedding? What are your backup procedures? What is included in your pricing? Albums, hours of coverage, engagement session, etc.?

5 VIDEOGRAPHY
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan on hiring a videographer about 10 months from your wedding date. More often than not, a videography business is run by a single person or a duo of creative professionals that work one wedding per day. Much of why you’ll hire them is based on loving their editing style, ability to capture details most important to you (like a first dance, or the ceremony itself) and loving their pricing even more, so once you find your match, make it official by signing the contract. With a film, you'll be able to relive your day with your future family and remember even the smallest details you and your vendor team worked so hard to create.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . What is your cinematography style? Documentary, movie-like or artistic? Have you worked with our photographer? How does the crew stay unobtrusive during the ceremony and reception? How long after the wedding will the video be ready? What is your process? Am I allowed to make edits once you present video to us? What are your backup procedures?

How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Professional wedding videographers will likely charge between $2,400$5,000+ depending on experience level, demand and packages

6 FLORAL DESIGN
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan on choosing your floral designer about eight months from your wedding day. With such a length of time from your day, you have a good amount of time to get on the schedule for the best wedding florist in your area and brainstorm with them on what the vision of your wedding is. With the help of your planner, you and your floral designer can select a color palette, make note of blooms you love (or hate!) and outline a proper budget for the arrangements you'll need created. Knowing what styles you like before going into a consultation means more time talking helpful specifics for you and your florist.
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Flower pricing is dependent on the amount of decor at your wedding. You’ll want to budget starting at $1,500 for the basics like bouquets, boutonnières and know the sky is truly the limit for the rest.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . What is your style? What is your process? Has the florist/designer worked at your venue before? How do items get returned after the wedding? Will they pick up? Does the designer offer rental items.. vases, trellis, decor... or must they be supplied via a rental company? Can my guests take centerpieces home? Do you charge for mockup centerpieces before my wedding or is that included? How can I stay within my budget without having small bouquets and arrangements? Dahlias are my favorite kind of flower. Will they be in season for my wedding?

7 HAIR & MAKEUP
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan on hiring your hair and makeup artist team about six to eight months from your wedding date. Chances are you are as thick as thieves with your hair dresser and have your cut and color pre-booked every time you leave the salon, and for good reason! But does your stylist do bridal updos? Many don’t. That's where on-site teams come in. Your beauty vendors will likely only be able to serve one full bridal party per Saturday. So book them sooner rather than later.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . How far in advance should I book my appointment? I’d like to book with my bridesmaids. Will you be able to accommodate all of us? How much time should I allow for hair and makeup on my wedding day? Is there an extra charge for airbrush makeup and/or false eyelashes? How much should I expect to spend? Is a down payment required to book an appointment? Do you offer consultations and trials? My hair is fairly thin. Do you offer hair extensions? Do you offer onsite services? How far will you travel? Can you accommodate sensitive skin? Do you offer a touch-up kit or touch-up services? 98
$
How much does it cost?
PRICE RANGE On-site bridal hair will usually cost around $125 while full makeup application will average around $85. Bridesmaids and moms average around $85 for hair styling and $75 for makeup application. Trials and consultation for both typically run about $75. THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM
8 INVITATIONS & PAPERGOODS
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Look into booking your stationer six to eight months in advance of your wedding date. If you would like to send out save the dates, you’ll want to choose your stationery designer eight months in advance. For invitations only, you should start to look at options six months out. Traditional etiquette states invitations should be mailed out at least eight weeks prior to the wedding day. Custom stationery processes will likely take around two to three months, since multiple consultations, proofing and printing time needs to be taken into account.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . .
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Depending on the complexity of the invitation suites, you can expect to pay between $4 - $8+ per invite. Further customizations will increase your per piece price.
Do you design custom work or sell from invitation lines? Do you help with branding or custom monograms? Is there a specific style you specialize in? Do you offer calligraphy or addressing services? Can I purchase additional personalized items like Save-the Date, welcome bags, favor tags, etc.? Will you supply a proof before the invitation is officially printed? What happens if there is an error? How long after I place the order will the invitations come in? Can I customize the wording? Can personal photos be added to your designs?

9 WEDDING CAKE
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Plan to hire a baker six to eight months in advance. While a cake baker can serve multiple weddings in a weekend, chances are they can’t serve an endless amount. So we say get on the schedule in advance by signing the wedding cake contract. Again, it’s likely you’ll have your tasting a bit later in the process, but reserving your spot in their weekend schedule ahead of time will make sure you get the cake baker you like the best. Before your tasting, be sure to research what types of frostings and finishes do best in your style venue.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . . Are you licensed by the state health department? How does delivery work? What happens if something is damaged on the cake in transit? Do you do sugar flowers and custom sculptured pieces from sugar? What are the options for cake flavors and fillings? Fondant or Buttercream? What is your average cost per slice? Will you design a custom cake or do you have preset styles to choose from?
$
How much does it cost? PRICE RANGE Your wedding cake will likely cost approximately $4 - $8+ per slice depending on the complexity of the design, baker’s skill level and availability.
Is the cake stand provided by you?

WHAT TO TIP YOUR VENDORS
M O D E R N G U I D E T O G R AT U I T I E S If there’s one gray area in the wedding world, it’s paying gratuities. Long-standing etiquette says ones thing and modern trend says another. We say: if you loved your service—show it with a tip. By Meghan Bishop Whether your vendor owns their business or is an hourly employee matters little. Gratuity says "I'm so thankful for the extra care you showed to me," and giving shouldn't be determined by who the boss is. It's determined by the quality of service. Here's a list of the vendors you should plan to tip because of their onsite expertise at the end of your very long, very fabulous big day.
WEDDING PLANNER Traditionally, it has been thought that you don't need to give your wedding planner anything for a tip. But, considering they're the one vendor who has done the bulk of the work on your wedding—we say, why not? Did he/she knock your socks off by pulling off your wedding flawlessly? Was there a ton of extra work involved that wasn’t discussed when pricing was set? Whatever the case may be, you can feel comfortable giving between $100 to 10% of their fees in cash or a gift in the same amount to show your gratitude. TIP: $100 to 10% of fees PHOTOGRAPHERS & VIDEOGRAPHERS In our opinion, your photographer and videographer will be the most important vendors you choose. Each photographer on the day of your wedding should be tipped $100200, and second shooters $50-75. TIP: $50-200 per person CEREMONY MUSICIANS Not sure what to give the string trio that played your wedding march? What about the choir that sang as you lit your unity candle? If it was a professional group, 10% of the entire amount charged to be split amongst the musicians. If it’s a civic or church group and they didn’t charge, give a donation either to the group or the church—just as you would a religious officiant. TIP: 10% of fee to be split among musicians
THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN TIPPING...
102
RECEPTION MUSICIANS OR DJ Every guest was on the dance floor and your party was non-stop all night! You should tip $25-50, per musician. For the DJ—he/she is the one person responsible for the entire flow and energy of your event. We think they deserve a whole lotta love for guaranteeing a good time. MUSICIAN TIP: $25-50 per person DJ TIP: $100-200 OFFICIANT Your dad’s friend is a judge, your neighbor got registered online, your junior high school pastor, or your pastor now that you are an adult has accepted the job of conducting your service— etiquette says no cash should be given. Instead, give a thank you card and a gift card or a donation to the house of worship if affiliated. TIP: A donation and thank you note will do CATERING STAFF This varies depending on the region of the country you are in. In the South, it is appropriate to tip $20 per person to the onsite staff and $50 to the lead catering manager. You can give the manager the amount of money you intend to tip each waitstaff to distribute to them. You can get hard fast numbers of wait staff from the caterer beforehand when giving final head count to the caterer to help you prepare. TIP: $20-50 per person BARTENDER Your bartender will deal with a bunch of guest
craziness the evening of your wedding (i.e. "There is tooooooo much coke in my Jack"). Bartenders who work on a catering staff team make a higher hourly wage than what you'd expect in a restaurant so you can tip them the same as the other catering staff. No need to go above and beyond, unless you really want to. TIP: $20-50 like the other catering event staff DRIVER TIP Your driver will wait outside for 30 minutes as you say your goodbyes to your friends and family and make sure your take-away plate is in the car for your midnight snack before he drives clear across town to your desired place! Proper tip is 15-20% presented after arrival. TIP: 15-20% of fees RENTAL STAFF TIP This one is optional. Rental drop off delivery people sometimes get $20-50 per person depending on how much they are bringing in and having to set up. Most of the time you have a team of 2-4 depending on the size of the order and they will be the last ones out of the space at the end of the night. TIP: $20-50 per person HAIR STYLIST & MAKEUP ARTIST As important as pictures are, your hair and makeup professional will help ensure you look the best! Hair and make-up professionals should get 15-20% of the total bill. TIP: 15-20% of services
Some vendors may have gratuity included in their contract–if this is the case, no tip is necessary. Read your contract to be certain. Also, if a vendor does not fulfill what was expected, don’t feel obligated. And if you want to reward a vendor that you didn’t get a chance to see or interact with, don’t underestimate the power of a sincere thank you card with a little token of your appreciation inside. Tipping is something you should be prepared to do (a lot of) on your wedding day. The caliber of the professionals you hire will determine the amount of tips you should budget for. INSIGHT
HOW TO HOST AN UNPLUGGED WEDDING CEREMONY By Molly McKinley
DO: Hire a great photographer and planner. The best photographers push their way in, are on top of it, are ahead of schedule, and do their best work alongside the planner to ensure guests don’t ruin precious moments being caught on camera. And if they do? They ask for those moments to be re-done if they are important. Missed the kiss at the cake cutting because of a guest? Take another. DON’T: Put any mention of an unplugged ceremony in your invitation. That is not appropriate, just like you shouldn’t include your registries, “no jeans,” and “no children.” If you absolutely must, have your stationer create a completely separate enclosure for your request. Carefully curate your words alongside your stationer and wedding planner—you should always be a polite host. DO: Make a note on your wedding website! It’s a great, unobtrusive way to let guests know your wishes. DON’T: Assume that your guests will put their phones away the entire night. That is asking a lot. Placing signs on your guest tables just furthers the distraction. Instead, don’t give them the chance to be on their phones—throw a great party! Make your guests put their phones down because the band is too good! Engage them! DO: Verbally encourage guests in a polite way to make sure their phones are either off or on silent and put away during the ceremony. Your ushers and greeters can handle this for you. Have your wedding planner brief them on the task before they begin. Your officiant can also mention something at the beginning of your ceremony.
104
“Create a sign near where guests are entering, in a place where they will stop. The sign should be easily readable but complement your wedding style.”
DON’T: Turn into Bridezilla and Groomzilla. You can only control things to a certain point. Enjoy your day and realize you’re surrounded by LOVE! (Even if there are a few phones still involved after all of your work.) DO: Create a sign near where guests are entering, in a place where they will stop (near where ushers are seating). Some guests won’t get the memo, despite verbal encouragement while they’re being seated. The sign should be easily readable but complement your wedding style. DON’T: Assume guests are conditioned to know to turn off their electronics. A gentle reminder is necessary to ensure your guests are informed and on board. DO: Include an insert in your program. However, remember that programs are keepsakes for you and many other guests. Do you want your unplugged ceremony verbiage to pop out awkwardly from your
THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM
beautiful and thoughtful program? Have your stationer print a small insert to remind guests. It gets the point across without tainting your stunning program! DO: Make sure you are able to share your photos with guests, if you’re asking them not to take their own. Ask your photographer about this, as many do not include rights to the photos to make additional revenue online. That is their prerogative, but you can likely buy the rights to the photos to share them with guests. Keep in mind that the traditional photographer’s timeline is at least six to eight weeks to turn images around. If you’d like guests to be able to enjoy photos sooner, a photo booth is always a great option! DON’T: Share your photographer’s photos without permission. This could get you into trouble! Ask, ask, ask.

An “Unplugged Wedding” has become a common wedding term over the past few years in an effort to push guests to lose their phones and iPads and be present during special moments. When you have a professional photographer onsite, there’s no need for everyone to have their camera out to capture each moment too. Here’s how to politely tell guests that they can leave their gadgets behind.

INSIGHT
THE INS & OUTS OF CONTRACTS & DEPOSITS By Zach Thomas
In the midst of all the fun that comes with wedding planning, a bride ought to know a thing or two about those serious contracts she’s signing on the dotted line. Why do I have to pay a deposit to vendors like photographers, DJs, planners, etc? To discuss a deposit, it also becomes a discussion about contracts—they go hand-inhand. The contract spells out the agreement (date, time and rate; and what you should expect from the vendor, what the vendor should expect from you) and the deposit is the force behind that agreement. The deposit allows the vendor to be confident in turning away other potential clients for the same date, and it allows the couple to feel confident their vendor will show up and perform their hired duties the day of the wedding.
“The deposit allows the vendor to be confident in turning away other potential clients for the same date, and it allows the bride to feel confident their vendor will show up.”
Is a standard practice of wedding vendors to require a deposit? Yes. If the vendor you are choosing to work with doesn’t require a contract and deposit, you should be concerned about what other things they are leaving out of their business (e.g. insurance, back-up equipment, or experience). If there isn’t a contract and deposit requirement, that is a red flag. Remember, a contract and deposit also protects the customer and adds peace of mind that a vendor will show up and do the job they are hired for. How much money should I expect to put down for my deposit? This amount varies, but 50% is fairly standard. What if I have to cancel? Read over any contract you are signing, and ask the vendor you are working with to explain anything you are unclear about. Weddings don’t happen for a number of reasons—break-ups, family disagreements, weather issues, and sometimes the couple get so overwhelmed planning they run off to Vegas to elope. If you need to cancel, notify the vendor immediately and just be open to having a conversation about what your contract may entitle you to. Many contracts have the flexibility to deal with the various 106
reasons for cancellation. Sometimes if the vendor is able to book another client with a comparable package on the same day, the deposit or a portion is refundable no matter the reason.
allow for a partial return of deposit, within a certain period of time before the event. Most photographers can’t do that because it’s much harder to fill the date, especially the closer you get to the event.
What if I pay a deposit and the vendor has to cancel? You should ask for your deposit to be promptly refunded.
What if I cancel, and I feel like I deserve my deposit back? The terms should be clearly spelled out in the contract. Weddings (and planning them!) are emotional, but when dealing with vendors a customer should always keep in mind that they are working with business owners.
What type of legal wording should I look for in a vendor contract specific to deposits? You should make sure what is and what is not refundable is clearly articulated. Some vendors who work with multiple clients in a day may THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM

ASHLEY &KARL October 15, 2016 Atlanta, GA

Ashley and Karl’s celebration was the perfect blend of modernity and tradition, including everything from the Atlanta skyline to Ashley’s South Indian heritage. The couple fell in love with Ventanas the moment they walked in and knew it’d be the perfect setting for their rooftop nuptials. The day began with Ashley’s aunts assisting her bridesmaids. Instead of traditional bridesmaid dresses, they wore aqua saris and an array of stunning Indian jewelry. Ashley fell in love with a sassy backless dress with long illusion sleeves and sparkly embellishments the moment she saw it at Demetrios Brides. To tie their looks together, she wore a gold Indian headpiece. Karl donned a dark blue tux, while his groomsmen dressed in traditional black, with white boutonnières adorning their lapels. The couple exchanged vows on the Ventanas rooftop, surrounded by lush white floral arrangements, the city skyline serving as their backdrop. A heavenly reception awaited them inside. Clouds of white roses and hydrangeas floated above glowing candles and gold linen. A glorious gold cake by For Goodness Cakes sat atop an aqua table that matched the bridesmaids’ saris. Ashley and Karl shared a first dance after dinner, then stole away for a wardrobe change as their guests enjoyed entertainment from a live band. The couple reentered to a round of applause—Ashley in a red and gold sari and Karl in a brocade white jacket. The evening ended in with a glow stick send off and a spectacular helicopter getaway.

Cameron and Stephen knew the industrial vibe and open layout of The Foundry at Puritan Mill would be the perfect blank slate for their colorful summer wedding. The couple shared a first look on Jackson Street Bridge before making their way to the ceremony, where a variety of colorful blooms in dainty white vases lined the aisle and flowing white drapery hung from the ceiling. Bridesmaids in shades of purple carried vibrant bouquets of pink and peach, while groomsmen in gray donned thistle boutonnières. Cameron made her way down the aisle in a custom Watters gown with a lace illusion neckline, carrying a wild bouquet of pink flowers and succulent accents. Instead of a traditional unity candle, the couple placed a bottle of wine and love notes to each other in a wooden box, which they would open on their one year anniversary to enjoy, replace and reopen every year after. The newlyweds walked hand-in-hand past family and friends, ready to celebrate the next step of their journey. The room was flipped for the reception — another feature Cameron and Stephen loved about the venue. As guests reentered, they were greeted by a heavenly sight. Lavender linens and a rustic wooden estate table filled the open space. Vibrant floral arrangements in a variety of vases and a sprig of dried lavender tucked neatly into ivory napkins brought a hint of summer indoors. A white tiered textured cake from Cakes by Anna stood covered in blooms next to a variety of mini treats from Revolution Doughnuts, the couple’s favorite neighborhood doughnut shop. Following dinner, dessert and their first dance, Cameron and Stephen danced the night away with family and friends before making their exit. The newlyweds left the venue through a sea of bubbles, stopping for a romantic kiss along the way. THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM

Cori and Michael fell in love with the rustic elegance of Foxhall Resort and Sporting Club and knew it would be the place they’d wed. The March day was cool and crisp. A string trio filled the room with beautiful music as guests entered and awaited the start of ceremony. Bridesmaids in shades of gray made their way down the aisle, accompanied by groomsmen with light pink bowties. Cori made her entrance in a stunning fitted lace gown, carrying a delicate bouquet. She joined the love of her life in front of a gorgeous arch, covered in greenery and speckled with flowers in shades of pink. Sealed with a kiss, the couple exited the venue arm-in-arm as husband and wife. After outdoor photos with their wedding party, Cori and Michael headed back inside, ready to celebrate. They were greeted by crisp white linens and rustic wood tables. Romantic neutral centerpieces by Forage and Fleur were complemented by single blooms in smaller glassware. Classic white china, garnished with a sprig of greenery, sat atop gray linen napkins. After a delicious dinner by Simply Catering, guests were treated to a slice of one of two cakes from Lush Cakery—the couple’s wedding cake with vanilla and buttercream frosting, or Michael’s groom cake, which was a peanut butter and chocolate Georgia Tech cornhole cake. Cori and Michael shared a first dance, then danced the night away with family and friends, who raved about DJ Qtip—that evening’s excellent entertainment.

JESSICA &TIM March 23, 2016 Malabar, FL
Live Oaks, Spanish moss and a hint of southern charm set the scene for Jessica and Tim’s intimate brunch wedding at Up the Creek Farms—a property that was the bride’s childhood home. Guests filed in to the ceremony to the sound of a baby grand piano on the sunny spring day. Jessica donned a battenburg lace gown and carried a bouquet of ivory and pink, while Tim wore a blue suit and paisley tie. The couple exchanged vows under a ring of lush greenery, encircled by family and friends seated on upholstered furniture from Crystal & Crates Vintage Rentals, as a live artist encapsulated the moment on canvas. After stealing away for a few photos, the newlyweds made their way to the barn, where they were greeted by the scent of blooming orange blossoms on citrus trees that lined the walls. Ladders covered in greenery hung as centerpieces over rustic tables with floral linens. Music from a fiddle and guitar filled the room with bluegrass and country as guests enjoys an array of southern brunch selections, including mimosas, chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes, mini pies and more. Jessica and Tim treated their loved ones to a surprise grand exit, driving out of the barn in a strategically placed ’48 Ford truck. The couple boarded a private plane at the airport to embark on their honeymoon.

JULIA &ERIC November 12, 2016 Savannah, GA
After falling in love in Savannah, Julia and Eric knew they’d tie the knot there. An elegant and intimate wedding of 30 guests seemed like the perfect way to celebrate. The day began with an outdoor ceremony at Columbia Square, where guests sat in vintage pews. Julia made her way down the aisle in a simple silk Amsale gown and custom Italian veil. Her bouquet was a variety of stems in wine and burgundy. Eric’s tie matched perfectly and served as a pop of color against his gray vest and navy suit. Sealed with a kiss, the newlyweds, along with their loved ones, took a historic trolley ride around the city from Old Savannah Tours, which would carry them to a glowing outdoor reception at the Harper Fowlkes House. Southern charm and elegance carried throughout the décor. An abundance of deep blooms, lush greenery and candles sat atop vintage tables with gold chargers, navy linen napkins and custom engraved place cards from Germany. Julia and Eric’s seats were marked with peaches that read Mr. and Mrs. A coursed dinner of southern favorites was served, along with homemade Georgia peach sorbet and a tiered hummingbird cake. The couple shared their first dance and enjoyed an evening of music by local artist Isaac Smith.

KARA & M AT T February 25, 2017 Atlanta, GA
Brick walls, dark floors and bohemian décor in deep jewel tones set a cozy scene for Kara and Matt’s late-winter wedding at the King Plow Arts Center. Organic greenery and a row of glowing candles served as a backdrop for the ceremony. Bridesmaids in navy dresses with embellished necklines and groomsmen in charcoal suits were a polished contrast to the industrial setting. Kara made her entrance in a romantic backless gown with long illusion sleeves by Hayley Paige. Her hand-tied bouquet of deep red and plum strikingly complemented the delicate lace. Surrounded by family and their closest friends, the couple exchanged vows in a personalized ceremony, officiated by Matt’s uncle. An evening of celebration followed. The reception décor included hand-painted stone table markers, tall centerpieces topped with tufts of greenery and vibrant floral, and a wooden estate table lined with candles and wild blooms in a variety of small bottles. Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner and “his and her” desserts of brownie sundaes and crème brulée. Keeping with tradition, the couple cut into a small chocolate cake with Oreo filling, provided by Bold Catering & Design in addition to dessert. After a night of dancing and celebration with loved ones, Kara and Matt exited the venue through cheers and a sea of bubbles.

Leslie and Greg’s magical day, designed by Eliana Baucicault of ellyB Events, was a combination of hometowns, wow-factors and #SuperLove, creating something beyond their wildest dreams. Guests arrived to a vibrant sight at The Foundry at Puritan Mill, a venue that reminded Leslie of the French Quarter in her hometown of New Orleans. Ceremony programs were traditional church fans, a nod to Greg’s upbringing in New York. Cherry blossom trees lined the aisle, creating a fairytale-like canopy as bridesmaids in bold blue and purple and groomsmen in gray filed in. Left breathless by the ethereal ceremony before her, Leslie began her candle-lit stroll toward her husband-to-be, who awaited her under a dome of lush foliage, hydrangeas and roses, tears of happiness in his eyes. Shortly after, the newlyweds danced their way out of the ceremony as husband and wife. They stole away for outdoor portraits under string lights and a clear night sky as their reception was readied. Glowing centerpieces, luxurious linens, vibrant purple chargers and a lush elevated runner that sat atop the grand estate table set a night-like tone for the evening’s celebration. Guests enjoyed a choice of three dinner stations— Bourbon Street, Tavern on the Green and Peachtree Street. Each featured culinary staples from Leslie’s hometown of New Orleans, Greg’s upbringing in New York, and Atlanta, where the couple met and began their relationship. A tiered blue cake donning a gold sugar flower by Cakes by LaMeeka was served as dessert alongside Greg’s Superman groom’s cake, with a “K” replacing the traditional “S.” The couple enjoyed a riveting evening of entertainment and dancing before exiting under a shower of purple petals. Sarasota seemed to be the perfect destination wedding location for Illinois natives Michelle and Ben. Instead of chilly Midwest weather and rustic autumn colors, the couple enjoyed warm sunshine and a softer palette. In a hand-designed gown by Mira Couture, Michelle made her way down the petal-covered aisle of the Ritz Carlton Beach Club, where her soon-tobe husband stood in front of a beautiful beach scene. She took her place by his side, next to bridesmaids in white and groomsmen in charcoal tuxes. The couple exchanged vows and turned to exit as husband and wife—family and friends showering them with white petals as they passed. After cocktails on the mezzanine, an ethereal outdoor reception awaited them under a frame of white drapery. Gold chandeliers hung elegantly above pale blue luxury linens, gold dinnerware and white flowers in delicate glass vases. The Red Hot Band set a romantic mood during dinner, served by the Ritz Carlton. Later that evening, guests were treated to a spectacular firework display by Zambelli Fireworks, with coordinated music by Mark Joseph Creative. A four-piece bongo band led the celebration into the ballroom, where one last surprise awaited the newlyweds and their guests—a stilt walker that kept the energy going, making for a memorable end to the night.

HONEYMOON PLANNING
Save yourself time, money and frustration by booking your honeymoon through a professional travel consultant. Travel agencies have connections to airlines, cruise lines and resorts and can offer money-saving packages that include everything—even food and drinks. They’ll also help you with last minute adjustments, time changes, flight cancellations and more.
The most stress-free way to book your honeymoon is through a professional travel consultant, but you’ll still need to plan accordingly. Here’s what you’ll need to know before you make your getaway.
10–12 MONTHS BEFORE:
2 MONTHS BEFORE:
2 WEEKS BEFORE:
Set your trip budget, talk about your travel desires, discuss destinations that you’ve always wanted to see and determine the length of your trip. Do some research, talk to friends, post questions online. Visit a travel professional to get brochures and information.
Make reservations for any special dinners, spa treatments, or tours you don’t want to miss. Space can be limited so book early.
Make two copies of your passports, credit cards, and your insurance cards. Give one to a friend or relative and place an extra set in your luggage in case your originals are lost or stolen on the trip. Book and/or confirm transportation needs to and from the airport. Verify cellular charges at your destination.
8–10 MONTHS BEFORE: If possible, work with a travel agent. Let a professional take care of the arrangements and reservations. An agent specializing in honeymoon travel can be extremely adept at getting you special amenities and upgrades.
1 MONTH BEFORE: Make your packing list and gather any missing items. Reconfirm reservations and review your travel documents for any missing items. Make arrangements for any items that need special care while you are gone, such as your home, pets and plants.
6–8 MONTHS BEFORE: Obtain travel documents, such as passports and visas. Make sure the name on your travel documents matches that of your identification. Research any special activities or tours you’re interested in and take any required certification classes if necessary.
4–6 MONTHS BEFORE: Begin to collect items for your trip. Compile a list of items to pack, especially if you’ll need any items that are more available seasonally, like swim suits and sunscreen. Check out onlocation excursion and activity fees. Research any travel-related equipment you would like to purchase, such as a digital camera or new luggage.
QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL VENDORS . . .
Win a Honeymoon! Register for a chance to win an all-inclusive romantic getaway THECELEBRATIONSOCIETY.COM/ WIN-A-HONEYMOON
Do you specialize in honeymoon planning? Are there extra fees involved in booking with you? Should we get trip insurance? How much is it and what does it cover? Based on when we want to travel, what areas will have the best weather?
150
1 WEEK BEFORE: Fill out forms to have your mail held and stop your newspapers. Make arrangements for your bridal registry to hold any shipments until you return and confirm transport of gifts from your reception if you’re leaving right after the wedding. Refill any prescriptions you’ll need on your trip and carry them in their original containers for customs and security clearance.
3 DAYS BEFORE: Pack extreme essentials in your carry-on bag, like medicines, glasses, contacts, etc. Pack the rest in your luggage. Consider putting half your items in his suitcase and vice versa, just in case one gets lost. Give the house-sitter any necessary keys or security codes. Check the weather forecast for your departure date and your destination.
1 DAY BEFORE: Reconfirm your flights. Confirm your luggage has your identification on the inside and outside. Get plenty of sleep.
What does the package include? Are transfers and resort fees included? Which destinations offer honeymoon upgrades? What activities or excursions are included in the package? Is it safe to leave the resort at our destination?

Barbara Brown Taylor was the rector of Grace Calvary Episcopal church at the time, and she said, “the church wasn’t empty as the pews were full of angels.” Our reception was an intimate dinner for six (partners of wedding party joined us) in a parlor complete with a roaring fireplace at the charming Stovall House in Sautee, Georgia. We stayed the weekend in the mountains at The Lumsden Homeplace and chose a delayed honeymoon to Caneel Bay on St. John of the USVI. BEST WEDDING PL ANNING ADVICE When planning your wedding, I highly recommend hiring seasoned professionals for all areas of the event. In doing this, you have insured for yourself a flawless, stress free process and on the day of your wedding you can relax in knowing everything will go smoothly. Having an independent, experienced planner is my number one piece of advice. WORDS OF WISDOM FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE We remain happily married after 25 years with two grown kids and are still madly in love with each other. Whether it’s how to raise the children, finances, or even politics, we always keep the lines of communication wide open. Marrying your best friend is another huge key to a successful marriage. We were great friends before we ever had our first date. 152
