ABOUT THE SONGBOOK FOUNDATION
ABOUT THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK FOUNDATION
America has a rich tradition of creating music—classical, folk, pop, jazz, rock. The Great American Songbook consists of enduring standards, the songs that are played and sung over and over by multiple generations. These songs have a timeless meaning and resonance, whether they are days or decades old. Based at the Palladium, the Great American Songbook Foundation is affiliated with the Center for the Performing Arts and is one of a handful of worldwide Cultural Affiliates of the Los Angeles-based GRAMMY Museum®. The Foundation carries out its unique mission to inspire and educate by celebrating the Great American Songbook in numerous ways: • The Songbook Library & Archives houses documents, images and historic artifacts of songwriters Meredith Willson (The Music Man) and Harold Arlen (The Wizard of Oz) and artists like Natalie Cole, Andy Williams, and Sammy Davis, Jr. • The Songbook Exhibit Gallery – free and open to the public – is a multimedia educational center with rotating exhibits exploring history and popular culture through the lens of music. • The Songbook Academy® is a national summer music intensive that provides pre-professional training, world class mentorship and performance experience for aspiring high school singers. • Perfect Harmony is a music resource that provides care partners with generational music and activities to engage older adults through a shared music experience. • The Songbook Hall of Fame recognizes singers, songwriters and other artists who have made significant contributions to the Great American Songbook, with a new class inducted each year.
