Displaying His Glory
By Caroline Jordaan
Having an artist as a mother, I grew up with a paintbrush in my hand and used my legs and the walls as a canvas. I started oil painting in high school and immediately developed a love for it. I would spend hours developing my technique by sitting in the forest in Helderberg sketching nature around me, which deepened my love for both painting and creation. God speaks to me through nature, and as we look at creation around us, we see God’s hand everywhere we look. His constant care and provision for His birds, His gentle refreshing showers of rain on His fragrant, beautifully arrayed flowers, the striking colours with which he clothes the field (how much more shall He clothe and provide for you, His precious child?) His glory as the rays of the sun reflects on the surface of water and makes it sparkle. The bleak and naked winter tree patiently waiting for the coldest winter to fulfil its work that it might bring forth abundant life as spring appears. The delicate seed globe of the dandelion lifting its little head, ready to sacrificially give and give and give, holding nothing back, so that a new harvest may come. There are vast arrays of lessons in nature about God’s care for us, His character and His power. It is my prayer that God may speak to and touch people through my art, and be drawn closer to Him. That each artwork will bring a sense of awe, joy, peace and beauty into your home.

Out of all creation, what is most valuable to God? People are. And they too are my favourite subject to paint! With every portrait I carefully and prayerfully capture the character
of each person on canvas. Sometimes I also paint prophetically and a bit more spontaneously as the Holy Spirit leads. My artistic talent is a gift from God and should be used for His glory and the furtherance of His Kingdom. I live in Cape Town with my husband Matthew and serve Jesus as part of the leadership of a local Christian church. I do commissioned artworks of any size.
