SUMMER DINING AT THE NATIONAL CLUB

We invite you to join us for an exclusive sampling of The National Club’ s summer cuisine offerings, and a taste of life within the Toronto landmark.
Founded in 1874, The National Club is one of the oldest private clubs in Toronto and a designated heritage building, located in the heart of the city's financial district. Offering the highest level of amenities and services to members and their partners, club membership includes complimentary spousal arrangements with full access to the club’s finest food, wine and services – all of which make it an excellent venue for private events, business meetings and social functions. Over the last few years, we at The National Club have incorporated a beautiful Rooftop Terrace, renovated our over night accommodations, Billiards Room and Business Centre. We have also designed a contemporary new restaurant with amazing wine wall that is stocked with wines from our cellar, available exclusively to our membership. Not finished yet, we are about to embark on renovations to the popular east deck, or the Rooftop. The project will run from fall 2021 into the spring of 2022, and will feature an all-season metal and glass ceiling with retractable sides to open the space during warmer weather. As the club adapts to the challenges of the current pandemic, we have found that our members are very happy to be back, sharing their club with family and friends. Our rooftop patio, in particular, has become a safe haven for many during the summer season.
With the province now in step three of Ontario’s reopening guidelines, it allows us to offer our members more services for their personal and business needs, keeping in mind that we must continue to maintain COVID protocols to keep our community safe. Executive Chef, James Stewart, along with our Chef du Cuisine, Gunnar Baronia, offer a combination of light and seasonal fare that has been well received since the club’s re-opening. A popular choice on those hot summer evenings, our grilled Atlantic lobster mosaic is made with lemon and garlic scented Atlantic lobster, pickled watermelon, grilled pineapple, mango and avocado, tossed with an orange vinaigrette and lobster essence.
Another popular appetizer, the “Surf and Turf, ” pairs cured and braised pork jowl with pistachio encrusted, seared Digby scallop and applenapa cabbage choucroute, drizzled with a truffled honey glaze. Our evening entrées include Australian rack of lamb, which is slow roasted and set on a roasted corn polenta cake, port braised red cabbage, blistered cherry vine tomatoes, local cipollini onions and preserved lemon Baco noir demi-glace. Equally popular is the seared tare marinated black cod pave with gingered gai ian (Chinese broccoli), shimeji mushrooms, tempura nori, tonkatsu sauce and honey soy glaze. Not forgetting to mention our premium selection of steaks, grilled to perfection and offered in various sizes for appetites big or small. Chef Baronia is always open to off the menu suggestions, and is happy to accommodate the dietary restrictions and allergies of members and their guests. Making all our desserts in-house, our very own Master Pastry Chef, Calvin Wat, was selected as Captain of the Pastry Team that will be representing Canada in the 2022 Luxembourg Culinary World Cup and the 2024 Stuttgart IKA Culinary Olympics. One of his signature desserts is the strawberry shortcake. This modern interpretation is made with local strawberries and is served with white chocolate whipped ganache, genoise biscuit and homemade strawberry jam. Noted as one of the best wine cellars across Canada, our extensive cellar holds a wide variety of old and new world wine to compliment meals both hearty and lavish. With three sommeliers in house, we will be sure to find a wine that will match your tastes and style.
Might we suggest our very own privately labelled, La Chablisienne La Pierrelée Chablis 2018, from Burgundy, or Principe Corsini Birillo Costa Toscana 2017, from Tuscany? Both exceptional wines, the Birillo has received repeated praise from top wine critics, consistently scoring over 90 points! Rightfully world famous, Prince Corsini’s historic family estates in the Chianti and Maremma regions of Tuscany produce some of the finest wines and olive oils in all of Italy. As impressive as our cellars are, nothing spells luxury quite like Louis XIII – not only the rarest and most expensive cognac in the world, but first created in 1874 by the House of Rémy Martin, the same year our club was established. It only seems natural that our Head Sommelier, Brian Perry, would stock it in our 1874 Bar & Grill for our members to enjoy. Other rare, premium offerings available to members with the most discriminating palates include Burdeos Gran Patron Tequila, finished in Bordeaux wine barrels; and Dewar’s 21- and 27-year-old single malt scotch. Since the reopening of the club, our sold-out Beer & BBQ Evening and Rosé Dinner delighted members with sumptuous evenings on our Rooftop Patio. We are now planning a Sake & Sushi Event, BBQ Evening and three Cigar Events, along with a Fine Wine Dinner and Oyster Evening for the fall. The thirst for social gatherings and dining is apparent and keeping the team extremely busy. We are truly grateful to be back, taking care of our members in our magnificent Clubhouse. The last closure has taught us that our building, as beautiful as it is, is only alive when filled with members enjoying its hospitality, amenities and community.
