What we have done since the 2013 Flood • 247 projects underway through the Municipal Infrastructure Recovery Program - examples include: • Erosion sites reinforced to be more flood resilient. • Rebuilt pedestrian bridges designed to be flood resilient.

• Stormwater and sanitary infrastructure repaired and strengthened. • Pathways and recreational areas restored.

Understand • How river flooding happens • Rainfall in the watershed is the main cause of river flooding in Calgary. • Monitoring

• Current river flow rates • May expect more May-July precipitation due to El Nino.

Prepare What is The City doing to prepare for future floods: • Strengthening our understanding of the rivers: • River Morphology Study (fish habitat, gravel bars) • Groundwater Study • Barrier Study

• Restoring and reinforcing riverbanks , outfalls and bridges to make them more resilient to flooding. • 19 critical and high priority areas completed • Seven more projects to be completed from July 16 to Sept.15, 2015.

• Improving forecasting, monitoring, mapping and emergency response procedures. • Securing $14.9 million in funding for four projects through the Province’s Alberta Community Resilience Program. • • • •
