Nuts as a remedy against colon cancer
Some studies could show the nut consumption havein positive effects on the circular system. Researchers found out that consumption of nuts of all species, especially of peanuts and walnuts, was able to reduce the risk for cardiovascular diseases (Guasch-Ferré and colleagues, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2018). What about colon cancer? Is there any positive impact of nut consumption?
An international team of researchers has dealt with this topic. They tried to get a relationship between risk of death and the probable return of colon cancer symptoms after a surgery and a possible consumption of nuts. 826 persons subject to colon cancer which has spread out to adjacent lymph nods but not to far away body parts (phase III). All subjects were operated and had a chemotherapy. They filled in special questionnaires regarding their eating habits and were consulted within 6.5 years.

Analysis of data showed that consumption of nuts had positive effects on the progression of the disease. Patients who consumed at least 28 g two times per week, were less risk
charged than persons who did not eat any nuts, regarding the return of the illness as well as regarding the risk of death. Particular investigations show that the positive effect only applies to tree nuts, not to peanuts. The positive factors persisted even if other risk factors like smoking or alcohol abuse were taken into account. To sum up: patients with colon cancer phase II showed a positive impact of nut consumption. Those who ate tree nuts several times per week, showed a lower risk of death and a lower risk of returning of the illness after a surgery.
