Founded in 2004 by Remi Pearson, the International Coaching Institute is now delivering life coaching training in over 101 countries around the world.

I moved from Pakistan to Australia at the age of 18 and I arrived with $1000 and a lot of debt. I was going to university and working part time but being away from my family, I was experiencing life through that lens of feeling depressed and having a lot of anxiety. At the time it felt like the end of the world, being alone with expenses to pay and family to look after. It was a crumbling mountain of pressure.

I came to the point in 2015 where I wanted to take my own life. I went into this rat hole for six months, left the job, no university. I was calculating my decision of whether I should live or die, but there is obviously a part of us that is connected to this authenticity we have. It was thinking, 'This is going to hurt a lot of people' that pushed me to call a helpline for suicide.

That was my big moment.

I googled 'how to be Tony Robbins' and bam, The Coaching Institute showed up. It ticked all the boxes, was exactly what I wanted to do. The word coach was just a word— it was the meaning in the work that got me.

I got to start with purpose again.

It's felt really good and it's something that I didn't think was possible

The best I hoped for was to like myself. I've heard lots of success stories about coaching and the time that they're spending. I spent the next five years finding myself again, I was widowed, burying my trauma in whatever I could, all of the coping mechanisms I’d had in place weren’t working for me. anymore. I went downhill so fast and it got to a point where I knew I couldn’t keep going the way I was.

I had to be the strong one. I was the hero—that is my tribal cycle. I was too busy looking after both our families, I basically left myself to last and that was why after four years, five years, it finally turned to shit for me.

And that’s when I found ICI.

I told my husband, I said, ‘If I have to pay that much money to find myself again, that’s what I am going to do. I am worth more than the course fees’. He said, ‘okay, do it.’ I came for business but I came for myself as well. It was about my future but also my healing. Five years ago I wanted to end my life. Now I love my life so much.

I am a completely different person. I don’t even recognise me. I am a better version of me before Greg got sick. I went through a horrible experience and it still often can catch me off guard, but now I have the tools to be able to work with it and understand what’s going on for me. I have awareness around how I’m feeling and process my emotions instead of going, ‘Shit, what is going on here?’
