Legion care home breaks world record with human poppy Royal British Legion care home, Galanos House, has beaten a current Guinness World Record by creating the world’s largest human flower, forming the shape of the Legion poppy of course!

Sore eyes?? Do you suffer from dry, sore or tired eyes? If so, you are not alone. As many as 1 in 3 adults in the UK experience these symptoms, with uncomfortable and tired eyes being the most common complaint. Dry environments such as air conditioning and central heating can affect the eyes natural moisture levels, while harsh lighting may also contribute to discomfort. Long periods of concentration on a computer screen tend to reduce your rate of blinking and lead to dryness problems, particularly if you wear contact lenses. Air pollution can be a further cause of irritation. Some symptoms, such as tired eyes, maybe related to your eyesight. So it’s worth having your eyes tested to see whether new glasses will help. However, if you suffer from persistent dryness, you may benefit from special eye drops, moisture retaining lubricants or other treatments to relieve discomfort. If you regularly

experience dry, sore or tired eyes, call your optician for an appointment. They can examine your eyes and help you keep them in the most comfortable condition For further information on dry eyes, call Ellis Opticians on 0121 747 2115

Located in South Warwickshire, Galanos House has celebrated its 50th anniversary by inviting its residents, staff, volunteers, families and the local community to be part of history by creating a giant human poppy. Participants included local schools, Legion branches, the Women’s Institute, the Scouting movement and many others, came together at the Southam College to beat the current record of 2297 participants. The event was a huge success with the final total of participants 2609 – beating the record by 312! Guinness is in the process of verifying the record-breaking attempt to confirm the ‘official’ record. Jo-Anne Wilson, Care Home Manager, said: “We’ve had an incredible response to the 50th anniversary celebrations and we are absolutely thrilled to have set a new world record and mark a milestone year with a fantastic event, we look forward to Guinness World Records adjudicating our result,” Fifty years ago, in South Warwickshire, The Royal British Legion used a generous donation to lay the foundation of a retirement home for ex-servicemen and women. Today, this award-winning home still carries the name of its benefactor, Christos Galanos and cares for over 60 residents and has a specialist dementia care unit, Poppy Lodge, which opened in 2011 and cares for an additional 30 residents. Jo-Anne added: “We are very grateful for the support the local community has shown us over the past fifty years and look forward to the next fifty years! At Galanos we take pride in delivering outstanding excellence when it comes to care, and providing a happy, vibrant and close community within the home for each and every resident.” Galanos House is one of six Royal British Legion care homes that provide short and long-term care for serving and ex-Service people and their dependents. Situated around the country, they offer a wide range of services including four specialist dementia care units. To find out more information visit www.britishlegion.org.uk

Mayor Andy Street's trade mission Mayor Andy Street's initiative in setting up a trade mission from the West Midlands to Canada. The move will put the region first in Canadians' thoughts as they seek opportunities for investment partnerships and commercial collaboration. It shows Andy's commitment to expanding our trade horizons and putting the region on the global map. I have always said that Brexit will present challenges, but to meet them we must make the most of opportunities to forge business links with new partners outside the EU. Our historic links make Canada a perfect example and a great choice for the first mission. We are already among the world leaders in

Wellbeing in Coleshill As Wellbeing and Rosemarie was recommended to me I thought I would go and check it out and have a treatment.

I decided on having the new Dermisonic revolutionary skincare device used on my face (its a non surgical facelift) as I was thinking of having a facial. The device has 3 LED lights Red Light - anti ageing Blue light - anti bacteria Green Light - anti pigmentation I was shown into the lovely welcoming Rosemarie's treatment room which smelt aromatic, and with the calming background music I felt immediately relaxed after I was made comfortable. Rosemarie started by cleansing my face with dermalogica precleanse, she then applied a refining masque. While the masque was left on Rosemarie also gave me a complimentary reflexology on my feet, oh well by then I didn't think I could get more relaxed ( I almost wanted to just nod off ).

After removing the masque with some cleansing gel Rosemarie used the Red Light over my forehead cheeks nose and chin, this stimulates the fibroblaststhat produce collagen. Then I had a dermalogica multivitamin power recovery cream applied followed by the Green Light which improves cell and oxygen utilisation followed with some ultra calming mist ( good for calming skin redness ). To finish I had dermalogica super rich repair moisturiser applied followed by a fabulous tinted moisturiser which is from the award winning Jane Iredale products which is all mineral based products and is gentle on the skin. After my treatment I felt totally relaxed and refreshed. I had taken my friend Joanna Standley with me and she was so impressed and has since been back to have exactly what I had done and she has now also booked in to take her mom and sister and herself again.

Overall I must mention I don’t get much time to

HS2 Cost Will Double to £111bn, According to New DfT Estimate The projected bill for the HS2 high speed rail network has been estimated at £111bn, double the official £55.7bn figure being used by Government and HS2 Ltd. The estimate was commissioned by the Department for Transport and produced by Michael Byng, the man who rewrote the book on rail cost estimation, devising the standard method of costing which has been adopted by Network Rail following several high-profile failures to accurately cost their projects.

This revelation, published in The Sunday Times, comes ahead of a big week for HS2 Ltd in which they are expected to: appoint consultants to produce final designs for Phase 1 from London to Birmingham; deposit a bill in Parliament for the Phase 2a extension to Crewe; and publish the final route for Phase 2b to Manchester and Leeds. Using his “rail method of measurement” formulae to calculate the projected costs of HS2, Byng said that Phase 1 of would cost £48bn, with construction of the entire project coming in at £104bn. This estimate did not include the cost of the trains, which would add around another £7bn, putting the total bill for HS2 at £111bn, double the £55.7bn official estimate. Lord Berkeley, chairman of the Rail Freight Group, had originally asked Byng to use his

model to re-evaluate the costs of the section between Euston and Old Oak Common, which he put at £8.25bn. Byng told The Sunday Times: “HS2 has not questioned the figure, or my methodology, nor have they come up with any structured estimate of their own. A couple of days later I got a call from the DfT saying, look, if 6.6 miles is going to cost us £8.25bn, what chance have we got of getting to Birmingham? I said: I’ll work it out for you.” “Michael Hurn, the project sponsor at the DfT, is a very good guy and is very worried at the advice he’s been given [by HS2]. The big contractors are also worried. They’ve said when they submit a bid it’s nowhere near [as low as] the estimates that HS2 have got for the job.” It is anticipated that the contractors who will complete the final design of Phase 1 of HS2 will be appointed this week. This process of final design is expected to take up to 18 months, and will quite probably see another increase in cost, meaning construction of Phase 1 is currently two years behind schedule, even though HS2 Ltd have recently ‘rebranded’ enabling works as ‘construction’, so they can spin that construction has started on time. Also this week, it is expected that a hybrid bill will be deposited in parliament for Phase 2a of

Injury Prevention - spot the signs! By Dean Walsh Bsc DpodM MFPM RCPS(glasg)

Walsh Chiropody / Podiatry For runners, walkers and anyone involved in activity spotting the signs that could lead to injury could be very helpful.

To know when a pain is normal and when its not can mean the difference between continuing to do the activity or not. By spotting the signs I mean realising that something isn’t right with the way you function when walking or running. The way you all walk and run is determined by how your joints and muscles function together. Everyone is very slightly different in our build and structure, this means we function

slightly differently to each other. If you think of people as machines then some of us are very efficient machines built for the activity we are doing and others are less efficient with perhaps not the best build for the chosen activity. We have evolved of many years to walk upright, but our feet and legs have to compensate for the hard surfaces we all walk and run on today. This compensation can lead to injury. So how can knowing this help prevent injury? Recognising recurrent niggles or aches when they are only small issues but seem to happen in a pattern or regularly when you walk or run is the first step.

HS2, though whether it will include the promised but uncosted station at Crewe is unclear. On top of that, the final announcement of the Phase 2b route is expected to be announced on Monday. It is expected that the route will not change substantially from the revised route published last year, which removed the standalone Sheffield station. Stop HS2 Campaign Manager Joe Rukin responded: “The cost of HS2 has already doubled once since it was first proposed so it should come as no surprise to anyone that it might double again, but when it is the man who wrote the book on estimating rail projects saying this, Government should really listen. With it being so obvious to everyone who lives in the real world that there are so many far more important priorities for public spending, it seems utterly insane that the Government are still wedded to this vainglorious vanity project and all its’ false promises.” “With the final design for HS2 not due for another 18 months, it is already two years late and that redesign will almost certainly jack up the costs again. Since the start, the case for HS2 has been invented by the very cheerleaders who intend to rake in billions of taxpayers’ money which is desperately needed elsewhere, so it

"The budget for HS2 has always seemed more fantasy than reality"

The second step would be to get checked out, to have an assessment with a Podiatrist to check your body’s mechanics (a biomechanical assessment) and look for any functional issues occurring when you walk and run. They will watch you walk or run and assess your joints for range of movement. The Podiatrist will then be able to discuss if you require any treatment just to make you function that bit more efficient to help prevent injuries from occurring. Of course not every ache or pain needs investigating, but investigating anything that is recurrent and regularly happening after exercise may really reduce the chances of you suffering injury and preventing you doing your activity. If you would like to book in for a biomechanical assessment please give us a ring and book with Mr Dean Walsh – Podiatrist, at Walsh Chiropody/Podiatry, 329 Chester Road, Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, B36 0JG (Opposite Morrisons). 0121 749 6313 or book online at www.walshpodiatry.co.uk

really is time to ditch this gigantic white elephant, before it is too late.” Penny Gaines, chair of Stop HS2 added, "The budget for HS2 has always seemed more fantasy than reality. Up until now the Government has been getting away with it, because the bulk of the spending will come later. But as construction comes nearer, the real cost of HS2 will have to be paid. It’s time to cancel HS2 and use the money that will be saved on things that will benefit more people rather than a few fat cats. “More environmental destruction, more cost, but no new ideas - that's what HS2 Phase 2 b is. While it has been presented to help transport in the north, HS2 is mainly about making it easier to get to London, as there are no east west links involved. It will make no difference to journeys from Leeds to Manchester or Sheffield to Manchester. And with no links to HS1 in the plans, it will not help with journeys from the north to continental Europe. "With driverless cars being trialled in Milton Keynes and successful hyperloop testing elsewhere, it’s clear that high speed rail is just a faster variant of existing technology. Government ministers are calling for HS2 cheerleaders because there is no underlying support for it beyond a handful of rail enthusiasts and the contractors set to raid the public purse. But even supporters of HS2 only manage to drum up airy fairy 'benefits for mankind' as reasons to back it."

Senior appointments to drive automotive supplier growth Leading Automotive supplier Sertec has made two significant additions to its senior management team, bolstering the high level of expertise throughout the Company. Steve Dunn joins the Sertec Group Board as Engineering Production Director and Carol Henderson takes tenure as Senior Commercial Manager with immediate effect. Sertec’s dramatic growth in recent years has been evident throughout the industry, which in turn has benefited the Company by attracting experience and expertise to the fold. Joining from a major 1st Tier Body In White and Chassis manufacturer, Steve brings 37 years of Automotive experience in leadership, technical product development and process improvement. With the expansion of the business through both inward investment and acquisition, Sertec are delighted to have secured someone of Steve’s ability to lead the continued development of stamping processes and plant evolution. Group Managing Director Dave Steggles said “Having recently spent £16million in our new heavy stampings facility, we are very fortunate to have enlisted Steve, who brings with him the calibre and skills set essential to capitalising on our investment. Whilst he will concentrate on Heavy Stampings at our Coleshill factory, his experience in assessing and implementing new strategies and

processes will be of great benefit to the group as a whole, both within the UK and our European operations.” Carol Henderson joins Sertec from Covpress Assembly and brings with her 25 years of Automotive purchasing and new model experience. As Senior Commercial Manager, Carol will add further expertise to Sertec’s Body In White capability and will play an integral part in attracting new customers to the Group. “Carol has a wealth of engineering and commercial skills, which coupled with an extensive knowledge of the automotive industry, will add a new perspective to our commercial activities for a wider customer portfolio.” said Dave Steggles. These senior appointments demonstrate an investment in quality people, as well as plant and equipment across the Group. Since acquiring Wild Automotive twelve months ago, Sertec has shown commitment to each of the new factories with investment and senior management support. New factory layouts and plant additions have benefited the two Midlands sites, their site in Germany is basking in £1million worth of plant refurbishment and lighting upgrades and the Hungary operation is currently installing new presses and equipment to the value of £11 million over a two year period. Such investment is backed up with the current roll out of a new £1million strategic investment in OEM recognised ‘Industry 4’ manufacturing IT systems across the Group.

UK Central Detail Announced

By Adam Farrell

Over three years ago, I wrote an article for The Coleshill Post called ‘Meriden Garden City – We need a new vision for the future.’ It was based on the then draft proposal by Solihull Council to develop land around the new HS2 Station, the NEC and the Airport into a new housing development mixed with retail and office space.

Three years on and the proposals have been developed further, with concrete plans being put forward this month. The plans go much further than anyone imagined in 2013 when they were first announced. The project is predicted to last until the mid 2040’s and at that point, if things go as planned, the whole area will change, including North Warwickshire. If the plan is followed then they’ll be an expanded Birmingham Business Park (towards Coleshill), a vastly expanded airport (with the potential for some if not a lot of it to be in North Warwickshire), a new ‘Arden Cross’ development of retail, offices and housing starting at the edge of Stonebridge Island where the current Toby Carvery is as well as a new metro line going along the North Warwickshire boundary and into Birmingham Business Park. There are also proposals to combine the HS2 station with the airport terminal. In 2014, my article said “Rather than react with fear about this “new town”, we should seek more details so that we can assess its potential impact on Coleshill, good and bad. A new town a stone’s throw away with highly skilled and highly paid jobs may enable local people to live, work and spend locally. This column isn’t written in support of the new ‘Garden City’, it simply tries to raise important questions about the future of our town.”

Today, we have more detail and I don’t think it’s good for Coleshill or North Warwickshire. Not because a development of new transport links, highly paid jobs and new homes is a bad thing but because North Warwickshire has been dawdling along messing about with a local plan that seeks to destroy areas like Polesworth and Dordon without recognising the huge focus on the West Midlands conurbation, the growth corridors that exist and that are planned for the future. It’s almost like the Council has had its head in the sand for the last two years thinking this ‘Meriden Garden City’ or ‘UK Central’ as its now called, would just go away. The Borough and County Council’s delayed joining the new West Midlands Combined Authority, they missed out on the early talks, we’re not involved in the first devolution deal and despite being members of the organisation today, they still have no list of ‘asks’ for North Warwickshire. There’s no point being a member of the WMCA if we don’t get anything from it and we won’t get anything from it unless we ask! So this new development has the potential to harm North Warwickshire, particularly if the new runway goes ahead inside of our boundary, although this is thought to be decades away from happening (just look at how long it’s took for Heathrow to get the go ahead for its latest runway… 50 years) but it will be particularly

harmful if it happens on our doorstep and yet again we miss out on any of the benefits from it. We’re going to have a new metro line nearby but it will by-pass our Borough, we’re going to have a new settlement nearby but no homes from North Warwickshire’s ‘quota’ will be included, we’re going to have new companies, investment and jobs but our lack of engagement will mean we as a Council don’t have the key relationships and connections and our residents will therefore be behind the likes of Solihull, Birmingham and Coventry in the que. In fact, North Warwickshire appears just twice in the whole document that announces the plans, the same amount of times as Bristol! Coleshill is just a stone’s throw away from the proposed UK Central but isn’t mentioned once in the proposal document. We’re in danger of getting all the harm from this proposal but none of the benefits. We need to engage in the process or we’ll be left behind and forgotten about.

RHK Dreamers: What a great a service By Serena Smith It was my first time visiting RHK Dreamers indian restaurant on Coleshill High Street. I must say it felt very welcomed as we were being shown to our seat.

There was fresh flowers on every table and the restaurant has 70 covers at the moment. Ramiz the new owner came over and welcomed us. Our drink orders was taken and we declined the papadoms as we wanted to enjoy our starters and our main dishes without feeling to full. I order the Vegetable Stuffed Pepper which I have never had before as I tend to have the same wherever I go. I must say I thought it might be a bit bland after ordering but it was spicy and very tasty and I will definitely be ordering this again. My husband also had something different, he ordered the Special Lamb Sheek Kebab and he also said it was very tasty and enjoyable and will also have this again. For our mains I asked Ramiz to surprise me with a Chicken dish and my husband ordered Chicken Baingoni Bahar. We also ordered Garlic Nan and Vegetable Pilau Rice to share.

RESIDENTS

When our food came out I was told mine was Chicken Lohari Zaluti. Again we had both never tried the dishes we ordered before. We shared each others dishes I preferred mine out of the 2 but we must say they were both very enjoyable full of aromatic flavours and cooked to perfection. The Vegetable Rice was also tasty and I really did enjoy the Garlic Nan as it wasn’t stodgy or doughy like some you can get. We couldn’t fault the service either they were very attentive to our needs. A couple on the next table to us started to talk to us and I notice the Gentleman had a big piece of Steak and chips. When I asked how come he wasn’t eating a curry dish he said he enjoys the steak here and his wife wont go anywhere else locally for her curry nights, they told us they always eat here and that the standard of food has improved over the last couple of months and really enjoy there time here. Overall the service the ambience and especially the food made a really enjoyable evening and we will definitely be back. We have recommended this place to family and friends already who cant wait to try it.

Problems with reading?? If you’re aged over 40 and are starting to have difficulty with reading, then you are probably suffering from presbyopia. This condition is caused by the natural aging process of your eyes, which affects their ability to focus easily on close objects. The result is blurred vision or tired eyes, especially when reading in poor light.

Presbyopia affects nearly everyone by their mid 40’s, but fortunately there are effective solutions for this condition. For example, if you have needed vision correction before, you may now just require reading glasses for close up work. But if you already wear spectacles, then you have several choices. You may decide to have different glasses for distance and reading, although this can be inconvenient. Or you may choose a pair that

performs both functions, such as bifocals or varifocals (progressive) spectacles. Varifocals cost a bit more, but are increasingly popular because they enable you to focus at all distances and they don’t have any obvious dividing line across the lens like bifocals. Presbyopia may not be a problem even if you wear contact lenses. There are now progressive contact lenses available for presbyopia, while some people find they can see well with a distance vision contact lens in one eye and a reading lens in their other eye. Others successfully use reading glasses over their contact lenses for close up. The best option will depend on your optical prescription and lifestyle. Your optician will discuss these with you when advising on the most suitable lenses for presbyopia. For further information on presbyopia, call Ellis Opticians on 0121 747 2115

Let as much light as you can into your home now – you will see the benefit immediately & it will last way into Autumn & Winter Mirrors reflect light & create the illusion of space in even the smallest of rooms. Buy them as large as you can afford & consider using sheet mirror in corners & alcoves to create interest. Glass furniture allows light rays to shine through, creating patterns on walls & floors. Many companies offer both glass and persex furniture but why not Keep it Local and have a look at Glass Domain, based in Birmingham. They offer stunning glass tables such as the Crack Light up coffee table with cracked mirrored exterior and coloured transparent interior. This combination of materials creates a fanatic interplay between colour and light. The coffee table can be illuminated to varying intensities with its internal dimmer lighting system. When illuminated the light cascades through the coloured glass seams that run between the shards of mirror casting tinted light across your room.

The table is available in coloured glass (pink, yellow and clear) with other colours available to special order Glass Domain also offer The XXX glass coffee table which has been created using special transparent, pink, orange and yellow coloured glass. Formed from 6+6mm laminated glass, the base is joined together using intricate edge polishing techniques which are cleverly brought together in the center. This piece makes a real statement! BHF Launches Bag It Beat It Campaign To Encourage 1 Million Bags Target & RaiseImportance of Women & Heart Disease This September, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is raising awareness of Women and Heart Disease and I want to encourage your readers to help fund life saving heart research by taking part in our Bag It. Beat It. campaign throughout the month.

It’s a sad reality that cardiovascular disease (CVD) causes the deaths of over 6,000 women in East Midlands alone each year and there are also around 3.5 million women living with cardiovascular disease across the UK. As the nation’s heart charity, the BHF is determined to fund as much vital research as possible into every aspect of CVD, including causes, better drugs and improved surgical techniques to improve the prospects for anyone affected by CVD in the UK. It is only with the continued support of people in East Midlands that we will be able to fund this pioneering research.

Having a clear out and donating any unwanted items to your local BHF shop as part of Bag It. Beat It. this September is a really simple way everyone can get involved and help in the fight for every heartbeat. Every single item donated to your local BHF shop, whether it is clothing shoes, books or records will help continue the fight against coronary heart disease, the UKs single biggest killer. To help make donating completely hassle-free, we even offer a free home collection service which can be booked either through your local shop or by calling our free phone line on 0800 915 3000. I really hope readers are able to support us this September and help to Bag It. Beat It. for women affected by heart disease. To find your local shop, order free donation bags or find out more about what can be donated please visit bagit.bhf.org.uk

Wide open Despite the fact that it can be a financial life-saver, only half of all mortgage holders have life cover, leaving millions exposed. As a nation, we still gravitate towards the dream of owning our own home. The number of television programmes and column inches devoted to the subject are testament to our continuing obsession. Yet our desire for bricks and mortar is not in step with our appetite for life cover, even though it could help our families keep

Buying a home is likely to be the biggest financial commitment we will ever make, so covering the mortgage debt should arguably go hand in hand with picking up the keys. But a report by Scottish Widows shows that 8.2 million people are leaving their families financially exposed by failing to have any cover in place.1 “None of us want to think about the worst, but our findings show that there are an alarming number of mortgage holders who are putting themselves at significant risk by failing to arrange cover for the unexpected,” says Johnny Timpson, protection specialist at Scottish Widows. “Many people believe that they’ll be able to rely

their heads above water if our lives were

on the state if the unforeseen happens, but recent cuts to welfare

unexpectedly turned upside down.

benefits are exacerbating their vulnerability.” The financial protection gap is even more worrying when you consider that millions of families rely on a sole breadwinner to keep their finances afloat. This problem is most acute for the selfemployed, whose families are disproportionately reliant on their income. Two thirds of self-employed workers’ households are reliant on one wage earner’s income, compared with 52% of the average population.2 However, it should be remembered that the loss of a stay-at-home parent can also be economically devastating. Couples should always take into account the value of any unpaid domestic work and other duties that would otherwise carry a cost, when arranging financial protection.

Extra cover While life insurance will pay out if you die, other forms of insurance can provide an income or lump sum if you can’t work due to illness or injury. According to Macmillan Cancer Support, four in five people with cancer are, on average, £570 a month worse off as a result of their diagnosis.3 Yet only a fifth of the UK’s mortgage holders have a critical illness policy, leaving many millions at risk of financial hardship if they were to become seriously ill.4 “Many [of those diagnosed with cancer] find themselves in serious financial difficulty and are forced to rely on improvised financial solutions, such as selling assets or borrowing from family members,” says Lynda Thomas, chief executive at Macmillan Cancer Support. “However, when people get the right help and support at the right time, they have a much better chance of coping with the financial impact of cancer.” The options for insuring against unforeseen events are vast, so if you’re unsure about which policy is right for you, it’s a good idea to get some financial advice. With the help of a specialist, you will be able to explore your options, determine how much protection you can afford, and find the best deals to meet your needs. Adapting to life after the loss of a loved one, or diagnosis of a serious illness, can be one of the heaviest emotional burdens our families can face. But by making the right choices while we are alive, we can help ensure that it doesn’t become a financial hardship as well.

A suitable joint-life policy, or separate single-life policy taken out by the stay-at-home spouse, could ensure that the death of a stay-athome spouse does not lead to major new childcare or housekeeping costs.

Blondie may be a slightly older girl but still acts like a younger dog with lots of energy.

Gloria came into us heavily pregnant, but now all her pups have been rehomed she is looking for a forever home herself.

Zak is a little timid of dogs, he will walk with calm dogs but cant tolerate lively dogs.

This beautiful girl knows her basic commands, walks well on the lead but would benefit from further training.

This sweet girl has a massive personality! She loves cuddles and her walks.

This stunning lad is not sure about his basic commands, so would recommend training classes.

We feel Blondie would suit an active family where she can go on lots of walks and adventures.

Gloria walks well on the lead but could do with some basic training in the future.

We feel he would be best as the only dog and to live with older children due to him be timid at first.

When out in the paddocks Blondie enjoys it that much and does not what to go back on the lead, so will need work on recall.

We do feel Gloria would suit a family with no children as she can get very excitable.

Please call our Birmingham Centre,if you can offer Zak a forever home.

The business currently in its 3rd and 4th generation of ownership, identified the need for a new modern independent funeral director to serve the Birmingham and Solihull areas. The funeral home opened in 2013, we undertook a re development and decoration of the building to a very modern and tasteful design. Many of the long established funeral homes in the local area have been sold to much larger corporations over the past 15 years and have no family members left involved in the business. Stephanie Mason is owned by The CO-OP, and W.H. Painter owned by Funeral Partners. These are both large nationwide companies. We are the only family owned funeral director in the area now. With our family ownership we feel in a position to give a much more caring service when called upon compared to large corporate companies. The Hickton family are able to draw on their 108 years of experience within the funeral profession and provide a very caring and dedicated service at time of need before or after a death has sadly happened.

Goodwin Boxing announce their association alongside Hayemaker Ringstar Promotions Wed 6th September 2017

Goodwin Boxing are proud to announce their association alongside Hayemaker Ringstar Promotions. Starting with the October 20th show from the O2 Indigo in London, headlined by Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce taking on former British title challenger Ian Lewison in a 10 round bout, it is a chance to further cement Goodwin Boxing among the top tier of British boxing promoters. The show, run by Hayemaker Ringstar Promotions in association with Goodwin Boxing, will be broadcast live on the free-toair channel Dave, where David Haye has previously gained a significant audience share twice during his return in 2016. Having played a key part in providing the undercards for those events, a mutual respect was gained between the Hayemaker Ringstar team

and Goodwin Boxing that has led to the opportunity to take a more active involvement in the running of the October 20th show headlined by the debut of Joe Joyce. "We are over the moon to have formed this association" said Head of Goodwin Boxing, Steve Goodwin. "We've seen how Hayemaker and Ringstar have provided this platform for their fighters and were keen to be a part of it. It's an honour to work alongside David Haye and Richard Schaeffer to provide what we can definitively say will be a huge night for British boxing as they return the big nights to domestic audiences up and down the country on terrestrial TV" Steve went on to discuss the benefits that this partnership will bring for his own stable of fighters. "It's fantastic to be able to associate my boxers with the calibre of an Olympian like Joe Joyce. It gives those in my own stable a chance to showcase their fantastic abilities to a wider audience not just inside the O2 Indigo

on the night, but potentially to millions of fans at home watching. It is a sign of just how far we have come that we are able to provide such an opportunity while also playing a key part in the running of what will be a great show." The main event sees Joyce make his professional debut against a man in Ian Lewison who provides a stern test, one that very few Olympians would be willing to take on their first outing. A fantastic undercard will see John O'Donnell defend his English welterweight title against Tamuka Mucha in a fight that is also a final eliminator for the British title. Other fighters from Goodwin Boxing to feature on the show include Jordan Dennis, Tom Ansell, Nick Parpa, Duane Sinclair, Adi Burden and Luke Robinson. Tickest for the show can be purchased from the boxers directly or from the AXS website (www.axs.com).

Butler: Hall’s career ends in Liverpool

Yafai defends WBA belt against Ishida in Cardiff

llesmere Port man vows to stop rival’s title dreams on September 30

Birmingham ace meets unbeaten Japanese mandatory on October 28 Kal Yafai will defend his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against unbeaten mandatory challenger Sho Ishida at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Paul Butler has vowed to end Stuart Hall’s career and take a huge step to becoming a two-time World champion when the pair meet in a WBA World Bantamweight title eliminator at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday September 30, live on Sky Sports. Butler took the IBF crown from Hall in June 2014 in Newcastle and their rematch gives the pair the chance to get into pole position to land a World title again – with a route to the WBA belt that's in the hands of Jamie McDonnell, who is set for his own rematch with Liborio Solis. The Ellesmere Port ace believes he’s got under Hall’s skin already having baited his social media last week, telling the Darlington man to “enjoy your last month training as a professional boxer,” with Hall blocking his rival on Twitter last night – and Butler says he’ll end their rivalry in emphatic fashion on Merseyside. “I’ll be putting it to bed and ending his career on September 30,” said Butler. “It was a great fight last time and I believe I can win in better fashion. It’s a fight I’m buzzing for. “It was man vs boy last time and I pinched it off him, now it’s man vs man this time – I’m a fully-fledged Bantamweight now. “I don’t believe he’s gone anywhere since the first fight and I’m learning every day under Joe, I’ve come on leaps and bounds. “This is my first fight with Eddie Hearn and he’s come up with the goods. The winner will be in a great position to fight either McDonnell or Solis.

“There’s light at the tunnel, it’s down to me now. Stuart Hall is in the way, I believe I’ll deal with him and then we’ll move onwards and upwards.” A stacked bill in support of the main event sees Liverpool's Rocky Fielding defend his British Super-Middleweight title for the first time against Scotsman David Brophy, who puts up the Commonwealth strap he won in fine fashion in Australia in March. Controversial Hackney man Ohara Davies looks to get back to winning ways as he challenges Tom Farrell for the unbeaten local favourite’s WBA International SuperLightweight belt. Birkenhead’s Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd defends his Commonwealth and WBC International Lightweight titles against former Team GB captain and Liverpudlian Tom Stalker. Two more Team GB Olympians Anthony Fowler and Natasha Jonas fight on home turf for the first time in their second fights in the paid ranks, and there’s also action for Craig Glover. Tickets are on general sale at www.echoarena. com and on 0844 8000 400 – with priced £40, £60 and £100. VIP tickets priced at £200 are exclusively available at www.matchroomboxing.com Face value tickets for September 30 are also be available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/ matchroom-boxing-tickets/. StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.

Yafai puts his strap on the line for the second time having successfully seen off tough Japanese challenger Suguru Muranaka in Birmingham in May and it’s another test from the land of the rising sun that Yafai faces in Wales. Ishida brings a 24-0 record into his first World title fight, and the 26 year old will ask new questions of the champion standing four inches taller than Yafai at 5ft 8in. The former GB star has no doubts that he will keep the title he won against Luis Concepcion in December in style, and is ready to dazzle on the big stage. “It should be a great fight,” said Yafai. “We’re both undefeated and it looks an interesting one but it’s a fight I’m 100 per cent fully expecting to win and win in style. “We started camp about four weeks ago but I’ve been ticking over before that. We’ve been building up slowly but now we’re stepping up the intensity. “I’ve found some good videos of him and I’ve watched a couple of his fights already but over the next eight weeks, I’ll be studying them in more detail with my team. “He looks pretty tall. I think that’s his biggest attribute going for him. He’s busy with his jab and he seems comfortable on the back foot. We’ll see on October 28 if he does anything else but if he plans on using just his height and jab it won’t be enough to beat someone like me. “It will be the biggest crowd he’s boxed in front of, outside of Japan for the first time and in his first twelve rounder as well. But travelling away effects fighters in different ways. Just look at my last opponent, it was his first time outside of Japan and he loved it. He didn’t stop smiling.

“The win over Muranaka was good at times. There were things in the fight I didn’t do too well, which we’ve been working on. But that aside, we got the rounds in at a very high pace. The guy was tough, he took everything and fired back himself.” The Super-Flyweight division takes centrestage on Saturday night in California when Srisaket Sor Rungvisai meets Roman Gonzalez in a rematch for the WBA title and Naoya Inoue defends the WBO crown against Antonio Neves plus a WBC eliminator between Carlos Cuadras and Juan Estrada – and Yafai will be glued to Sky Sports in the early hours of Sunday morning to watch the men – and titles – he wants to grab with both hands next year. “I’m looking to box off my mandatory and then get in that mix,” said Yafai. “If we can bring one of those guys over to the U.K it would be great. I’m sure they see how boxing is booming over here. It’s a thriving division. “I’ve got Gonzalez winning on points. I thought he nicked the first fight by a round or two, but I think it’ll be quite convincing this time. “Inoue will win inside six rounds against Nieves. I don’t think that’s much of a test for him in all honesty. The Estrada vs. Cuadras fight is very interesting, I think Estrada might just edge that.” “This is a great fight and the toughest of Kal's career to date,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Ishida is highly rated and looking to follow his countryman Inoue to the World title. It's an incredible time for the division and these little men are becoming real stars of the sport – a win in Cardiff for Kal and its unification time in 2018.” Yafai’s clash with Ishida is the first fight to be added to the undercard of Heavyweight king Anthony Joshua MBE’s World title defence against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. An announcement on ticket prices and on-sale dates will be made soon.
