91 residents to benefit from cafe bar, private dining room, cinema, beauty salon, computer room and a roof garden if planning gets the go ahead for new care home development News Ln Local www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk
By Mike Walpole Writer
BOROUGH council planners are considering an application for a state-of-the-art 91 bedroom care home on the site of the old Coleshill police station. The application is from the Restful
Homes Group, which has been operating care homes in the Midlands for over 25 years. They are currently building new homes in Wylde Green, Leamington Spa and Evesham. RHG says all areas have been designed to promote dignified living standards for the frail, elderly and those suffering with dementia. It will have a cafe bar, private dining room, cinema, beauty salon, computer room and a second floor roof garden at the rear of the property which will overlook the sports fields and back towards Coleshill.
There will also be car parking for 44 vehicles, including 2 disabled spaces, and eight covered cycle parking spaces, and communal garden areas and landscaping. The building has been designed to reflect the topography of the site and make the most of the significant changes in levels. A RHG spokesman told the Post: “Our philosophy is simple - to provide the highest quality of care in the best environments. The bedrooms at our homes, including the proposed home, are far more spacious than those be-
ing built in the care industry allowing our residents to truly personalise their rooms and to feel at home. “ RHG says the development will create 70 full-time and 20 part time jobs on the site, contribute to the social needs of Coleshill through new accommodation for people in need of care, and be of high quality design that adds to the character of the town and its setting. The documentation supporting the application says the proposed new use will result in a significant reduction in traffic movements compared
to the previous use, and give opportunities to incorporate biodiversity and enhance the natural environment though vegetation and tree planting. A sensory garden with raised beds, pergolas and semi-mature trees will be planted to provide shaded areas. All areas will have full wheelchair access. Details are on the planning pages of the North Warwickshire Borough Council website. Planning reference is PAP/2016/0249.

Charity Ch Local www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk A Coleshill-based business is donating £300 to a charity that helped their colleague in his hour of need.
In September 2015 David Williams’ new-born daughter Aoife needed urgent medical attention having suffered very acute Meconium Aspiration Syndrome – a condition where waste was ingested into her lungs while still in the womb. When Aoife was transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for specialist treatment, The Sick Children’s Trust charity stepped in to help both parents. David and his wife were provided with a bedroom and shared lounge and kitchen in the charity’s 'Chestnut House' accommodation for ten days, which allowed them to be just feet away from their daughter throughout her treatment. Aoife has now made a complete recovery, and her father is now in the middle of organising a bike ride to raise vital funds for The Sick Children’s Trust. The Sick Children’s Trust provides free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK. David, who is corporate development
manager at Diamond Facilities Support (DFS), said: “The accommodation gave me and my wife immense relief and enabled us to spend as much time as possible with Aoife, and be on hand when there was a chance it might be the only time we’d get to spend with her. “It costs The Sick Children’s Trust £28 to provide accommodation every night and they rely entirely on voluntary income, so as my way of saying thank you and giving something back, I’m aiming to raise £7,500 from our charity bike ride in June.” The 580 kilometre bike ride is called 24 hours 2 Le Mans, and is challenging cyclists to ride from The Royal London Hospital, East London to the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans in just one day. All donations made to each rider taking part will go towards helping The Sick Children’s Trust provide accommodation to families with seriously ill children. Adam Atkins, managing director at DFS, added: “All of us were touched to hear about how David and his family were helped during a difficult period, so we were more than happy to make a donation to what is a great cause.” To make a donation and get behind the charity bike ride, visit www.justgiving. com/24h2lm

Coleshill WI May Meeting By Sally Jones Journalist
WE stood in memory of our longstanding member Nora Johns who has just died at the age of 101 and had been our Treasurer for many years, before moving to Shustoke. We thanked our members for all their help during the Queen's Birthday celebrations on the Croft where we provided cakes and hot drinks to the huge crowds who had come to watch the lighting of the beacon. Members discussed the two resolutions which will be debated during the National AGM at Brighton The first of these is to urge the government and NHS to provide facilities to enable the regular carers of Alzheimer's disease and dementia sufferers to stay with them when they have been admitted to hospital..The second one calls on supermarkets to sign up to a voluntary agreement to avoid food waste, though passing surplus food to charities We voted in favour of both mo-
tions but gave our delegate the discretion to vote the other way if she heard a good reason for doing so. Alison Wilks showed us the "Twiddle Muffs" she had knitted to help occupy the restless hands of dementia patients. The muffs consisted of a sleeve of thick, soft wool in a variety of bright colours, with many little attachments of buttons and bows which provide sufferers with visual and tactile stimulation. During Social Time, Jane Hewitt interviewed various members about their lives, among them Margot Hawkins who revealed that she had travelled extensively including in Japan, where she experienced two earthquakes while looking after her two young grandsons. The boys recognised the signs of an impending tremor from a slight quiver on the surface of a glass of water and warned her to shelter under the table. All escaped unscathed. Jean Tracey, now in her late 90s, was working in France just before World War 2 broke out and reluctantly had to leave her job and return to England. Elaine Partridge revealed her pas-
sion for golf while Margot Hawkins recalled her days as a nurse at St Bart's. Joy Hancock won the competition for a limerick starting: "There once was a lady so shrill.." after members voted by putting a coin beside their favourite. Hers read: "There once was a lady so shrill, Her voice could be heard up the hill. When eating in town, Her friends wore a frown And left her to pick up the bill." We asked members for suggestions for our 2017 WI programme and have already arranged a comic magician, a Balloon Debate with local youngsters and a talk on the Tame Valley Wetland. Among the proposed activities are a hands-on pottery evening, a talk on Coventry Cathedral and for our final meeting of the year, a party and home-grown pantomime. Our next meeting is on June 14th at 7.30 in the Town Hall when Lisa will lead the members in Gentle Yoga. The competition is for a flower photograph. Visitors welcome as always.

News Ln Local www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk AN appeal submitted by developers to turn the former Daw Mill Colliery site into a distribution park have been condemned by local Labour Councillors. Now owners of the site, Rotherham based Harworth are pressing ahead with an appeal, hoping to turn the site into a business park. Labour Group Leader, Cllr Adam Farrell said "We have always been clear as a Labour Group, we oppose the plans to develop Daw Mill and the land should be restored to green belt. Harworth Estates, who own the land, have shown a complete disregard for the views, needs and everyday lives of local people. They are putting profit before the people of North Warwickshire. The plans to develop Daw Mill are wrong for a number of reasons. Not least because there is a condition of restoration from the 1990's. The plans would cause untold disruption and pressure
for our local communities and the infrastructure that servers them. Labour in North Warwickshire remains committed to opposing development at Daw Mill. We recognise that there is cross party opposition and we'll do everything we can as a group to help stop this development taking place, working with anyone and everyone that helps the cause - getting Daw Mill green!" Residents can object to the appeal direct to the Planning Inspectorate: If you wish to make any comments, you must do so in writing no later than 21 June 2016. You may make comments via the Online Appeal Service atwww.planningportal.gov.uk/ appealhttp://www.planningportal.gov.uk/appeal using the appeal reference number: APP/ R3705/W/16/3149827. Alternatively, you may write directly to Helen Skinner at 'The Planning Inspectorate, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN' quoting the above appeal reference number and providing 3 copies of your representation.

How do you fancy taking the caravan out for a spin, dear? I thought India might do nicely! & District U3A U3 Coleshill www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk ED SHORE, world circumnavigator, gave us a fascinating slideshow recording the caravan trip to India he undertook with his wife. In 1993, he hitched up his caravan to a Ford Granada, pointed them in the direction of the subcontinent, and set off from Hagley. He didn’t dwell too long on Europe, in what may be understood as ‘familiar
ON Saturday 14th, May a very successful Coffee morning and sale was organised at Water Orton Link by the group “Women Alive” to raise funds which were divided equally between GREENFINGERS – a charity creating gardens at Hospices for Children and the other for those adults and young people suffering from GUILLAN-BARRE SYNDROME. The latter is a rare and serious condition of the peripheral nervous system. The total raised was £510 from a Plant Sale, good Bric a Brac stall and many books. “Women Alive” is organised by a Committee of Church members led by Joy Newman and is for all women in the village. The Group meets on the first Thursday of the month in the Robert Lloyd room of Water Orton Parish Church commencing at 7.30 p.m. and has a varied programme some of which becomes hilarious and other sessions more serious. Regardless of the challenges - and there were many - Ed and his wife overcame them. Most of us would worry about a puncture. What would we do if faced with a breakdown in the middle of nowhere and no spare parts were available for the car, if the caravan wheels buckled, if its chas-
sis crumbled? What if we found ourselves unable to find a road, which actually didn’t exist? Ed and his wife battled on, with the help and kindness of the local people he met. After that, navigating India seemed like a doddle, though the chaotic Indian roads came as a shock! In 2016, Coleshill U3A has assembled a programme not to be missed. Why not join us? Town & Borough Councillor Coleshill North
REGULAR COLUMN
As a Councillor a key part of my role is fighting for the best deal for local residents and businesses across our borough.
It’s because of this, that I strongly believe we should vote to remain in Europe on June 23. North Warwickshire is better off in Europe. It brings us jobs, growth and investment, protects workers and consumers and helps keep us safe. Thousands of jobs in North Warwickshire come from us being in the EU. If we were to leave, could we guarantee those jobs would be secure? The simple answer is no. Being in the EU keeps people in work and puts money in people’s pockets. With the chorus of noise from the Leave campaign, the one subject they’re all suspiciously quiet about is what leaving would mean for jobs and investment in areas like North Warwickshire. With local businesses, the CBI and the TUC all highlighting the dangers of leaving, it’s becoming less credible day by day for the Leave campaign not to answer this fundamental question. The West Midlands region benefits massively from being part of the largest single market in the world. So much so that 42% of the value of all goods exported by local companies go to the EU. That’s billions of pounds every year,
Charity Ch Local www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk

protected more than ever thanks to EU protections and being in Europe helps keep costs down on everything from passenger airfares to mobile phone roaming charges. The EU is driving forward real progress on tackling climate change, as well as raising the environmental standards of Britain’s beaches, and improving air quality. Most importantly, being in Europe protects the rights of workers. Your right to paid holiday, maternity leave, paternity leave, breaks after so many hours worked as well as many other employment rights, are enshrined in EU law. Some will say, don’t be silly; we’d still keep those rights if we left the EU. The reality is that they are at risk. Don’t forget it was this current Tory Government that just a few months ago tried to attack working people through its Trade Union Bill. Nothing is guaranteed if we leave the European Union. Finally I want to mention immigration. This is not a referendum on immigration but I know many people share real concerns about immigration in Britain. The simple fact is that if we want to be part of the worlds largest single market, where businesses can export without tariffs, where the goods we buy are not inflated by an import tax and where we can live, work and travel to other European countries

Sukhy Nijjar is the owner of Sipsey Lingerie which opened it doors on June 5th 2015. Prior to the opening if her business, she spent the last 10 years working in Investment Banking in London, althought grateful for the experince and all that she learnt, finance was not her true passion.
“I could not be more grateful for the whole experience. It has led me where I am today, doing what I enjoy most.” After the sudden loss of her father, Sukhy revaluated her life, and had enough of the rat race. Food and fashion were her main passions. After considering opening a restaurant at first, she followed her heart and decided on a lingerie boutique. “I like people, and I truly believe in the longevity of relationship building. Everyone in my boutique is treated with respect, and we are trying to go that extra mile. Customer service is crucial, but unfortunately it is dying in this country. This is my way to give back to women, empower them through lingerie.“ You sell a stunning selection of brands but also items, so not just lingerie but beautiful kaftans and swimwear. How do you decide which brands to work with? Everything in the store is personally chosen by me and each piece is there for a reason. I must truly love a piece to be able to sell it. All the brands you can find in Sipsey Lingerie are good fitting brands, tried and tested by me or my team, and you would be able to find something for every taste – from comfortable everyday lingerie to boudoir pieces for special occasions, and we also do first teen bras, maternity/nursing and mastectomy. Among our best selling makes are Chantelle, Simone Perele and Le Mystere, as well as the designer brands Stella McCartney Lingerie, Loveday London and Fleur of England. Not only do we do Lingerie but we also stock lounge and nightwear,
shapewear which we advise you on, hosiery, swimwear and later this year we will launch sportwear. Again each brand for each department has been carefully selected. With regards to our Swimwear we have recently launched this collection, which boasts Melissa Odabash, Paolita and Watercult. Those brands are extremely popular among the celebrities and I am very proud to have secured them for the West Midlands. I have noticed in recent years the growing interest in designer beachwear. During my banking years, Ibiza was a common holiday destination in the summer, and I have, myself, experienced the desire to look different and trendy at the beach, where you can’t accessorize too much. This is what I love most about our swimwear collection – the details and fit make it perfect for pool parties, yacht cruises and family holidays. For the ladies, who want a little confidence boost, we even stock MiracleSuit swimwear, which helps you lose a dress size instantly.”” Underwear is one of the most important layers we can wear isn’t it? [though you could draw out that it shapes how we feel as a person, how our clothes look it gives confidence but also can complete an outfit compared to ill-fitting garments] We believe that even if you are in jeans and t-shirt, a beautiful set of lingerie can make you feel more special. And even a couture dress can look wrong, if you are wearing the wrong lingerie. Wearing the right size and style is extremely important. This would help you enhance the best features of your body, and even hide little imperfections. The right bra would lift and shape, instead of squeeze or flatten your chest. Also, the right support would slower the sagging process all women dread, help keep the breast ligaments firm and keep the tissue elasticity. This is why we urge mothers to take their daughters to be fitted and measured as soon as they start to develop. The
first fitting experience is important to overcome the awkward and uncomfortable feeling most girls have. Your shop caters for every woman doesn’t it - to include mastectomy pieces? The boutique transforms lingerie shopping in a special experience, through the personalized bra fittings, innovative parties, and professional advice. The staff at Sipsey Lingerie are specially trained and have vast experience within the lingerie industry. We have a wide selection – from nursing to mastectomy, from teen to boudoir. We work closely with Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, and we want to become a centre of excellence for a specialized mastectomy brand this year. We realise the traumatic experience women go through when fighting this disease, and we try to create comforting atmosphere at the boutique. What advice would you offer to male readers who maybe considering buying lingerie for their partner? Our main advice to all gentlemen would be to pay a little more attention to what your partner likes. Ladies usually have a very specific lingerie taste, and buying a thong when she actually only wears fuller briefs would not come through as a thoughtful gift. Think of what she would actually feel special in, not what you would like to see her in. We always suggest that you take a peek in her lingerie drawer to check her size, and think what kind of woman she is. Our team is always there to narrow down the choices, and help you pick the perfect set. You have an online shop, but how important is it to try underwear on? Everything you can find in the boutique is also on our website. Buying nightwear and loungewear online is much easier than lingerie shopping. Although you might be measured and be sure in your size, the cup and band can differ. We have noticed some brands are tighter or come smaller compared to others, and as surprising as it may sound, even different colours can fit differently, as black for instance is usually tighter. Are there any new labels you are excited by? We just returned from SALON INTERNATIONAL DE LA LINGERIE in Paris, and we have many surprises for our clients. We are always on the look for new brands that we can introduce to the West Midlands.

Holocaust survivor visits The Coleshill School
Ed Education www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk YEAR 9 Students participated in a Super Learning Day all about the Holocaust. Students were involved in a carousel of learning activities about the increased persecution of the Jews, the Ghetto’s and the Final Solution. Mindu Hornick, a Holocaust Survivor, came into school to speak to students about her experiences as a 12 year old child during the Holocaust in Auschwitz concentration camp. Mindu, now 86, survived along with her
older sister Eva. Mindu told students “We arrived at the camp in a cattle carriage, there were 70 of us, all women, mothers and children.” A Year 9 student commented: “It was extremely inspirational to everyone in the talk and it highlighted the fact that we have a lot to be grateful for. This experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel privileged to be a part of this experience. Mindu’s story was touching and I am really appreciative of the fact that she has taken her time to talk to us and answer our questions today.”
Another student said: “I believe that hearing Mindu’s story was very beneficial as not only did it allow me to understand what happened on a more sympathetic level, it also opened my eyes to how awful it must have been. Seeing Mindu retell her story and relive it showed me how it must have impacted on her.” Mr Smith-Childs, Headteacher, said “This has been a wonderful learning experience for the students, especially listening to Mindu and her incredible story.”
The value of remaining in the classroom as Headteacher
By Ian Smith-Childs Headteacher
As a head teacher I really value the 'teacher' part of my role. It is such a privilege to be in a classroom with students helping them to learn. In January I gave a talk about 'the magic of teaching' to ATLP teachers. It is this magic that fires me up to make sure that our students have the very best teachers that we can find and to ensure that these teachers are trained and developed to deliver outstanding education. Staying in the classroom, all be it for a small amount of lessons,
means I can keep in touch with not only the students but teachers too. This year I have taught Year 7 history in order to experience our new life beyond levels assessment system first hand. I have found this to be an invaluable experience as it has made me think about the importance of assessment and feedback as well as meaning I have an understanding of the benefits of our new system. Next year I will be teaching A Level Drama and can't wait to meet the new Year 12 students and begin their learning journey with them. Teaching is the best profession in the world and I for one don't want to give it up!

A school where your child can have an excellent education from 11-19
A school where every child can achieve their dreams Our motto of ‘Learning and Achieving Together’ reflects everything we do. We are a welcoming school with high expectations of all members of our school community. We believe that every child can achieve beyond their potential and look to nurture their talents and abilities within a culture of success. Your child will be joining a school where teaching is inspiring and care, guidance and support are exceptionally strong. We have achieved our best EVER GCSE results in 2015. 61% of our students achieved the gold standard of 5A*-C including English and maths. Achievement in all three of the core subjects is rapidly improving and above national averages, giving our students the best chance to go on and be successful in the next stage of their education.
The Sixth Form at The Coleshill School offers a bespoke suite of qualifications for the students it serves. We have small class sizes and expert teaching, providing an exceptional level education. We achieved our best results at A Level in 2015 and these are set to increase further in 2016. As the school grows so will the Sixth Form and your child will be well placed to enjoy the benefits of this provision. A dedicated Sixth Form centre ensures that students have the balance of a school experience whilst developing the skills of independence, research and resilience needed for Post 16 study.

Just call in and find out what’s happening in your library. Northleigh House School, located between Warwick and Shrewley, was established by a retired couple, Viv & Fred Morgan, in their home in 2012, after they heard about a 14 year old schoolgirl who committed suicide due to bullying at her secondary school.
After looking into the options available to teenagers in a similar situation, and finding very little available, they decided to create Northleigh House School. The school enables secondary school aged children who have dropped out of mainstream education due to bullying or for emotional reasons, to continue their education in a safe and nurturing environment and to receive any counselling or help they may need. So far, Northleigh has helped 35 children and of those, at least 50% had attempted to take their own lives. Class sizes are small with a ratio of 2-3 children per teacher maximum and currently we have 19 children with a full and part-time staff list of 25. The school follows the national curriculum, allowing the children
to sit GCSE exams, but Northleigh also endeavours to match specific interests of the children to other subjects too, including horseriding, photography, textiles, cookery, music. In October 2015, Viv & Fred Morgan travelled to London to be presented with a ‘Special Recognition’ award at the ITV Pride of Britain Awards, for their work looking after vulnerable children. Viv was also interviewed alongside a former pupil of Northleigh by Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on the ‘This Morning’ ITV programme. This former pupil, who had been bullied at her previous
school, had attempted suicide and didn’t even want to leave the house for nearly two years, is now a happy, bubbly and attractive young lady who is studying for her A levels at a mainstream VI form college. Although the school receives funding from the local council for each child who attends, this money just about covers their education and not much else, so, much time is take up with fundraising and applying for grants. As we are only a small charity too, we are still trying to raise our profile in an environment already dominated by many bigger, better known charities.

• 29 per cent of properties currently on the market have had their asking price reduced • Average discount figure has risen by over £3,500 since the start of the year
The average reduction in property asking prices stands at over £25,000, according to leading property website Zoopla. This figure has grown by almost £4,000 to £25,265 from £21,570 since January this year, marking a 17 per cent increase. Almost a third (29 per cent) of properties currently listed for sale on Zoopla have seen their price reduced at least once since originally being listed. This represents a 0.43 per cent increase in the number of price reductions since the start of 2016. Eight of the 10 areas with the highest proportion of properties with a reduced asking price are located in the north of England, with almost half of all properties listed in St Helens (43.7 per cent), Hartlepool (42.5 per cent) and Middlesbrough (40 per cent) having been marked down. Also in the top 10 are Haverfordwest in Wales, and Great Yarmouth in East Anglia. When it comes to where asking prices have been discounted the most, the top area is Barnet – where 10.8% is the average amount knocked off asking prices – followed by Coventry (10.4 per cent) and Salford (10.4 per cent). Inside the top 20, London isn’t far behind with an average reduction percentage of 7.8 per cent – above the overall national average of 6.86 per cent. Prices in Northampton,
Milton Keynes and Maidenhead have been reduced the least with asking prices marked down by 4.53, 4.58 and 4.73 per cent respectively. London’s borough of Kensington and Chelsea tops the list of the 10 London boroughs with the highest proportion of asking price reductions - 33 per cent of properties in the area have been marked down in price. This is closely followed by Hammersmith and Fulham (32 per cent) and Kingston upon Thames (30 per cent). However, those looking for the largest possible reductions should look to Enfield, which checks in at number one on the top 10 list of London boroughs with an average discount of 8.4 per cent. At the upper end of the of the national property market, almost a quarter (24 per cent) of properties with an asking price of over £1m have been reduced since their original listing, with the average discount standing at nearly £180k (£179,593). Lawrence Hall, spokesperson for Zoopla comments: “The small increase in the number of properties for sale with reduced asking prices and the rise in the average discount to over £25k should be welcome news for aspiring homeowners looking to get a foot onto the property ladder. Despite increasing house prices across the country, there’s clearly still space for negotiation, and doing your research to find the best deal is definitely still worth the time.”

Warwickshire built scheme receives top honour One of Warwickshire’s most impressive property schemes triumphed over the region’s most innovative new built projects to gain top honours at this year’s RICS Awards, West Midlands held on Friday 20 May at Aston Villa Football Ground, Birmingham. Walking away with the Tourism & Leisure award was British Motor Museum Collections Centre in Gaydon. The British Heritage Industry Trust is now able to manage and conserve its internationally-important car collection to the highest possible standard. The new two-storey centre provides a large open space to showcase 250 vehicles, with a conservation and restoration workshop area to
ensure the long term conservation of the collection, whilst providing an educational area with associated office accommodation and welfare facilities. Chair of RICS West Midlands judging panel, Richard Moxon FRICS commented: “The new Collections Centre provides a fantastic state of the art facility enabling visitors to get a peek behind the scenes at the world’s largest collection of British motor cars. Special tours of the Reserve Collection with a viewing gallery over the modern vehicle workshops add a new dimension to the visitor experience; and give the museum greater opportunities to showcase the best of the British motor industry, and develop education and research opportunities.”
The annual RICS Awards, West Midlands celebrate inspirational initiatives in the land, property and construction sectors. TV personality, Amanda Lamb - best known for presenting Channel 4s Place in the Sun- presented this year’s glittering ceremony which was attended by over 250 local property professionals. The highly acclaimed Project of the Year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice. This was awarded to the Grand Central & Birmingham Gateway which triumphed over what the panel of 16 judges described as fierce competition. The £1billion scheme represents the most significant investment in regenerating Birmingham in a generation transforming one of the UK’s busiest

rail terminals. Grand Central, premium retail and dining area sitting about the newly transformed New Street Station, provides resurgent Birmingham with another iconic landmark. Victoria Hampson, RICS Regional Director (North & Midlands) commented: “The talent, vision and exceptional skills behind this year’s winners, and all shortlisted projects, have been exemplary. Yet again we have been amazed at the hugely positive impact that many of these projects have on their local area.” All winners for the categories will now automatically be entered into the national RICS Awards Grand Final, where they will compete against other leading projects from across the UK at the Park Lane Hotel in London 14 October.

£30 per year year cost not neccessary for motorists UNWITTING motorists fork out £30 per year per car for Motor Legal Protection when they don’t have to. That’s according to Lee Jones, founder and managing director of Free Motor Legal, a free membership site that aims to help British motorists keep more cash in their pockets. Motor Legal Protection is typically sold as an add-on policy along with motor insurance policies. These ‘top up’ policies assist with recovery of expenses after a collision that was not their fault, such as hire car costs, policy excess, lost earnings and compensation for personal injuries. However, now motorists can get access to these same services for free. Lee Jones explains: ‘Motor Legal
Protection is widely sold throughout the UK with a typical premium of £30.00. After an accident, your insurer refers you to a lawyer of their choosing to recover any losses you’ve experienced and compensation for injuries. But here’s what most motorists don’t know. ‘The insurer also gets paid commission from the lawyers for passing clients onto them, the same for car hire companies. What’s more, the insurer never pays the lawyers for their services. The lawyers get their fees from the insurance company of the party at fault. This means that the insurance company gets paid twice for doing very little. In fact each policy costs them as little as 50p, meaning they make a mark up in the region of 6000% on each motorist.’ Working as a laywer in the insur-
ance industry for 20 years, Jones saw how the industry functioned and set about getting motorists a better deal without having to compromise on what facilities are available to them if they have a non-fault accident. ‘I saw a free alternative way of working for the motorist while still giving them the same level of service and benefits they are seeing from the insurance industry, without charging them £30 a year to sell on their details,’ he explains. ‘Instead of charging an annual premium for motor legal protection, motorists can join Free Motor Legal for free, giving them lifetime membership and repeated annual savings whilst still having complete freedom of choice for any UK motor insurer for their regular motor insurance. This allows people to still hit the

price comparison sites and get the best deals; they just don’t need to pay for any additional motor legal protection.’ How does it work? • Free Motor Legal is a membership site. Once you sign up, you are a member for life. • If you’re in an accident that wasn’t your fault, you contact Free Motor Legal who gets a team of lawyers acting on your behalf, exactly the same way the insurance companies would. • The lawyers work on a no win, no fee basis so will claim their fees from the at-fault party’s insurer. • Free Motor Legal gets paid commission from some of their service providers the same way the insurance companies are – the only difference, it doesn’t cost the motorist
anything as they didn’t have to pay the £30 premium. • Motorists will continue to take out normal third party or comprehensive motor insurance but simply don’t tick the box for add on Motor Legal Protection. ‘Motor legal insurance has been a gravy train for insurance companies for a long time. £30 a year may not seem like a lot, but multiply it by 30,000,000 motorists, and could insurers make £900,000,000 off a product that only costs them at most £15,000,000. That’s just plain wrong. I want motorists to know that they can put £30 back in their pockets simply by signing up for free membership to Free Motor Legal,’ Lee says. I would like to put on record, to all the fans and players that have played for me, my gratitude in the work Matt Clifton and Gareth Palmer have done for me and the club. They both leave the club in a much better position than when they joined Coleshill Town FC . Matt Clifton joined the club over 3 years ago and became 1st team coach and has worked for free for the same amount of time that I have been in charge and has been a super star . He has never asked for anything from me and I have been tough on him at times when other people let me down but this young man leaves me to further his education at Birmingham City Ladies and Solihull Moors, where he will be doing all the video analysis of all their matches. I truly wish him well and my success while at Coleshill would not of happened but for his amazing attitude and energy. Gareth Palmer, my old friend, and Assistant Manager leaves Coleshill after a tough year of travelling the globe but will always be remembered for his book of banter that was Introduced the season we can 2nd. He recently got married and with his wife living in France I could not ask him to turn up on Tuesday nights when he will be globetrotting seeing his wife and son and working all over the UK. He is, and will always be, a true friend of mine and I do look forward to him popping in when he is back in Birmingham. Both these gentleman will be missed by myself but as they say in the movies the show must go on so I will making announcements of a new Coleshill Management team that will be working with myself and the NEW under 21`s staff for the coming season. Regards Paul Casey
