Coleshill Youth Brass’ Success at Hardraw Scar Sunday 10th September saw Coleshill Youth Brass make the 150 mile journey to North Yorkshire to compete in the annual Hardraw Scar contest in Hawes, set alongside the beautiful Hardraw Force waterfall. The event saw twelve bands from across the country competing. The weather should have been kinder with it being early September, however the weather gods made other plans; the heavens opened all day meaning that the beautifully polished bandsmen’s shoes and neatly pressed trousers were now soggy, damp and muddy. Even the marquee that had been assembled to deal with such eventualities ended up as a squelchy quagmire by the massed-band

Despite the somewhat hostile weather conditions, Coleshill Youth Brass performed their set of music enthusiastically, their extra Summer rehearsals had really paid off. The choice of music was themed by MD Stephen Fagg, to contain a theme of the times of the day: • Contest Day (march) • Morning Mood from Peer Gynt • Tea for Two • Sweet Sunset • Evening Song (the Day thou Gavest – Hymn) • A Hard Day’s Night The day then finished with a massed band finale in the marquee and the results:

Coleshill Youth Brass came fourth, winning a cash prize and a trophy which was an excellent result considering that they were the only Youth Band there competing against adult bands. They also fielded the four youngest players on the day, who won £25.00 each from the organisers: • Andrew Livingstone • Oliver Tizick • Sam Edwards • Toby Ball With cuts in musical education making the headlines nationally, isn’t it encouraging to know that youngsters in Coleshill and the surrounding areas have access to musical education and inspiring cultural activities such as this?

finale at the end of the day. It was also markedly cold for the time of year: Adjudicator Marieka Gray in her summing up, thanked the gentleman who had been providing her with hot water bottles throughout!

We be jammin’

– at Coleshill Country Market Coleshill Country Market has a record number of different jams, jellies, pickles and preserves on sale at their weekly Friday morning market after bumper crops of home-grown fruit and vegetables. The 30 types include lemon curd, honey, unusual jams such as fresh fig, apricot, loganberry, early yellow plum, damson, greengage and marrow and ginger as well as traditional strawberry and raspberry. Among the jellies are blackberry, crab apple and redcurrant, three types of marmalade, pickled eggs, cabbage, onions, cucumber and beetroot plus three different chutneys: vegetable, beetroot and marrow. The Market is also selling eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables and has some new attractions, including a range of popular cacti and other succulents grown by Martin Cross and several varieties of cut flowers by his fellow gardening expert Janet Reilly – and both are usually on hand to give customers advice on all aspects of horticulture. There is an eye-catching selection of unique, hand-drawn greetings cards for different occasions and hand-knitted and crocheted items. Roger Barber’s range of beautifully-turned wooden bowls and vases, pestles and mortars, is proving popular as is the latest line of hand-made glassware, pendants and hanging decorations from Sarah James of Bumblebee Glass. “We’re proud of our new selection of home-made, home-grown and hand-crafted produce” said Market Chairman Margaret Burrell “and of course our baked goods - fruitcakes, savouries, quiches and flapjacks - are always a big draw. We also do smaller sizes that suit people on their own. Our regular customers enjoy the friendly atmosphere when they come in for a chat over a cuppa and a cake. For anyone who can’t get there on Friday mornings between 8 and noon or would like something special made, we can take orders with a couple of days’ notice and arrange delivery.” Coleshill Country Market is at the Parish Room, 132 High Street, Coleshill, B46 3BJ every Friday morning from 8am to noon. A Government Planning Inspector has once again overruled local Councillors and granted planning permission for another takeaway in Coleshill. The application, originally submitted to the Borough Council to turn 6 Coventry Road into a hot food takeaway was refused by North Warwickshire Borough Council. The applicant appealed directly to the Secretary of State for Local Government, Conservative MP, Sajid Javid who appointed a Planning Inspector to review the case. The decision to overrule the Borough Council has been made worse by the Government Inspector’s decision to award costs to the applicant, meaning the Council will have to pay a substantial amount of money to the applicant. Labour Group Leader and Coleshill Councillor, Adam Farrell said; “This is another example of the Government saying one thing on localism and then doing the complete opposite. Local Councillors opposed this planning application because Coleshill is already dominated by food outlets. We need to bring retail back to our town. “We followed the Council’s own policy that says areas shouldn’t be over saturated with similar businesses. It seems the Government has no regard for local policies or the neighbourhood plan recently passed in a referendum. “For the Government to award costs against the Council is another nail in the coffin of local decision making and localism.”

Fitted sleeves, sire? I am afeared you will have to wait 200 years for those On the 18 September, Sarah Thursfield took us back seven centuries for her talk on the medieval tailor. As well as what folk dressed in, Sarah is also interested in why they dressed as they did. Early sleeveless tunics were not cut from a pattern; they were simply cut from cloth, sewn, and draped over the wearer’s figure. Improvements in materials, tools and methods changed simple garments. The coming together of the linen armourers and the tailors in 1327 exposed the secrets of each trade to the other. The cutting skills of the tailors were married to the shaping knowledge of the linen armourers. Garments could now be shaped, cut and sewn to match the wearer’s figure. Clothing became more sophisticated. Then standardised. The pattern was born. Facts at a glance: • Bone needles can be traced back 30,000 years. Iron needles to the beginning of the Iron Age. • One-piece spring shears for cutting date back to 500 B.C. Hinged scissors to around 1300 A.D. • The tape measure is only about 200 years in existence. Prior to this a yardstick was employed for measuring.

• ‘Tailor’ comes from the Anglo-Norman French taillour, meaning cutter. It came into being after 1100 A.D. • Often described as ‘the birth of fashion’ a clothing revolution took place during the 1340s, in the reign of Edward III. Men’s clothing departed significantly from women’s clothing. Short, tight-fitting jackets with set-in sleeves accentuated bodylines and replaced draped clothing. Council Statement on Weekly Markets

Town & Borough Councillor Coleshill North

The facts about the upcoming Coleshill Market: Bringing a market back to Coleshill, an historic market town, has been a long term aim of Coleshill Town Council. Over many years, many attempts have been made but have failed for many different reasons. It is with this in mind that the Town Council is delighted that CJ Events Warwickshire have decided to come to our town and run a weekly market. This is a company with a track record of delivering top quality markets in towns like Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington. In January 2017, Council representatives met with CJ Events Warwickshire to discuss the potential for a market to be held in the town. In July 2017 the Town Council received a follow up from CJ Events Warwickshire stating that they wished to organise a market on Sumner Road, every Wednesday to start once road closure procedures had been followed. On Wednesday 27th July 2017 the Town Council’s Community & Environment Committee considered whether or not to support this venture. It unanimously agreed to do so. It is important to understand that the Town Council is not ‘contracting’ CJ Events Warwickshire to run this market and no payment is being received by the Town Council. The Town Council is supporting this venture for two reasons: The Town Council supports a market returning to our market town

At this meeting, the Council listened to the concerns of residents living on Sumner Road and whilst the Council maintained its support for the weekly market, it was able to provide the following mitigation measures: All residents of Sumner Road who drive will be provided with a parking pass for the Town Hall. The Town Hall parking spaces will be reserved for these residents. The area will be litter picked at the end of each day, including the hedges belonging to the Sumner Road properties. The emergency services have supported the road closure and the layout will be such that all emergency vehicles will be able to access the street in an emergency. Public toilet facilities will be available for stall holders and members of the public at the Town Hall. A dedicated market manager will be on site for the entirety of the road closure. The Police and the rural crime team would be on site on a regular basis to provide added reassurance to local residents. At the meeting on 14th August, the Town Council informed residents of Sumner Road that their next step, should they wish to oppose the road closure, would be to contact Keith Evans at the Borough Council. As a result of the concerns and objections of the majority of residents living on Sumner Road, the Borough Council Management Team asked Councillors of the Community and Environment

Commonly Asked Questions: Where will residents and shoppers park when Sumner Road is closed? Residents of Sumner Road will be able to park at the Town Hall and will be provided with dedicated reserved spaces from Tuesday evening until the road closure is lifted on Wednesday evening. Alternative parking is now available at Coleshill Memorial Park, just a 5-minute walk from Sumner Road. The Memorial Park now benefits from an increased number of spaces following the Councils recent investment in the car park. Won’t this just take trade away from the High Street and our local traders? The organisation that represents the majority of High Street traders, Love Coleshill, is supportive of this new market. Their members democratically voted to support the market. The Town Council have asked retailers not on the High Street to be contacted by CJ Events Warwickshire to offer them a discounted stall on the market. In fact, any Coleshill business can claim a discounted stall on the market. Why was Sumner Road chosen over other locations such as Church Hill, High Street, The Croft or Coleshill Memorial Park? It is important to note that this is a private company organising a market for profit with the costs of success of failure borne by the company involved. The Town Council (or indeed any Council) does not have any control over the market, purely influence. The location is a decision for CJ Events and whilst no location will be perfect, because we do not have a market square, the following points are made in relation to the other locations mentioned: Church Hill – Church Hill has over 50 residential properties, is the vehicle entrance to the Church for services, weddings and funerals and in the longer term, could be impacted by changes to its traffic flow with impending decisions on developments like Daw Mill and the North Warwickshire Local Plan. High Street – Despite not being common knowledge, the High Street (between Church Hill and Sumner Road) contains nearly 50 residential properties and is the main bus route through the town. The Croft – this area is located next to the

cemetery and despite rumours that funerals do not happen on Wednesdays, the cemetery is used every day of the week, as we bury not for Coleshill Churches but for people who have at any point in their lives, have lived in Coleshill. The main reason for non-use of the Croft is that CJ Events deem it to be nonviable (off the beaten track /out of the way). The market would also damage the grounds in winter. Coleshill Memorial Park – The Memorial Park Car Park provides access to a Children’s Nursery and is now the largest off-road public car park in the town. It would not be practical to provide a market on the Car Park. The Council has a policy of no longer allowing the football pitches to be used for anything other than sport apart from the Coleshill Carnival (for which the pitch is protected and treated). ‘The Council did not consult with residents about this market.’ This is not a Town Council run market. It is managed by a private company who are under no obligation to consult the wider community. CJ Events Warwickshire have followed the law in regards to its consultation over the road closure. The Borough Council is responsible for road closures and followed the correct procedure for authorising the road closure. So which Councillors voted for this? All 10 Town Councillors voted to support a market on the basis outlined in this statement. All 35 Borough Councillors voted to approve the road closure. Why won’t Councillors respond to comments on Facebook? Whilst Facebook is a useful tool for sharing information and airing views of the community, abuse of Councillors and continual personal attacks is not something ‘that comes with the job’ of being a Councillor. The Council will respond via the Town Hall offices and its own website. It will post Facebook output where it is useful to get the correct detail of Council agreed policies and actions, rather than for debate, which takes place in democratic meetings. Will the road closure be reviewed? The road closure will be reviewed on a rolling basis and any issues resolved as and when they happen. A formal review will take place in 6 months’ time with the Borough Council considering the first 6 months of closure.

This month I’ve written a summary of some key local issues: House and commercial building plans for North Warwickshire; a public consultation being run by Birmingham Airport about changes to flight paths; two local funding schemes that you can bid for to support local projects; and, I’ll finish off with some interesting news you may not have heard. North Warwickshire Local Development Plan. Work on the Local Plan continues, the plan has been in development for over a year and will hopefully be formally adopted in Spring 2018. The Plan stipulates where all the residential and commercial development will take place in the borough over the next fifteen years up to 2033. As with all other district councils NWBC has been set a new house approval requirement and ours is 6,800 homes and an additional 40 hectares of new employment land. The current proposals are that this growth will primarily be in Polesworth, Dordon and Atherstone along the A5 corridor with other growth at Ansley Common and Hartshill. There are other smaller local allocations in other settlements including 94 new homes across four sites in Coleshill and 48 in Water Orton on the existing primary school site. Full details of these and all the other allocation sites can be found at the following web page: https://www.northwarks.gov.uk/info/20028/ forward_planning/1357/new_draft_local_plan The Plan will hopefully go out for a second six-week round of public consultation later this month. I will update you with local dates. Without doubt this Local Plan is the most important document to have been produced by

NWBC in the last ten years. Please do try and attend the consultation events and have your say on the plans, and have a look at the draft Local Plan on the internet. Birmingham Airport Runway 33 Consultation. The airport is currently running a consultation on proposed changes to the flightpath for Runway 33. Runway 33 is basically used by all aircraft that we currently see taking off over Curdworth, Water Orton and Coleshill. The Airport’s plan is to group the aircraft taking off into far tighter air-corridors which means that many of us will have fewer planes flying directly over our homes, but some of us who might be under the proposed new corridor will have far more aircraft flying overhead. The Airport’s preferred route will fly directly over Curdworth and Hams Hall. The consultation documents can be found at the following website: https://www.birminghamairport.co.uk/aboutus/community-and-environment/flight-pathchanges-north-runway33/ Public consultation will run until Monday 6th November and a consultation response form is available on the website which can be submitted electronically or in hard copy. If you would like a hard copy of the response form or you want to know more then please contact me. Funding. A quick reminder that the HS2 Community Benefit Fund and the Warwickshire County Councillor’s Grant Funds are both open for bids. If you have a project in mind that you are interested in bidding for money for, then please let me know and I’ll explain how to submit a bid. And finally, the interesting news you may not have heard. Did you know that North Warwickshire has come second in the Office of National Statistics annual survey of the happiest places to live in the UK? How good is that? We were second to Craven, which is a district in the Yorkshire Dales whilst the Orkneys came in third. What do you mean you can’t believe that? Have a look at the following website: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/ sep/26/yorkshire-dales-craven-happiest-uk-onshertsmere-london With kind regards, Dave.

Invasive plant, Himalayan balsam meets its match! The Tame Valley Wetlands Landscape Partnership is working with CABI scientists and partners to introduce a new control method for Himalayan balsam, a non-native plant species that is negatively impacting the river corridor and its associated wetland habitats, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Non-native invasive species cost millions of pounds each year to control. Their negative effect on our native wildlife and habitats is of deep concern to conservation groups. One such plant is Himalayan balsam. In 2003, the Environment Agency estimated it would cost £300 million to eradicate completely. Since then, the weed has continued to invade new areas. Introduced to the UK in the 19th Century as an ornamental plant, Himalayan balsam spread to the wider environment and negatively affected rivers, floodplains, connected ditches and waterbodies. The plant efficiently spreads through seed dispersal, with each plant producing up to 2,500 seeds that are released and catapulted to a distance of up to seven metres. It is then widely spread through rivers and flood events, colonising river banks and connected wetland to create dense stands of plants. In 2006, CABI scientists were commissioned by the Environment Agency, DEFRA and the Scottish Government to find a reliable and efficient biological control method for Himalayan balsam. Field visits to the Himalayan foothills of India and Pakistan identified a number of natural enemies that were tested as potential biological control agents for the weed. Most of these agents were later ruled out, but a highly specific rust fungal plant pathogen, which lives its whole life cycle on Himalayan balsam, was found to offer the best control solution. The Tame Valley Wetlands area is now benefiting from over 10 years of CABI research, public consultation and associated field trials by introducing the rust fungus on to Himalayan balsam at two locations within the Tame Catchment area. If successful, the rust will help decrease the impact of the weed. Tracey Doherty, Wetland Landscape Officer for the Tame Valley Wetlands Landscape Partnership said:

“100,000’s of volunteer hours are spent controlling Himalayan Balsam along our rivers and floodplains in the UK. There are many negative effects of this plant on the environment, namely the monoculture that it creates. These tall 10-12ft plants with large leaves shade out our native plant species and also reduce the beneficial fungi that live in the soil that our native plants need but balsam doesn’t. Its shallow root system does not help with soil retention, contributing to erosion and aiding sedimentation pathways into our rivers and streams that negatively affect water quality, fish and invertebrate populations. Biodiversity is reduced in these Himalayan balsam dominated sites. Less species use the plant, although some pollinators do have a benefit when in flower. An effective, plant specific rust fungus which has undergone consultation process and rigorous testing is a valuable tool to combat the spread and aid control of this invasive plant. The rust fungus will not eradicate Himalayan balsam completely from our landscape but it should make it more manageable, by being one of a number of plants along a water course instead of creating a monoculture, having more negative effects on our environment, than positive. This means pollinators will still be able to use the plant but more importantly, they will be able to feed and pollinate our native plant species instead. We are grateful to Heritage Lottery Fund and our Partners for supporting this pioneering work.” Carol Ellison, Senior Plant Pathologist, Invasive Species Management at CABI said: “Invasive plants that have been introduced into a new area usually arrive without the natural enemies, such as insects and diseases, which keep them from dominating in their native habitats. Biological control aims to redress this imbalance by introducing damaging, coevolved natural enemies into the invasive range, to achieve sustainable suppression of the weed. This approach,

although new to Europe, has been implemented globally for well over 100 years, with some spectacular successes. Strict scientific procedures are followed to ensure the safety of the selected agent. We are optimistic that once established in an area, the rust fungus will spread naturally and significantly reduce the growth and seed production of Himalayan balsam. Although this is likely to take a number of years to achieve, as the rust fungus needs to build up in a population, the impact will be permanent, unlike conventional control methods, such as manual removal and herbicides.” This project is part of the Tame Valley Wetlands – a landscape partnership scheme supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, aiming to create a wetland landscape, rich in wildlife and accessible to all. The Tame Valley Wetlands is led by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust in partnership with a wide variety of organisations including charities, local groups, statutory bodies and councils. This project is working collaboratively with CABI scientists, West Midland Bird Club, Warwickshire County Council - Country Parks and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

Goodbye Mrs Francis In July the children and staff at High Meadow Infant School held a very special assembly to say goodbye to a very special lady. Sue Francis has worked tirelessly at High Meadow for 26 years. She had many roles including School Governor, Deputy Play Leader in our Out of Hours Club, Nursery Management Committee member, and not forgetting her role in the kitchen serving the During the assembly, all the children sang special songs for Sue and the staff read out special heartfelt messages about their member of our staff team who was always on hand to help out with colleague. The children then presented Sue with lots of leavers gifts Sue was also fantastic at keeping our school grounds looking anything. We will miss her tremendously but hope she has the well and cards. Coleshill WI September meeting At our September meeting we celebrated the exciting news that our popular member Darrilyn Downes had been awarded a well-deserved MBE for services to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Darrilyn, a former pupil of Coleshill School and long-time local resident had been a hugely devoted headmistress at the Forest Oak School, Birmingham until her recent retirement. She is also a churchwarden of Coleshill Church and has been involved in numerous worthwhile community projects. She was warmly congratulated by her fellow-members and will receive her honour in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on November 2nd.

John and Annette Christophers from Albrighton Pottery gave a fascinating talk on the history of potting from 8000 years ago up to the Industrial Revolution in Stoke-on-Trent. Marbles, plates, pots and cups made from clay and dating back to 6000 BC have been found, with round bowls pressed into wicker baskets, giving them a woven pattern on the outside. Everyone was then given a lump of clay then told to break it in half and mould one half into a biscuit shape. We then rolled the other half into a long sausage shape and made these into the initials of our names, stuck them onto the ‘biscuit’ and gave them back to Annette who pressed them all into a cloth-covered container to mould them into a large bowl shape. She took this home to be fired and we hope to display the finished creation at our next meeting. Afterwards we used damp tissues to clean the bright red pigment from the clay off our hands, an occupational hazard. Annette and John then showed us some of the stunningly decorated pieces they had produced at their pottery, both thrown and moulded.

Coleshill WI Special Late Summer Meeting Thirty Coleshill WI members and guests enjoyed a demonstration with a difference at a special Late Summer Meeting when President Elaine Partridge displayed her flower-arranging expertise and then helped members create their own arrangements. Everyone had brought a selection of different flowers while Elaine herself supplied a variety of blooms and foliage plus the Oasis material for securing the arrangements. Even the novices produced some attractive displays and learned a lot about the technical and artistic aspects of floristry. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a spread of cheese and wine, organised by Elaine, Jane Hewitt and the committee.

Christine Jones won the competition for a member’s photograph representing Coleshill, with her atmospheric shot of Coleshill Church taken from St Peter’s Walk. Members of Wishaw WI will host our Group meeting in Coleshill Town Hall on Tuesday 24th October at 7.30pm with entertainment by “The Merry Midwives.” Parking available opposite the Town Hall. At our next meeting at the Town Hall on October 10th, we are celebrating the 95th anniversary of Coleshill WI’s foundation. Renowned war historian Sir Andrew Hamilton will give an illustrated talk on his book “Meet at Dawn Unarmed, the Christmas Truce of 1914”. His grandfather Robert Hamilton, a captain in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, helped to instigate the World War I Christmas Truce with the Germans and the football kickabout in the trenches and kept vivid diaries of his experiences. The competition is for a late rose. Visitors welcome as always.

‘Kick Off’ at the Clay Ground. Several years ago at a social gathering, I was introduced to some of the players of Birmimgham City ladies Football Team, as usual, if I am involved we soon arrived at the sport of ‘Clay Shooting’ after this discussion, I was convinced that there was real potential in the natural ability they all had of ‘hand-eye, co-ordination’. To test this out I borrowed one of their female Coaches and put her to task on the ‘Skeet Range’, it worked out better than I thought. So for a number of years I have tried to get the team to a shooting ground to put my theory to the test, for whatever reason it has not happened till now, with support from the CPSA, and sponsorship by Solware

of Tamworth and Lea Marston Shooting Ground. On September the 12th, the full squad plus their coaches are arriving at Lea Marston to shoot 25 rounds at five different targets to create a ‘Have a go session’, the ‘Team’ Coaches will be Mhiari-Ann Troup, CPSA Coach of the Year 2016, who specialises in teaching youngsters, with Linda Grayson England International Shot, CPSA Coach of the Year 2017 who Coaches some of our top youngsters, and myself Coach of the Year 2014. While this will be a bit of a change for the ladies, it does fill a practical side in opening up opportunities of alternative sports to look at, either as a hobby, or to take up in later years, part of an F.A .programme, as most take up golf.......

Top tips for keeping spiders out of yourAnn. new Bespoke flower arrangements by Christine Telhome 07480 559843 If you’ve recently moved into a new home, you’ll probably be asking your friends and family around for a housewarming party. But as we enter autumn, you may have noticed an increase in the number of eight-legged visitors who most certainly haven’t been invited. Despite the old adage, ‘they are more scared of you’, this is cold comfort for those who are terrified of arachnids. For home owners who have noticed an increase in spiders emerging from their house’s nooks and crannies, NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty and insurance provider, have compiled some advice to help dissuade spiders from moving in. • Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of roughly half water and half white vinegar. Avoiding varnished surfaces, spray the mixture in corners and cracks. Alternatively, as strong smells are believed to deter spiders, try mixing natural oils like peppermint, lavender, rose oil, tea-tree and cinnamon into spray bottles and follow the same method. • Seal off your home by filling cracks and crevices around doors and windows which spiders could crawl through. • Do you still have cardboard boxes around from your move? If so, spiders like these, so where possible, empty and dispose of them. Try to use plastic boxes as an alternative storing solution. • Plant mint, lavender or both underneath or near windows as the strong smells will deter spiders. • Spiders also dislike citrus, so rub peel from lemons or limes along skirting boards and window sills. You can also try lemon-scented cleaners and furniture polish. • It has been said that spiders hate garlic, so place crushed cloves into a spray bottle filled with water and spritz in corners, floors and skirting boards. • Dust and vacuum regularly to get rid of webs and de-clutter your house as much as possible to reduce the number of places a spider can hide. Further advice for homeowners on property maintenance and other issues can be found on NHBC’s new homes website

News From North Warwickshire Labour Group

Planning Application for 70 homes in Ansley Village Turned Down A planning application that would have seen a further 70 homes built on land east of St Lawrence Road in Ansley Village has been rejected by North Warwickshire Borough Council. Local Ansley Village Councillor, Jodie Gosling said; “I’m extremely relieved that the Council has refused this application. Ansley Village has already taken its fair share of new housing. These extra 70 homes would have been a step to far. Not only do we not have the infrastructure for nearly doubling the size of the Ansley Village but more crucially, we are a rural Borough, we choose to live in a rural setting, not a concrete jungle. “Our countryside is so important to our way of life and to those of people in our existing settlements,

our towns and villages are historic and rural. We need to try and keep it that way. “Unfortunately this is not a simple as case closed, it’s highly likely that the applicant will now appeal to the Government. Unlike last time, I hope the Government listen to local people and local Councillors. “It’s reassuring that every single Labour Councillor opposed this development and that most of the Conservative Councillors did as well, acknowledging the detrement of this application, on top of all of the

My Dad – “The Best Drummer in The World” Remembering Robert Sheward

On 20th September 2016, my Dad Robert Sheward passed away suddenly leaving a massive hole in his family’s life. As a tribute to him I want to tell his amazing life story to you all.

Rob was born on 17th May 1940 in Castle Bromwich, he was the first born to Norman and Kate Sheward. 2 years later David came along. Rob went to Paget Road School in Castle Bromwich until he was 15 when he left to do an apprenticeship in carpentry. During his apprenticeship he started to play the drums, asking his mom to buy him the best set possible. He talked of lunch breaks where they would set their instruments up in the canteen and have a jamming session to pass the hour away. It was on this lunch hour that a friend of his said he had set up a band and they were looking for a drummer. The band was called The Night Hawkes. This was the start of his drumming career that saw him play with lots of bands over the next 40 years, some of which were Birmingham’s biggest bands, Danny King and The Royals, The Carpet Baggers and El Riot and The Rebels who went on to become The Moody Blues. He had so many stories of his life playing the drums including when he was sat with Gene Vincent in a back-street Aston pub, drinking beer, chatting and laughing. Gene raised his glass and said, “cheers guys, here’s to your new band” The story goes that the band was yet to have a name and they were struggling to find the right one. Gene leaned over picked up a magazine and said, “here you go boys” and read out the title “The Carpet Baggers” and so it was. Other stories included Eddie Calvert joining them playing the trumpet and when they were on the TV. The most famous story of all though was when Rob was playing with El Riot and The Rebels and they were the support band playing for the Beatles at their Birmingham Gig and as they were part way through Robs base pedal broke. Ringo Star crawled along the stage to his drum kit got is base pedal and took it to Rob to use for the rest of the set. Robs Dad Norman was a specialist in Carburettors and bought and built NS Motors one of the first units on Gorsey Lane (Station Road Industrial Estate). He sent Rob to Colmore Depot to be trained as a Mechanic as he had the vision that he and Rob would work together in the garage fixing cars, solving problems and making the garage a place that residents wanted to bring their cars to. They did this for many years working as best friends as well as Father and Son. “Norm” died in 1990 leaving Rob broken hearted.

Warwickshire walkers pick up the pace against Parkinson’s More than 133 Warwickshire walkers picked up the pace to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s last week, when they took on Walk for Parkinson’s – Packwood House. The event is one of a series of 32 sponsored Walk for Parkinson’s events being held up and down the country during 2017. Fundraisers walked a six-mile route around the stunning grounds of Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton. Parkinson’s UK hopes to raise £8,000 from the day. Sarah Wakeman, Regional Fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK in the West Midlands, said: “Thank you to everyone who walked and volunteered at Walk for Parkinson’s - Packwood House to help make it such a fantastic day. A huge thanks to Packwood House and Baddersley Clinton for their support of the event too. “All money raised from Walk for Parkinson’s will help us to provide support and information for people affected by Parkinson’s and to help find better treatments, and ultimately a cure.” For more information on the Walk series, see www.parkinsons.org.uk/walks

El Riot and the Rebels and The Beatles

Rob met Pauline in the 60s and although wanted to marry, they had to keep postponing due to Rob’s commitments to his drumming gigs. Then Rob came home one day and said “I've cancelled a weekend’s worth of gigs for us to get married, we can save on tax as a married couple” typical Rob! They went on to have 3 girls Joanne, Penny and Aimee and were blessed with a Grandson Frank and Granddaughter Lyla who was born the day after Rob’s funeral so sadly he didn’t get to meet. I am sure he is with her and the family see a sparkle of Robs spirit in her eyes. Rob and his family lived in Whitacre Heath for 34 years and Rob was a much-loved man His long hair, his cowboy boots, his denim jeans (he insisted on Wranglers), his check shirts and his cowboy hat made him instantly recognisable. He was a kind person and he would always take part in fund raising events in the village which would help those less fortunate. He played the most amazing drum solo at one of our village shows in the style of Gene Crouper. He regularly visited Blythe Special School and enjoyed playing his drums for the children and letting them ‘have a go’. He visited a stage show once which was put on by a theatrical group made up entirely of people with physical and learning difficulties – and he was moved to tears. Rob was a deep thinking, sensitive man. He loved his family (his four girls). He was fun to be with. He was witty, he was charming, he was talented, he was sociable and very hospitable – and yet he was somehow a modest, patient man with a quiet presence. Rock n Roll in the Sky – Rest in Peace Dad X

Labour Councillor calls for improved rural public transport Labour's Group Leader on North Warwickshire Borough Council, Cllr Adam Farrell, has called on the West Midlands Combined Authority to improve public transport in rural areas like North Warwickshire. Speaking at a meeting on HS2 and public transport, Cllr Farrell told delegates and representatives of the Combined Authority that; "Areas like North Warwickshire are just a couple of miles from new transport infrastructure like HS2 and proposed metro lines. You'll be able to get to London in 50 minutes by train but it will take people in North Warwickshire longer to get to the actual station than it would to get from the station to London. We cannot let rural areas like North Warwickshire be left behind." Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Farrell said; "North Warwickshire is being left behind in terms of investment too. We've got a Tory Government allowing our green space to be concreted over with thousands of homes but no guarantee of infrastructure. "We're in danger of being cut off from the rest of the Midlands and the improved transport links it will have. "Residents in places like Coleshill, Water Orton and Curdworth have the same needs as those in urban areas but funding here is so much lower than in other parts of the country. "Yes it costs more to run services in rural areas but that can not be an excuse for limiting public transport in our Borough. "Labour will invest In our public transport system. Labour will put people before profit and renationalise our railways. We'll invest in new routes and will re-regulate bus services so that Councils can once again provide first class bus services for the many not for the few private shareholders." "I'm calling on our Tory MP's to follow Labour's lead and commit to the investment we need to deliver a first class public transport system for the people I represent in Coleshill and North Warwickshire."

Switch point

Savers are increasingly turning away from Cash ISAs as the impact of low returns and tax changes becomes clearer. Putting your money into a Cash ISA can be costly – and it appears that more and more UK savers are taking note. The latest figures from HMRC show that contributions to Stocks & Shares ISAs rose by more than 5.5% to £22.3 billion in the last tax year. Cash ISA subscriptions, on the other hand, fell by a staggering 33% to £39.2 billion.1 Add in all existing ISAs, and the shift is even more marked: for the first time since ISAs were launched, the total amount of money in Stocks & Shares ISAs is greater than the total deposited in Cash ISAs; 18 years after ISAs were founded, there are signs that UK savers are rethinking how to make the most of their allowance.

Russell Lowe, Director Lowe Sawyer Finacial Planning Ltd

It is not hard to see why. Inflation reached 2.9% in August.2 According to Moneyfacts, there are 1,721 savings products on the market, but none can beat the current rate of inflation – even the most generous fixed-rate bonds.3 Consequently, the real value of cash holdings is not just being eroded – it is being eroded at an accelerating rate. For savers with their money in a no-notice Cash ISA, the returns are of course even more dismal. At 0.61%, the return on the average no-notice Cash ISA offers a third less than it did just 12 months ago – even though inflation has been going in the opposite direction. Given the latest inflation figure, that means the average Cash ISA saver is forfeiting nearly 2.3% a year after inflation.4

Saving less, losing more

Part of the shift away from Cash ISAs reflects the fact that, since April 2016, basic-rate taxpaying savers can earn £1,000 a year in tax-free interest from standard current and deposit accounts. For higher-rate taxpayers the allowance is £500. The Personal Savings Allowance, as the new allowance is called, reduced the relative advantage of Cash ISAs, which had previously been the only available source of tax-free interest. It means that basic-rate savers receiving the average no-notice account rate of 0.38% could earn tax-free interest on deposits of over £263,000.4 Of course, some savers will continue to be attracted by the opportunity to earn tax-free interest above the level of the Personal Savings Allowance. Moreover, as and when interest rates rise, Cash ISA funds will retain their tax benefits, while the amount of money on which tax-free interest can be earned will reduce. But given the economic and political uncertainties, it seems very unlikely that savings rates will rise significantly for some time to come.5 Yet the larger trend is that people are saving less overall – not simply that they are shifting savings between accounts. According to figures released by the Office for National

· Investment Planning · Retirement Planning · Corporate Services · Estate Planning Specialist wealth management advice

Statistics (ONS), the savings rate – the amount that households save out of their income – fell to an all-time low of 1.7% in the first quarter of 2017.6 The ONS cited a number of causes: higher tax payments, stagnant wage growth, and rising inflation. It is sobering to think that the savings rate was 11.8% as recently as the first quarter of 2010.7 Yet despite being squeezed by the triple whammy of rising tax, falling income and mounting inflation, Bank of England figures show that savers still have more than £1.58 trillion sitting in retail savings accounts – and losing money in real terms.8 Moreover, although increasing sums have been flowing into Stocks & Shares ISAs, more than three out of four ISA accounts subscribed to in 2016/17 were still Cash ISAs.9 That trend has been consistent for many years, suggesting that a preference for cash is proving a hard habit to break, and that too many savers are still seeing cash as a solution for long-term wealth provision. The value of an ISA with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds selected and may fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested. An investment in a Stocks and Shares ISA will not provide the same security of capital associated with a Cash ISA. The favourable tax treatment of ISAs may not be maintained in the future and is subject to changes in legislation. ttps://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/number-of-individual-savings-accounts-isash amounts-subscribed-to-each-component-and-average-subscription https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/timeseries/d7g7/mm23 3 https://moneyfacts.co.uk/isa/best-cash-isa/ 4 See above 5 http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-1607881/When-UK-rates-rise.html 6 https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/nationalaccounts/uksectoraccounts/articles/ monthlyeconomiccommentary/june2017 7 http://www.retailbankerinternational.com/opinion/savings-picture-across-uk/ 8 Bank of England, August 2017 9 See above 1

Bring your business to life with video!

On Wednesday 13th September, 35 local business owners attended the monthly B46 Business breakfast event at the Red Lion on Coleshill High Street. The topic for the morning was particularly relevant to business professionals who are seeking to drive sales and brand awareness. The Brightest Bulb team explained how captivating video content can be produced by employees using smart phones rather than traditional and expensive, outsourced media teams. They enthusiastically demonstrated how the technology in smart phones has advanced enough to create quality video productions at a fraction of previous costs. All attendees gained a snap shot of the skills required to create high quality employee generated video. There was a great turnout for the engaging and relevant topic and all attendees learnt how they could gain a competitive edge over other small businesses, without huge costs. To demonstrate their impressive skill set, the Brightest Bulb team produced a short video during the morning to show how quickly and easily engaging content can be created and edited on a mobile device. Anna Plotnek of PLOTT Creative said “We learnt people only retain 10% of what they read, compared to 50% of what they watch. These days, people expect to see videos on business websites and social media platforms and there is a huge hunger for ‘bite size’ videos.” Penny Sheward-Hall of PS Recruitment commented “I was impressed by how simple it is to produce and edit your own content. It gives businesses a competitive advantage, regardless of sector; promoting services to potential customers, as well as attracting and recruiting the best people. We can now share news and updates and promote client testimonials.” To learn the skills needed to produce such captivating content the Brightest Bulb team are offering Coleshill Post readers a one day course in Birmingham on Tues 31st Oct at the discounted price of £275 each. For more information or to book please contact Ali Wylie ali@brightest-bulb.com. In November the B46 team will hold their 4th birthday breakfast at the Lea Marston Hotel ex Big Brother star PJ Ellis talking about local charity, Love Brum and their vision to build an even better Birmingham. Coleshill United Church Macmillan Coffee Morning United Church Macmillan Coffee Morning was a great success. We had a continuous stream of people coming through the door from 10am until about 12.Someone came in asking if the cakes were homemade, of course they were, he went off happy. The provisional total is £650, we are pleased with that total. Thanks to all the willing helpers and everyone who came to make the morning so enjoyable. One of the tables loaded with Bric a Brac. While there was much which deserves that name some of the items were of very good quality. Just surplus to requirements.

The table laden with goods for the Tombola and Pluck a Duck. Again many items were perhaps sweets or similar but for an outlay of £1 on the Pluck a Duck most winnings were worth more than £1 and you won every time. Of course on the tombola many prizes were worth considerably more but there was not a winner every time. An excellent morning all round and we would thank again all who contributed in any way. All the money taken that morning will be going to Macmillan Cancer to help fund their work in caring for anyone who suffers from any of the many forms of cancer.

Beware of conkers this autumn

Deano Breed: Japanese Akita X Size: Large Gender: Male (N) Centre: Birmingham Age: 2-3yrs Child Suitability: 13 Years + Live With Dogs: Possibly Status: Available

Deano is a very sweet chap and is very playful with everyone he meets. This stunning lad loves going on walks and knows a few basic commands, but further training would benefit him. When out in the paddocks, his favourite thing is to play with footballs and squeaky toys.

Conkers contain a poison called aesculin, so it is important to make sure our dogs don’t eat or swallow any conkers. Dogs would usually need to ingest several conkers to suffer severe poisoning, but it is best that they don’t eat any to be sure.

Please call the Birmingham Centre, if you are looking for a dog full of character.

Call our Birmingham Centre Rehoming Team to enquire about this dog on:

Conkers appear in autumn when they ripen and fall from the trees on to the ground.

Susie Breed: Saluki Size: Large Gender: Female Centre: Birmingham Age: 12 - 18 months Child Suitability: 10 years+ Live With Dogs: Possibly Status: Available

Susie is a nervous girl who would benefit from someone that has a lot of time to help her over come this. This beautiful girl might be able to live with a very tolerant dog as she's very over enthusiastic when meeting new dogs. We would suggest children over the age of 10 because Susie is very timid with new people but play nippy with people she knows. Suzie will need further lead and obedience training. Please call our Birmingham Centre, if you can offer Susie a lot of TLC and love she be longer for.

Government backing for Birmingham 2022 West Midlands MEP Anthea McIntyre has welcomed Government backing for Birmingham’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022. She spoke of her “pride and joy” after Culture Secretary Karen Bradley announced that Birmingham would be the UK’s official candidate city. Miss McIntyre said: “As a Conservative I am delighted our Government has thrown its full weight behind the Birmingham bid. It fills me with pride in our region and joy at the prospect of bringing this huge event to or own back yard. “This would be the most spectacular sports gathering the country has seen since London 2012. Not only would it be a great sporting party but it can have a transformational effect on large parts of the conurbation. “Now we must pull out all the stops to make sure we have the best bid of all the candidate cities.”

Horoscopes October 2017 By Louise Aries March 21 - April 20 October is all about partnership and intimacy for you, Aries. Anticipate plenty of excitement in that arena! Your ruling planet, Mars, is busy, too. It will connect with Pluto on October 1 and meet with Venus on October 5. Its connection with Pluto will find you making power moves in your career and your reputation—big changes will go down! You'll power through projects and make a name for yourself. Begin a regime of self care and wellness this will benefit you mentally and socially. Aries: There's a full moon in your sign on October 5. This will bring a turning point, a climax, even a confrontation in, or related to, a relationship. Your energy will be full on and you'll be as impulsive as ever. Get ready to let go of what and who you don't want in your life anymore look forward to a new beginning. Jupiter enters sexy Scorpio on October 10, activating the sector of your chart that rules sex and intimacy. Expect to make plenty of deep connections over the next year as lucky planet Jupiter travels through this mysterious, sensual sign! A profound meeting of the minds will take place. Secrets will be shared, and emotional transformations will occur. This also bodes well for your finances. Money that you're owed, or vice versa, will be paid, or at least, a new plan will manifest (on how to manage the issue). Just be careful not to commit to more than you're able to—Jupiter tends to exaggerate. Listen to your intuition. Lucky Numbers: 4, 19, 21, 32. Taurus April 21-May21 Taurus! Your ruling planet, Venus, is busy, connecting with Pluto on October 3 and Mars on October 5. Expect passion! Pluto is about secrets and intimacy, and Venus loves love, so this should bring a juicy event. Things will click into place easily, and a new cycle of love—and creative expression—is beginning. The full moon in Aries, on October 5, will result in shit hitting the fan if you're not up on your self-care routine. Venus clashes with Saturn on October 8, bringing stress, especially in your creative work and your love life. Issues of depth and intimacy may come to the fore. Venus enters Libra on October 14, encouraging you to hit the spa and work on your beauty and wellness routine. Venus brings good vibes wherever it goes, and since it will activate the sector of your chart that rules work, expect good energy at your day job, or simply while you handle your daily chores. A fresh start arrives with the new moon in Libra on October 19. Break bad habits, get healthy, and get organized. Venus squares off with Pluto on October 27, bringing stress, Taurus. Sweet Venus played nice with the lord of the underworld, Pluto, at the start of the month. But things are shaky by the end—be mindful of obsessive or manipulative behavior. Watch for people who try to control your life by manipulating or taking over your schedule. Watch out for someone who may try to take advantage of your lack of experience in a new environment. Lucky Numbers: 1, 11, 18 22. Gemini May 22 - June 21 A full moon in fiery Aries arrives October 5, marking the culmination of a creative project. It also brings a shift in your social and love life—expect drama with your friends and news about a crush! The Sun meets your planetary ruler, Mercury, on October 8, and they clash with Pluto on October 9. Watch for egos and power struggles. People will say whatever they want to get their way. Little do they know, you can't bullshit a bullshitter, and you, dear twins, are the queen and king of bullshitting! Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 10, marking the beginning of a yearlong journey. You'll reimagine your schedule, you daily routines, and your habits. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, so this next year, when lucky planet Jupiter moves through this Water sign, will focus on your health and wellness. You'll also hammer out a work schedule that is more beneficial and productive. If you're looking for more work, this will certainly bring opportunities. Expect drama when Mercury opposes Uranus, on October 15, and when the Sun takes its turn, doing the same, on October 19. Unexpected, shocking news will arrive. But you hate being bored, so I'm tempted to suggest that you mark these dates as positive in your calendar, rather than stressful. Mercury makes a harmonious connection with Pluto on October 27—again, a fantastic time to ask for a favor, especially from someone who has exclusive, VIP access to whatever you're after, whether that's cash or information. Are you good at keeping secrets, Gemini? Well, I have a secret for you: The better you are at keeping them, the more you will hear. Lucky Numbers 8, 14, 23, 33. Cancer June 22- July 23 Venus and Mars meet October 5, the same day as the full moon in Aries—good news is on the way. In fact, a cycle of productive communication is beginning! But full moons are often exhausting and emotional, especially for you, since you're ruled by the moon. Libra season has found you focused on home and family, but the full moon, in fiery Aries, will bring a crisis, confrontation, or climax of a situation in your public or professional life. You'll feel tension in your relationships on October 9, when Mercury and the Sun square off with Pluto. Reflect on your boundaries, Cancer, because people are likely to cross them. Watch for manipulators and egos. A change in who you invite into your safe spaces is likely. Venus enters charming Air sign Libra on October 14, a sign it loves to be in. Beautify your home or do some scrapbooking—you'll be in a nostalgic mood. Just resist the urge to reach out to your ex—you two broke up for a reason. October 26, when the Sun meets with Jupiter, will be another day to mark on your calendar. Jupiter loves to party; this is a planet that knows how to have fun, and now that it's in mysterious Scorpio, things are going to get interesting. The new moon in Libra arrives October 19, bringing you a fresh start to a situation in your home or family—aspects that are dear to you, Cancer. Libra is the sign of balance, and having a safe, comfortable space to retreat to is key to your self-care. Use this opportunity to energetically cleanse your home. The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23, officially kicking off Scorpio season. (Expect lots of sex and artistic inspiration, Cancer!) Mercury connects with Neptune on October 24, creating a dreamy, inspiring atmosphere. Lucky numbers 5, 17, 25, 35. Leo July 24 - August 23 Summer, your season, is long gone, Leo, but that's okay. Halloween is almost here— another opportunity for you to bring attention to yourself! Your focus is on money as action planet Mars make a helpful connection with Pluto, on October 1, followed by Venus meeting with Pluto on October 3. Pluto is the lord of the underworld (which includes hell). Yes, Pluto has a shady side, which means it has access to resources— valuable resources like oil and diamonds, things that we find underground—that not everyone else has access to. A full moon, in fellow Fire sign Aries, arrives October 5, bringing important information to light. An emotional conversation is likely, and Leo, your brain may feel overworked. So make time for yourself during this full moon. Power struggles are likely since on October 9, the Sun will square Pluto. Pluto is all about your dark side. Because the Sun will be making a stressful connection with it, you may find yourself relying on bad habits to cope with miscommunication, scheduling conflicts, and other issues at work. The Sun meets lucky planet Jupiter on October 26, and lovely vibes will fill your home. No one throws better parties than you, Leo; have friends over to enjoy your beautiful home. You're feeling confident, comfortable, grounded, and ready for your next adventure! Lucky numbers: 4, 19, 27, 31.

Virgo August 24 - September 23 Welcome to Libra season, Virgo! October finds you focusing on your finances. Security is squarely on your mind. Libra is the sign of balance, and you have a hard time keeping yours if you don't feel grounded and secure (in the material and emotional sense). Shake-ups arrive during the full moon, in fiery Aries, on October 5. The energy is emotional and confrontational! Libra energy is cool, logical, and diplomatic, but Aries vibes are fiery, passionate, and impulsive. We all contain the energies of the zodiac within us, and during this full moon, it's important that we balance these different aspects of ourselves. Debts, taxes, and even inheritances are on the table during this full moon, so expect information on these complex themes. Emotionally, reflect on generosity—you're the sign of service, always happy to help others, but how generous are the people in your life with you? Let go of the past. Build a bonfire in honour of Fire sign Aries, under the light of the full moon, and burn old belongings, letters, whatever, to symbolize your moving forward. Pay off debts—financial and emotional. Say you're sorry to someone you owe an apology to! Venus enters Libra October 14, followed by Mars on October 22. Sweet Venus loves to be in charming Libra, and this will certainly benefit your bank account as well as your self-esteem. Mars, the planet of war, doesn't love being in Libra so much, but their connection will still help you tackle issues concerning your cash flow. The new moon in Libra, on October 19, will also help reverse bad habits you've developed in spending and saving. Work money magic under this brilliant new moon! Lucky Numbers: 7, 13, 25, 36. Libra September 24 - October 23 Happy solar return, Libra! You're well known for being a kind, diplomatic person, but—as the Sun travels through your sign—use this time to be a brat. Focus on yourself and your goals. Be a little selfish—take the biggest slice of cake at your party. It's so unlike you, but it's your birthday, lovely Libra! On October 5, when Venus meets Mars, in Virgo, you might have a hard time putting your finger on how you're feeling and where things are heading. In many ways, a new cycle is beginning—one that will encourage you to trust your intuition. You'll also process complicated emotions and let go of the past. An exciting full moon, in Fire sign Aries, arrives October 5! Aries is your opposite sign on the zodiac wheel. Expect your partnerships to be a major focus. Full moons ask us to find balance. You, Libra, are diplomatic, concerned with fairness. Aries, however, is impulsive and confrontational. They don't care if something is fair; they care that they win. Like I said, Libra—take the biggest slice of cake for yourself this month! Warrior planet Mars also enters your sign, October 22, which will mean, surprisingly, that people will find you sharp-tongued and aggressive! Mars is the planet of action, so expect a boost in energy. Mars is also the planet of war. You may feel more confrontational than usual! The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23, again illuminating that sector of your chart that rules self-worth and cash. The Sun and lucky Jupiter will meet on October 26, so pay attention to money matters or your self-esteem. I expect you will feel good about yourself, your talents, and what you have to offer. Good vibes will flow, and you'll have a lot to brag about! Lucky numbers 2, 7, 16, 22. Scorpio October 24 - November 22 October opens with both of your planetary rulers, Mars and Pluto, making a harmonious connection with each other—what a wonderful way to start your favorite season: autumn! Mars is in Virgo, bringing you the energy to socialize, while Pluto is in Capricorn, bringing important, even secret, information. Connect with people, Scorpio! Brilliant ideas are born at the start of this month, and a breakthrough in understanding, or communication, arrives. There's also a full moon in Aries on October 5, so expect to be busy. It's Libra season, which means the Sun is occupying the sector of your chart that rules solitude and rest—a time for you to slow down and catch up on sleep before you party during Scorpio season! But this full moon is in active, fiery Aries, so you'll be pulled from your slumber to get shit done. Watch for lies or stressful communication. A secret may be revealed! A hard conversation is likely, but if all parties can avoid head games and big egos, amazing transformations can result. Mercury enters your sign, Scorpio, on October 17, and then meets with Jupiter on October 18, marking a notable time for you to express yourself and speak your truth. Your ruling planet is busy again at the end of this month. Venus clashes with Pluto, and Mercury makes a harmonious connection with Pluto on October 27. On one hand, you'll need to watch for shady and obsessive behavior. (You basically have eyes in the back of your head—you're always on alert—so I think you can manage this!) But help from powerful people, or information that has been hard to access, will come your way, offering assistance. A Scorpio always comes out on top! Lucky numbers 6, 14, 28, 39. Sagittarius November 23 - December 21 Venus meets Mars in Virgo October 5, illuminating the sector of your chart that rules worldly success and your public image. A new cycle is beginning, focused on how you navigate (and negotiate) your career and your reputation. Virgo, a hardworking Earth sign, encourages you to get organized, make lists, and be picky. Since these two planets, Venus and Mars, will meet in this sign, it's wise to invoke the energy, especially when it comes to your career or life in public. You've overcome major setbacks and learned brutal lessons over the last two and a half years. When Saturn enters Capricorn later this year, December 19, you'll begin receiving the payoff. (Literally—Saturn often leaves physical gifts in its wake, and emotionally, you'll be a more capable, stronger version of yourself.) Venus enters charming Air sign Libra on October 14, bringing blessings to your social life. Connect with friends and meet new people. Venus is amazing at helping everyone get along! Mars will also enter Libra October 22, boosting your energy when it comes to socializing. A new moon, in Libra, arrives October 19, introducing you to new friends. The celestial focus shifts to Scorpio as Mercury enters Scorpio on October 17. Mercury meets with Jupiter on October 18, and the Sun enters Scorpio on October 23, which will also meet with Jupiter on October 26. Messenger planet Mercury is perceptive in psychic Scorpio. Pay attention to the messages that arrive in your dreams. Watch for secrets to come to light over the next few weeks; Scorpio adores secrets. Some especially lucky, and unexpected, news arrives when chatty Mercury meets with Jupiter—and again when the Sun meets with Jupiter. Lucky Numbers 3, 15, 31, 34. Capricorn December 22 - January 20 Finding better balance between your professional goals and your home life is the focus of the full moon, in Aries, on October 5. Again, Libra season is all about you finding your place in the world. The full moon will remind you that, if you don't have a comfortable and safe place to sleep—or, emotionally, a strong sense of your boundaries—it won't be easy to get anywhere. Cleanse your home, perhaps by burning some sacred plants. Or do something simple and mundane, like throwing out papers that are causing clutter. Full moons often bring new information to light, and they are times of release. Expect a situation, concerning your home or family, to come to a climax. Mean Saturn loves to say no , but jovial Jupiter loves to say yes . Jupiter shakes things up October 10—when it enters Scorpio! Jupiter is the planet of luck, so blessings may arrive in your social life and in the work you do in your community or in activism. You're a logical, grounded person, my lovely sea goat, and you have razor-sharp intuition. You'll find it coming in

handy mid-month, especially with your career or your life in public. he new moon in Libra on October 19, which will bring a fresh start in your career and your public image. Cast a spell for a promotion, or more followers on social media, or however you measure success. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, so during Scorpio season, Capricorn, spend time thinking about how you want to change the world. It's not easy to do alone, but if you can get the right group of people working together, you can make amazing changes. Lucky numbers: 5, 12, 29, 30. Aquarius January 21 - February 19 October opens with the Sun in fellow Air sign Libra, bringing you opportunities to learn and travel. You get bored easily, Aquarius, but Libra season is sure to be stimulating, especially the full moon, which arrives October 5. This full moon, in Fire sign Aries, will activate the communication sector of your chart, bringing revealing information your way. You have two ruling planets, Aquarius: Saturn and Uranus. Both are busy this month. Venus will square off with Saturn on October 8, soon followed by Mars on October 11. These won't be easy days to get want you want, so don't bother asking. You'll face obstacles, and instead of trying to plead, or beat your way through them, stop and ask yourself about your own boundaries, your maturity level, and your sense of responsibility. Expect revealing information— watch for October 10, when Mercury opposes Uranus, and October 19, when the Sun does, too. News, which will make you want to break free from a confining situation, may arrive. Uranus is the planet of rebellion, so expect conversations that create change. A confrontation, which could lead to an unexpected change of mind, is possible, too. Uranus doesn't care much about fitting in. Similarly, you're never afraid to let your freak flag fly, Aquarius, and this October, you'll surprise people with how shocking you can be, just in case they've forgotten! The new moon in Libra will encourage you to open up to new ideas and philosophies. This is a great time to attend a class, take a trip, or otherwise broaden your view. This new moon is especially helpful if you're travelling abroad or in school. If you're hoping to publish something, or want to promote a project that's important to you, this is a wonderful time (it's a new moon!) to make it happen! Mercury enters Scorpio on October 17, and Scorpio season officially begins, with the Sun entering this psychic Water sign on October 23. Scorpio is perceptive as hell—may as well have x-ray vision. You too, Aquarius, don't miss much, but you'll be especially aware of everything now that communication planet Mercury is in a sign that basically has ESP. Scorpio isn't afraid to talk about things that are uncomfortable. If there's something you've been hesitating to talk about, you'll be encouraged to do so, especially if it relates to your career or your public life. Scorpio season is all about how you relate to the public and focus on your professional goals. How do you want to be seen, Aquarius? What do you want to be remembered for? These are important questions as you head into November Lucky numbers 6, 14, 20, 25. Pisces February 20 - March 20 Welcome to Libra season, Pisces! Libra is the sign of balance and of relationships. Yes, early this month, your partnerships are active! A full moon in Aries arrives October 5, bringing a focus to your finances—your budget and cash flow—plus your sense of security and self-worth. Full moons are times of release and times of crisis. They bring turning points. You'll learn a lot about your relationship to money and how you value your talents. Jupiter enters fellow Water sign Scorpio on October 10. This is a big deal, Pisces, since Jupiter is one of your two ruling planets (Neptune being the other). This last year has found you working through complicated emotional issues, even grieving. Lucky planet Jupiter's entry into Scorpio marks a rebirth, or re-emergence, for you. Expect opportunities to travel to come your way over the next year! Interacting with foreign people, or engaging in a long-distance project or study, is likely, too. (This is an especially lucky time for you if you're in school or applying to programs.) If you're hoping to get something published, Jupiter will help you out! New moons bring fresh starts, and this one will help you let go of the past. Open up to change and transformation—especially in the realms of sex, intimacy, and trust. West Midlands MEP Anthea McIntyre has welcomed Government backing for Birmingham’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

From how the Atherstone and Coleshill Herald reported the new Sumner Road Wednesday market the other week, no one remembers the auctions at the back of the Swan and the Green Man. They stopped in the 1930s. Some of us remember the market at the back of the Swan back in the 80s. That faded away, too. Then Nelson Hollinshead, third generation farmer from Bentley, started the Church Hill Farmers’ Market. It’s still going years later. But judging by comments in the Herald, no one knows. The picture shows a buoyant lunchtime trade on 23 June 2006. The rest of the stalls don’t come now, but 19 Gales’ (http://19gales.co.uk) tasty farm produce is still available every fourth Friday come what may.

Gardening tips for October:

Beautiful Autumn Colours

Now is the time to plant Winter Flowering Pansies.

We have 6 separate colours/ bi colours plus mixed in stock all grown on site and fed with slow release fertiliser. They will flower for up to 9 months. Also available Spring flowering bulbs, polyanthus and violas. Our Christmas shop is now open

By Julie Heenan Orchard Nurseries

for lights , tree decorations, tinsel and baubles, cards, stocking fillers, new potpourri decorations and wreaths, wrap and gift bags. Unusual animal themed China giftware, antique and vintage items.

As we move further into autumn we can't fail to notice the beautiful colours in the leaves of our deciduous trees and shrubs before they fall. These colours are always there but have been obscured by the bright green chlorophyll , However as the trees and shrubs close down in the Autumn the veins that carry the fluids in and out of the leaves close down , the chlorophyll breaks down and as the green fades away the yellow and orange colours are exposed. Some of the best plants for Autumn leaf colour are the Acers, also cornus, Virginia creeper and Cercis.. For Autumn berries choose a red berried cotoneaster , callicarpa with purple berries, pyracantha with either red yellow or orange berries. For flowers in containers and baskets choose the cheerful winter pansies, with violas, bell is, wallflower polyanthus and cyclamen. In the garden Autumn crocus - colchicum, nerine, chrysanthemum , Japanese anemone and sedum.

Artificial wreaths , fresh handmade wreaths available from the end of November along with top quality fresh Christmas trees.

Jobs for September • Cut back dead growth on perennials • Move tender plants inside • Prune climbing roses • Plant new shrubs.

Boxing Show Carl Frampton Faces Horacio Garcia in Belfast Homecoming Carl Frampton MBE will face Mexico’s Horacio Garcia in a ten round Featherweight contest on his highlyanticipated Belfast homecoming at the SSE Arena on Saturday 18th November, live on BT Sport and BoxNation. It will be the three-time World Champion’s first fight in his home city since he successfully defended his IBF Super-Bantamweight crown against American Chris Avalos at the same venue back in February 2015. Frampton went on to create history by becoming the first Northern Irishman to win World Titles in two weight divisions when he defeated Mexican Leo Santa Cruz in an unforgettable battle for the WBA Super Featherweight Championship in New York in July 2016. It was Frampton’s first fight as a professional at Featherweight, having moved up a division after unifying the IBF and WBA Super-Bantamweight titles by outclassing Scott Quigg in Manchester earlier that year.

Garcia, 27, holds a top record of 33 wins from 37 contests; with 24 of those victories coming by way of knockout. Before a surprise loss to Diuhl Olguin, which he quickly avenged, his only career losses had come to two-weight World Champion Hozumi Hasegawa and rising star Joseph Diaz. “This is a fight that really excites me,” said Frampton. “Garcia will definitely come and have a go. He’s a typical Mexican warrior, he’s tough and he’s game and he’ll try and put it on me in front of my home crowd. “He has never been stopped in his career and has only lost to World class opposition, excluding the loss against Olguin. It will be good to get a fight in against a live opponent before I get one of the big boys in the new year. “This fight has been a long time coming and it’s good to be back out in Belfast topping a double World Title bill that also features my good friend Paddy Barnes defending his WBO European title. “It’s a great bill, probably the best bill that Ireland has ever seen, I don’t think people will criticise me too much for saying that. It’s a quality bill and to be topping it is a huge honour.

“I asked for a ten-round fight. I would have been happy to be doing twelve rounds but speaking to my team after the bad year I’ve had and the long layoff they thought it was only fair to come back with a ten rounder before we target the big names.” Promoter Frank Warren said: “Carl is an Irish boxing legend and to be promoting his first fight back in Belfast since creating history is a huge honour. He is a fighting man and asked for a tough opponent on his big return. “Garcia holds a top record and will provide a test for him on November 18th. By the time the fight comes around, Carl will have been out of the ring for over ten months. He has a new trainer, management team and promoter, it is a lot for a fighter to have to deal with but I am expecting to see him back at his best next month. “Once he has got a good fight under his belt we will push on to one of the big boys in the new year and then Windsor Park next summer, which is where we want to be with him, in a massive fight.”

On the same bill, all-action Belfast hero Jamie Conlan finally has a dream World Title shot, he will be challenging tough Filipino Jerwin Ancajas for the IBF World Super-Flyweight belt; WBO Bantamweight World Champion Zolani Tete will be making the first defence of his crown against fellow South African Siboniso Gonya; and the hugely-popular triple Olympian Paddy Barnes makes the first defence of his WBO European Championship. Further exciting additions to an unmissable card will be announced in due course. Tickets for Frampton Reborn will go on sale to the general public at 12 noon on Wednesday 4th October via the SSE Arena Belfast Box Office, www.ssearenabelfast.com and 028 9073 9074. £250 – Hospitality £150 – Floor £120 – Central Tier/Floor £100 – Floor £80 – Tier £50 – Tier £40 – Tier

Jamie Conlan Sparring Brother Michael to Prepare for Jerwin Ancajas All-action Super-Flyweight Jamie Conlan has enlisted the help of his younger brother Michael Conlan to prepare for November 18th. Conlan challenges IBF World Champion Jerwin Ancajas at the SSE Arena in Belfast, on the Carl Frampton undercard, live on BT Sport and BoxNation. "Good tech sparring session with @ jamieconlan11 working on game plans for Nov 18th," Michael wrote on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. Jamie has been fighting tough Mexicans and come-forward boxers, but Ancajas is more varied in his style and is a great mover. So the unbeaten Belfast boxer has recognised the need to change his training methods.

"He is complete opposite to what we are used to," Jamie explained to Irish-Boxing. "The Mexican fighters I have been used to fighting, he is the complete opposite to them. He is fleet footed. He is not an out-and-out gung-ho brawler.. He is a completely different animal." Michael is 4-0 since turning pro with Top Rank, and continues to impress across the pond. The younger Conlan brother is recognised as one of Ireland's greatest ever amateurs and has bags of experience. "One thing Mick can do is adapt to any different style, so he is going to come in and imitate him [Ancajas] over the next two or three weeks," added the 30-year-old. Ancajas defended his IBF crown on the Manny Pacquiao v Jeff Horn card in Brisbane in the

summer and recorded an impressive stoppage win over Teiru Kinoshita. Michael also boxed on the Australian card so Jamie watched on from ringside. "I haven’t met someone like him, but he hasn’t met someone who boxes like me either,” he argued. "I watched him throughout fight week and he was cool, calm, and collected. He took everything in his stride. He didn’t show any real weaknesses or chinks in his armour. “But from the videos I have seen, I have seen some things we can exploit. The majority of his opponents have been southpaws even in his defences since he won the World Title.” Main event on an unmissable evening of action sees three-time World Champion Carl Frampton MBE make his highly-anticipated

Belfast return against Mexican Horacio Garcia; WBO Bantamweight World Champion Zolani Tete makes the first defence of his crown against fellow South African Siboniso Gonya; Dublin rivals Jono Carroll and Declan Geraghty rematch for the IBF European Super-Featherweight title and hugely-popular triple Olympian Paddy Barnes makes the first defence of his WBO European Championship. Further exciting additions to an unmissable card will be announced in due course. Limited remaining tickets for Frampton Reborn are on sale now via the SSE Arena Belfast Box Office, www.ssearenabelfast.com and 028 9073 9074

Frampton Reborn Undercard Additions DAVID OLIVER JOYCE Lightweight 3-0, 2 KO's Joyce has made a thunderous start to his professional career with some eye-catching displays and has the opportunity to showcase his ability on a huge stage. The 2016 Rio Olympian defeated Ivan Godor over six rounds in his last outing, the first time that Joyce has been extended further than the third round since turning professional. "It's a great opportunity." said Joyce. "The atmosphere inside the arena is going to be absolutely incredible and I can't wait to get out there and put on a show. "It was good getting the rounds under my belt. The first two fights ended early, it's always good to get the knockout, but getting the ring time was great experience. I'm always in the gym pushing myself and this fight will be no different. I'm in this sport for World Titles and that's why I push myself to the limit in training every day." LEWIS CROCKER Welterweight 3-0, 3 KO's Crocker has exploded onto the professional scene with a series of hard-hitting displays and is now preparing to deliver another explosive performance at the SSE Arena. Since switching to the professional ranks, Crocker has yet to be extended further than the second round in any of his three contests.

"It's going to be a special night." said Crocker. "Big fight nights are always special in Belfast but this one will be on another level. When Carl Frampton is in action the city is electric and I can't wait to be part of it. "It's been a great start to my career and hopefully it continues. The knockout streak is good to have but I won't be putting any pressure on myself to get the stoppage. I'll be looking to do what I know I can when the bell sounds and if the knockout comes I'll take it." STEVEN WARD Light-Heavyweight 5-0, 2 KO's Ward is looking to continue the winning momentum after making a flawless start to his career. It's another Belfast fight night for the Light-Heavyweight and he's looking forward to making his fifth appearance in his home city. "It's been a great start and I want to keep it going," said Ward. "I've started hurting my opponents in the last couple of fights and it was good to get the stoppages but it's getting the win that counts and I want to keep moving forward and progressing." "It's great having these events in Belfast and the response you get from the fans is unbelievable. Training away from home is tough but it makes it worthwhile when you get the opportunity to fight in front of your own support and it's going to be another great night."

ALEX DICKINSON Heavyweight 2-0, 2 KO's Dickinson is quickly establishing himself as one of the Heavyweight division's most exciting prospects and the Liverpool man is delighted to be a part of the action on November 18th. Two knockouts in his first two appearances have set him up perfectly for the new season and the bighitting powerhouse is excited ahead of his third appearance. "I made my debut in Belfast and it's great to return" said Dickinson. "It was a great atmosphere in June and I'm expecting this one to be even better with Carl Frampton back boxing in the city. "It's all gone perfectly to plan so far and I believe it's going to keep getting better. I'm working hard in the gym every day, working on different things and I'm planning on putting on a show in Belfast. The Heavyweight division is back where it belongs as boxing's most exciting division and I can't wait to force my way into the big fights." GARY CULLY Lightweight 1-0, 1 KO Cully burst onto the professional scene with a destructive first round knockout victory over Gyula Tallosi at the Devenish Complex and is excited to feature on the big stage. An excellent spell in the amateurs has set Cully up perfectly for his professional career and he believes this is the first of many big nights in the future.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be a part of this show." said Cully. "It's going to be an epic night and I can't wait to soak up the atmosphere. Carl Frampton is the type of fighter that inspires you and it's amazing to be a part of the event." "To get the stoppage on my pro debut was the perfect outcome. I wanted to make a big statement and I think I did that with the first round knockout. I believe I'll be a world champion in the future and these are the occasions that you dream about when you decide to put on the gloves." *Opponents will be confirmed in due course* Main event on an unmissable evening of action sees three-time World Champion Carl Frampton MBE make his highly-anticipated Belfast return against Mexican Horacio Garcia; all-action Belfast hero Jamie Conlan gets his long-awaited World Title shot against IBF Super-Flyweight Champion Jerwin Ancajas; WBO Bantamweight World Champion Zolani Tete makes the first defence of his crown against fellow South African Siboniso Gonya; Dublin rivals Jono Carroll and Declan Geraghty rematch for the IBF European Super-Featherweight title and hugely-popular triple Olympian Paddy Barnes makes the first defence of his WBO European Championship. Former Team GB Amateur Standout Harvey Horn Signs with Frank Warren Former Team GB amateur standout Harvey Horn has signed a long-term promotional deal with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren.

Horn, 22, trains out of the famous Peacock Gym in Canning Town under highly-respected coach Mark Tibbs and will start life in the professional ranks campaigning at Flyweight. The East Londoner’s boxing career took off at school after he was put on the Priory School’s Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme. ABA champion in 2014, he continued his progression on the boxing scene in 2015, claiming silver at the European Championships in Bulgaria before representing Team GB at the inaugural European Games in Baku later in the year. “I was part of the Team GB setup for three years and enjoyed a lot of success,” said Horn. “Becoming the European U22 Champion was a highlight during my time there. “I was also part of the World Series of Boxing British Lionhearts team. I had four fights in the WSB and won three of them. “After the disappointment of not being selected for the Team GB Olympic team I felt it was time to start a new chapter in my career.

“It’s a brilliant time to be signing with Frank. I’m really excited to see how the next few years pan out with him guiding me. A graduate of the legendary Repton ABC, Horn is adamant his schooling will hold him in good stead now that he has turned over. “As an amateur I was a counter puncher and point scorer. Now I’m sitting on my shots a lot more and fans will see a lot of flair and entertainment. I have a great shot selection and I’ve got a very good engine as well. “I’m looking at the belts around at Flyweight and I’m putting pressure on myself to do well very quickly. I’m expecting to be jumping around weights to begin with, I’ll fight anyone. “I’ve always been used to testing myself against the best, whether that has been domestically or in the World Series of Boxing. “I expect to do the same now that I have joined the pro ranks. I want to stay active, impress and get my hands on every title I can. “I’m just not interested in building a fake record fighting journeymen, I’m not here to make up numbers.” News on Horn’s professional debut will follow in due course. Ducker Has A Secret Weapon

By Rob Ellis/BCB Promotions Joe Ducker believes he has a secret weapon getting him to the top of his game ahead of his opening test in next week’s BCB’s Midlands Boxing Super Series.

Eight super featherweights have been paired for four six-round bouts when the elimination tournament begins at Walsall Town Hall next Sunday October 15. The competition will play out to a final, with the Midlands title up for grabs, and take place over three separate shows, staged by BCB Promotions. Ducker was present at BCB’s sponsors the Grosvenor Casino Walsall, on Bentley Mill Way, for last month’s draw and was paired with Luke Jones, from Chasetown in Staffordshire. Jones has managed to get a keep-busy contest under his belt

since, outpointing Andy Harris after a four-round outing. Ducker wasn’t at ringside running the rule over his opponent, preferring to focus on his own game. He last saw ring action at the end of June, defeating Joe Beeden over the distance. The 32-year-old gas engineer, from Shepshed in Leicestershire, trains in Derby at the base of father-and-son coaching team Mike and Jay Shinfield. Now Rendall Munroe, the Shinfield’s star graduate and former British, Commonwealth and European champion who challenged for WBC world honours, has joined his camp. He travels to Leicester once a week to work with Munroe, who is retired but still in great shape and now has a boxing and fitness gym on Elizabeth Street. Ducker can see the weight dropping off him but still feels healthy and strong, due to assistance from the city’s top fighter in recent years. “It’s the first time I’ve really been this involved with Rendall and I’m seeing the benefits,” he told bcb-promotions.com. “He’s been up there and you can see why. “He’s got so much knowledge to pass on, it’s the little things that are making a big difference and it needs to, as I’ve never made super feather before. “This is the first time I’ve had any sort of notice, too, so I’ve got no excuse not to be at my best and Rendall is helping me to do that.” Ducker has boxed some prospects over his nine pro outings so far, leading to a chequered record of three wins, four losses and two draws. He’s already completed six rounds and appeared on television, where he was stopped by Conor Benn in round two of just his third pro fight. He’s also been halted by Steve Brogan. Steven Beattie and Jay Hughes outpointed him, but he’s seen off Harvey Hemsley and Joe Beeden over-the-distance himself. His one TKO victory came Jason Sillett in three. Draws came against the most experienced pro in the country, Kristian Laight, and Waqas Mohammed, who is also involved in the Super Series and pitted against Paul Holt. He said: “I’ve never wanted an easy night, I’ll go anywhere and

fight anyone, but I’ve always seem to have been caught late. “I got two days to get ready for Benn and it ended up being at welterweight, so he was far too heavy for me. I don’t regret it, to box on Sky Sports was too good an opportunity to miss. Brogan was at late notice, too, and he got me with a body shot that wouldn’t have stopped me if I’d have been fitter. Beattie and Hughes are both top lads. “I don’t how they called me and Waqas a draw, I think I beat him all day long. It seemed like he couldn’t handle me. “I was gutted, because it was my debut. He hasn’t boxed since and that was over a year ago. He’s up against it with Holt, but I wish him the best of luck.” Ducker insists he knows what to expect from Jones, nearly nine years his junior at 23 with four wins, a draw and a loss on his ledger. He said: “I’ve seen bits of Luke and he’s got nothing I haven’t seen before. I’ll be ready for what he can bring. “He’s a front foot fighter with fast hands who works the body well, but I don’t think he’ll be able to handle my strength coming down in weight. “There’s no one in this that I’m afraid of. I’m not looking past Jones, so I’m not bothered who i get in the semis. I like the look of Josh Baillie, he’s a good operator and he can switch hit.” Apart from Ducker-Jones; unbeaten Indi Sangha replaces former Midlands champion Paul Holt, who this week announced his retirement. Sangha takes on Waqas Mohammed, Josh Baillie takes on Louis Fielding with Manny Zaber tackling Jack Summers. Alex Florence and Dilly Singh also feature. The Town Hall first sees Bloxwich’s Luke Paddock shot at world honours, the IBF Youth lightweight bauble against Adam Hague, the night before the Super Series on October 14. Clayton on the Edge of Something Special Jordan Clayton believes he is on the edge of something special ahead of his eighth professional contest next weekend. The 23-year-old will appear on BCB Promotions’ ‘The World Awaits’ show at Walsall Town Hall, Walsall, on Saturday 14th October. The unbeaten fighter has been promised a massive opportunity if he can put on an impressive performance in Walsall. Clayton, 7-0, is excited to be so close to stepping up in his career and he is determined to show he is ready for the challenge. “This fight will be another stepping stone fight but the one after this could be massive,” he told bcb-promotions.com. “ I have been speaking with (BCB’s Head of Boxing) Errol (Johnson)and we have something big in the pipeline as long as I get the win and look good in this next one. “That gives me massive motivation for this next one knowing something like that is on the horizon if I can put a performance on here. “It is really exciting being so close to that and I can’t wait. Two or three years ago I had lots of issues with my boxing career and my personal life but now I look back and I have already made it to seven wins unbeaten.

“I couldn’t have wished for it to have gone any better and I can’t wait for what else I can achieve going forward in the future.” The Solihull pugilist is full of confidence and he feels everything has fallen into place for him now as he approaches a crucial stage in his career. The super welterweight admits it has been tough managing his training with his work and family life but believes it will all be worth it in the coming months and he is expecting to pit on a show against the durable Nathan Hardy when the pair clash next weekend. “I felt really good in my last fight which gives me even more confidence moving forward. I didn’t lose a round and I bossed him around. I used my boxing ability and made sure I was taking the rounds and looking good doing it without taking the risks. “I know this is going to be a tough fight because all my opponents are. I haven’t faced anyone that has come to just get walked over and bow down to me. “I don’t look past anyone and I certainly can’t look past this next one with something big being within touching distance. “Everything is on top now and going how it should be. I am happy with my camp and my

training and my personal life away from boxing so everything is now in place. “I have just started now to believe in myself 100%.In the past the belief wasn’t there and I was just grinding it out. “Now I can see where I am going and I know what I have to do to get there so hopefully everything will go well in this one and I can get the title that we are looking for by the end of the year hopefully. “We have been training like animals. Everything has been stepped up for this one. When I do these six rounds I will set a fast pace and make the most of every second and I will be surprised if whoever my opponent is manages to still be there at the end of the fight. “My business at the skip hire is going really well and I am flat out with that too so it is tough. I am up at 6 in the morning and getting my run in before going to work. I do the removals myself which is like a workout in itself doing that. “Then I come home and have an hour or two to see the kids before heading to the gym for the night then. It is hard and I moan about it a lot to my missus but like she says it will all pay off in the end, especially if I get the big opportunity after this fight.

“If I get the business done in this next one it should open up all the doors for me and it will be all go, there will be no turning back.” Walsall’s Luke Paddock challenges Glossop’s Adam Hague for the IBF Youth Lightweight Title at the top of the bill. Redditch middleweight, Andrew Robinson, Tipton light heavyweight, Ricky Summers, Birmingham heavyweight, Nathan Stevens, Tividale welterweight, Ryan ‘Stewart’ Davies, Camerron Switz light heavyweight, Emmanuel Moussinga, and Birmingham bantamweight, Ijaz Ahmed, all feature on the undercard. The show takes place 24 hours before BCB’s Midlands Boxing Super Series, also at the Town Hall, which sees 8 local super featherweights meets for a shot at the Midlands Area Super Featherweight Title. Tickets for ‘the World Awaits’ are priced at £35 general admission (£40 on the door) and £60 (VIP Ringside to include buffet and waitress service), and can be purchased by calling 0845 111 2900.
