• Developer at Daw Mill is appealing • If successful, thousands of HGV’s and cars will be directed to use Church Hill • The community has to fight this appeal alongside the Borough Council
FRONT PAGE STORY We are again threatened with havoc and destruction as developers launch an appeal to build an industrial estate at Daw Mill. This will see thousands of extra HGV's and cars travelling through the town.
Coleshill Town Council, the Civic Society and Over Whitacre Parish Council have formed an alliance with the local resident’s action group (LAWRAG) in a last ditch attempt to stop the mayhem. The owner of the former Daw Mill Colliery, Harworth Estates, has appealed against the planning refusal issued by the Borough Council and a planning inquiry will take place in February. Harworth Estates are still trying to develop industry in the green belt at Daw Mill and are using their financial might and the prospect of huge financial gain to appeal against the decision of our Borough Council to refuse permission. The plans include directing traffic up Church Hill and removing the no-right turn on to the High Street. The appeal is to be heard on 21st Feb in Atherstone and is scheduled to last for 8 days. LAWRAG jointly with Over Whitacre Parish Council have obtained Rule 6 status. They therefore now have equal status with Harworth Estates and are able to employ a barrister and consultants to represent the views of our community. This was necessary as crucial elements could not otherwise have been brought to the attention of the Planning Inspector. Regrettably the County Council as Highway Authority raised no objection to the planning application and the Borough Council is therefore not able to include the devastating effect on our country roads and Coleshill as a reason for refusal. The developer supported by our County Council
• But we need funds to do that • We’re over half way towards our goal • Now we need your support to stop these devastating proposals • Can you help? Could you donate? Every little helps!
will tell the inspector that signposting to direct traffic to use Church Hill and the High Street will relieve pressure on the already inadequate nightmare of the Green Man crossroads. It is therefore left to the local action group and the Parish Council with the help of our community to ensure the planning inspector is made aware of the true highway and environmental impacts. A barrister and transport consultant have been selected and as a result of advice received, confidence of success is high but funding for this professional representation is now required and that’s where you come in! We need to raise around £30,000 to cover legal costs. We have already received a £15,000 donation from Coleshill Town Council, and a donation from Over Whitacre Parish Council but we still have some way to go! Philip Mason, Chaiman of Over Whitacre Parish Council, commented, "We need to raise £30,000 in order to present these critical points at the enquiry. To date we have received an unbelievable commitment from Coleshill Town Council of £15,000, £500 from Nether Whitacre Parish Council, and my own Council have pledged £2500. Clearly we are well on our way but I would urgently appeal on everyone to show their solidarity and make our target achievable."
CAN YOU HELP? Donate by cheque (payable to the Daw Mill Appeal Fund) or cash at Coleshill Town Hall between 9am and 1pm (letterbox available outside of these times) Go online to lawrag.wordpress.com for information for details on how to donate online or by other means.

A&E and Maternity Ward to close at George Eliot Hospital Secret plans to cut NHS services in North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth have been leaked to local media.
The plans, part of the Conservative Government’s cuts of £22 billion to the NHS would see the Accident and Emergency close at George Eliot, the maternity ward shut down, stroke care moved to Coventry and surgery times restricted. The secretive plans have been met with disgust by local Labour Group Leader, Cllr Adam Farrell. Cllr Farrell said; “This is terrible news for local people. These secret plans drawn up by pen pushers because of decisions by Conservative politicians are a complete disgrace. We are told the NHS faces no cuts from Government but this is just untrue. This hospital is a vital local service for residents in the north of Warwickshire. I have a young son who at just 6 weeks old needed emergency care at hospital. We rang 101, secured an out of hours’ appointment at the George Eliot and without their quick thinking and expertise, things could have been very different. It just isn’t acceptable to have people travelling over to University Hospital in Coventry for emergency treatment or to give Birth. It is over 30 minutes away from some parts of North Warwickshire which is a long time if you’re in pain. We were told during the General Election that the Conservative MP for this area would ensure the hospital was ‘never mismanaged again’. His
party now plan to close most of it down, it’s an absolute disgrace. Mr. Tracey should be ashamed of himself for letting local people down. The Labour Party stands with the people of this area, supports our right to a local hospital and will campaign against these Conservative plans to close our local hospital.” In a statement the local STP Board commented: “The STP board can confirm that plans for a single A & E and Maternity Unit for Coventry and Warwickshire have not been discussed or agreed as part of the STP planning process. No decisions have been made for the future of A & E or Maternity Services at the George Eliot Hospital. “The publication of the STP on 6 December will be the start of the process where we will develop plans in partnership with our staff and the local community. No changes will be made to any service without full engagement with public and staff. “The STP plans are not about hospitals closing. It is about designing services differently with the resources that we have and focusing on preventing physical and mental ill health. The joint vision across health and social care is to work together to deliver high quality care which supports our communities to live well, stay independent and enjoy life.” You can sign the petition against these plans online today at northwarkslabour.co.uk/saveGE
The Annie and Tom Story Here follows a part of the Annie and Tom story for which we retain the copyright but will gladly allow same to be used in an article published by the Coleshill Post.
Parkfield Road in Coleshill was the terminus for the 161 & 168 services, and truly, for the crews awaiting time, it could be a cold and lonely place on a dark winter’s night. There was no cafe, so for twenty minutes or so it was a case of sitting in the cold on the long seat at the back of the bus chatting to the conductor. But, for a while up until the late 1960’s there was a little island of warmth and comfort that welcomed all the Midland Red crews. It was a simple cottage next to the terminus and known to us all as ‘Annie and Tom’s.’ Tom was an ex soldier who had served in the First
World War and, we understand met his wife, Annie whilst serving in Belgium. Now in their old age, they lived in the little cottage and were happy to welcome the bus crews into their tiny living room. There in front of a roaring open fire, with chairs arranged around an old oak table, Annie would serve mugs of steaming hot tea and various types of iced cakes and buns, placed on the table for us to help ourselves to. We remember sitting at their table on many occasions and the happy banter with Tom as Annie poured the endless mugs of tea. For all this, Annie made no charge and in fact needed a lot of persuasion to accept even the bare minimum to cover the cost of the cakes. Overseeing all this would be Tom ensconced by the fire in his favourite chair and only too happy to engage in chit chat and friendly banter
with the busmen and women who were so grateful to Annie and Tom. But, it seems that eventually, someone, somewhere took a dislike to what was ‘going on’, as a visit from (it was generally believed) a council official brought a sudden end to Annie and Tom’s acts of benevolence. We never saw them again after that but others crews who did manage to speak with them related how very upset and distraught were by what had happened. Annie and Tom made no profit by their kindness nor was there any noise or nuisance caused to anyone. It is our sincere wish that Annie and Tom are at peace and just maybe; they still have the opportunity to yarn about the old days in Coleshill and Parkfield Road with some of the Midland Red crews who by now will have also joined them.

Town & Borough Councillor Coleshill North

REGULAR COLUMN
It’s a busy time of year for us all. Some of us dread it, some of us love it but one thing is for sure, our High Street relies on it. Christmas and the weeks leading up to it, provide retailers, particularly independent shops, with the chance to increase their income and seek to make up for the ‘quieter’ periods in the year. In our town, the majority of people I speak to say we need to keep our High Street but when I walk up and down it at the weekends, I often see an almost empty street. If we don’t support our High Street shops, the High Street won’t exist in its current form for much longer. There isn’t a simple solution to making our High Street a bustling little shopping area but if we don’t all work together to do something, it will be too late and we’ll have lost our High Street forever. Some progress is being made with some new retailers joining the High Street over the last couple of years, improvements to some of the Council
owned land and the creation of Love Coleshill. We do though, need to do more. Local authorities need to take a lead and I think Coleshill Town Council needs to be at the forefront of that campaign. We need to deal with parking, we need to look again at how traffic moves around the town, at the business rates and rents the Borough Council charges and at the lack of a regular market in our market town amongst many other things. The first thing we need to do though is to use our High Street so when you’re thinking of buying gifts this year, think about the High Street and how you could help support it. Every pound spent locally is worth so much more to our town than every pound spent in other shopping areas or at retail parks. So let me take this early opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and remember to shop local when you can this year.
Trajan Hill development plans approval met with anger Plans to build 24 new homes on Trajan Hill in Coleshill have been met with disappointment and anger.
Local Borough Councillors, Adam Farrell and Dom Ferro said; “We are extremely disappointed to inform you that North Warwickshire Borough Council has approved plans to build 24 new homes on land off Trajan Hill known locally as ‘The Sandies’. We supported local residents in opposing the development because of our deep concerns about the traffic and disruption that would be caused, particularly during the construction phase. All Labour Councillors voted against the plans but unfortunately all 8 Conservative Councillors on the Planning Committee voted in favour of the plans including Coleshill Councillor Mark Jones. These plans will see over 3000 HGV, van and car movements using Temple Way and Trajan Hill for the 9-month construction phase. It will also mean an extra 50-60 cars using the estate once the houses are occupied. The plans include no ‘affordable homes’ and therefore offer no benefit to local people, only disruption for many months. We tried to work with the developer and the Council to mitigate the impacts of this development and we have been partially successful. Delivery and working hours will be restricted, material used to fill in the huge hole on the site will be inspected and there will be a short term temporary access from the A446 to deliver some material to site."
Borouch councillor for Coleshill South, Mark Jones commented on a facebook group: "Dear Residents, I have watched and monitored with dismay some of the comments that have been on the B46 forum in respect of the planning application at Trajan Hill. I DO UNDERSTAND the passion of some of the residents and do understand it is where you live and it matters a lot to you. It matters to me as well. The decision to vote for the application was not taken by any of us that voted lightly . I personally stand by my decision and maintain that it is in the best interests of the residents and if we had refused it we would only have had the danger of it being passed on appeal WITHOUT conditions. The discussions on the forum continue and facts which are untrue continue. I have decided not to get involved in a point scoring session so will not discuss this subject at all on it, I think that’s not what people want. HOWEVER, I have a surgery on 31st December and I would invite anyone who wishes to attend that surgery to attend it and I will give every one of them a personal explanation of my decision and answer any questions they wish. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend then please let me know and we can arrange either a home visit or a meeting elsewhere at another time to suit you. I think this is fair and allows all of you the ability to ask me whatever you wish in respect of the Trajan Hill planning application face to face. To book an appointment please email me at markjones@northwarks.gov.uk"

Searching for relatives of Oliver Randle
By Stephanie Clenton
Introducing the limited edition ghd V copper luxe professional styler. Featuring advanced ceramic heat technology for sleek and smooth everyday styles with enhanced shine. Each gift set includes limited edition NAILS INC® polish and copper luxe heat-resistant bag.
My great uncle, Oliver Jephcott Randle, pictured here, was killed a century ago on November 18th 1916 in WW1.
I would like to meet any relatives of the Randle family left in Coleshill.
Oliver was born in 1890, the 7th of 9 surviving children of Frederick and MaryAnn Randle (nee Jephcott), He was born in Great Wolford in the Cotswolds, where his father Fred, was a Policeman. He was a dearly loved brother tomy Grandmother, Frances Helena Farley, (nee Randle). The family moved to 34, High street Coleshill when Fred was promoted to sergeant in Coleshill. After attending the Parochial School, Oliver, and his brother Arthur completed a 7 year apprenticeship as a printer to the then named 'Coleshill Chronicle' in Church Hill. Oliver chose to become a Policeman, like his father, and joined the Coventry Police Force. WW1 began and he
was able to jointhe 10th Battlion Royal Warwicks 16635, as a Lance Corporal. He was killed in action at the Battle of Grandecourt, and his name is on the Thiepval Memorial in France, which I have been able to visit. When Fred Randle retired from the Police Force they moved to the house next door to the Red Lion Inn, 13 Coventry Rd, and Fred became the groundsman to Coleshill Cricket Club. As Oliver's Great Niece I am so very proud of him for being prepared to sacrifice his life, allowing future generations the freedom we now enjoy. Please contact editor@thecoleshillpost.co.uk if you can help.

By Mike Walpole The team setting up Coleshill Parish Church’s community allotment has had an early Christmas present thanks to Southfields Farm’s John Plumb.
The team running the site, rented from the Town Council by the Parish Church, were expecting
weeks of spade and fork work to get the plot ready before winter sets in. With the job done by John in an hour with a Case JXU105, 105 horsepower tractor pulling a rotavator, the team can now plan how to turn the plot into a site which can benefit the whole community in lots of ways and what to grow come Spring. Producing food, perhaps for
community meals and food packages for housebound, the elderly or vulnerable, is another of the objectives. Part of the plot will be roped off so children can have fun discovering nature in their own area: or just get muddy. The project is already bringing people together in working the plot, regardless of age or physical ability.

Woodlands is a school for pupils aged 2 - 19 with a broad spectrum of special needs, and has attended the day out at Drayton Manor Park for many years. “It is the highlight of the school calendar for our secondary pupils” said Laura Hyatt, Woodlands Deputy Head. “Every time we have been, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of all who fund this event which gives our pupils a day of pure fun and enjoyment.” Children’s charity KidsOut works in partnership with over 600 Rotary Clubs across the UK to make the national day out happen on the second Wednesday of June every year. 2016 has been a record year with over 29,000 children in attendance at 145 venues, taking the total number of children enjoying the day out to 580,000 since 2007. After the day out, children are invited to draw a picture of their day for the competition, with the shortlist then narrowed down by voting on social media. Drawn by Kieran Plummer, 16, the winning picture shows the G Force ride at Drayton Manor Theme Park in intricate detail. Kieran’s fantastic drawing has enabled Woodlands to receive enough Odeon cinema tickets for the whole school to enjoy a visit to the cinema. “We are delighted with our prize of cinema tickets for the whole school. Many of our pupils
do not get the opportunity to enjoy cinema visits outside of school, so this will mean they can all have the enjoyment of watching a film with their school friends” said Hyatt. “Kieran is one of our most talented and enthusiastic artists. He keeps his drawings in a binder and proudly shares them with his friends. Hoping one day to work as a tattoo artist, Kieran sketches designs and ideas for future reference. Winning this prize has been a huge accolade for him, as well as for Woodlands School.” Kieran’s picture was chosen as winner from the shortlist by Steve Cartwright, Rotary KidsOut National Coordinator. Cartwright said: “The winning picture for me typifies what the National Rotary KidsOut Day means to a child, and represents a flavour of the many thank-you letters and pictures sent by children and schools every year following their day out. “The amount of detail in the picture underlines the enjoyment, excitement which serves to inspire us to ensure we continue with the National Rotary KidsOut Day. Let’s have another record breaking year in 2017!” The success of the National Rotary KidsOut Day would not be possible without the help and support from the management and staff at the various venues, including Drayton Manor who this year closed the park to the public for the day and welcomed 5,000 children. KidsOut is the national children’s charity which works to bring fun and happiness into the lives of disadvantaged children. Find out more about KidsOut and the work that they do at www.kidsout.org.uk
Beavers raise much needed fubds for Scout Hut extension Don’t worry if you saw some turquoise ninja’s the other weekend at Morrisons in Coleshill, we were not being invaded by ninjas but it was FIllongley Beavers raising money to extend our Scout hut.
On Saturday and Sunday the Fillongley Beaver groups worked very hard to help locals to pack their bags to raise funds and to advertise our Scout group. We raised £600 and would like to thank Morrisons and the people of Coleshill for their support. We would particularly like to thank Mrs Margaret Taylor who donated her Scouting woggles to our group. We are a rapidly expanding Scout group who run a number of exciting groups each week sharing with our local youngsters the fun of the Scouting movement. From the age of 14 years our Scouts are also supported to complete their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to open up their world to new interests, friends, talents and fun. Our groups include -Beavers (6-8 years) – Tuesdays or Wednesdays; Cubs (8-10.5
years) Wednesdays or Thursdays; Scouts (10.5-14 years) Tuesdays; Explorer Scouts (14-18 years) Thursdays If you have a boy or girl aged 6 years + who would like to join in the fun making armpit fudge, learning survival skills or playing lots of games then get in touch. Give your child the gift of confidence to believe that anything is possible. Or maybe you could offer to share your skills with our youngsters? We are always looking for adults to support our youngsters to follow their dreams. So if you would like to join us please also get in touch as we would love to have you along for the fun. The Coleshill Post
By Sukhy Nijar
Director of Sipsey Lingerie
Gentlemen, how to shop for your lady We’re now into December, with our Gents Evening getting ever closer. Buying gifts for your other half can often be more difficult than finding a needle in a haystack but that’s why you have us here to help. We thought it’s time to let you in on the secret to buying a perfect gift for your lady, we promise it’s not as complicated as you think. Women are a lot simpler than we seem, all we really want is food, attention and pretty things, mainly in the form of something we can wear. But what to get for us? Know Her Size Well, this would save you a lot of time
when shopping for your lovely lady, especially when buying lingerie. Make sure you know what her size is before going on hunt for something she’d like to wear, if you’re unsure, take a quick sneak peak in her lingerie drawer! – Obviously try and be subtle about it, you know, to make sure her gifts stay a surprise and all. Know Her Taste If knowing her size is the most important factor in gift buying, knowing what she likes is equally as important. The last thing you want to do is take home something which will spend the rest of its days lying around at the back of the wardrobe or bottom of the lingerie drawer. Women won’t wear what
they don’t like, so make sure you know what her taste is i.e. favourite colour, prints, lace or silk or simple cotton. Know Her Wants Lastly, once you’ve got size & taste memorised, find out what she actually wants! Maybe she’d like a new pair of pyjamas to lounge in, or perhaps she wants to feel sexy in some new silk slips. Get her to create a wish-list if you’re struggling or send her in to us and we'll get her fitted! – guessing isn’t a good idea if your sofa isn’t comfortable. Don’t worry gentlemen, we’ve got you. Whatever it is your significant other desires, we’re here to help. Don’t forget to RSVP for our Gents Evening!
December is finally here and it's already been a busy one! As you all know, Small Business Saturday fell on December 3rd and Sipsey was chosen as one of the Small Biz 100 independent retailers this year, as a result, Sukhy was invited to a special Small Business Saturday event - with Sipsey as her plus one - at No.10 Downing Street!
Although sadly she didn't get to meet the PM, she did get to showcase Sipsey Lingerie inside No.10 alongside some other great independent retailers in a brilliant effort to highlight the importance of supporting small businesses in the UK. With Christmas just around the corner, I'm sure everybody's started writing their wish lists for Santa, well keep them ready & perhaps give your partners a peek, just incase we have something you're asking for; comfy loungewear for long winter nights, a new swimsuit for your winter getaway or a set of new lingerie just because. Make a list, give it to your partner & send him over to our Sipsey Gents Evening, 13th December where he can find you just what you want! (RSVP to info@sipseylingerie.com if you're interested in attending We look forward to seeing you soon!

Discover a festive welcome A Macmillan Coffee morning was held on Friday September 30th in the Coleshill United Church. This coffee morning was formed by an amalgamation of three long standing events, Mrs C Brown and Mrs G Tyers had been holding coffee mornings for Macmillan for many years in their homes. Due to the passage of years they decided to combine with the other long standing event held at Coleshill United Church and there was a continuous stream of people all morning. Helpers were kept busy serving teas, coffee and cakes. There was a large raffle, a tombola stall, pluck a duck and bric a brac. The atmosphere at the event was very friendly and a grand total of £820.60 was raised for 2016. This would not have been possible without their willing band of helpers who willingly gave their time before and after the get together. The organisers added: "We do have a Coffee Morning every Friday morning but the last Friday in September is the day when we support MacMillan Nurses who support people and families who are suffering from cancer. Every pound raised helps make sure that no one faces cancer alone in Warwickshire and across the UK. Once again thank you for coming, thank you to all the people and businesses who
donated gifts and thank you to all who gave their time, we could not have done it without you." Elsewhere in Coleshill Christian Aid man-

Council helps boost Business Education in School
Warwickshire schools and businesses encouraged to work together to boost employability of young people
Members of staff, sixth form students of The Coleshill School and founders of the B46 Business Network gather for a meeting following the successful awarding of the Build a Business grant.
Following a recent Ofsted report calling for more to be done to promote "enterprise education" in schools and increase business understanding among pupils, schools in Warwickshire could already be ahead of the curve, thanks to a bit of help from Warwickshire County Council.

Schools in the region have so far received funding totalling nearly £69,000 under a scheme to develop business networks and improve the employability skills of young people and increase job opportunities. Launched in June this year, the Build a Business Network scheme provides grants of up to £3,000 to schools to establish a network with local businesses. The funding is enabling schools to commission an organisation such as the Chamber of Commerce to create and facilitate the network between schools and local firms. The aim of the initiative is to improve the employability of school leavers by providing activities with local businesses such as work-tasters, careers fairs, and recruitment opportunities. 23 schools across the county have so far received grants including: The Coleshill School, Coleshill: The £3,000 grant has enabled the school to work with ‘B46’ - an independent networking group for businesses based in the B46 postcode that looks to make the most of the expertise and opportunities available locally. Some of the aims of B46 include: building profitable relationships and harnessing local talent, networking to cultivate leads and promote growth, accessing business advice and support. B46 will provide The Coleshill School with a range of activities and events to enhance the employability skills of students, particularly those pupils not planning to go into higher education. Some of the events will include: mini-networking sessions, presentation and communication skills training, business introduction workshops and mock interviews. The Coleshill School Headteacher, Ian Smith-Childs said: “We’re thrilled to be further developing links with local businesses and are very grateful to be able to secure the ongoing and excellent support of the B46 network group. The links we are able to build with local businesses will be invaluable to our students and the planned activities will help our students develop vital employability skills and support their life-long learning.” North Leamington School, Leamington-Spa: The £3,000 grant has enabled the school to commission Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce to establish a network of 25 businesses from different sectors in the area. This will facilitate a programme of careers and employability support to the school - via the Chamber’s Young Chamber membership - such as talks, visits and mentoring for students. The initiative will also provide the school with up to date labour market information, important local
business contacts, and insights into areas of employment growth. North Leamington School Headteacher, Joy Mitchell said “I’m delighted about receiving this funding as it will give a real boost to the work we have been doing to prepare our students for the world of work. We recognise the importance of preparing our students for life beyond school and want to make sure all our students leave fully equipped with the skills they need to be highly rated employers, or employees of the future.” Lawrence Sheriff School, Rugby: The £3,000 grant has enabled the school to commission Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce to establish a network of local businesses which will facilitate a programme of careers and employability support to the school, via the Chamber’s Young Chamber membership. Through the initiative students will gain valuable experience about the working world in various industries through meeting employers and apprentices alike. Lawrence Sheriff School Headteacher Dr Peter Kent commented: “It’s vital that schools prepare their pupils for the world of work. Without the funding, finding the right businesses to interact with us would have been more challenging and time consuming. By working with the Chamber, this process is made much smoother and easier, enabling us to work with a range of suitable local businesses. As a result, the grant will make an invaluable contribution to preparing our students for the challenges of the future. “ The Build a Business Network is funded through Warwickshire County Council’s Skills for Employment programme. Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Cllr Izzi Seccombe, said: “The Build a Business Network has been designed to stimulate economic growth via schools, skills and employment. The grant was created in response to feedback from schools and businesses who told us they would appreciate opportunities for greater collaboration in a mutually beneficial way. Creating closer links between the two will help students gain valuable job skills, while employers will benefit from a valuable future recruitment channel.” Cllr Philip Johnson, Chair of the council’s Communities Overview and Scrutiny, said: “We want to encourage more working between businesses and schools - this will help more pupils acquire the skills they need to be workforce ready. The Build a Business Network will also help inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs to give business a go.” With budget committed until 2018, the Skills for Employment programme aims to bring together the business world, education and training to enable young people to enter the workplace with the requisite skills. Tom Wilson, former Headteacher, Sue Wallace, Mayor of Coleshill, Ian Smith-Childs, Headteacher and Sixth Form Students.
News Ln Local www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk On 11th November The Coleshill School held its annual Remembrance Service to commemorate former students of the school who lost their lives in active service. In front of a packed Hall of students and visitors, Sixth Form students proudly read out the names of 27 ‘old boys’ from the first world war, 9 from the second world war and Jamie Munday who was killed in Afghanistan in 2008. Stephen Fagg played the
last post which was followed by a minute’s silence. Tom Wilson, Headmaster of Coleshill Grammar School from 1956 to 1982 attended the service. Tom, a former RAF officer and navigator, helped the escape from a prison camp in the Second World War. He has written his wartime memoirs in a book called ‘In The Shadow of the Wooden Horse’. When Tom was Headmaster he commissioned a plaque listing all the names of the ‘lost boys’ of Coleshill School and this has remained in its original place
in the hall ever since, along with the additional plaque for Jamie Munday. Mr Smith-Childs, Headteacher said “I would like to thank all our students, staff and visitors including, Tom Wilson and Sue Wallace, Mayor of Coleshill, for attending our Remembrance ceremony. This is an important even for the school and I am so proud of the number of students who voluntarily attended the Remembrance Service and were so respectful today to commemorate our lost boys”.

A thank you message from County Councillor Peter Fowler Dear Editor, I would like to thank the Head Teacher Mrs Hughes, staff, parents and especially the pupils at High Meadow Infant School for their best wishes and the fabulous gifts that were presented to me
at the Harvest Festival, following my retirement after 31 years as both a Governor and more recently as Chairman of Governors at the school.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school and leave with many
happy memories. May I wish Mrs Hughes and all her staff, pupils and parents all the very best for the future and I hope they all have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Councillor Peter Fowler.

Following the success of their first photobook, Water Orton 2015, Paul and Julie Chiswick have published a photobook titled Coleshill 2016. Coleshill has changed dramatically since the days when it was a major staging post on the coaching roads from London to Chester, Liverpool and Holyhead. Much of the lower part of High Street has disappeared, as has a large area of Church Hill. In the past 30 years alone the town has wit-

What we eat contributes largely to our health and wellbeing and it's the same for our pets
Created by Tracey Clarke of Water Orton
By Natasha Stone We all know that eating junk food on a daily basis is bad for us so why do so many of us end up feeding our pets a poor quality diet that equates to junk food?
NEW POOL NOW OPEN Canine Hydrotherapy Rehabilitation
Unfortunately many of the big popular brands are very good at convincing us that their food is the best for our dog. They use fancy adverts and carefully selected wording to trick us into buying their product. They hope that we won't question them and look at the ingredients. When you selected your dogs food what made you choose that one over all the others on the market? Was it the advertising, packaging, the price or ingredients? Many people have said that they won't choose a premium brand because they cost too much. Would you believe me
if I told you that yes to buy the bag of premium food it does cost more but on a daily basis would cost the same if not less than the cheaper brand? You need to feed less of the quality food than you do the cheaper food to get the dog to consume the nutrients it requires to stay healthy. What is the main ingredient you would expect a dog to eat? If you said meat then you are right, a dogs diet should consist mainly of meat. How would you feel if I told you that a majority of the cheaper brands and even some of the expensive brands consist mainly of fillers such as grain, maize, wheat and rice. Research has found that dogs actually don't require any carbohydrates in order to live a healthy life. This means that a diet consisting mainly of carbs is totally unnecessary. What they require is a diet made up
of mainly meat. So what ingredients should you be staying away from? Animal derivatives- this is a vague term for animal proteins and can be comprised of any animal and it can also be from any part of an animal and the cheaper the food the more likely it will be the undesirable parts that aren't used for human consumption. Cereals- these include wheat, rice, oats, barley and maize etc. These are used as a cheap filler and can be the cause of many skin and digestive allergies that dogs can suffer from. Artificial colourings, preservatives and antioxidants can cause behavioural problems in animals just like they can in children. Many of the premium brands use natural ingredients to preserve the food and add antioxidant properties, these are much safer and more beneficial for your dogs health. There are many many other good and bad ingredients that go into dog food and it is quick interesting to research them. So next time your in a pet store or supermarket stop and take a few minutes to look at and compare the ingredients and treat your dog to the best food you can afford and see if you can see the difference in your dogs health and condition. It also showed that 59 per cent said freeing up brownfield sites would be the main thing government could do to encourage more affordable housing, and 33 per cent said the government should force developers to use land that is currently being land-banked. However, the proposed RICS policy would make a clear distinction between bone fide developers who need a certain amount of land in their development pipeline, and the far fewer number of speculators who are sitting on land only to sell on at a profit. To make this difference clear in policy terms RICS is recommending owners should develop the land within two to three years of receiving permission to build, or sell to those willing and capable to build on it. Reflections of a Divorce Lawyer and Family Mediator
In amongst all the excitement of the introduction of “Buster the Boxer” and the bombardment of Christmas adverts, it may be easy to overlook “Good Divorce Week ”, between 28th November & 2nd December 2016. Many will wonder, is there really such a thing?
As the world recently came to terms with the news that Brangelina are no more, the media spotlight returned on all issues arising surrounding separation. As I listened to
the media outpourings of some truly dreadful experiences people have been through, it reminded me why I’m glad to also practice as a Collaborative Family Lawyer and Accredited Family Mediator, able to undertake Direct Child Consultation where appropriate. By doing so I am able to promote and encourage solutions that consider the needs of the whole family and in particular the best interests of children. Everyone knows a friend or family member who has been “scarred” by a painful family breakdown, the subsequent damage, both emotional, financial and at times physical, which can unfold in the midst of heightened emotions. But the good news is , it really doesn’t have to be like that. “Good Divorce Week” aims to raise the profile where circumstances fit to use alternative methods to court. So Why Keep it Out of Court?
It may be entirely appropriate for a case to be taken through the courts to ensure a child’s welfare is safeguarded or to prevent financial assets being disposed of, but all too often the Courts are seen as the first place to turn , rather than exploring alternative options first. With the court system under unprecedented pressure due to the wide scale removal of legal aid and impact of austerity, court proceedings can be very lengthy, expensive and leave both participants feeling disillusioned and upset. That’s before counting the emotional impact upon people who often need to be able to continue to co-parent their children for years to come. Of course it is a way of bringing closure and imposing outcomes where no agreement can be reached , but surely there must be a better way? Over the years family law has
evolved significantly, with a sea change of the attitudes of the majority of specialist family lawyers and professionals practising in this area. On the whole, family lawyers now focus on supporting and helping people and their families find family focussed solution to their problems. Collaborative Law enables families to come around the table to explore all issues with the support of their specially trained Collaborative Lawyers and such other professionals as may be appropriate to work for the whole family. An end to difficult lawyers letters being sent and no delays. Instead face to face communication. It may not be cheaper but can be much quicker and emotionally help people to reopen communication channels. Alternatively, people may prefer working together with the benefit of a trained Mediator to work through solutions that work for their family.
Mediation gives people a constructive opportunity to communicate to explore all options available. Where appropriate, Mediation can prove significantly cheaper and significantly can ensure the voice of a child is heard when important decisions are being taken effecting their future. So, if you, any family members or friends are considering separation or indeed have already separated, remember there is such a thing as a “good divorce” Karen Beevers is a Partner at Evans Derry Solicitors having practised in family law for over 18 years. She is a Collaborative Family Solicitor and Accredited Mediator qualified to undertake Direct Child Consultation. If you have any questions or queries, please get in touch on 01675 464 400, or Karenbeevers@evansderry.com
Top 100 Most Inspiring Individual, Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, Most Innovative UK leader 2016: We speak to top local businessman Paul Cadman and get his views on the issues currently faced in the manufacturing sector in the Midlands There are some obvious ones like Brexit, skills and transport, and some other issues that are less apparent such as the Combined Authority, Industrial Strategy and rebalancing the UK economy. What are your views on Brexit?
We recently interviewed top manufacturer Paul Cadman on some of the issues currently facing manufacturing and how they may impact on businesses in the Midlands area.
Paul has received a number of accolades including one of Manufacturing Magazine's Top 100 most inspiring and influential individuals in Manufacturing; finalist in EY's Entrepreneur of the Year, 2016; West Midlands Business Masters Manufacturer of the Year, 2016; and Acquisition International's Most Innovative UK Leader for 2016. Paul has been a spokesperson on manufacturing for the region’s Chambers of Commerce. What are the big issues facing manufacturing at the moment?
The public has spoken and their wish has to be acted upon. However, we do seem to be making a meal of the process of exiting. I understand that negotiations will be complex but we seem to be fixated on Government leading the way rather than increasing our exports to new world markets. A reduction in sterling means that our products are more attractive so instead of feuding with the EU why aren’t we unleashing the potential of the world’s best manufacturers into the global marketplace. Once foreign businesses find out how our goods and services are, they will put pressure on their own governments to come up with mutually beneficial trade deals. You mentioned skills and transport: what are the issues facing manufacturing? We have about 5% unemployment at the moment so it means those who are not currently working, are not likely to have the skills businesses need now. Putting aside the issue about zero hours contracts and terms
and conditions in general, there is no slack in the system. Employers are totally reliant on school leavers and college or university graduates. One of the local Chambers of Commerce did a survey that showed that 72% of businesses owners thought that school leavers were not fit for work. For college leavers it was 34% and graduates 37%. Whatever we are teaching in schools, colleges and universities, it is not matching with what employers need, and need now. We really need to look at the how we give targets to education because passing tests is not doing anything to help the employability of our young people. Now we are stuck in the situation that Brexit may cut the free flow of talent from the EU and the Home Office require that we must pay non-EU workers a minimum of £35,000 a year. I am all in favour of giving local talent a priority but we now have a situation where growing businesses cannot find the talent they need to fulfil existing contracts. How can we grow the economy if we are constrained in this way? Transport in the West Midlands is appalling and is as a result of short term thinking by local authorities who have been forced to become insular in their thinking. We have the perfect airport to take up the pressure from a congested South and our existing rail infrastructure, if used properly, could take a lot of cars off the road. We must give freight priority.
How is the Combined Authority going to help manufacturing? In May 2017 we will have a Mayor and that person is responsible for the West Midlands. We have never had a single point of responsibility before. I have been working with one of the candidates and I have made it clear that raising business rates must be a last resort and only done when businesses are showing increased profits as a result of reduced congestion and cheaper energy. The deal we are getting from government leaves us with a £4 billion shortfall. Our Mayor must be able to squeeze a better deal from Government to help us with education and transport. Getting the same kind of deal as Transport for London gets would be a great start. What would you say to local business leaders in this area? The first thing I would say is to get to know your Mayoral candidates. Businesses have not had a sufficiently loud voice within the devolution debate. Locally we have a microcosm of businesses types that mirrors the wider West Midlands: specialist component manufacturers along with associated service sector companies. All of these would benefit from support to enter the wider geographic markets and from a supply of home grown talent.

Business46 Celebrates 3rd Anniversary in Style! B
Local Business
www.thecoleshillpost.co.uk/business
Business46 celebrated its 3-year anniversary at Lea Marston Hotel and Spa on Wednesday 9th November. Over 40 local business owners and professionals attended the breakfast event and were treated to delicious bacon sandwiches and birthday cupcakes.
The morning started with a great buzz, as dancers from Nouveau Theatre School in Coleshill, performed a high-energy routine to raise funds for their forthcoming dance competition in Barcelona. Guest speaker for the morning was local ‘The Apprentice’ star and entrepreneur, Gary Poulton. Gary provided a wonderful insight into his experience on BBC1’s The Apprentice with Lord Sugar. Gary gave a vivid description of the highs and lows of being on the show, along with how he is using the experience to help others achieve more; including, tips on how to successfully mix corporate life with entrepreneurial ambition. Organisers, Penny Sheward of PS Recruitment, Jemma James of TruTac and Anna Plotnek of Plott Creative, were overwhelmed with the support and positive feedback from the event. Three years ago, the trio realised there was lots of
businesses in the area, but no networking groups and little professional support, as the area geographically falls between Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry Chambers of Commerce. So, with sheer enthusiasm and determination they decided to combine their skills and launched Business46. The group remains the only business to business networking for the B46 postcode and surrounding area. Over the last 3 years 100’s of professionals have gained business and grown their network via Business46. The group also supports various sports clubs, charities, and schools. Their Christmas party is Fri 16th Dec at Deckedence and is only £22 a ticket, including a DJ and Hog Roast, but places are limited, so book now. Classical Acupuncture
What is acupuncture? How can it help you? Council and both seek to treat the cause of imbalance. The second myth is that acupuncture needles are like hypodermic needles! They are as fine as a human hair and the experience of them is nothing like an injection. There is a sensation but it only lasts a few seconds. Acupuncture professionals trained in the Five Element style for the most part do not leave needles in; the needle is merely inserted slowly and then removed quickly. Prior to needling a point they often additionally use a herb called moxa which heats and stimulates the energy; this process is known as moxibustion. They do not tend to use many points in a session with the adage of less is more. TCM practitioners tend to leave needles in and do not use moxa as much.
Results of two independent surveys have shown acupuncture to be safe in practice and suitable for all ages and conditions. FREE 15 MINUTE CONSULTATION

Chris Leeson is a Classical Acupuncturist who has been working in Coleshill for twenty years. Here she dispels some of the myths surrounding this ancient medicine. Firstly it is important to differentiate between ‘acupuncture’ and
‘dry
needling’. Members of the British Acupuncture Council have all been trained to degree level and above. The course is at least three years and is a medicine in its own right that can treat both physical and emotional complaints. These regulated professionals offer what is known as Traditional or Classical Acupuncture. Alongside that there are other practitioners (often physios) who have completed maybe a week-end course who have been taught a few acupuncture points to relieve painful physical conditions. This sometimes is mistakenly

called acupuncture but should really be known as ‘dry needling’ as it does not seek to treat the cause of the problem. It is important if you are looking for or are offered acupuncture that you find out what training the person has had. Additionally, within Traditional Acupuncture there are two main styles of approach: Eight Principle which is often described as TCM: Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element: referred to as either Traditional Acupuncture or Classical Acupuncture. Both styles are regulated by the British Acupuncture
Another myth is that needles are put into nerve endings! Quite the reverse is true: traditional acupuncturists are taught detailed anatomy to ensure that they avoid nerves. Needling into a nerve would create a lot of pain and discomfort. In fact, needles are placed into specific points along an energy channel. New photo techniques are now revealing these long known mysterious aspects of our bodies discovered thousands of years ago by the ancient Chinese. In this system of medicine all the organs of the body have their own channels of energy that weave together to create a whole of interdependent energetic relationships. Illness comes about when there is imbalance in this finely tuned regulatory system and can manifest as either a physical or emotional complaint or in reality both at some level. Each acupuncture point has a different function and by stimulating it the acupuncturist is reminding the body of good habits and seeking to return it to balance, thereby dealing with the symptoms. The good news is that Classical Acupuncture can help people of all ages and conditions (according to research) and has no nasty side effects. Acupuncture practised with skill is much more than people often realise. There are many examples of people who say ‘Why did I never try this before?’ Chris Leeson is a Classical Acupuncturist who has been working in Coleshill for twenty years www.yinyangcentre.co.uk

go to the family and friends of JACK BODELL, Midlands, British, Commonwealth and European Heavyweight Champion. R.I.P. 1940-2016.
Barry McGuigan at Bar Sports Cannock
Mav Akram, co-owner and unbeaten female boxer for Birmingham's WBC women's boxing club with Barry McGuigan who fully supports women in boxing. Barry recorded a personal video for WBC congratulating them on their hard work and dedication to boxing
By Jason Lowe On the UK shores and in Ireland, he is the most recognised face and name in Featherweight boxing. The strong framed stance mounting supporting them massive JCB like hands that was chiselled from years punching bags and Pads to endless and tiring sparring sessions from school days to just days before his final fight. Barry McGuigan MBE is one of the most recognised sporting icons and faces in Boxing. He steam rolled through the British Title against Vernon Penprase on the 12-041983 and went on to win the European title against Valerie NAti on 16th November that same year. Two years later he walked into the ring at London’s QPR ground by and gave one, if not his best boxing display ever when he took on the formidable Panama devil Eusebio Pedroza. All the struggle and unrest of living in Belfast through the 70s and 80s had made Barry defiant and proud. He refused to bow
to pressure from both sides of the Catholic and Protestant community. He didn't want to offend anyone as he believed boxing was for all, no matter what side you lived on and testament to his attitude he had fans from all over. Barry was very proud of his amateur and professional boxing accolades, however it all went to pot when he lost to Steve Cruz in Las Vegas in 1986. Barry had agreed to the fight but things turned against him. The heat and the time of the fight had gone against him in his first defense, Barry lost his title. However the fight would have a more sinister twist to it after claims Barry’s manager Barney Eastwood had given 600.000 to Barry and kept the extra million. Barry fuming with this claim never trusted Eastwood again and took him to court. The judge made Barry pay for all bills and supported Eastwood claim. Barry never spoke to Eastwood again and many of the boxing World backed Barry and shunned Eastwood. Barney was a bookie by trade and took to McGuigan
from the start. After the Cruz, fight Barry had 3 wins but his last fight in was against London tough nut Jim McDonald. In 1989 Jim McDonald who had won The Southern Area title and become the new European champion had unsuccessfully challenged for the WBA title but lost. He was younger and faster than Barry. McDonald won by TKO. Fastforward to 2016, The Clones Cyclone is the manager of champion Carl Frampton and owner of Cyclone Promotions. He is a pundit for most fights and is a must on the dinner circuits not just across the U.K., but also across Ireland and The USA. He is a marvel when it comes to knowledge of both boxing and boxers. Barry now spends most of his time with son Shane and in the camp of Frampton who is fighting in January next year. Carl Frampton who is unbeaten in 28 fights has won the Celtic, Commonwealth, European, IBF Continental and WBA Super Bantamweight Titles. He is also the WBA Super Featherweight World champion. He is again up against Leo Santa Cruz in the return after beating him this year. Both Shane and Carl will be attending a dinner show at Bar Sports, Cannock, early next year. Barry held court on this show with great stories of boxing and life, the loss of Young Ali, the fighter who died after a fight with a young McGuigan. The loss of his brother and the longstanding love his has for his wife Sandra, who has been there since day one. Barry is a must when it comes to boxing speakers. He has the charm and banter to keep you captivated in a trance. He can walk you thru every step of his boxing life and thru every fight, punch for punch. Without a shadow of doubt Barry is a fantastic people person and kind natured. Barry has the swagger for both young and older fans to keep them with the sport. Scott Murray has again scored a massive high on this event and with Barry the future can only get brighter!
The boxing fraternity mourns the sad loss of champion JACK BODELL By Jason Lowe The former Light Heavyweight Midlands Champion & Midlands, British, Commonwealth and European Heavyweight Champion sadly past away last month (9th) due to health complications, He was 76 years of age. The Swadlincote SouthPaw one was one of those unsung heroes of boxing and always got a bad deal when it came to the boxing press. Born August 11 1940, Bodell was a tall kid who took up boxing at the age of 15. Leaving school he joined the National coal-board and it was not long before he got wins under his belt and became the light-heavyweight champion 3 times alongside winning 3 gold medals also. Boxing for Coalville amateur boxing club, He won the ABA championships and won the Bronze medal at the European championships in 1961. After a very successful amateur career Jack turned professional in 1962 having his first fight against Mick Cowan in West Bromwich, Jack won. He won his 6 pro fights before he had a loss. Winning the Midlands Area Light Heavyweight Title in his 5th fight against Roy Seaward from Lincoln. With 12 fights in 1962, Jack was busy. On the 20th January Jack fought Ron Gray and won the Midlands Heavyweight title. Between 1965 & 1967 Jack seamed to have stayed at a safe level in boxing yet he was very active up and down the country. Fights with Randolph Vaughan, Ray Shiel, Herbert Hilton, Dave Ould, Billy Daniels, Thad Spencer and Floyd Patterson's brother Ray. Jack was now up against Henry Cooper for the British and Commonwealth Titles. He lost by TKO. He came back strong with 2 wins over Rocky Campbell and beat Johnny Prescott for the Midlands Area Heavy-
weight title. He carried on with a winning streak over Lion Ven, Brian London, Carl Gizzi, Billy Walker, and again beating Carl Gizzi this time for the vacant British Heavyweight title. On March 24th Jack again faced Henry Cooper. This time it was in Henrys stomping ground of London. At the Empire Pool at Wembley, Jack again lost to Cooper. From the Cooper fight he had another winning streak against names such as Jack O'Halloran, Manuel Ramos, Bill Drover. He beat all the odds in 1972 by beating the young up coming star Joe Bugner to become the British, Commonwealth and European Heavyweight Champion. Two months later it had all gone to pot. George Biddles, the legendary promoter and manager put Jack up against Jerry Quary and Jack got battered losing by KO. Jack never recovered from that beating and his friendship with Biddles drifted further apart. He had 2 more fights and 2 more losses. A European shot against Jose Manuel Urtain and Danny McALinden. Jack was KO’d in both fights. The 3 round beating from McAlinden was not just totally embarrassing but the final straw for Bodell. He retired from boxing to open small business adventures which all become very successful. He opened his Knock Out chip shop in Coventry and Muhammad Ali officially opened it for him. Over the last 2 years Jack’s health declined and his wife and family received great support from care homes Jack was in. They worked very close with the family all the time and but sadly Jack declined to the stage he didn't recognise his daughter and other people he knew all of his life. He died due to complications from Dementia. Jacks funeral took place on Thursday November 24th at Canley crematorium Coventry. He leaves behind his wife, son, daughter and granddaughter. R.I.P.

Saturday 10th December
Coleshill based Taekwon Do club ITF Fusion have had more than one reason to celebrate recently.
Saturday 29th October 2016 saw 4 of its students travel to London to compete in the ETA Rose Cup and walk away with 6 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. Reuben Williams - 3rd degree black belt, Taylor Smith - Red Belt, Jack Smith - Red tag and Ty Thomas - Blue tag all won Gold medals in their respective grades for their Patterns. The students clearly decided one medal wasn't enough and continued their winning streak in Sparring with Reuben and Taylor taking Gold, Ty Silver and Jack Bronze. ITF Fusion also won the trophy for ETA Rose Cup Overall Winner 2016. In addition to this, at the beginning of October five of the club's members travelled to Budapest, Hungary to represent the England Taekwon Do Association at the 6th ITF World Cup; the largest Taekwon Do championships held with over 2000 competitors from 58 countries. The three Seniors, Wayne Burns, Reuben and Miles Crook along with the 2 Juniors, Taylor and Jack took part throughout the 4 day tournament, competing in Patterns, Sparring, Special Technique, Power or Breaking. Some of the Seniors beat their personal bests and the Juniors had an incredible experience at their first World Cup. Jack even managed to get as far as the quarterfinals, finishing in the top 8 of his group for Patterns, and Taylor just one round behind,
a remarkable achievement considering their individual groups consisted of 100+ competitors. Throughout November a number of students also competed in tournaments over 2 week-ends, firstly in London and then closer to home in Birmingham. At the UKTA UK Open Championships in London Jack won Gold and Silver and Ty won double Gold; the following weekend Fusion students Reuben, Taylor, Jack, Ty and Tracey Thomas all competed at the Birmingham Open Taekwon Do Championships and came away with at least one Gold medal each with the majority winning double Gold - a total of 8 Golds in one day!! Fantastic way to finish off an incredible year of tournaments for the club. All students train under the guidance of Wayne's Burns 4th degree black belt who is current coach to the England team, and as well as teaching the martial art of Taekwon Do his club promotes self defence, confidence, discipline and fitness for all ages and ability. Classes are run from Coleshill Leisure Centre on Wednesday’s 7pm-8pm and Sunday’s 6pm-7pm. New to Friday’s from 7pm-8pm are classes for Sport TKD which consists of fitness, pad drills, sparring work and flexibility for 12 years+. Match Reports By Alan Beckett
Saturday 29th October Westfields 0 v 4 Coleshill Town
Coleshill went to the league leaders who had lost just one game all season and none at home. The perfect performance saw Town destroy the home side with goals by Tom Weale, Josh Quaynor, Tom Fishwick and Reece Leek.
Tuesday 1st November League Cup Coleshill Town 2 v 4 Hinckley AFC
At the start of the 2015/2016 season, five long standing CTFC supporters decided to form an official Supporters Club. The objective behind this decision was initially to formalise the group’s annual player sponsorship and end of season “Supporter’s Player Of The Year” nomination.
The group quickly attracted Facebook followers, which now stand at over 100. Regular supporters of any of the teams associated with the club are invited to join as full members, the total currently standing at 18. Full members join for a fee of just £5 for the season; members are entitled to vote for the Man Of The Match award which is presented after each first team home game. Members will also be able to enjoy discounts on selected club enterprises, including away coach travel, as well as a vote in the end of season player awards. Recently, the supporters club have been applying for grants from a wide range of sources and were recently awarded £1000 from Coleshill Town Council. The grant
will be topped up by £500 from the Supporters Club funds and will be donated to the football club for a new roof on the main stand. We will be asking the club and the ground owners if we can name the stand the “Percy Hastings” stand in honour of the committee member responsible for bringing football to Pack Meadow in 1974 from its original location at the memorial park in Coleshill. In addition, a refurbished laptop has been obtained from Warwickshire County Council for use by all Coleshill teams that play at the ground. Grant applications pending include projects for a new public address system and new portable goal nets for the mini-soccer and junior teams. The original five members who form the executive committee have all been members of the main club committee and have a combined total of 125 years associated with Coleshill Town. So, not just a bunch of old cronies sitting in the corner, we do have history and are passionate about Coleshill Town Football Club. Alan Beckett (Chairman) – Alan is a former coach of the cup winning reserve
team during the 2006/2007 season, and has been First Team Coach, Secretary and Chief Executive in the past. Colin Wheatley (Treasurer) – Colin coached the U11-U15 Colts teams that played on the small pitch from 1996 to 2000, and is currently celebrating 20 years of involvement with the club in a number of roles. Craig Hamilton – Craig played for the first team, reserve team and was manager of the youth team from 1999 to 2003. John Townsend – Johnny was a regular player at goalkeeper for the first team, then coach, then groundsman and even Chairman for a short period. David Wilson – Dave Wilson is the group’s most experienced member, and featured as a first team midfielder during the 60’s and was instrumental in the club moving to Pack Meadow in 1974 when his father in law Percy Hastings approached a local Trust. If you wish to join the Supporters Club then please contact any of the committee before or after the game. You’ll find us in the main stand or propping up the bar afterwards!

The first real attack of the game came from Coleshill as Gio Dainty went down the left and crossed the ball into the area only for Tom Weale to lift his shot over the bar. Then only a couple of minutes later the same two players combined again as Dainty squared the ball across the edge of the box and this time Weale side footed the ball past Blackburn in the Westfield goal for 1-0 with ten minutes on the clock. Coleshill were playing some good football closing Westfields down and giving them no time in midfield and this paid dividends on 17 minutes when Dale Taylor won the ball and passed to Weale to score under the keepers body from inside the box, 2-0. Coleshill were enjoying most of the possession and Jordan Nadat had a chance to increase the lead when he went one on one with the keeper but Blackburn made another good save. Nadat was causing all sorts of problems for the Westfields defence with his non stop running and when he knocked the ball past a defender the referee saw a hand ball and a rather soft penalty was given. Up stepped the normally reliable
Dean Rathbone but he saw his spot kick tipped onto the post by Blackburn and then he could not net the rebound as the ball rolled across the goal line to the other post. Nadat then hit a sweet shot from 20 yards but saw his effort hit the post. Rathbone then missed an easy chance as he side footed wide from 6 yards. Westfields were finding it hard to get into the game and they didn't threaten the Coleshill goal until 30 minutes when Jones brought out a good save from Town keeper Paul Hathaway. Then a cross from the right was put wide by Thomas. But the Colemen increased their lead on 31 minutes when they won a free kick and the ball was played out to Craig Milligan on the right and his left foot cross was met perfectly by Dainty to head home at the near post for 3-0. Hathaway
then made another great save as Westfields started to push forward and then Greaves put a shot just wide. Then in their best spell Westfields hit the crossbar after a free kick was blocked but the half ended 3-0. Coleshill started the second half on the front foot and after only 3 minutes of the restart Jordan Nadat was sent clear down the right. The striker cut inside and saw his initial shot well saved by Blackburn but Nadat reacted quickest to get to the loose ball and score from an acute angle for 4-0 and just reward for all his hard work. Westfields then have several chances as first Thomas then Jones saw shots saved by Hathaway. Then Thomas saw Hathaway make a superb fingertip save from his curling shot. It was now end to end football with no end product from either side but then Bonella for Westfields curled a low free kick towards goal but again Hathaway pulled off a great save at the foot of the post. However in the last few minutes Westfields get a consolation goal as Greaves saw a header from a corner saved but then he netted the rebound. Coleshill deserved the win with a dominant pressing game that didn't let Westfields have any time or space on the ball and could have doubled the score. So Coleshill are now into the last 32 of the FA Vase and they now travel to Gorleston (Great Yarmouth) on 7 January 2017, to attempt to reach the last 16 for the first time in their history.
