a very challenging and overwhelming experience . Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Being in art class as an elective and finding out I was awful at every project except one-doing a self portrait by looking at myself in a mirror, putting my pencil down and not lifting it off the paper till portrait was complete (without looking down at the paper).

Golden Roses Reflections St. Rose gave me an opportunity to mature in a safe environment with encouragement from professors, classmates and intellectual stimulation. This foundation led to a wonderful marriage to an RPI graduate who also shared my faith in God. This led to the birth of our two girls, 17 months apart. I had the opportunity to teach Math in West Chester, PA for almost five years and in England where we lived for 18 years. Through Bill’s management consulting work in mass transport we had the privilege to visit many places in the world. We also continued to grow in the Lord and spent ten years helping orphans in .Romania, running micro-enterprise courses and lending money to start new businesses. We also worked with Romanian Baptist and Pentecostal churches. This led to encouraging four start up Assembly of God churches. This also led to Bill, my husband becoming an Assembly of God minister and later after my mom’s passing, I also became a licensed Assembly of God minister. We presently pastor an Assembly of God church in Granville, New York. We love being with our seven grandchildren and living in Vermont on Lake St. Catherine. We continue to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading and trust Him with whatever the future holds.

Life Since Graduation Occupation/Title: Executive Director, Women's Forum of New York

Retired: Yes

Community Involvement: After graduation, I taught elementary school for two years in upstate New York, married and moved to the Big Apple, where my husband and I raised four children – in the middle of Manhattan! I was fortunate to be able to stay home with my family and volunteer in New York’s political, medical, and legal communities, specifically with the League of Women’s Voters, the Auxiliary of Saint Vincent’s Hospital, the Legal Aid Society of New York, the Foundation for Complex Orthopedic Surgery, and as the Director of Fundraising for a state-wide political campaign. After my children were grown, I parlayed my volunteer experience into a full-time job as the Executive Director of the Women’s Forum of New York, an invitation-only organization of more than 500 women representing the highest levels of achievement across all professional sectors and spheres of influence in New York City. Now retired from these endeavors, I am honored to devote my volunteer time as a Trustee of The College of Saint Rose. Hobbies and Activities: I spend a great deal of time serving on the Board of the Candlewood Lake Club in Connecticut. Travel: Soon after we dropped our youngest off in college, we flew to China, which was a life-long dream. One of the perks of being the E.D. of the Women’s Forum of New York was that my job description included representing the New York Forum at the International Women’s Forum Conferences each year. So, I was fortunate to travel all over South America, Asia, Europe and Africa – and my husband would usually join me after the conference to make a vacation out of it - our favorites being Morocco, Buenos Aires, Berlin, South Africa, Israel and Petra in Jordan.

Saint Rose Experience Undergraduate Major: Elementary Education/ Mathematics Saint Rose Extra-Curricular Activities: I served as Cultural Affairs Chair of the Student Government and besides organizing speakers, concerts, etc., I oversaw the ART BARN – remember the big barn in the middle of campus that we turned into an Art Studio and Gallery. Together with Mary Koisch and other volunteers, we painted and decorated that old barn and produced several student art shows – way before the Picotte Center or our beautiful Massry Center. Favorite Class: Senior Year – The Exceptional Child – professor took us all over the state to visit schools for children with disabilities. This had a profound impact on my life and career. Favorite Professor: Sr. Jeanne Pierre who taught us how to write and how to speak in public. Doris Grumbach who taught us to be independent thinkers. Memorable Classmate: Jane D’Arcy, Anne Barry, Penny Donally, Jane Beecher, Ellen Giovanetti, Patti MacCubbin, Mary Koisch, Ann Shaw, Valerie Civiok, Jo-Anne Mayo and our Junior Sisters – Gail Deegan and Collie Gargiulo. Best Saint Rose Memory: Our Freshman Tea with Hats and White Gloves, PJs under our Academic Attire at Wednesday morning masses, dressing for served dinners each night, bridge in the Camelot Room and the Smoker, signing out to go horseback riding (when I was deadly afraid of horses) or bowling – only so we could wear pants off campus, having to get a letter from my parents allowing me to go to my boyfriend’s college weekend out of town. And who can forget Sex at Six? Those were the days! Funniest Saint Rose Memory: After a night of celebrating the end of our Senior Year Student Teaching, a group of us were driving home and were involved in an accident. I remember opening my eyes in the hospital and seeing Sr. Margaret Keeshan and Sr. Joan Geannelis leaning over my Emergency Room bed. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven – or worse…… Luckily, we all recovered!

Golden Roses Reflections The College of Saint Rose made us independent thinkers, taught us to believe we could do anything and groomed us as leaders. Our class, the Class of 1970, was the Class that drove Saint Rose into the second half of their first century. We were the class that changed so much on campus. Not only were we the last class to graduate all women and the last to have a Sister of Saint Joseph as our President, but we were also the class to question so many rules that had been around for the first 50 years. The Class of 1970 had a major hand in transforming much on campus during a turbulent time in our nation’s history - the Vietnam War, political assassinations, and the tragedy of Kent State, just days before our graduation. But these challenges made us formidable, self-sufficient women – and we have continued in that role today by sponsoring PROJECT 70 – an initiative to open doors for Saint Rose students by facilitating internships around the world. Saint Rose taught us to succeed – and to give back.

Dave and I met at a Siena/St. Rose Mixer in 1968 Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Freshman Year

Golden Roses Reflections My four years at St. Rose preparing for an elementary teaching career were very special to me. It was the perfect setting for me as the oldest of the five girls in my family. Living in West and Immaculata Hall and the fourth floor of Lima Hall gave me cherished memories and dear friends. Back in the “phone in the hall” days we were always knocking on doors and sharing family conversations. Favorite memories were our nightly dinners, especially singing grace, our class masses and musical performances, and the close friendships we developed across picnic tables and walking to and from classes. Meeting my “Prince Charming” as St. Rose/Siena Sociology Professor Plager always referred to my future husband, was also a highlight of my time at St. Rose. St. Rose was the perfect setting for career preparation, friendship and love.

Best Saint Rose Memory: Special Holiday Masses, Special Holiday Dinners, the beauty of the St. Rose Campus in the Spring Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Philosophy class in the basement of the Science Hall. It was hot, dreary and right after lunch. Many days my notes would trail off in scribbles as my pen dropped when I dozed off. In spring of our senior year a salesman held an afternoon tea to entice us to buy china, crystal, flatware and stainless steel pots and pans. Ann Shaw and I bought it all, as I am sure many others did. Then we had to get a job to pay for it, working at Carrol's on Western Ave. When May came, the manager offered us full time jobs, saying we were the best employees he ever had. We thanked him for the complement but said we were returning home to start teaching careers and get married! I still use my purchases today

Golden Roses Reflections I grew up in a small rural town and graduated in a class of 76 students, most of whom I had known since kindergarten. We were all very close. When I came to St. Rose, the class was larger but still presented the opportunity to be a part of small intimate groups of friends. At St. Rose I had a chance to continue to pursue my love of Mathematics, taking numerous math courses taught by great professors. This study and love of Mathematics served me well throughout my career. Developing and deepening a love for learning at St. Rose made me an ardent life-long learner. Thank you St. Rose!

Funniest Saint Rose Memory: When we convinced the President to allow the first cocktail party on campus for our 1970 graduation weekend, and the nuns were waiting in line for 30 minutes before we opened the student center for the event.

Golden Roses Reflections St.Rose encouraged young Catholic women of the 1960's to consider all kinds of professional roles. Many of our class became lawyers, doctors, college professors, strong administrators and managers, Deans in universities, entrepreneurs, as well as more traditional, but equally important, roles as teachers. It was unusual for women in the late sixties and early seventies to take on such varied positions. St. Rose made us believe we could, if we chose to.

Golden Roses Reflections St. Rose was the launching pad for a future filled with opportunities and lifelong learning. I had the enjoyment of watching students learn and the excitement in their eyes as everything “clicked.” I’ve spent my life as a teacher and a learner.

Golden Roses Reflections Judy and I would take a taxi to Pearl Street in Albany to help girls and boys at a fire station – it was their YMCA. It opened our eyes to poverty. They jumped on an old mattress instead of a trampoline. We cooked on a stove that had only two burners. They had a store in the station where they sold shoes with holes, old clothing, etc. To this day I help support the Rome Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army.

Golden Roses Reflections St. Rose was such a refuge during a time of such unrest- Vietnam, civil rights, women’s rights. It grounded me well in my future career in education & provided me with many tools to be innovative, creative, empathetic, professional, collaborative, & a leader both in & out of the classroom. I enjoyed being part of so many friends’ families at Thanksgiving, being so far from home. The women I met & befriended will always be remembered warmly!

Saint Rose Extra-Curricular Activities: President of Resident Student Council, Resident Student Council Rep for the Senate, Big Sister Program Favorite Class: The Exceptional Child (Senior Year) Favorite Professor: Ruth Johnson Memorable Classmate: The entire class was memorable! It's impossible to choose a few classmates. Best Saint Rose Memory: Loved when we gathered in the Chapel for Convocation or for an end of the year ceremony with the entire school wearing Academic Attire. I fondly remember the Mass and the music, especially each class singing their Class Song. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: My sophomore year, I moved to St. Rose of Lima Hall after spending Freshman Year at Pius X House. It was a big change. We had elevators in the building. Men (usually our fathers) were only allowed in the building to move us in or out. Of course, there were workmen who would have to come in during the school year. Whenever one of these workmen came, the elevator doors would open and the man would yell, "MAN ON THE FLOOR", just to warn us! Long gone are those days!!!

Golden Roses Reflections My St. Rose story began when my aunt and uncle, who lived in near Albany, told me about St. Rose. They said, "If you want to major in Education, you have to attend St. Rose. They have a great reputation for producing excellent teachers." I was from Bridgeport, CT and never heard of the College of St. Rose, but I trusted my aunt and uncle. I was accepted and went to visit the campus before I made my decision. I felt this was the college for me and I never had any regrets. After graduation, I taught in New York State for 2 years and then our first child was born. I became a stay-at-home Mom for 15 years raising 3 children. The life skills, foundation and education I received at St. Rose will always be with me. My passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child, enabled me to receive a Fellowship for my Masters Degree at the University of Connecticut, 19 years after I graduated from St. Rose. After 25 years of a successful career in teaching and 50 years of marriage to Sam (who I met in "Ralph's Tavern" in 1967), raising three children who have produced 6 grandchildren, St. Rose has and will always have a major impact on the fabric of my life.

Memorable Classmate: I'm afraid I'd leave someone out if I listed names! I was a Day Hopper and ALL in that lounge were memorable to me. Best Saint Rose Memory: When we were seniors the Superintendent of Troy schools came to interview those interested in jobs. When he asked where I lived he then offered to drive me home that night. My interview took place during that car ride. And I got a job!

Golden Roses Reflections My St Rose story really happened many years after graduating. On one occasion when I was receiving an award my principal spoke about St Rose and it's wonderful education program. She then told everyone how St Rose classes formed my educational background. She praised me for utilizing what I learned. It was moving.

Saint Rose Experience Undergraduate Major: Secondary Education - Business Saint Rose Extra-Curricular Activities: "Day Hop" Student Council - overseeing swimming gym classes at local high school as Red Cross Instructor Favorite Class: Money & Banking Favorite Professor: Irene McDermott Memorable Classmate: Our fun initial freshman group of over 10 (with 5 named Patty) that each continued to develop many friends - always welcoming one another to join in with all they were involved with. Best Saint Rose Memory: Having my mother recipient of the St. Rose Alumni Award in 2000 especially since she was not only the most wonderful mother ever - but a woman of highest integrity, professionalism and total commitment to motherhood, education and a life-long commitment to children of special needs. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Loading into Patty Coffey's car - almost like a "Chinese fire drill" - to go to "Jack's" hamburgers in Troy for "lunch"

Golden Roses Reflections My St. Rose experience began with the realization that my mother attended was a grad of one of the earliest classes and we grew up as children attending May Day celebrations. Sister Lucina was also so supportive to our family for our special needs sister. It was a natural for me to attend CSR and my years were truly special with wonderful friends and campus experiences. We entered our freshman year as students coming from protective family environments - to then experience the full impact of the national and campus protests of the Viet Nam era. Despite this, our St. Rose support network kept us focused and on track - mine with student teaching assignments referred by Irene McDermott, referral to my first job in a extremely tight teaching market by our Director of Placement, Helen Walton, also a St. Rose grad. We were always encouraged that we could accomplish anything we chose and challenged to be alert to opportunities. I would never have ever thought at that time that major career changes from teaching to HR management to founding a company, to consulting and working for an international career management firms and also for an executive coaching assignment for MIT's Executive MBA Program would be in my future. Most importantly, the greatest St. Rose lifelong message was to treasure our faith, family and appreciation for our blessings.

Best Saint Rose Memory: The exchange concerts we had with various men’s colleges. My favorite one was with West Point and all those cadets! I had the privilege of wearing a West Point jacket and cap as an advertisement for the upcoming concert. The caption on my picture said “ the army was never like this.” You can’t say that today! My how times have changed.

Golden Roses Reflections I have fond memories of Joe’s Deli which was just down the street from the college. Since we had choir rehearsal at 6:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights a group of us would walk down to Joe’s

for dinner. I always would order Joe’s roast beef with thousand island dressing on rye bread. This sandwich was huge and to this day the best sandwich I’ve ever had! My friends and I would laugh, talk and share our hopes and dreams for the future. If only we knew then what we know now would our lives have turned out differently....maybe or then again maybe not.

Favorite Class: Math Logic Favorite Professor: Mary Ann McLoughlin Memorable Classmate: Verne Lanoue Stout (roommate), Nancy Falkowski DePetris, Anne Barry Delehanty, Kathy McTague Odabashian Best Saint Rose Memory: Prof Bill Burlinghoff asked several of us Math majors to usher at a folk concert at a local high school -- Bob Dylan was in the audience but he wasn't allowed to perform. We were all atwitter! Another memory was picking up Verne at her job and then going for ice cream cones, especially in the winter! Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Gym class in the old barn on campus with our instructor Kay Teale -athletics for women was not encouraged in the late '60's, so we didn't have any skills or coordination. But we tried and we laughed a lot!

Golden Roses Reflections I enjoyed the best of both worlds while at St. Rose – I was a dayhop my first two years. I’d often give Kathy McTague a ride to class each morning. Then, I was able to board the last two years, rooming with Verne Lanoue. Living in the dorm enabled me to have the full “college” experience. We had a strong group of gals who were all Math majors -- we supported each other and had lots of fun, too. My St. Rose education prepared me for a truly diverse career with the NYS Office of Real Property Services. I began in research, then had more responsibilities over the years. As Assistant to the Executive Director, I had a wide variety of tasks and worked with people at all levels. I led our organizational development efforts through Strategic Planning and Quality Improvement. Finally, I directed our Educational Services Office, providing training to agency staff as well as to all Real Property Tax Assessors throughout NYS. We created and conducted the first online computer-based training in the State. While at St. Rose I had decided not to pursue a teaching career, but in the end, that’s what I did (training adults) and I loved it! My husband and I were blessed to be able to retire early and we’ve lived in Southeastern North Carolina for nineteen years. My St. Rose education and relationships have enabled me to have a full, rich retirement.

Saint Rose Experience Undergraduate Major: French Saint Rose Extra-Curricular Activities: Glee Club 1970-71, Big Sisters Favorite Class: French Linguistics Favorite Professor: Dr. Leonard Symansky Memorable Classmate: Jane Beecher, Evelyn Boulais, Janice Darrow, Noreen Smith Best Saint Rose Memory: During our junior year Saint Rose and Siena College implemented a pilot program where some St. Rose students attended a class at Siena and vice versa. Our class's French majors were among the first women students to attend a class at Siena. We were part of St. Rose history! Funniest Saint Rose Memory: The Day the Holy Spirit Came to French Class Although this event was not funny at the time, the memory has often evoked a smile. One day in Freshman Advanced French

Class Sister asked a question, and it was immediately obvious from the body language that no one knew the answer. Like all the others I had no idea of the answer, and, of course, she called on me. At that moment I opened my mouth and the answer, correct and in French no less, came out. My classmates looked quizzically at me as if to say, "How did you know that?" I have always been convinced that the Holy Spirit spoke French that day!

Golden Roses Reflections What wisdom can I share? Especially as a young teacher I was very focused on my students’ mastery of the subject matter. With time and experience I have realized that the real goal is that the students become good people. Whether they have high school diplomas or multiple graduate degrees, I hope to have contributed in some small way to making them good spouses, parents, sons, daughters, who have found their true role. During my freshman year I was in the Glee Club, and we performed “No Man is An Island” at a concert. I have never forgotten the lyrics to this song and believe that, at the end of the day, it encompasses our role in this world: “No man is an island, No man stands alone. Each man’s joy is joy to me; each man’s grief is my own. We need one another, so I will defend each man as my brother, each man as my friend.” It reflects my life goals, from which, admittedly, I have often fallen short, and what I think the founders of St. Rose wanted us to be.

Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Senior Show – “There in Nothing Like a Dame.” What was I thinking?!!!

Golden Roses Reflections We were part of a close-knit community where friendships formed easily and small classes gave everyone the opportunity to know their classmates. Memorable instructors, including the faithful and devoted Sisters of Saint Joseph, expected diligence and encouraged excellence. We shared our lives in the Camelot Room and took part in so many long-standing traditions. And during out time there, one major tradition changed forever as St Rose began its transition to a coeducational institution. After a graduation that almost didn’t happen, we ventured forth to pursue our many and varied goals. Now 50+ years later, our Alma Mater has expanded so beautifully both academically and physically into its surrounding city landscape. I feel so fortunate to have been part of the Saint Rose experience, and to have the honor of being a graduate of The College of Saint Rose.

Golden Roses Reflections I started St. Rose after having attended Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. My focus was Social Work. I took classes to that end with several education ones as well. I enjoyed all my classes because there was so much to absorb. After graduation and marriage to my Phalanx date (RPI) we set out for wherever life and the Navy sent us. I got to experience many different cultures and parts of

our country. The best were Hawaii and Alaska. While in Hawaii I had a child born 3 months premature. I realized at that moment God had prepared me for this challenge. I used everything I had learned from both St. Rose and Albany Med. Even the small things are important. We just have to be open.

Best Saint Rose Memory: Many memories with the most unusual being taking physical education classes in our gym/converted garage and going to the Y for swim classes. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: My freshman roommates (Jeanne, Terry, and Aleta) probably thinking who is this person as I unpacked my statues of Jesus, Mary, and St. Teresa!!! Then going to the WT for the first time, I (being 18) ordered the ginger ale while they (under 18) ordered the beers. Oh, how naive I was!!!

Golden Roses Reflections St. Rose was not my first choice of colleges (wanting to be a physical education major), but it was the best decision for me personally at that time of my development. I have lost contact with most of my high school friends, but my best St. Rose friends stay in contact on a fairly regular basis through visits, email, now Zoom, and soon to return to in person visits beyond class reunions. I certainly could not have asked for a better education. I’m sure she is not aware of it, but Professor McLoughlin had the most impact on my life. It went beyond teaching math. It was she who helped me grow mentally, emotionally, and with integrity. I was so happy to read that she has continued on at St. Rose to inspire others.

Golden Roses Reflections From Cooperstown, Home of Baseball, to St. Rose in Albany the Capitol of New York the adventure begins in September 1966. I found the St. Rose sisters, faculty and fellow students very caring, supportive and welcoming. I remember our freshmen play, serving dinners in the dining hall, assemblies in full academic attire, mass in the chapel and good times in the campus center. First stop was St Michael’s with Sister Kathleen and the sophomores to help us along the way. The big event was curfew time moved from 11 PM to midnight on weekends. Sophomore year I moved further down Madison Avenue to Rosary Hall (the original St. Rose and look at us now) with Sister Theresa and now we were the upperclassmen to the freshmen in our house. Junior year and off to the only dorm on campus as the upperclassmen. Many of us were rooming with roommates from freshmen year. This was also the year my sister joined me at St Rose as a freshman. Senior year brought full time guys to the campus, student teaching for the education majors and job hunts. Also the Vietnam protests and no exams. Luckily, unlike the seniors of 2020 we had graduation. St Rose was home for four years. It gave me support, a great education, many wonderful memories and friends. I will always be thankful for these years.

Memorable Classmate: too many to mention! Best Saint Rose Memory: the joy of learning from some outstanding professors

Golden Roses Reflections I have been privileged to serve in Catholic higher education for almost 50 years: 20 years as a professor of English at St. Rose, 2 years as a dean at Avila University (Kansas City), 5 years as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Fontbonne University (St. Louis), 9 years as President at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (Terre Haute, Indiana) and 14 years now as President/CEO at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa). In all of these positions, I've been fortunate to be able to continue teaching which has always been my greatest delight. The generations of students have kept me young! I think that the inspiration for being a teacher all my life came from the outstanding professors I had at St. Rose. They made me realize what a positive influence a teacher could be in a student's life. For me, teaching has been a privilege and a joy.

Golden Roses Reflections At St Rose, everyone smiled and said Hello. That simple gesture stayed with me forever. It taught kindness and understanding. If you could smile and say Hello, life was good. Real kindness and understanding helped others, as well as myself, through good times and bad. It taught empathy and generosity, sharing and giving, making the most of everyday for yourself and others, taking care of others, achieving inner peace.

Sr. Jeanne Mittnight for being willing to teach freshmen.

Memorable Classmate: Jana Siegel, my roommate for three years. Best Saint Rose Memory: Being part of a caring, intellectual community. Also, all the time I got to spend with the new books that came into the library. The variety of topics entranced me. I have always loved books. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: Not knowing my phone number senior year when asked for it by the man who eventually became my husband. It was early in the semester and I hadn't checked out the numbers of the phone booths in the hall. Good thing he was willing to call the front desk.

Golden Roses Reflections My story isn't one at Saint Rose, but it's because of Saint Rose. Because I was a CSR graduate, I got an interview for an English teaching job in Owego before the district received my application. I got the job and that's the job I retired from 34 years later. Saint Rose taught me by example that it was normal for women to be leaders. That has stayed with me throughout my life.

Golden Roses Reflections I picked the College of St Rose out of a catalogue and showed up on the first day of school never having seen the campus. All these years later this is what I know. I received a fine education but that could have occurred in many other schools. Classes, meals, rules, curfews, friends, adventures, but

always laughter and the company of special people are why the memory of 4 magical years remain imprinted on my heart.

Favorite Class: Astronomy Favorite Professor: Mr. McGrath Memorable Classmate: I really enjoyed spending the little free time we had with Greta Horan McNamara, Donna Milkins, Jane Gerwin, , Barbara Warren Cahill, and Mary Jane Margiotta Wood.

Best Saint Rose Memory: We were the last all female class at Saint Rose. When we returned from student teaching in March, 1970, the atmosphere was so different with boys on campus. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: It was a warm spring day and we were sitting on a blanket outside in the sun waiting for our last afternoon class. We had taken off our knee socks to catch the rays of the sun. All of a sudden we realized that we had to get to class. We dashed into the science building, without putting out socks back on. We sat through class waiting for the nun to reprimand us for having no covering on our legs. If she noticed, lucky for us she said nothing.

Golden Roses Reflections As a fourth grade teacher in Troy, I had many Saint Rose student teachers. I always told them some of the rules we were expected to follow and they would just be amazed.

Golden Roses Reflections Probably one of the most defining moments of my life occurred when I was a sophomore student at CSP. I was asked to go to St. Albans Bay, Vermont over an Easter break by Sister Theresa Wysolmerski to teach catechism instruction to children who were never exposed to formal religious education. (Sister’s brother, Father Wysolmerski, was paster of this very small parish and had asked sister to help him). I traveled to this small community on Lake Champlain with two other CSR (Elem ed majors) classmates for 10 days, and in the time period orchestrated lesson plans we had formulated before our arrival. St. Alban’s Bay was a very underprivileged area, fraught with economic hardship and a catholic church that was only 3 seasonal as it had no windows. These families really struggled, but the memory of this experience, recalling the enthusiasm also by their parents as well, still resonates in my heart after all these years!! I personally feel this experience for me reflected CSR’s mission statement during my student years. CSR being a school committed to faith, family and friends! I was blessed.

Golden Roses Reflections I was accepted to St. Rose but entered the Sisters of Mercy after high school so spent the next two years in a formation program, after which I went to St. Rose, still as a member of the order. I graduated with a major in English and taught English and Journalism at Vincentian Institute, the high school I had attended. After two years of teaching, I left the order and went to Boston College to pursue a Masters of Arts in Teaching and later on, an MBA. St. Rose, and especially the English Department, prepared me with the critical thinking, writing and communication skills to adapt and broaden the nature of my work across a variety of disciplines. Early on, I transitioned into fundraising, focusing primarily on corporate and foundation grant development and ultimately management in this area for Boston area educational and health care institutions, and social service agencies. It made for a rich and rewarding experience, both personally and professionally.

It was a good exposure for many of us from small towns. Funniest Saint Rose Memory: The time Mary Duffy and I attempted to walk home on a Saturday morning. Home was 50 miles north - and needless to say, we never made it home on foot!

Golden Roses Reflections When I reflect on my time at Saint Rose - I am struck by the simplicity and conformity of the experience: the served meals in our Dining Hall with only one entree - the required "class meetings" with Sister Elise - the fact that we didn't have much choice in our schedules until junior year - and that we actually owned our own graduation gowns for all 4 years! Layer onto this the fact that we couldn't wear slacks during the week - it sounds like a 50's Life in a bubble! Ironically Life in the 60's off campus was one of the most tumultuous times in our nation's history - but I think many of us were unaware of, and uninvolved with, the bigger picture. I do feel that one of the strongest assets of Saint Rose is that it brought together many wholesome, well- meaning and sincere young women.
