FEW FIELDS ARE CREATING MORE JOBS FASTER THAN HEALTHCARE. SAINT ROSE CAN GET YOU READY FOR THEM.

Undergraduate and Graduate Programs Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Undergraduate CSD students regularly gain entry into the field’s most prestigious graduate programs. Both undergraduate and graduate students study the development of language and communication, the science behind speech-language pathology and communication disorders. This study includes hours of hands-on clinical experience in hospitals, schools, agencies serving adults with developmental disas well as in the Joy S. Emery Educational and Clinical Services Center located in the Lally School of Education at Saint Rose. The CSD graduate program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (through July 31, 2017) and is approved by the New York State Education Department to license speech-language pathologists and to certify teachers of students with speech and language disabilities.

More than 95% of master’s degree students in Communication Sciences and Disorders find employment in the field within 1-3 months of graduation.

3 +2 program in Biology-Cytotechnology In the 3 +2 program in Biology-Cytotechnology, students study cells for evidence of disease. Students earn a B.S. in biology from Saint Rose, an M.S. in Cytotechnology from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), and eligibility to become a certified cytotechnologist. The program also meets the requirements for licensure as a cytotechnologist in New York.

3 +1 program in Medical Technology The 3 +1 program in Medical Technology combines a three-year academic component at Saint Rose leading to a bachelor’s degree with a one-year internship and specialization at the Rochester General Hospital (RGH) in Rochester, N.Y. or New York Methodist Hospital’s School of Medical Technology in Brooklyn, N.Y. 3 +2 program in Medical Technology The 3+2 Medical Technology program leads to a bachelor’s degree from Saint Rose and a master’s degree in clinical lab sciences from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. 4+ 2 program in Occupational Therapy (OT) or 4 +3 program in Physical Therapy (PT) Programs in Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) are collaborations between The College of Saint Rose and Sage Graduate School in which students earn a B.S. degree from Saint Rose and an M.S. for OT or Clinical Doctorate for PT from Sage. Minor in Public Health Public Health is an interdisciplinary minor in which students develop an understanding of the factors affecting community health and incorporating a service learning experience, enabling students to work on a public health issue with a community agency. Mental Health Counseling Graduate students in Mental Health Counseling develop competence in counseling approaches designed to meet the clinical needs of children, adolescents and adults through coursework in interventions, assessment, case management, family violence, and other topics. The program meets the requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State.

Faculty Pre-Med Saint Rose pre-med faculty members ensure that students who want to go to medical, dental, or veterinary school have the advice, coursework, and support they need to prepare an effective doctoral school application. Students are guided by the Pre-Med committee, a group of six faculty members who are dedicated to keeping students on-track for their chosen field. Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) The College’s CSD faculty members are internationally recognized for their scholarly work in language development and disorders, voice, stuttering, neurogenic communication disorders, augmentative-alternative communication, speech sound disorders, accent modification and other areas. Sciences In the sciences, professors are conducting research on topics such as the effects of pesticides on the reproductive systems of exposed fish, fetal alcohol syndrome, immunology, and food safety. Counseling Counseling faculty specialize in: relationship building, character education, conflict resolution, violence prevention, grief and loss with children and adolescents, heterosexism, millennial college students and their parents, multicultural counseling, and counseling the developmentally delayed, the incarcerated, and persons with HIV/AIDS.

Internships and Clinical Experiences The College’s location in the Capital District — an area renowned for its scientific, education and healthcare sectors — offers abundant opportunities for pre-med internships in medicine and related fields. Interns regularly work in such settings as Albany Medical Center, New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratories, and the New York State Food Safety Labs. On the graduate level, interns in the Mental Health Counseling graduate program develop clinical skills as they work in a mental health or community agency setting. CSD graduate students com-

plete five clinical placements, starting at the College’s own Emery Center followed by placements in hospitals, schools and rehabilitation and care facilities.

Remarkable Outcomes Graduates from health-related programs have excelled as doctors, dentists, veterinarians, pharmaceutical researchers, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, counselors, cytotechnologists, and medical technologists. Programs for at-risk youth, chemical dependency, vocational rehabilitation, and many others have benefited from their expertise.

Saint Rose alumni are on the forefront of medicine/ research/education in at least 20 different states as well as abroad including leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa for the Centers for Disease Control and facilitating research on Parkinson’s Disease funded by the Michael J.
