Undergraduate Programs: Philosophy Philosophy students sharpen their ability to think critically and objectively, learn to seek out innovative solutions to problems, and gain the ability to analyze issues from many difficult perspectives — all skills eagerly sought by employers—while studying the most fundamental questions of the universe.

Undergraduate Programs: Religious Studies Religious studies majors can specialize in contemporary spirituality, Roman Catholic or Christian Studies, world religions, peace and justice, liturgy, the sociology of religion, new religious movements, or traditional theology.

Faculty Faculty members include Dr. Michael Brannigan — the featured ethics columnist for the Times Union and the George and Jane Pfaff Endowed Chair in Ethics and Moral Values at the College. Each full-time professor has a Ph.D. and have earned degrees from universities such as the University of Leuven, Saint Louis University, Syracuse University and the University at Albany.

Philosophy and Religious Studies majors have become professors and attorneys, pastors and college administrators, labor negotiators and musicians, among many other careers.

Internships Saint Rose students have interned at the Women’s Law Center (Caucus at Albany Law), New York State Assembly, Unity House Shelter, Albany Roman Catholic, Episcopal and Methodist Dioceses, Albany City Council, local hospital hospice and chaplaincy programs, Catholic Worker house, and many other local organizations.

EXTRACURRICULARS The Philosophy Club meets weekly for debates and discussions on issues of the day and other topics of interest. They also present, along with the Saint Rose Ethics Roundtable, the Annual Student Ethics Forum panel discussion. The national Philosophy Honors Society, Phi Sigma Tau, inducts outstanding students into the Saint Rose chapter each year. Each year, in one of the headline events at Saint Rose, the Sidney Albert Interfaith Lectureship series invites one distinguished speaker to discuss a topic related to interfaith dialogue. The annual Vickery Lecture in Ethics in Leadership has featured renown speakers such as Dr. Elizabeth Kiss, president of Agnes Scott College; Jonathan Kozol, education activist and author; and Asra Nomani, feminist activist and author.
