From the EDITOR 2-22-2020 April, Crystl & Joe are on the downhill sside... sliding into the heart of The Corridor with The Course of Your Life Bridal Fair and Style Show! That’s right! 2-22-2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m at Buffalo Rock Golf and Venue. Come and enjoy the style show and vendors on display at this event. I promise you will not be disappointed! Ok, just like last February this old farm boy is going to share some of his high school LOVE life with my readers, but, again, I will not mention names or cities! I’ll call her Jane Doe II. One of my many female relatives set me up with a beautiful friend of her’s whose parents did not allow her to date at the age of 15. Therefore, we would wait until Jane’s parents were sound asleep around eleven o’clock. Jane would then sneak out and meet us in the alley. So far so good, right? Due to my fear of both German Shepherds and Doberman Pinchers in several neighboring yards, which were not just barking, but were trying to jump over the fence, it was a bit more than risky – and mighty scary! Yeahhh, but Jane Doe II, if you’re reading this, you were worth it!
by JOE GOOCH
There is very little time remaining if you are interested in a booth at our Bridal Fair to promote your bridal business. However, I know Crystl does have a few left. Call her at 918-225-9718. I failed to tell you that I plan to have a song in each month’s Editorial. I hope I don’t get into trouble with copyright infringements. So here we go! “Let me tell you ‘bout the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees, and the moon up above, and a thing called LOVE!” YES, The LOVE issue is in your hand. Call me if that song gets stuck in your brain for the rest of the day!

This February, as The Corridor Magazine presents The Course Of Your Life, Annual Bridal Fair and Style Show, The Corridor Closet decided to get out and show off a hidden treasure centered in Stillwater, known as Formal Fantasy. With upcoming bridal fairs and prom planning underway, this unique formalwear boutique should certainly be on your lists of shopping stops. If fact, it may be your only stop once you step through the door and see all Formal Fantasy has to offer. Stacia Smith, of Formal Fantasy, graciously shared a variety of bridal gowns that would entice any bride’s interest. The Corridor Closet model, Maci Brown, being petite in size, proposed no difficulty for Stacia’s incredible bridal selections. You see, when choosing a bridal or a prom gown, Stacia told me it truly is not only the look that catches the female’s eye, but it is a gown indicative of a personality statement. Browsing the colorful and elegant gowns in Formal Fantasy, I realized formalwear includes a magnitude of graceful attire. In fact, there are bridesmaid, mother of the bride and mother of the groom dresses and adorable flower girl dresses. Formalwear is also defined with exquisite gowns for proms, cruise formals, anniversary gatherings and black tie affairs. Just because women usually do the planning does not mean that the men are left out! Tuxedos and suit rental with everything from head to toe is all part of the planning event. Last, but certainly not least are the accessories. A head piece, veil, shoes, undergarments, lingerie and jewelry cannot be forgotten as each will seal the look and set the tone that any bride or prom date would like to achieve. Obviously, these ensembles are not generally hanging in your closet, but rest assured, Formal Fantasy can act as your formal closet! Stacia, an accomplished seamstress and custom gown designer, has more than 20 years experience in this business. It was a joy to hear the passion she feels as she helps plan for new beginnings and a time of change in someone’s life. She can accommodate the entire wedding party or a couple’s complete special formal date. The Formal Fantasy PROMise… once a particular dress/gown is chosen for a prom or special event, it will not be chosen by another for that same event. Hence, their motto and PROMise, “It’s Fantastic & It’s Mine.” Weddings are stressful. Finding the perfect bridal,
prom or cruise gown can be tense. And putting the formal ensemble all together for the big moment is challenging. Stacia faces this challenge head on and plans for last minute obstacles. She even packs a tote bag, a Wedding Survival Kit, which includes, Advil, Benadryl, glasses repair kit, needle and thread, clothing glue and tape, men’s socks and much more to help in an emergency and to help create that just right look and feel! Join The Corridor Magazine, February 22, 2020, at Buffalo Rock Golf And Venue, and experience beautiful bridal gowns and an entire formal fashion show.

PHOTOGRAPHY “A picture is worth....” by ROBBIE McCOMMAS
CARLY COLLINS
PHOTOS by CARLY COLLINS
While moments fade into memories, photos faithfully keep visions alive and link us to our past. That’s probably why photos of family members from generations ago are a treasured heirloom. One thing is promised…..time will move on. Photography today has been modified from the rigid studio, to natural life sessions. The skill of ‘setting the scene’ to help a family be comfortable is an art within the photographer. Capturing raw family moments is unique and treasured. “I was a junior in high school when I began pursuing photography,” says Carly Collins. “A teacher’s encouragement helped me to enter my work in the county fair and I won everything I entered!” The county fair may have been the nudge Carly needed early on to guide her for the next several years as she sought workshops and videos to increase her knowledge. Carly grew up in Chandler, graduated from Oklahoma State University, married, and now is raising a young son and daughter. The family’s recent move to Edmond expanded her business even more in 2019. In addition to her growing career, Carly is awaiting the conclusion of a prestigious contest. She was nominated in the Oklahoma City Metro Area for the genre of ‘Best Family Photographer’. This honor was bestowed upon Carly through admirers of her work; the winner will soon be announced. “Each family passes through many seasons of life,” Carly explained. “Each one is very significant. My primary focus is to capture the season of life at the moment: the kid’s personalities; the way a family plays with each other; the loving way a mom and dad still look at each other~ beyond the chaos! And, that perfect scrunchy-nose face a toddler makes that parents never want to forget. Each photo is a tangible memory that a family can hold onto forever and look back on saying, ‘that season of life was so much fun’.” Carly is a full service photographer including weddings, lifestyle, newborn, family, and seniors. “Lifestyle sessions will forever be my favorite,” she added. “I love seeing families in their element, just loving on each other!” Carly’s work and contact information can be found on FaceBook and Instagram at www.instagram.com/CarlyCollinsphotography n

When I was growing up, I used to believe in the concept of one best friend. And then I grew up and found out that if you allow your heart to open, God will show you the best in many friends. Everyone needs a friend when dealing with love. Everyone needs a friend when going through family issues. One who will sit beside you in the bleachers as you cheer for your children’s favorite activities. They will be there for you when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or even just be with them. One friend will say, “Let’s cry together, let’s fight together, or even let’s walk away together.” You will most definitely need a friend to help with your spiritual beliefs. One will be your outfit coordinator, and one will share your love for movies especially the tear jerkers. One will be your concert friend and one will be there with you when you don’t understand life. Whatever their roles are in your life or whatever the occasion, whether it is day or night, rain or shine, good or bad, or even to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself... THOSE are your best friends. These friends may be one person, or it may be several. It may be one from your childhood, high school, or even college. It could be one from old jobs, or maybe even your mother, sister, or daughter. So, whether they have been in your life for 30 minutes or 30 years, share this with the women that God has placed in your life to make a difference.

LOVE IN GOD’S IMAGE
As Valentine’s Day approaches, I set my heart to finding a perfect way to express my love for my beloved... Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden that its fragrance may be wafted abroad. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. Song of Songs 4:16 (NRSV) In polite company within the church, we seldom mention a most unique book of scripture, “Song of Songs” or as many know it, the “Song of Solomon.” This collection of private love poems, like the book of Esther, never mentions God, but, unlike Esther, Song of Songs never seems to allude to our spiritual faith or life. “Songs” is a series of poetic exchanges between a male and female lover. What makes “Songs” especially unique is that it is the only book in the Hebrew Bible that gives voice to the female perspective, the only place in the Hebrew scripture where that is true. The young woman speaks passionately about her yearning for her lover in over 56 verses, while the male speaks of his love in only 36 verses. My beloved is all radiant and ruddy, distinguished among ten thousand. His head is the finest gold; his locks are wavy, black as a raven. His eyes are like doves beside springs of water, bathed in milk, fitly set. Song of Songs 5:10-12 (NRSV) 40 THE CORRIDOR MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2020
Song of Songs reveals to us one of the most precious gifts God has given to humankind in Creation: love in God’s image. As Valentine’s Day approaches and I set my heart to finding a perfect way to express my love for my beloved, a box of chocolates and a store-bought card hardly seems fitting compared to the passionate passages one may read in Song of Songs. Perhaps my love Connee would be moved by me kneeling and reading a few verses from Song of Songs: How graceful are your feet in sandals, O queenly maiden! Your rounded thighs are like jewels, the work of a master hand. Song of Songs 7:1 (NRSV) The description of his love gets quite a bit more hot and sensual from there. I probably better try my hand at writing a few of my own lines to my love Connee instead. This being our 37th Valentine’s Day together, I might not be able to get back up off my knees! How beautiful you are, my beloved, I am home whenever I catch love’s gaze in your eyes. You never fail to express love even when I’m disheveled by work and care. Your embrace gently reminds me of the goodness of life and invites me to celebrate the gift of us. To Connee my Love, February 2020

NOTES ALONG THE
Corridor SCOTT EVANS –
by RICK REILEY
Rekindling the Flame
Singer/songwriter Scott Evans, was born in Bartlesville in 1968. The second of three (and a half!) boys (he has a half brother and a half sister, as well)! Though he says his immediate family was not musical, he had uncles who played music and he always enjoyed their family reunions in Ochelata where the uncles provided entertainment for the family. He says he got his first guitar when he was eight years old. It was a $30 Stella (a lot of folks started with one of those). He took two guitar lessons. During the first lesson he asked the instructor to teach him how to play ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’. The instructor gave him the sheet music for it and ran through it a few times with him. Then sent him home and told him to come back next week and play it. Apparently he did, but sang it from memory instead of reading the music. The instructor told his mother that since he wasn’t going to read music, guitar lessons would be a waste of time. But that didn’t deter him. He eventually taught himself. And he did it quite well. He considers himself an ‘autodidactic polymath’. I had to look it up, too. It means a self taught person whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas. As a kid he related to the world by constantly drawing, including pen/ink, pencil, illustrations, a little sculpting, and cartoons. Then in the early 80’s his brother was obsessed with the music of ZZ Top so that was always playing somewhere in the house. It grabbed him so much he took his guitar and learned 44 THE CORRIDOR MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2020
the solo part to their song, ‘Blue Jean Blue’ note for note and in so doing, he says, taught himself the pentatonic scale by accident. Somewhere in this time frame the guitar and music began to replace the graphic arts as his tool for coping with the world around him. While attending college in Stillwater, he met Mike Shannon, founder and former owner of Daddy O’s Music Store. Mike had also played guitar with the Skinner Brothers and had attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in California. Scott says that Shannon was also a natural at applied math and he explained to Scott how math related to music theory.
A little later he met Brad James, also attending college, who’d also attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in California. The Brad James Band has a recent CD available from Horton Records, Tulsa. He learned a little from each of these guys and continued to learn on his own. Thanks to them, music was beginning to make more sense all the time. At some point a piano was hauled upstairs to the legendary farm house he lived in just west of Stillwater. The keys were labelled with the proper notes and he began to play and study. Music began to make even more sense as he discovered how the notes related to one another via octaves. “And then ‘things’”, he said, “began to become more transparent.” John Cooper of the Red Dirt Rangers tells me that Scott and the Medicine Show were like ‘brother bands’ back in the 90s. They tended to work to take up the slack left when Cody Canada, Jason Boland, Tom Skinner, and others left Stillwater for greener pastures. A few of the favorite tunes written by Scott Evans are ‘Soul Agent’, recorded by Cross Canadian Ragweed, ‘Make Yourself Home’ co-written with Bob Childers, and Brad James and ‘Hold On Christians’ recorded by The Departed. He shared with me an observation that Tom Skinner had made years ago... Late one night, at the Farm, when he thought no one else was there, he heard the sound of a piano coming from upstairs. Skinner said he made his way quietly up the stairs to observe Scott Evans seated at the piano, practicing, lightly fingering the keys. Skinner stood quietly in the hall, unobserved for a few minutes taking it all in. He told Cooper that was one of the most magical musical moments he had ever witnessed. The bliss of seeing someone learning something beautiful and important, in solitude. Evans was a founding member of Medicine Show, once a staple of Stillwater college nightlife. Evans, Donnie Wood and Kenny Earley began jamming together in Stillwater and soon began playing get togethers in an alley just off ‘The Strip’ near an apartment building. He likened their performances to the old 60s term, ‘hootenannies’. Lots of free flowing fun. Then they got more serious when Brad James became a regular and Medicine Show was formed. The band went through various incarnations and were a very active group in Stillwater and throughout Tulsa’s Green Country from ‘92 to ‘99. According to the Tulsa World, their final show was in May of 1999 at Club One in Tulsa. Those were heady days in the Stillwater music scene. This is where he connected with the Skinner Brothers, Jimmy LaFave, Chuck Dunlap, Stoney LaRue, Bob Childers, the Red Dirt Rangers and all those other Red Dirt early birds. Scott left to finally concentrate more fully on being a husband and father and easing into the everyday work world to firm up the stability and plan for the future. Music took a back seat. But it was always at work in
the undercurrent. After several years in the construction industry, after getting the daughter raised, making music once again reclaimed priority. It’s about time! He played a gig here in Cushing earlier this year and came by for a visit. He performs primarily in and around Tulsa, northeast Oklahoma and the Stillwater area. His new recording project is being done in his cabin in Spavinaw after years of frustration. He says he used to feel like the recording process was like entering ‘The Nine Gates of Hell’, but it’s a process he’s worked hard at simplifying. The results thus far are four finished cuts toward his 10 song project. The first of those, ‘Steel Heart’ is now available online. I found it on Amazon. It is as soulful a song as I can recall…..a fine voice delivering lines like a sermon burned into your memory…. it has a Van Morrison quality. I’ve also likened it to the early Righteous Brothers. Remember them? My favorite line in this song is- “Glad I remembered my mother’s warnin’ -””Learn how to love or love will pass you by.” Truer words were never spoken. And when Scott Evans sings them, you, too, can become a believer. You can follow him on social media, Facebook and Instagram. Delilah’s DILEMMAS
“What is it?” Delilah asked. She stood back a distance from the objects laying on the entry hall floor. Her pewter, puffed-heart key chain, just slightly larger than a silver dollar, had popped open when she accidently dropped it, and a small metallic item, that resembled an electrical fuse, had tumbled out. She had called Eli’s cell phone, and asked him to come to the house. He, Dooby, Damon, and Joel had been at the barn. “Bring Dooby, too,” she’d added. “It’s definitely a monitoring device of some sort,” Dooby said, leaning over the pile of metal. “Well, pick it up!” Delilah exclaimed. “I’m not gonna pick it up,” Dooby declared. “You pick it up.” “Uhn uh. We’ll let Eli pick it up when he gets in here,” Delilah said. “Good idea,” Dooby said. “Not afraid of it, are you?” Delilah teased. “No!” Dooby said. “I’m thinkin’ finger prints.” “Like you could pull finger prints off that thing,” Delilah challenged. “Don’t argue with me,” Dooby said. The back door slammed shut. “What’s all the fuss about?” Eli asked as he made his way through the kitchen and down the hall. Dooby stepped aside and pointed to the metal articles on the floor, while Delilah explained what had transpired. “Where’d you get the key chain?” Eli asked, bending to look closer at the device in question. He scooped everything into his hands. 50 THE CORRIDOR MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2020

“It was Aunt Nettie’s,” Delilah said. “The keys to the Camaro were on it when I moved in. I just added what few other keys I had to that ring.” “I was afraid of that,” Eli said. “Did you know the heart opened?” “No,” Delilah said. “I mean, you could tell it had a seam all the way around it, but I had no idea it could be opened.” There was a moments silence while Eli examined the small monitoring device. “Wait. Did you know it opened?” Delilah asked. Eli shook his head. “Then why were you afraid the key chain was Aunt Nettie’s?” Delilah asked. “Because the person who gave her the key chain would have known that it could carry this particular monitoring device,” Eli said. Dooby and Delilah exchanged a look. They looked at Eli, expectantly. “You know who gave it to her?” Dooby asked. Eli let out a long sigh and nodded. He rubbed the whiskers on his chin and jaw. “George,” he said. Again, with the deafening silence. “George,” Delilah stated. “George
Armstrong?” Eli nodded. George Armstrong was the director of the government agency that had once employed Eli, and more recently employed Blaize who had been mysteriously killed on the Royal Flush Ranch, just months before. George Armstrong was once Nettie Mae Beauregard’s partner in that same agency. “Oh, dear,” Delilah sighed, as she stepped into the living room. “I need to sit down.” Dooby and Eli followed Delilah. Eli sat next to Delilah on the sofa, and Dooby plopped down in the wingback chair. The contents in Eli’s hand spilled out onto the coffee table. “Okay. So, maybe this is left over from Aunt Nettie’s time in the agency,” Delilah said hopefully. Eli shook his head. “How do you know?” Delilah challenged. “Because this particular device,” Eli said, picking up the small cylindrical object, and holding it up for observation. “Was developed after Nettie left the agency. Actually, it was developed after I left the agency.”
“So,” Delilah said slowly. “You’re saying, that device was placed in the heart key chain recently.” Dooby and Eli exchanged a furtive glance. “This could certainly support your theory,” Dooby said. “But you can’t prove George placed it there.” “Who else could it have been?” Eli animated. “Let’s see,” Dooby began, holding up one finger. “It could’ve been Shelly, Blaize’s fiancé. Or Blaize herself. And here’s a theory to gnaw on. Abigail could have planted it when she was here last summer.” The room was silent for a beat. “Oh, my stars!” Delilah exclaimed. “Do you think it was Abigail?” “NO!” Dooby replied with vehemence. “I think it was George. I’ve sided with Eli on this from the beginning. I believe George is now, and always has been, Mrs. Wrigley. Or at least the head of that operation. I believe he recruited Abigail ten years ago, and now she’s the convenient scapegoat. Let me underscore that point. They already have Abigail in custody. And if we go in now pointing the finger at George based solely on this discovery, they will immediately claim that it was Abigail who planted the device.”

“Abigail has to confess,” Delilah stated with a discouraging sigh. “For starters,” Eli interjected. “She has to know that if she implicates George, her life is over. He most likely has assured her that he would get her out of prison if she keeps quiet about his involvement. And given his position at the agency, she believes he can.” “True,” Delilah said. “But after so many days behind bars, surely she would have to start doubting the security of her freedom. So, what’s the plan?” Delilah jumped up and started pacing. “You need to talk to her. But how do you find out where she is, and get access to her without George knowing? I mean you can’t call anyone at the agency for information because you have no idea who might be in on it, or even inadvertently tip George off.” “When you say, ‘you’,” Dooby said. “Are talking to me or Eli? ‘Cause honestly, it looks like you’ve been talking to the area rug.” Delilah stopped and starred at Dooby. “That’s a good question,” Delilah said, and she began pacing again. “You’ve known her the longest, Dooby. And she has this weird fear of you. You’re one
of the few people in this world she can’t intimidate. But Eli, having a history with the agency, might be more convincing. Or a c t u a l l y , E l i ’ s h i s t o r y w i t h t h e a g e n c y m i g h t b e a deterrent.” Eli and Dooby exchanged another furtive glance. And then they both grinned. “So, what’s the plan,” Delilah asked. The following morning, after breakfast, Delilah stood at the back door. “This wasn’t exactly the plan I had in mind, but . . .” she said as Dooby leaned over and kissed the side of her head. “Love you,” he said. He picked up a large duffle bag, and started through the back door. “Love you, too,” Delilah said. “I’ll be in the Jeep,” Dooby told Eli. Eli pulled Delilah into his arms, and kissed her neck, then her cheek. “We’ll call you when we get there,” Eli said. “Probably won’t be gone more than three or four days. A week at the most.” He kissed her lips; soft, long and sweet. When he

Or maybe it’s Robert.” Delilah laughed. “Not even remotely similar,” she said. Eli touched Delilah’s cheek. “I love you,” he said. “I love you, too,” Delilah said. They were gone. Delilah stood alone in the quiet kitchen. There was something eerily troubling about both of them being gone. Delilah didn’t want to feed into the paranoia that suddenly consumed her, so she got busy cleaning house and waiting for the stranger to arrive.
