pay what you decide
NEW!
We are delighted to be introducing Pay What You Decide at The Courtyard! Pay What You Decide allows you to book tickets to a show for free, and then decide what you would like to pay after you have watched the performance. We want to encourage more people to come and see shows at The Courtyard, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not. This season’s PWYD show is on page 23. How does it work? Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, online or via Box Office, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the performance. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience! At the end of the show, our Stewards will be on the door to take payments via cash or card. All money collected will help The Courtyard pay the artists who have performed, and we therefore hope you will give generously!

Straight from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. When a traditional production of Oscar Wilde’s classic play gets underway, everything seems to be going perfectly to plan… that is, until the lead actor fails to arrive on cue. You might think you know this chaotic story of love, mistaken identity and double-lives, but you have never seen it like this before. Filled with wicked Wildean wit and bursting with Bunburying, join us for a hilarious and unpredictable twist on the world’s favourite comedy classic. “A masterclass in comedic theatre” - North West End UK “Get this on the West End now, please!” – Lost in Theatreland 22 22

as she likes it
As SHE Likes It is inspired by the story of #MeToo pioneer Patricia Douglas. A darkly comedic explosion of multimedia, verbatim, cabaret and drag; a contemporary Brechtian-style play that poses the question: How much has changed between the Hollywood of yesteryear and now? Written by Chloe Wade and supported by Olivier Award Winning Playwright, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm; Emilia (The Globe), Obsession (Netflix). Through a fusion of live theatre and filmed footage, As SHE Likes It exposes the cultural legacy of sexism and exploitation that still haunts the industry to this day.
After dismantling a barge, doxxing himself in the Doubletree, and blanking on the 1992 Ipswich Town crest (Taskmaster, Off Menu, University Challenge), Ivo ropes his audience into more chaos against the clock. “Humiliation’s your thing, right?” his brother asked him at Christmas, and, with the full existential ramifications of that still being processed, he’s lining up a show with more risk than ever before (NB: previous shows have broadly been quite low risk). Expect quizzes, tangents, and fluster.

gift aid
helping your donation go further 5,000 people do Gift Aid giving for The Courtyard – could you join them? The number of individuals who help us by gift aiding their donations has passed 5,000. It’s a vital income stream in addition to all our other fundraising and we are grateful to everyone who helps us in this way. In the last financial year we raised more than £7,000 through Gift Aid, but we’d love to get to £10,000 in our 25th anniversary year. If you are a UK taxpayer you, too, could support us with Gift Aid. We can claim an extra 25p from HRMC on every £1 you donate to The Courtyard. As a registered charity it’s a valuable source of income and comes at no extra cost to you. The other thing is, it’s really easy to do! The only condition is that the annual value of the gift aided amounts you make to charity doesn’t exceed the tax you pay. If you are eligible for Gift Aid but haven’t yet filled in a form, we’d be grateful if you could think about completing the simple declaration. Your already generous support for The Courtyard will go so much further. You can download a form from our website or paper copies are available from the Box Office during opening hours. There is also the option to make an online declaration if you use our website to make a donation. When making your declaration, you can include all the donations you have made to us in the last four years. This will help us to claim even more money back from the government. And if you pay income tax at the higher rate (40%), you can claim further tax relief on your own tax returns.
