SUMMER RELEASES
WELCOME
Welcome to the new season here at The Courtyard, and what a season it promises to be! This year on 18 September, we will mark 25 amazing years since The Courtyard opened its doors in 1998 – a fantastic achievement that we’re all extremely proud of. The Courtyard has evolved and grown over the years, but our values and ethos remain embedded; to put the community at the heart of everything we do. We create artistic excellence locally and nationally and build opportunities for all through participation, diversity, and inclusion.
Our exciting 25th Anniversary will bring some very special events in the autumn to commemorate the occasion. In the meantime, I am thrilled to be able to announce that our 2022 Panto, Beauty and the Beast, has seen a Box Office record for The Courtyard, together with our Children’s Christmas production, Snow White. However, The Courtyard, like most households and businesses is having to contend with substantial increases in utility bills, purchase costs and, with inflation at its highest level for decades, the year ahead will be a particularly difficult one. Please, keep supporting The Courtyard where you can, by purchasing tickets, visiting our Café Bar and by donating to this incredible Charity.
The shared dream of a new theatre and arts centre for Herefordshire became a reality in 1998, and we have created a place that we want to keep alive for many generations to come. The Courtyard is an exciting, vibrant and inspiring arts centre for the whole community, and is a vital investment for Herefordshire in arts, culture, education and well-being. I really hope you enjoy looking through our brochure, I look forward to welcoming you back to The Courtyard very soon.
Very best wishes,
Ian Archer, Chief Executive and Artistic Director Beauty & The Beast December 2022 Jane Eyre October 2022 Snow White December 2022 Front cover image: Queenz (p.32)Give the gift of an experience to remember!

pay what you decide NEW!
We are delighted to be introducing Pay What You Decide at The Courtyard!
Pay What You Decide allows you to book tickets to a show for free, and then decide what you would like to pay after you have watched the performance. We want to encourage more people to come and see shows at The Courtyard, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not. This season’s PWYD show is on page 13.
How does it work?
Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, online or via Box Office, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the performance. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience! At the end of the show, our Stewards will be on the door to take payments via cash or card.
All money collected will help The Courtyard pay the artists who have performed, and we therefore hope you will give generously!
GIVE MORE, GET MORE
By becoming a Friend or Patron you will be helping to support key community projects with young and older people in Herefordshire, as well as helping us continue to be the cultural heart of our county. We offer a host of memberships with something for everyone, whether you want to simply support The Courtyard, or benefit from some of our fantastic perks – join us!

Richard Blacklaw-Jones beachcombing art
Richard Blacklaw-Jones is a Pembrokeshire based beach-combing artist. He frequents the beaches looking for what the sea chooses to bring him and makes art from recycled man made materials that he finds. “I like the chance nature of being on that particular beach at that particular time when the wind, the weather and the tides have conspired to land some choice item for me to find. I believe that by opening myself to nature’s whims in this way I become the recipient of its gifts.”

a gift too good to refuse!
Did you know you can make your donations go 25% further?
If you are a UK tax payer, we can claim an extra 25p from HRMC on every £1 you donate to The Courtyard. As a registered charity it’s a valuable source of income and comes at no extra cost to you. The other thing is it’s really easy to do! There is only one condition: the annual value of the gift aided amounts you make to charity doesn’t exceed the tax you pay.
Over 4,500 people have given us gift aided donations over the last few years. In the financial year just prior to the pandemic we raised more than £18,000 in Gift Aid. It’s a vital income stream in addition to all our other fundraising.
If you are eligible for Gift Aid but haven’t yet filled in a form, we’d be grateful if you could think about completing the simple declaration. Your already generous support for The Courtyard will go so much further. You can download a form from our website or paper copies are available from the Box Office during opening hours. There is also the option to make an online declaration if you use our website. When making your declaration, you can include all the donations you have made to us in the last four years. This will help us to claim even more money back from the government. Don’t forget that if you pay income tax at the higher rate (40%), you can claim further tax relief on your own tax returns.
