WELCOME

Welcome to another fantastic and exciting season at The Courtyard. As we embark on another vibrant programme, we hope it will not only entertain you, but also make you all aware of the invaluable work we do within our community.

Join us in our new season by celebrating the transformative power of arts and culture, and how they enrich the lives of our community in so many ways.

The Courtyard has one of the most inspired, innovative, and creative education and outreach programmes in the Midlands, if not the country. Whilst many of you will only come to The Courtyard to see one of our many fabulous productions, shows, films or live screenings, what you may not realise is that we believe in making the arts accessible to everyone. Our outreach programme brings theatre and the arts to schools, local community centres, village halls, residential homes, theatres in the market towns, and many more spaces and places, ensuring that everyone can experience the magic of the arts.

The Courtyard’s highly experienced team bring their passion for the arts providing a supportive and enriching experience to our Youth Theatre, schools workshops and literacy programme, our work with the older members of our community including people living with, or caring for, people with dementia. Through our outreach programme, we help to strengthen our community, and provide a catalyst and platform for shared experiences, unity, accessibility, inclusion, and collaboration.

The Courtyard has something for everyone and we inspire change and well-being through the power of the arts. Our Education and Outreach programme is the ethos of The Courtyard and serves as a cornerstone to our engagement with our community and our education programme provides learning opportunities which provide life skills for many of our younger community.

I hope that you can join us at The Courtyard where your visit promises to be a unique and fabulous experience.

Very best wishes,

pay what you decide

We are delighted to be continuing Pay What You Decide at The Courtyard!

Pay What You Decide allows you to book tickets to a show for free, and then decide what you would like to pay after you have watched the performance. We want to encourage more people to come and see shows at The Courtyard, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not. This season’s PWYD show is on page 15.

How does it work?

Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, online or via Box Office, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the performance. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience! At the end of the show, our Stewards will be on the door to take payments via cash or card.

All money collected will help The Courtyard pay the artists who have performed, and we therefore hope you will give generously!

Relaxed Performance

Sunday 15 December 11.30am

The Relaxed Performance is open to everyone but may benefit individuals with autism spectrum conditions, learning difficulties or sensory and communication difficulties. The aim is to retain all the magic of the theatre experience but in a more relaxed environment through sensitive changes to the performance. We keep the lights on low, the audience is welcome to move around and are not expected to be quiet, a Social Story is provided beforehand and a quiet, sensory room is available if a break from the show is needed.

the courtyard youth board

The Youth Board has been established to give young people the chance to meet and discuss ways in which the Youth Theatre experience could be improved for them. By meeting twice a term we hope to create initiatives and opportunities for all Youth Theatre members. This term they’re predominantly working on:

• Youth Theatre socials and trips

• Continuing to write, create and promote the Youth Theatre newsletter

• Organising fundraising events

• Building relationships with other youth theatres

• Increasing the Youth Theatre’s social media presence

eco update

The Courtyard is delighted to have received a Babboe Curve E-cargo bike awarded from the Hereford E-cargo Bike Grant Scheme. This scheme is funded by the Towns Fund from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The bike will be used for transport to outreach events across the city and as an environmentally friendly way to transport costumes and small props from our stores at Rotherwas and Westfields.

the courtyard means business!

Did you know our charity has worked with hundreds of businesses since we opened 25 years ago? Not surprising given our reach and reputation, coupled with an ever growing footfall of 320,000 per year.

Our busy venue in the heart of Hereford, delivers a packed creative programme of live shows, film, events and life enhancing education and outreach community programmes to all ages, including 90% of all Herefordshire schools, people with disabilities and those living with dementia and their carers.

None of this vital work could happen without the financial support of our many funders including our brilliant business partners who also receive tangible benefits in return! We work with businesses to understand their needs and help them promote their products and services in a range of ways, see below. We can also offer staff benefits and discounts, assisting staff retention.

Business & Supporters Club: many tangible benefits flow from being a member, with prices from £995 plus vat per annum (for a small business).

In-venue advertising: from large impactful landscape size spaces to more intimate A5 advertising spots in high-foot-traffic locations.

Print and digital advertising: get yourself instantly noticed by booking into a premium space in our main season brochure or show programmes.

Major partnerships: boost your brand across the County and beyond over a sustained period by sponsoring in-house productions, events, festivals or with long-term naming rights for an agreed in-venue space.

If any of this is of interest, please get in touch!
