HO
comforts ME Is it time to give your home a little TLC?
‘HOME IS WHERE the heart is’ … this saying may be as old as time but it has never been more important than it was during the recent pandemic.
For many of us, the past couple of years have seen our homes become our workplace, our fitness studio, our classroom, our local restaurant and, most of all, our sanctuary.
Now, as we emerge from the Covid bubble, perhaps it is the opportune time to give our homes a minor (or a major) makeover.
Something as simple as a coat of paint and a change in soft furnishings can lift the ambience of an entire space, while new artworks, lighting or homeware items will add a fresh edge to the décor.
If the budget allows, high traffic areas may benefit from some new carpet or flooring, and a bespoke kitchen or custom window shutters will last for many years.
And don’t neglect your outdoor areas.
With our beautiful winter weather, these spaces are an extension of the home and just as important when it comes to decorating.
So once you’ve decided what needs updating, how do you go about choosing the right pieces?
Contemporary interior design borrows elements from various time periods and adapts them for modern living.
Try mixing statement furniture pieces with unique, artistic accessories for a completely individual look.
Or include some Art Deco accents to add a stylish, elegant touch.
If you’re aiming for the modern, all-white aesthetic, you can add texture with fabrics such as boucle, velvet and wool.
For those brave enough to embrace a more colourful palette, bold, eclectic patterns are making a comeback.
Perhaps, the biggest trend in both furniture and furnishings at the moment is curves … from modern, modular sofas to soft circular cushions, these plush, wavy shapes will give you the comfiest place to relax while also creating a cosy winter vibe.
The circle of harmony
Natuzzi Italia, the Made in Italy lifestyle brand, presents highlights of the latest collection.
NATUZZI ITALIA’S current 2021/2022 collection comes to life within the Circle of Harmony, an inclusive space for participation and comparison between different design interpretations of the brand's DNA.
In a world undergoing a process of total evolution, the brand’s Chief Creative Officer Pasquale Junior Natuzzi invited eight designers to redefine objects and functions in view of the new challenges of everyday life.
To create a blend of experiences and design approaches that could propose different solutions and perspectives, while all sharing a unique and unmistakable trait: the ability to look beyond.
To develop a response to a new concept of harmony as a balance for living in the domestic spaces by adapting them to different functions, facilitating the creation of a ‘new normal’ expressed in the motto Live the Transition – a transition that becomes opportunity and substance, comparison and vision.
“We are all living with a feeling of constant change and transition towards something, a destination that appears blurred,” Pasquale explains.
“The ability to embrace evolution and change and to be enriched by this evolution is an inherent instinct in Mediterranean culture, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for our collections.
“It is precisely from this perspective that we have started this new journey, involving new designers to rethink the way we experience our homes, starting from contemporary living needs and enhancing them through the brand’s innovative design vision.”
The designers involved focused on functionality, sustainability and well-being, starting a new Era of Harmony, once again under the banner of collaboration and sharing.
The warmth of hospitality and the rediscovery of the rhythms of ‘slow living’, which the world is returning to and which Mediterranean culture has known for millennia, have inspired Lorenza Bozzoli and Massimo Iosa Ghini in the exploration of wellness design.
In the same way Sabine Marcelis, Marco Piva and Elena Salmistaro have faced the increasingly widespread need to design flexible furnishings capable of overcoming the boundaries of the internal space of the house in a multifunctional perspective, able to simplify everyday life.
A new, multi-purpose harmony is expressed by the furnishings designed by Patrick Norguet and Formafantasma, responding to the need for home office spaces even in small apartments.
And it is this micro-living, intended as an opportunity to explore innovative solutions without having to renounce the quality of craftsmanship and design, that inspired the project by Marcel Wanders studio in seeking a different way of thinking about the proportions between objects in the challenge.
Thus, the Circle of Harmony confirms itself as a place of circularity, inclusiveness and participation.
A place where union generates uniqueness. natuzzi.com.au

EUFOLIA MODULAR SOFA – MARCEL WANDERS STUDIO
In their third collaboration with the Natuzzi brand – and part of the Circle of Harmony for the first time – Marcel Wanders studio presents the Eufolia sofa. Eufolia is a modular seating system which evokes the lightness of one of the most characteristic elements of the Apulian landscape: the olive leaf. An excellent interpreter of contemporary needs, the Dutch studio imagined a compact sofa in which the slightly flared design of the armrests and backrests gives the project a welcoming aesthetic, while responding to the need for multifunctional living areas with limited dimensions. With its elegant and minimal design, Eufolia is a surprising interpretation of the needs of contemporary living which require a different way of thinking about the proportions between objects.
EMA BED – PATRICK NORGUET

The main bed of the collection, Ema combines a linear and contemporary design with aesthetic details that emphasise the idea of relaxation.
Exuding visual comfort to meet the requirements of contemporary living, the leather or fabric headboard is padded and embellished with stitching – which returns in the bed frame – that underlines its softness.
The bed is also upholstered on all sides – including the back – so it can be positioned in the centre of the room.
The metal bridge foot, in the same finish as the headboard frame, is contemporary in style and extremely modern in terms of design.
Perfectly proportioned, Ema is available in four dimensions to cater for spaces of different sizes. TIMELESS MODULAR SOFA – LORENZA BOZZOLI

With its rounded and elegantly asymmetrical design, Timeless enhances the visual comfort and the idea of slow Mediterranean living.
Welcoming and inviting, featuring soft, deep seats and an organic design, the modules are covered on each side.
They can therefore be used to create countless configurations, adapting to the most varied spaces and needs.
This great versatility is also expressed through different corner elements which allow a high level of customisation.
Available in leather or fabric, Timeless can be considered an ‘instant classic’, a project with a sartorial design combining classic and contemporary vibes, resulting in a sofa that symbolises the idea of harmony that has always distinguished Natuzzi Italia’s vision and research.

Customise your exterior spaces with the stunning new Connubia outdoor collection.
OUTDOOR FURNITURE is a growing sector, thanks to the increasing demand from the private residential world and commercial projects.
The long months of lockdown have pushed people to want to live outdoors, with the real estate sector recording an increase in the demand for houses and apartments with terraces and gardens.
As a result, outdoor furniture has come to enjoy the same importance as the more famous and popular interior designs.
This is has led to a growing business trend that sees the most prestigious indoor furniture manufacturers inserting collections dedicated to outdoor spaces.
The great challenge is to find the right compromise between aesthetics and functionality.
This is where Italy’s internationally renowned Connubia brand comes in, with the manufacturer’s cheerful and colourful world reinventing itself and exploding into a new dimension.
“The desire to be outdoors has pushed us to broaden our horizons, the desire to live in the middle of nature has encouraged us to look beyond the home and to go beyond our comfort zone,” says Massimo Cian, Connubia Brand Manager.
“Hence our ambition to create an outdoor collection has finally become a reality.”
Consisting of 33 models, the new collection was designed as the natural development of the existing indoor one, respectful of the colour palette, but with a range of materials suitable for outdoor use.
Woven rope, fabrics and ceramics combine perfectly with the nuances of metal and aluminium to create seats, tables, sofas and occasional furniture with a cheerful and lively character.
The materials are all easy to care for, quick cleaning, waterrepellent and stain-resistant, as well as UV and fabric fading resistant.
The products follow four colour palettes – saffron yellow, thyme green, lemon yellow and natural – and allow you to create different combinations to accommodate any need and style preference.
“Our furniture is designed by #Connubity for you who are part of it; it is designed to accommodate, to share, to have fun and to be used outside every day,” says Massimo.
“We like to imagine your lunch outside with friends, or your dinner by candlelight as an intimate but always creative and exciting moment where your furniture will be one with you and with your passions.
“We like to think that all these products are perfect for a city terrace, for an elegant rooftop or for a lush garden, large or small.
“Each seat will be perfect for a relaxing and eye-catching green corner, each table will give you the freedom of a recreational moment, each piece of occasional furniture will be the perfect accessory to make your moment outdoors unique and colourful.”

Luxe leather
Dress your leather for winter warmth.

AUSTRALIAN WINTER is in full swing and these colder nights provide the perfect excuse to give your space a little makeover.
When it comes to choosing furniture and home décor to create a warm look and feel, people often lean towards fabric sofas and overlook leather upholstery for their living room.
However, leather can be easily transformed to escape the cold weather just as well as fabric – not to mention staying in pristine condition all year round and so much easier to clean up spills.
OZ Design’s leather sofa range has just expanded with their latest winter ‘22 arrival, Dante.
Shown here in buttery leather in a smooth black finish, the Dante sofa boasts stylish comfort for your whole family to enjoy.
Its sophisticated design elevates modern homes and its dark aesthetic is perfect for this time of year.
Much like our bodies, leather will match the air temperature of the room, whether it be cool or warm.
So the best way to make your lounge cosy and inviting in winter is to layer it with thick, textured décor such as soft throw blankets and a ton of scatter cushions.
Adding in contrasting elements simultaneously creates interest and a comforting aura, like the boucle Baker designer chair and tufted cotton cushions infusing the room with warmth.
The oversized artwork in this space also strikes the perfect balance of nature and drama being the main focal point to draw your eye up towards the high ceiling.
In this setting the Dante sofa oozes confidence with its exposed timber plinths creating the perfect contrast of colours and materials.
With a touch of fluted glass in the Piper coffee table, the Dante can be dressed to impress with each season to come.
By simply switching out your soft décor with different types of materials and patterns, you can transform your living space into endless looks and luxe comfort for the cooler months ahead.
Indulge your home this season and discover the huge range of furniture and home décor online or in store today at OZ Design Furniture. ozdesignfurniture.com.au
Naturally beautiful

Healthy homes from the ground up at Choices Flooring.
WOOL IS ONE of the oldest natural fibres used by humans.
Forming the fleece of sheep and lambs, it is naturally occurring and free of toxins and chemicals (unless added later).
In addition to being soft underfoot and providing visual and physical warmth in a space, the properties of wool – and therefore wool carpets and rugs – provide a bounty of benefits.
Before it arrives in your home, the magical carpet journey starts on the farm, where special breeds of sheep provide carefully selected wool that has just the right texture and shape to be turned into carpet.
Just as it protects sheep from the elements in the colder months, before they’re shorn in spring, wool carpet has wonderful insulating properties which help keep your floors toasty warm in winter and cooler in summer.
Incredibly durable, it also naturally repels and resists stains, disguises dirt, is flame-retardant and is easy to maintain.
Being a renewable fibre, which is produced by environmentally friendly farming techniques, wool is a biodegradable and sustainable resource.
Once it leaves the farm, the wool is processed and turned into yarn to create carpet in a range of styles whether it be an incredibly popular cut pile or loop which doesn’t show footprints.
With variations in fibre height, you can also choose from different textural looks from sleek minimalist lines to unique patterns.
Available in a range of lustres and colours, you’re also spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting your desired shade.
For a cosy bedroom retreat, it’s hard to beat the dramatic dark Temuka Ashbury wool carpet in Horton or Temuka Totera in Wickham.
Alternatively, for a stunning textural look, a wool loop variety like Feltex Stonefields will add comfort to living areas with its lighter colour tone creating a more spacious feel.
For those who suffer from allergies and asthma, the beauty of wool extends to its health benefits.
Wool carpet resists dust mites, mould and bacteria and its fibres cannot be inhaled, making it a great natural non-allergenic option.
Choices Flooring Helensvale have an extensive range of products including over 145 ranges of carpet and 400+ timber, laminate and vinyl samples.
The instore team are on hand to provide inspiration and flooring advice while also managing the installation of carpet, laminate, timber, luxury vinyl and bamboo flooring to the Gold Coast.
Without question, the team’s greatest strength is their collective knowledge and expertise … it is something they are very proud of and happy to share with you to make your Choices experience a great one. choicesflooring.com.au
