2014 Kids' Design An Ad
C-N advertising competition enlists student creativity By JENNY DERRINGER

Hundreds of fifth- and sixthgraders of Defiance County participated in the 24th annual Kids’ Design-An-Ad tabloid. Taking top honors were students from Tinora and Defiance elementary schools. The top prize winner in the fifth grade was Aubary Hoeffel of Defiance Elementary School for her Wendy's ad. Top ad designer for the sixth grade was Christopher Ferguson of Tinora Elementary School for his Sines Excavating ad. They each earned $100 for their efforts. The Crescent-News sponsors the advertising competition, which gives students the opportunity to step into the shoes of advertising

representatives and design ads for area business and merchants. Students also had the opportunity to earn cash prizes as well. More than $700 was awarded to fifthand sixth-graders from Defiance County schools with prizes given to the first- through 10th-place winners from each grade level. The Crescent-News offered a total of $730 in cash prizes. This year’s participants were from Holy Cross Catholic School, St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance Middle and Elementary schools, Fairview Middle School, Ayersville Middle School and Tinora and Hicksville elementary schools. Student artists completed their advertising tasks and the entries were viewed by the local participating businesses which chose one they wanted to represent them.
