APPLIED FOOD STUDIES Bachelor’s Degree YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD THROUGH FOOD. Food, how it’s grown, and the ways global policy influences its sources are all subjects you’ll dive deep into, through a hands-on, experiential approach to learning.

• Study food through the lens of history, economics, anthropology, and ecology, and engage in hands-on projects that extend your understanding. • Specialize a semester of study with an optional concentration in: • Asian Cuisine • Farm-to-Table • Italian Cuisine • Latin American Cuisine • Build a foundation of practical skills and knowledge in culinary arts or baking and pastry arts. • Get real-world experience during a semesterlong internship at one of 2,000+ CIA-approved businesses, and in the college’s awardwinning restaurants. • Travel abroad and immerse yourself in the foodways of another country during the Global Cuisines and Cultures elective.


COOL COURSES Food History History? Yes, it’s cool! Class projects like curating an on-campus museum exhibit and recreating and reinterpreting recipes from a 14th century cookbook show you how food opens a window into understanding societies, cultures, and the world. Food Photography and Food Styling Learn the principles and techniques of creating food-based visual content, storytelling, and marketing through shoots done on location and in the studio, as well as food styling seminars with guest lecturers. Project in Applied Food Studies Pull together everything you’ve learned into a hands-on team research project. Past projects have included designing and constructing the Teaching Garden, creating an on-campus apiary garden and bee hives, and teaching food and nutrition at a local elementary school.
