The Board meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm at the City Council Chambers. Programs and facilities of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry department are available to all persons interested in making use of them. Special needs which require adaptations will be reviewed upon request.
Weather Policy
Outdoor programs will be canceled if weather conditions create a potential hazard for participants. Such conditions include heavy rain, wet field conditions, tornado warnings, lightning, or excessive heat combined with high humidity. Listen to KORN, Q107, KMIT, or Thomas radio stations for announcements, check our website, or call cancellation hotline at 990-6740!
Scholarships Available:
* If the fees are too high to fit your budget, talk to Kevin DeVries, Todd Cavanaugh or Jamie Henkel and arrangements will be made for your child’s participation. ** All scholarships MUST be set up at the Rec Center -you can set up your account at home, then stop in to show Notice of Action Letter from Social Services and we will set you up for a 50% scholarship for programs. Scholarships also apply to Aquatic Center memberships, but are not at the 50% level.

Palace Transit Can Help! Buses are available for transportation to and from the Parks & Recreation programs. Price is $2.00 for a one-way Monday thru Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and $3.00 one-way evenings and weekends. All rides must be scheduled by 4:00 pm the day before (Monday rides must be scheduled by Friday at 4:00 pm). Curb-to-curb service and wheelchair accessible. To make arrangements, call 995-8440.

Join DWU Coaches, Derek Lein & Steph Gabel along with their players as they direct the instruction of the Summer Softball program. Girls will be classified into three age groups of 8U, 10U & 12U. The season will consist of four weeks of instruction, followed by three weeks of games. Equal teams will be formed prior to games beginning. There will be a Softball Open House on Thursday, March 31 at 7:00pm at the DWU Fieldhouse to discuss changes that are being made to the program and to answer any questions you may have. Join Joan Lubben and others from Palace City Pedalers as they incorporate two things kids love, bikes and parks. The purpose of Parent and Child Aquatics is to teach safe behaviors around the water and develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around water.
Preschool Aquatics aims to promote the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills to young children in a logical progression.
The Red Cross recommends age 6 as a starting age for this class, as well as 5-year-olds who have previously taken preschool aquatics without a parent in the water with them. Elementary swim skills are introduced.

The Mitchell Rec Center has been working to develop more usable space for our members, and we finally have it! The MPR is a bright, open area full of a huge variety of fitness equipment! This room houses 19 pieces of cardio equipment ranging from spin bikes to Nu-steps, from treadmills to ellipticals with recumbent bikes and water-rowing machines available as well! We have just added a stair-master to the room to complete the most versatile room in the area! Kettle-bells, medicine balls, dumbbells, a smith machine, various core equipment and a full paramount strength circuit is available as well! LAKE MITCHELL CAMPGROUND
A family camping center overlooking Lake Mitchell with fishing, swimming, canoes, pedal boats, paddle boards, playground, hiking trail and a laundry facility.
The campground includes 49 RV campsites with full hookups and 9 Tent Sites. The campground is open from April 1st through October 31st. Full hookups include water, sewer and electricity. RV sites have 50 amp or 30 amp sites available, tent sites with electricity are also available. Reservations begin online
September 1st each year. Reservable dates are May 15 through September 15. First-come, first served sites are available daily but not guaranteed. Self-pay system is utilized for first-come, firstserved. There is no manager on-site, campground hosts are available to assist campers.
