CDO Workforce Center

The CDO Workforce Center, your local American Job Center, is working hard to help workers and employers get back to business! Our focus had been centered on developing virtual job search tools for job seekers to use. But now, as our area has moved into Phase 4 of NY Forward, we are shifting back to our primary goal of our workforce centers — jobs! Currently our offices are open by appointment only, providing essential services to help both individuals and businesses reengage. And yes … there are many jobs available, as there has been an uptick in health care jobs, health screeners and facility cleaners. Our website at www.cdoworkforce.org is a great place to visit to find Breaking News and the most up-to-date resources. In June 2020, we have had more than 3,000 views and received emails from job seekers and businesses. This is often the first step to getting help for many customers during this pandemic. We also have a monthly newsletter that provides tips for jobs seekers, highlights our monthly programs and activities, and lists job openings, job fairs, etc. It’s easy to sign up to receive our newsletter electronically right on our website. Job seekers can get also get assistance by calling any of our offices. We are able to provide information on job openings, resume preparation and employment counseling on a one-on-one basis via phone and email in Oneonta and Norwich and by individual appointments in Sidney and Delhi. We hope to resume in-person workshops as soon as it is safe to reopen. We are also providing free online courses through Metrix Skill Training for anyone seeking to upgrade his or her skills. You can self-register through a link on our website or call our offices for help enrolling in any of more than 5,000 course options! Young job seekers have programs to help them as well. Currently, 14-to-20-year-olds are engaged in our Summer Youth Employment Program. Summer jobs are available, and youths can call 607-432-4800 for information. We also have a year-round out-of-school youth program serving 16-to-24-year-olds and an onsite high school equivalency classroom. A virtual career pathway website is also available on the CDO website, Virtualjobshadow.com, that provides career assessment and videos on hundreds of careers. We receive additional funding from a federal DEI Grant specifically geared toward helping youth with disabilities explore and obtain employment and training. We have launched an awesome link on our website called “Your Dream, Your Team” that can help job seekers and their parents move toward finding the right path into the workforce. Check it out! We have specialized programs to help veterans, older workers and workers with disabilities. Information is available on our website, www.cdoworkforce.org , or call to get more specific details. Employers are encouraged to contact our agency if they are looking to list job openings or to develop on-the-job trainings for potential employees. We have been able to continue to provide these trainings services and funds during this time of remote working. Contact Information: Oneonta Office, 12 Dietz St., 607-432-4800.
