OVERVIEW

Otsego County is in central New York State, to the west of Albany, southeast of Utica, and northeast of Binghamton. The county is at the confluence of the Central New York Region, the Mohawk Valley Region, and the Southern Tier Region of New York State. Additionally, we are considered as the northernmost county of the Appalachian Region that stretches to the southwest and includes sections of 13 states. As such, we are uniquely positioned to provide easy access to adjacent markets.

Otsego County combines the natural beauty of rural living with all the excitement and convenience of New York’s cities. Shoppers enjoy plenty of options, from the rapidly growing Southside Mall in Oneonta, major “box store” locations, multiple automotive dealerships, grocery store options and the local retail gems that can be found on the picturesque Main Streets throughout the county. Our central position, with easy interstate access, provides comprehensive connectivity to transportation corridors, metropolitan areas, vast recreational venues, and world-class tourism destinations, with both Albany and Binghamton within an hour’s drive.

Otsego County is home to more than 1,200 businesses. The wide variety of products manufactured here includes communications equipment, integrated circuits, pharmaceuticals, transportation equipment, plastic and rubber products, and food and beverage. Other major employers include insurance companies, colleges, healthcare facilities, and retailers. The regional economy benefits from high-technology manufacturing companies such as Corning, Inc., Unison Industries, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Raymond Corporation, Universal Instruments, and others.

Meanwhile, the County has maintained its agribusiness, farming, and forestry base. Otsego County ranked in the top 20 counties in the state for the value of agricultural products sold for six different commodity groups, including milk production, horses, Christmas trees, and floriculture.
