Each of them is currently exhibiting a work at The Discerner’s Residence in Mayfair, which I would immensely encourage you to come and view by appointment, at your convenience. I would however like to give prominence to the work of Los Angeles artist Alexander Mihaylovich who since the late 1980s has been creating works that deal with the fragmentation of history and memory. His works are simply superb In addition, I am hosting a private soiree at The Discerner’s Residence on Wednesday 13th September between 6:30pm and 9:30pm, for you to have the special privilege to meet these extremely talented artists in person. Alexander Mihaylovich “Since the late 1980s, Los Angeles artist Alexander Mihaylovich has been creating works that deal with the fragmentation of history and memory. His most recent pieces are three-dimensional mixed media works that allude to the ephemeral nature of our own time. The juxtaposition of modern industrial fragments with painted Arcadian landscapes and classical forms points to the disjointedness of our own past as well as the complexity of understanding history and time. The layering of found materials, such as plastic or metal, obscures our ability to view the painted image and acts as a metaphor for the destruction of cultural heritage and the environment.”

Michael Batey I have lived in Scotland for thirty two years and was born in Cumbria near the Lake District so you can imagine where a lot of the inspiration has come from. I paint mainly in oil in an ethereal manner painting from light to dark, none of my work is of somewhere particular it’s all in my head; I want the viewer to be transported to some place resembling or would like to find. Because I work outdoors every day I am seeing and feeling weather changes and moods especially if its stormy I seem to have the ability to remember the light.

Christophe Demaitre In question of the artistic direction assumed by Christophe Demaitre, one faces a dilemma. The paradox of photographic imagery derived from a near nomadic lifestyle and whose content appears near centrically oriented to the urban experience and consequent alienation of humanity, and that of a process orientation wherein the artist shatters formalistic boundaries and discards pre-deliberation amidst the chaos of creation. His attention to material and adaptation imbue the oeuvre with a Neo-Dadaist spirit & serve to engage the viewer as he confronts facile dichotomies and roles attributed to documentary and lyrical, poetical photography.

Andy Davey I paint as a form of free expression. I use a range of media; acrylics for their suitability to quick, dynamic “action” painting, oils for their rich depth of colour and beautiful on-canvas mixing effects and watercolours for their luminosity. My abstract paintings mostly come out of half-sleep or meditation, though sometimes they are inspired by natural landscape. I look for a compositional balance between visual “comfort” and chaos. There is for me a point of beauty between the two, though where that balance point lies and whether I ever reach that point will be subjective for each viewer.

Michelle Hold ‘In a world of fast, expanding technological know how, and an expanding number of world peoples who know not who they are, it is invigorating and reassuring to meet people whose firm beliefs are put into practice, to benefit, enliven, and make better, not just themselves but the lives of others. One of them is Michelle Hold, who as artist has made her mark as abstract painter, and carved out an identity for herself. She shamelessly makes vibrant, dynamic, polychromatic, colourful, resourceful, meaningful, strong, sometimes large- sized paintings, that invigorate, excite and inspire. She panders neither to taste ( except of course her own), nor current fads, or the kind of eyecatching, voguish, detritus that currently passes as art, and which is poured out by the ton in every arts quarter of the world!’ Barry Martin, artist & curator

Jill Campbell Jill is based in the North East of England and graduated with a first class degree in fine art in 2014. She bases her work on an ancient mining landscape in County Durham near her home. She uses elements of what she sees and combines these with her imagination to create her bewitching paintings. She is fascinated by this landscape’s strange other-worldly, abstract shapes. Its pools, pathways, mounds, dips and curves are her motifs. She draws and then applies layers of paint, using loose gestural marks until she finds balance and a painterly world emerges which celebrates this landscape.

Claire Newman-Williams Claire Newman-Williams was born and raised in the UK and moved to America in 1988. She worked primarily as a portrait photographer with her work appearing in national and international publications. Returning to the UK in 2005, she began working with alternative processes and old cameras, blending photographs with old text to produce intensely personal multi-media pieces which address the recurrent themes of the smothering of identity and our fear of being seen - truly seen - by those around us.

Asis Camacho Asís Camacho (Madrid, Spain, 1963), is often described as the precursor of the ‘Linearism’, a technique that unveils shocking volumes, lights and shadows of everyday objects, buildings and people, giving the observer very recognisable images, however perceiving them like never before. Straight, cold lines in acrylic ink or even carved in wood creating images and illusions warm in some cases, disturbing in others. He has previously exhibited in Spain (Sotheby´s, Ansorena, David Bradia art gallery) and US (Red Dot Miami).

Agusti Viladesau Agustí Viladesau was born in Barcelona, Spain. He has exhibited in Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, and has won several prizes. He studied Art at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and Art History at the University of Barcelona. “Purpose, aim, intention and concept are only a small fragment of our knowledge, and the painting should be more on the experience than a declaration of intention. Therefore one painting may begin from an idea and then it may become something else, because the painting itself dictates what it wants to be. The painter is just an assistant of the medium that reveals the riddle hidden in his own brain”.

Phil Davison Phil Davison works predominantly in cross-stitch, fusing this traditional hand stitching technique with imagery from his visual universe, a mix of street art and pop-culture. Creating unique hand stitched pieces alongside limited edition prints of his work, Davison has exhibited internationally and amassed a loyal following of collectors. He is particularly inspired by image reproduction techniques striving to replicate these in cross-stitch. To accurately render and mimic the original technique that inspired its conception demands a high level of precision, some pieces taking over a year of hand stitching to complete. It is exactly this dedication to precision which drives Davison’s evolution of this craft into the realm of fine art.

Richard Whadcock “Richard Whadcock is one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists, specialising in atmospheric landscape paintings. His contemporary paintings explore the South Downs and East Sussex coast. Continually trying to capture its ever changing dramatic atmosphere from silent stillness to squally days. The South Downs are only a starting point as the paintings themselves eventually take over and follow their own path creating a unique surface landscape which can transport you back to your own memories of places visited. Richard studied fine art painting and printmaking at Bristol Polytechnic and then went on to complete his Masters at the Royal College of Art in 1989-91. Thomas Strumpel I was born in a place along the Rhine River and then some 20 years later, I studied art in Cologne, a hub for art and artists in Germany at that time. I began with drawings but now my focus is on painting. I work with very diluted watercolours, which I apply multiple layers, until depth is reached in the picture. It creates a subtle colour play. The texture of the canvas is evident and becomes part of the painting. I now live in Zurich, Switzerland and in 2015 Elten & Elten Gallery presented my work for which I enjoyed the exposure.
