Christophe Demaitre In question of the artistic direction assumed by Christophe Demaitre, one faces a dilemma. The paradox of photographic imagery derived from a near nomadic lifestyle and whose content appears near centrically oriented to the urban experience and consequent alienation of humanity, and that of a process orientation wherein the artist shatters formalistic boundaries and discards pre-deliberation amidst the chaos of creation. His attention to material and adaptation imbue the oeuvre with a Neo-Dadaist spirit & serve to engage the viewer as he confronts facile dichotomies and roles attributed to documentary and lyrical, poetical photography.

Helen Jones Helen’s painting has become like her own visual diary, a response to the beauty of the landscape, the elements and moods to which we consciously and subconsciously respond. The smaller canvas allows a snap-shot of energy for a given moment - the essence of the landscape and the day itself. Helen turns feelings into paintings. Changing skies and reflective seas surge with a captive energy creating a drama that warrants a ‘still’. Her paintings are as intuitive as they are contemplative. Her way of working is collective and not dissimilar to literally being with one’s sketchbook. A memoir of the day and place.

John Lendis I was born in the UK and have travelled restlessly . I lived in Afghanistan before the Russian War and lived and worked in Bali which heavily influenced my work. I later moved to Sydney Australia and then to Tasmania where I undertook a BA and MA (my masters thesis ‘Saint Sebastian and the Wounded Forest’). I returned to England in 2009 and am currently living and working in The Cotswolds. Since 2000 there have been over 30 solo exhibitions in Australia, NZ and UK. The work exists in the space between the physical environment which I experience and the emotional landscape that the subjects invoke and inhabit.

Joe Morris Joe Morris is an artist based in Cornwall. His chosen medium is tadelakt, an ancient Moroccan form of polished lime plaster. Joe creates the beautiful polished surface, adding various pigments to the plaster to achieve an array of colours, and then carves simple, elegant abstract markings into the finished surface. The effect is a beguiling and unique style which captures the beauty of the material and conveys something of the elemental forces of nature.

Victoria Kiff Victoria’s paintings are rich in texture and have many complex layers. ‘I paint mainly portraits with textured application of oil paint, various mediums and dry colour pigments. The figures are a poetic seascape. They form a set of oppositions that search for a hidden narrative, through colour, line and instinct.’ Whilst the paintings are influenced by her surrounding’s in the coastal Old Town of Hastings, they can also be traced in memory and the expression of the psyche. Victoria qualified in BA fine art at Central St Martins School in London, she has exhibited widely in London and sold internationally.

Richard Whadcock “Richard Whadcock is one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists, specialising in atmospheric landscape paintings. His contemporary paintings explore the South Downs and East Sussex coast. Continually trying to capture its ever changing dramatic atmosphere from silent stillness to squally days. The South Downs are only a starting point as the paintings themselves eventually take over and follow their own path creating a unique surface landscape which can transport you back to your own memories of places visited. Richard studied fine art painting and printmaking at Bristol Polytechnic and then went on to complete his Masters at the Royal College of Art in 1989-91. He has recently established Chartwell Road Studios in Lancing on the South Coast. His most recent residency was at Cill Rialaig, kerry in 2014.”

Barry Andrews Painting is a means to express how one feels about the world one sees, to help others see the world as a better place that they are able to enjoy and understand it better. The subject in all my work are the ‘lost places’ found along the banks of the River Thames marshes. I graduated from the University of East London in 2010 having studied fine art painting, which was the ultimate experience in a change of career brought about by frustration and the negativity of commercial life. I have painted every day since graduating and have had success in showing my work, being represented by The John Russell Gallery, Ipswich and by Artbridge in London.

Enzo Marra Enzo Marra’s creative practise is concerned with the exploration and pictorial analysis of the art world. The use of texture is of great importance as he feels that it gives the dragging away and building up of pigment a necessary dominance in the created image. These works having allowed him to be selected for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2012 and 2016. He has also recently been a prizewinner in the Creekside Open 2017, selected by Jordan Baseman.

Andy Davey I paint as a form of free expression. I use a range of media; acrylics for their suitability to quick, dynamic “action” painting, oils for their rich depth of colour and beautiful on-canvas mixing effects and watercolours for their luminosity. My abstract paintings mostly come out of halfsleep or meditation, though sometimes they are inspired by natural landscape. I look for a compositional balance between visual “comfort” and chaos. There is for me a point of beauty between the two, though where that balance point lies and whether I ever reach that point will be subjective for each viewer.

Alexander Mihaylovich “Since the late 1980s, Los Angeles artist Alexander Mihaylovich has been creating works that deal with the fragmentation of history and memory. His most recent pieces are three-dimensional mixed media works that allude to the ephemeral nature of our own time. The juxtaposition of modern industrial fragments with painted Arcadian landscapes and classical forms points to the disjointedness of our own past as well as the complexity of understanding history and time. The layering of found materials, such as plastic or metal, obscures our ability to view the painted image and acts as a metaphor for the destruction of cultural heritage and the environment.”

Michelle Hold Feelings, emotions and the scarcity of beauty in current times inspire Michelle Hold to paint, creating abstract works which hold a special connection with the viewer, a personal moment frozen in time where all is possible. Time spent to study architecture has influenced her construction methods, creating images with multiple layering while her experience in the textile industry has formed her equilibrated use of color. Her paintings which vary in size and style are created with ‘dance like’ gestures. They are dramatic yet peaceful, loud and vibrant with space for quiet contemplation. They are the artists visual representation of the eternal energy of the universe. Born in Germany, Michelle lived long periods of time in Paris, New York, Hong Kong, London, now she is based in Italy, close to Milan. She has exhibited solo shows throughout Europe and China , participated in group shows worldwide and in international art fairs in Berlin, Milan, Miami, Athens, Vilnius.

Thomas Strumpel I was born in a place along the Rhine River and then some 20 years later, I studied art in Cologne, a hub for art and artists in Germany at that time. I began with drawings but now my focus is on painting. I work with very diluted watercolours, which I apply multiple layers, until depth is reached in the picture. It creates a subtle colour play. The texture of the canvas is evident and becomes part of the painting. I now live in Zurich, Switzerland and in 2015 Elten & Elten Gallery presented my work for which I enjoyed the exposure.

Louise Dear Louise Dear’s paintings are a sumptuous feast. Seduction is her aim and her works skillfully demand you to experience the delight with which they have been created. They are expertly fashioned using a multitude of media; golds, glitters, glosses and Swarovski crystals layered on panels of aluminum. Louise’s works are addictive and many of her collectors become obsessed with surrounding themselves with the pure pleasure they portray. Having exhibited extensively, these works have sparked the interest of several major museums and are held in numerous collections including those of Rick Stein, Qatar Holdings and Sir Elton John. Hugo Farmer Conflict, contradiction and downright fury runs through Hugo Farmer and his work like ‘Brighton’ through seaside rock. So, although his imperiously figurative bronzes subvert age-old traditional forms to wreak silent havoc and invoke chaos there’s no escaping the reverence, craftsmanship and, yes, sheer graft in his art. While the sun and the resin are slowly setting on other works, his new paintings are a rare instance of symmetry and order amid his barely caged anarchism. And their highly finished, tactile, landscape-like topography is alive with a joy and exuberance of colour quite unlike his other works. Parsimonious yet liberal; chaotic yet ordered; iconoclastic yet committed to the craft of his art, Hugo Farmer delights in the random.

Gayle Storey Gayle Storey’s current work is founded on biologist Ernst Haeckel, with the permission and collaboration MBLWHOI Library in Massachusetts USA. The work creates a parallel between the morphic resonance of a bird’s spirit and the fragility of life. Ornate embellishments are carefully placed upon the canvas, gilding her work to a level of richness. Gayle studied at UCA, MA in Fine Art, receiving Distinction. She is currently an Artist in Residence on the TestBeds program at the University of Bedfordshire, sponsored by the National Lottery and Arts Council England. Her practice is adaptable to various art forms such as painting, printmaking, sculpture and art installations, and her work is moulded around her imagination, sharing this experience with her audience, by guiding them into new territories of art appreciation. .

David Henty David Henty’s history as an art forger starts, appropriately enough, with a conviction for forgery in the mid-1990s. It was while serving the resulting prison sentence 27 years’ ago that David was inspired to start painting by a rekindled passion for art. Quickly seduced by the technicality of copying and, having honed his craft over 25 years, he is now considered one of the leading copyist painters worldwide. Having mastered the techniques and idiosyncrasies of some of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries’ most iconic artists, from Pablo Picasso to Caravaggio. David Henty Art has now been formed in to a thriving business where we are now represented by numerous established galleries around the country, involved in various projects with television and magazines and this year are branching out Stateside!
