Google's robot cars have now clocked over 4,8 million kilometres of real world driving and their systems are ready to be applied commercially. Reuters reports the alliance between the two companies is the tip of the iceberg in current developments in the autonomous car sector, which many believe will soon grow into a multibillion-dollar industry. Ford plans to have a fully autonomous vehicle in
commercial operation for a ride-hailing service by 2021. Chinese Internet company Baidu aims to deploy its robot cars commercially as early as next year, 2018. In Singapore, Delphi and its rival nuTonomy are testing autonomous vehicles. Uber has also partnered with automakers to test robot cars vehicles in Arizona. Apple recently received a permit to test vehicles in California and Tesla is using data collecgted from their self-drive software to refine its system onan ongoing basis.
