n the current IoT era, the healthcare industry is generally placed in order to operate the ever-increasing amounts of data since data is the new currency currently. These vast volumes of data are used by healthcare solution providers to create personalized healthcare plans that will help in the prevention of spreading the illness. The healthcare solution providers provide the solutions that leverage IoT devices and sensors—smartwatches, sensors, and fitness bands. The devices are helpful to trace the health of the users and to alert the doctors and hospitals when the patients are in need of immediate medical attention. Thus, the doctors are updated with the medical history of the patient without the necessity of a pre-visit.

The most recent and prevailing trend in the healthcare industry is Augmented Reality and Virtuality Reality. The AR/VR technology helps in making the process of healthcare much easier. With the assistance of these technologies, patients can see the procedures which educate them after the diagnosis. It can be used to train the doctors as well in order to increase their proficiency at a significantly faster rate. Precision medicine, integration of blockchain technology, and the use of cloud technology are just some trends in the pharmaceutical industry. Precision medicine is the process of personalized medicine based on a specific patient diagnosis. The advantage of using precision medicines is that it has demonstrated a higher level of effectiveness than other options. Additionally, the integration of blockchain technology within the industry has expanded in the financial arena, others have started to identify ways to use this innovation. And cloud technology enables pharmaceutical companies to partner with multiple stakeholders with a greater level of effectiveness as executing a strong infrastructure using cloud technology also offers an opportunity to improve the integrity of data. In this issue of The Enterprise World, The Most Trusted Pharma & Life Sciences Solution providers in 2020, we are featuring the businesses in the healthcare industry that are helping to change the market scenarios with their innovative and comprehensive solutions. The feature for the Cover Story is Orbytel Group. During an interview for the TEW segment, read out a discussion with Satya S SSagi—CEO of Techsol Corporation. Some of the other interviews included in this edition are Sarah Hoit—CEO of Connected Living, Mr. Anupam Chatterjee—Founder and CEO of CEMPIA, and the leaders of Phronetik. robably the biggest challenge in the healthcare industry today is the usage of scientific and clinical data in a strategic way. Most people consider the healthcare industry behind the times, seeing how the deployment of technological advances is comparatively slower in the sector. But with its awareness, people are now turning to scientific intelligence.

Scientific Intelligence supports informed decisions based on the knowledge acquired by collecting, evaluating, analyzing and interpreting scientific data. This process may sound really easy, but in fact is tedious once you get to it. Dedicated to make it easier for medical, commercial, and business development teams, Orbytel Group provides AI-enabled, technologydriven solutions to manage and act on scientific intelligence. Orbytel Group provides cloudbased software that helps medical scientists, marketing professionals, and business development leaders collect, manage, and act on scientific intelligence. Their

software helps teams easily find, analyze, and summarize scientific data from different sources. This in turn supports R&D efforts to discover new therapeutics and/or find new uses for existing therapeutics. Their customers consist of most of the major global biopharmaceutical companies.

We help teams gather scientific insights, identify and engage scientific expertise, perform comparative analyses of trial data, and translate this intelligence into investor-grade financial forecasts and narratives.

home-grown tools to help manage an increasing volume of sensitive data and automate repetitive data handling tasks. As their tools improved, the customers noticed and wanted access to them. And eventually this led them to make a strategic decision in 2016 to focus on the software exclusively. Moving from a services company to a software company was a difficult transition from an organizational and operational perspective. The team had to change their mind-set, alter their internal operations, revamp the sales, marketing, and account management functions, and more. It took a couple of years for them to work out the operational kinks and get accustomed to a product development culture. It was a steep learning curve for everyone.

The Inception While the business started about 11 years ago in 2009, it has changed during that time. Initially, the company provided professional services and supported M&A transactions with financial forecasts. As this business grew they began investing in developing

“Our growth has been pretty steady and largely based on word-ofmouth. We have been focused on working with large companies and refining our product.” Coming from a professional services background, the Orbytel team views account management

and customer support as strategically important. This has helped them have nearly perfect customer retention for 8 years and organic growth through word-ofmouth. “At the end of the day, what has helped us survive all the ups-anddowns so far are the good working relationships with our customers.” The Products and Services Orbytel Group has several integrated products that support teams with different aspects of scientific intelligence. Their products revolve around a common core -- a comprehensive ontology (data structure) that organizes and standardizes scientific information so that it can easily be comparatively analyzed. They employ advanced analytics, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML) that they have been refining for the past 5 years to make this happen. This core forms the foundation for their products: Insights, Meetings, Trials, and Forecasts. Insights helps teams identify, review, and summarize relevant scientific content from scientific abstracts and publications. Meetings helps teams collect scientific input from scientists. Trials helps compare and contrast clinical trial data across trial-arms and/or trials. And Forecasts helps translate scientific intelligence and understanding into financial considerations and scenarios. The fundamental difference with their solution is that they have a single data structure and a single code-base that supports all of their products. And that means if you are www.theenterpriseworld.com

looking at a financial forecast, you can literally connect every dot between a high-level assumption and a set of data points that may be in a scientific paper. Its seamless and intuitive...no moving between applications or dealing with different UIs, etc. It is a single application with a single userinterface. This difference enables Orbytel to have a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for scientific intelligence -- beginning with a scientific abstract and ending with a financial projection. Finally, their highly structured data structure has enabled them to embed AI in various areas. At the product level, each product has a full-set of features that were developed through close partnership with the biggest global pharma companies. So, our products tend to be intuitive for teams and address most pain points right out-of-the box.

with the business needs and practical implementation concerns of the customers. The customers tend to be cautious with new technologies and features. So, it becomes mandatory for them deliberate a lot and discuss potential development areas with the customers to help the team align their efforts with their needs. It's a balancing act. For the past years, most of Orbytel Group team’s time has been focused on improving their NLP and ML engines. This work is largely in the background for their customers, but it's pretty exciting. The team is working towards offering an API that will allow people to use the AI component of their software independently. Essentially, this will allow for customers to access structured and processed data across medical conferences, PubMed, and clinical trial registries based on their scientific interests.

The Road Ahead The Team There is a lot of work to do towards that goal. The team is trying to balance what they think is “cool”

Culture is one of the most important things to establish. Team members and teams change as a company evolves. But, culture needs to stay steady. At Orbytel Group, they have a flat organizational structure and entrepreneurial environment. Team members have a high degree of autonomy and accountability with clear goals and timelines. They communicate openly and honestly and the leaders maintain this by striving to provide transparency on company decisions and financials. They have very few formal meetings, and when they do they are short and for making decisions. All of this translates into a team that gets a lot done with minimal stress and still has plenty of time to have fun outside of the office. Be cheerful, loving and helpful… people will pay you in kind. Listen more and talk less… no one learns anything while talking. Be wary of giving advice…. the wise don’t need it and fools won’t heed it. Do not equate money with success…. what counts most about success is how it is achieved. Be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and wrong… sometime in life you will have been all of these.

T

echnology has become a cornerstone of our lives. It complements human intelligence beautifully, allowing you to achieve more with the information you have.Technology has the potential to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare. Mr. Anupam Chatterjee, Founder, and CEO at CEMPIA, A leader passionate about innovative technology is making disruptive changes in the healthcare sector with his highly efficient team. CEMPIA stands for Customers Experience Management Platforms for Insights and Actions.CEMPIA is a Multi-channel, Multi-lingual, Digital Patient Experience Management Platform to understand Patient Experience at every touchpoint in the Hospital. In a talk with Mr. Anupam, let’s discover his entrepreneurial journey since the beginning and their comprehensive offerings in the technology landscape. • What inspired you to start the company? Please brief us on the company. Till 2008, I was working in corporate. My motivation was to go up the corporate ladder fast and then I went to do my MBA studies in HEC Paris and MIT Sloan. This was a transformational experience for me as it inculcated in me to create things, reshape the future, 18

create jobs, contribute to society, and make the world a better place. When I started working post-MBA, I joined teams on business innovation and capability creation and then I started winning entrepreneurship challenges. This combination of creating new things and winning entrepreneurial challenges propelled me to start TheDecisionLabs in 2014. TheDecisionLabs is a production company specializing in customer experience management. Presently we have a portfolio of 3 products – CEMPIA, Liveserviz, and KlikHelp • What were the initial challenges you faced? We are in the field of Customer Experience and it’s associated with a certain image in India, where we started. When you think of CX in India, you think of an air hostess, or a receptionist or a call from the contact centre or guest relation officer in the hotel lobby. Rarely do we think of an analytical embedded platform to enhance the customer experience? So creating the awareness of product based CX and creating a category is both challenging as well as rewarding. • Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? After opening TheDecisionLabs in October 2014, we started getting traction from late 2015 till early

2017 and then we got our first major breakthrough in 2017 in Malaysia and this is the point where the company started growing and getting international. Our horizons broadened and we started creating world-class products for the international market. • How have the company graphs changed since the foundation? Can you share a few statistics? From a small setup in a garage in Indiranagar, Bangalore to opening offices outside India and having 9 international partners with product deployments in 6 countries, TheDecisionLabs has come a long way in the last 6 years. CEMPIA is the flagship product of the company specializing in many in Patient experience management, but now we get lots of interest from hospitality, banking, retail, etc. With the advent of COVID, now we are also focussing on remote service management through Liveserviz, and a real-time automated help system called KlikHelp. So we are increasing our product portfolio, our geography reaches as well as the industry horizon. • What is the reason behind your company’s long-standing success? I think 2 main reasons are driving our success for the last 6 years. • Customer obsession, making sure we do everything to ensure their success

Also every year we present every team member token of appreciation in the form of gifts, being part of TheDecisionLabs family. • Is there any special experience with your clients you would like to highlight? With time many of my clients have

become my extended family, I feel their pain and try to solve them. There are numerous instances when the client has opened up their challenges and how we can help them – the sense of trust, a feeling of partnership is what makes the journey worth it. We are in most cases working together for a better outcome, a better world. • Whose business story do you find the most inspiring? I admire originality. When you create something new and make the world a better place. In recent times, I find Ritesh Agarwal of OYO quite inspiring. He has created a great business model with original thinking and perfect execution. • Constant vigilance- a need or a strategy? Please share your views. A balance is an optimal combination – it’s just like flying a kite: sometimes you let it float and

sometimes you make a few strings pull. • It’s a rat-race out there. How do you cope with that? I visited Rishikesh in 2018 December and it had a profound impact on me. I do not compare myself with any other individual. I am not in a race, but in a journey meeting people, appreciating interactions and slowly but surely moving towards my destination. AI

has entered mainstream marketing, bringing changes one thought would be impossible to accomplish. AI has established a strong presence in many sectors, industries, with a proven track record. It is a system that can be used to perform tasks such as problemsolving, decision making, and even diagnosing diseases. The best part, it learns as it grows and handles more data and customers. Coming back to its use in marketing and how it has changed the industry. AI marketing leverages technology, increasing ROI (Return on Investment), target audience with precise decisions, and much more. With the integration of tools such as ML, Data Analytics, etc. one can find insights that would give marketing strategies a definite edge.

websites, etc. that you recently searched? This is all AI, finding the right people and providing them ads that match their searches and demands. This saves up a lot of time and costs as AI directs these ads to potential and interested customers only. Another valuable application of AI is Chatbots, and it has already proved to be a game-changer. We are all aware of them but smart chatbots will revolutionize it completely. They will be able to initiate conversation, discrepancy, etc. on a real-time basis. The time is not far away when these chatbots will be able to engage in sales, lead generation, etc. AI marketing is on the verge of becoming the next big thing to happen in the marketing industry! Back to the Future?

Traditional Marketing with modern solutions! AI is changing the face of marketing, in every possible way. Digital marketing is on the rise and AI innovates and adds value to it even more. Content curation and generation are enhanced with AI providing viable topics and even curating initial drafts. AI can not only generate content but also place it on the right platform for the right people. It can also help out with mapping out end-to-end content strategies, and much more. AI marketing enables enterprises to unlock the full potential of digital marketing. This is crucial as many refer to digital marketing as the only type of marketing. Apart from this, AI with other tools can predict and analyze customer behavior and trends. This data brings insights that can be used to carve personal and unique content, strategies, etc. giving a personal touch to the products/services. And we all know that a personal touch is the key to convert and retain customers. AI also ventures into digital advertising and fits right in the sweet spot. Do you see the ads of products/services on apps,

If Moore's law holds, we cannot fathom what AI will be able to accomplish in the future. The innovation of AI and its integration into varied sectors has surely boosted the growth and functioning of enterprises. As its applications are being unveiled and enhanced, the future looks promising. With all being said AI marketing serves as a much-needed change in the marketing industry. It has its pros, a wider and targeted reach, better interaction and support to customers, personaliz ed emails, ads, etc. And has its downsides, repetitive ads, data security concerns, etc. With technology advancing faster than ever, whether this is good for us or bad, only time will tell. But for now, the work and results speak for themselves, and it all is exemplary and thrilling. “What all of us have to do is to make sure we are using AI in a way that is for the benefit of humanity, not to the detriment of humanity." -Tim Cook, CEO of Apple

Interview with The Enterprise World

Connected Living Reinventing

C

onnected Living, is a mission-oriented social impact company that respectfully connects an aging population to community, family, and friends. Let us find out more about it in this interview with Sarah Hoit, CEO of Connected Living. Tell us about the company. Based in Quincy, Mass., Connected Living was founded in 2007 to provide technology solutions to senior living communities to help them to deliver compassionate care, and to help seniors and their families to communicate better. Connected Living helps millions of older adults to bridge the “digital divide” and better connect with their families and communities, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. Hundreds of communities nationwide have worked with Connected Living to increase occupancy, reduce employee turnover, and enhance the quality of life for seniors and their families. What were the initial challenges you faced? We built a new market that did not yet exist – many of the senior living buildings did not even have

Senior

Wi-Fi for our products to work. Was there an exact point in your business that triggered its growth? Over time, with the decision makers being family members of older adults, if families knew they had a choice of having their loved ones in a connected or a disconnected building, we knew they were not going to choose a building without connectivity. Now, with the global pandemic, innovation will fast forward a full decade. Overnight, our products and services went from “nice to have” to essential. You will not find any open senior living buildings now operating without a powerful virtual connection for residents to connect with their families and address their healthcare needs. What is the reason behind your company’s longstanding success? Since I was little, I have always had this sense that life is short and everyday matters. I always knew that I would do something with my life to give back to others. I have always been interested in giving back to the community, and in service and politics. I have watched people who did things they loved and some who did not, and that made an impact.

Living At Connected Living, we are passionate and enthusiastic about our company’s purpose of helping people. We take calculated risks. We push the envelope and oftentimes take the road less travelled. The Products/Services What are the products/services the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market?

Connected Living is well known in the senior living industry for bringing technology – Temi robots, mobile apps, in-room programming, smart home & voice technology, and more – to seniors in long-term care facilities. The technology encourages resident engagement and inspires our aging population to increase their communication and connection with others to live healthier lives.

Connected Living Co-founders

Is there any new addition to the list of products/services? Anything exciting you would like to share? Connected Living and Temi recently announced a global partnership in response to COVID19, in which the most at risk population – older adults – need enhanced ways to interact with family, community and medical professionals from a distance. Connected Living is now the U.S. partner and distributor of Temi powered by Connected Living, an interactive robot that has been introduced to senior living and healthcare facilities. The partnership with Temi is the latest addition to Connected Living’s comprehensive COVID-19 emergency toolkit, which enables senior living communities to manage outreach across all its constituents, including those who work and live inside and outside the property. Connected Living’s suite of technology services is geared at 28

creating connected communities for seniors, which includes a roster of pre-configured iPads, tablets, Alexa-enabled skills, a unique TV channel with programming designed for seniors, and a private smartphone app that helps them stay more connected with their families and one another. How do you decide to take the company a step further in terms of your products/services? While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused turmoil for everyone, we knew that Connected Living was in a position to do an extraordinary amount of good. So, we recently accelerated the company’s technology offerings to help major universities across the country – in similar ways that it has successfully helped senior living facilities. Knowing how essential student and faculty safety and engagement is (for both in-person and distance learning), Connected Living is now helping universities, like Texas A&M, with everything from handsfree temperature capture and mobile attendance tracking to

private mobile apps and engagement programming for its nursing program. Leadership What do you think are the responsibilities of an entrepreneur? Be passionate and enthusiastic about what you do. Help, care for, connect and protect people. Take calculated risks. Push the envelope and take the road less travelled. Work hard. Can you please brief us about your professional experience? What are the key achievements of your entrepreneurial journey? I am a serial social entrepreneur who co-founded Connected Living in 2007 after witnessing my grandmother’s battle with Alzheimer’s and monitoring my grandfather’s care (from a distance) at an assisted living facility. I saw the need for technology to improve connection and communication between older adults and their families, friends, and healthcare providers.

My passion for innovation and social impact started at a young age. While I attended Dartmouth College, I crossed paths with Al Gore and ultimately ended up working on his campaign. After graduating with an MBA from Harvard Business School, I worked in the White House as Deputy Director of National Service, where I wrote the business plan for AmeriCorps and managed its rollout in 1993. (In its first year, AmeriCorps enabled 40,000 youth to serve their country by addressing unmet needs in education, environment, and public safety.) After the White House, my passion for education guided me to create a Baltimore-based company called Explore, Inc., which provided homework support, study skills and physical activity for middle-schoolage children across the country. I did this after seeing kids get out of school at 2 p.m., and then get into trouble while their parents were still working. (The company was so successful that, within five years, I sold it to one of my largest competitors.) How do you look after your employees? What makes your team unique? Our team is diverse yet close-knit. Everyone brings something different and valuable to the table. Each one of us is driven by the need to make a greater social impact; we are not just looking to make money. The double bottom line is very real in our company. Is there any special experience with your clients you would like to highlight? I loved rolling out our program with the District of Columbia and Atlanta Housing Authorities. A

you are not trying hard enough. They were all good lessons to learn to make impact and change the status quo.

connected life for seniors and others living in poverty means access to education, jobs, healthcare, and more of an equal playing field. We had lines around the hallways for residents to get to our classes and access their first computer labs. Personal Questions Can you tell us what your favorite book is? And your favorite part of the book (if any)? My favorite book is “The Killer Angels: A Novel of the Civil War” by Michael Shaara. I love to read history and this story of the Battle of Gettysburg always moves me, especially when Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (a teacher from Maine) holds down Little Round Top and saves the battle for the Union by charging downhill with bayonets because they were low on ammunition. Bravery, leadership, and courage combined at that moment to help change history. One person who you admire the most? I admire my mother and father the most. They have shown by example (my whole life) how you can be there for your family, do good in the world, and run a business at the same time. In the work environment, one of my first mentors was Al Gore. I worked on his ‘88 presidential campaign and was working on environmental issues. He showed me the power of deep knowledge on a topic, doing something you are passionate about, and to hire a team who will challenge you (and will not just say yes to all of your ideas). He also often said that if you do not make a mistake, then

Whose business story do you find the most inspiring? I am endlessly inspired by Steve Jobs and his passion for innovation and creating what others could not even imagine at the time. My favorite quote of his is“People who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.” Which is the most inspiring quote you have ever heard? The Robert Frost poem, “The Road Not Taken,” symbolizes my personal and professional journey. I never took the job or did what people expected me to do. I always took(and still take) the road less traveled. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” Constant vigilance- a need or a strategy? Please share your views. Constant vigilance is a need. You have to be driven to be better, to innovate, to listen, to adapt and to grow every day. It is a rat-race out there. How do you cope with that? I love nature and the outdoors. Something about it gives me a feeling of community and community service. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, riding horses and sailing.

As value seekers, we should look out for companies who value their customers as much as the environment. With sustainable finance, one can fund these enterprises and take a step towards a more sustainable future. Many organizations such as WWF are working towards integrating environmental considerations into the mainstream finance and lending sector. Identifying sustainable opportunities, collaborating with banks, financial institutions, etc., spearheading the need for a sustainable economy. A good investment creates wealth, not money Sustainable finance has brought major changes to the functioning of businesses and investing. All this adds to a greater benefit to everyone, investors, customers, and most importantly the world we live in. We need to be more cautious about the environment. We, investors, have the power to change the world. And if a step in the direction of environmental conservation and preservation earns us a good return, then why not! “Sustainable development is a fundamental break that's going to reshuffle the entire deck. There are companies today that are going to dominate in the future simply because they understand that”. - Francois-Henri Pinault

E-MARKETING?

September 2020

T

here is a huge been a spurt in business ventures and start-ups, especially since the wake of the pandemic. This calls for radical ideas and innovation in many fields, most importantly, marketing. The traditional marketing strategies and methods have been effective in recent times, but the pandemic and the norms it brought pushed the need for reform in the marketing industry as a whole. E-marketing has been there since the past decade, but the momentum has radically changed in the past years. As the competition in the market gets fierce, companies strive to aim for the podium, and OLM (Online Marketing) can prove as a crucial advantage to fetch that goal. The population of netizens is on the rise, with nearly 80% of the world population seeking the internet for information. The Internet has become a rich source for Ecommerce websites and companies to reach the target audience and have a pan world presence. Another factor expanding the importance of E-marketing is the rising expenditures on advertisements, email marketing, etc. OLM has become a need for any business in today's time, if you still wonder, read on to know the good and bad of the same. Any marketing is Good marketing? Marketing has again come into the limelight and enterprises are sparing no cents to win the race in the market. Some advantages of E-marketing are: - Wider Audience Pool Undoubtedly one of the best pros of E-marketing, a pan world reach. Now an enterprise is working on a multinational level since day one. This makes reaching the target audience accessible and cost-efficient as no physical outlets are required. - Visible Results As every transaction, inquiry, etc. is done online, it becomes easy and accessible to track traffic, popularity, etc. of products/services. Enterprises can keep a track of sales, feedbacks, etc. all with a click, making tracking of business performance simple.

- Convenience and Connection With everything working over the internet, enterprises can work 24x7, and customers can access the same at their convenience and comfort. This is a crucial advantage as it saves time and cost as there is less expensive as compared to offline stores. Excess of everything is bad, and E-marketing has its cons too. Some of the cons of are: - Legitimacy and Clarity As there are a lot of websites, it becomes difficult to judge the legitimacy of the same. Another factor that gives the clarity away is ads that fill the pages, making potential customers turn away. - Specialization E-marketing, however easy it sounds, requires specialists with experience and the right skills. To get maximum footfall or traffic, one requires knowledge of SEO, SEM, etc. that requires specialization. - Reach and Reality As OLM offers wider reach, areas with less connectivity, the elderly, and illiteracy are deprived of the benefits of the same. As online businesses run on word of mouth publicity and feedbacks, people often post negative feedbacks to put down the competition. Marketing, making business easy? E-marketing has surely benefitted customers and enterprises alike, but the question of its viability and sustainability remains. It is surely changing the new normal but also rising concerns. OLM is growing and tends to provide a platform where anybody can start a business of their own. This has brought a lot of products/services at competitive prices but also doubt on the source of legitimacy. The question of its relevance remains, as it dwells too deep into a person's personal space. As nobody likes recurring emails, messages, notifications, etc. but where does one draw the line? This remains a question for enterprises and marketing agencies, whether they want E-marketing to be a boon or a bane.
