A devicehavingacontinuallyrevolving laserbeamisknownasaLIDAR(or "LightDetectionandRanging").It emitsinaudiblelightpulsesinall directions.Itcandistinguishtheform andpositionofsurroundingobjectsby measuringthetransittimeandlocation ofreflectedlaserlight.Self-driving carsfrequentlyincludeconventional radarsinadditiontocamerasand LIDARs.Althoughradarscanonlysee inahazymanner,theyareexcellentat detectingmovingthingsandarefar lessexpensivethanothersensors.
