Addressing Medical Needs with Innovation
I
nnovation in the field of medical devices wasn't a much anticipated one but all the more necessary. The traditional devices just could not cope with the rising and different needs of the patients. And especially so regarding orthopaedics. One is a scenario where with Robotic Surgeries, doctors have been able to cure patients quickly and efficiently, it needed a strong support of medical devices to make the revolution happen. Featuring for The Enterprise World's this issue of Most Promising Digital Health Solution Providers in 2022 is Hyprevention, a company focused on addressing medical needs with innovation. In this interview with Cecile Vienney, CEO, let us know more about the journey of the company. Tell us about the company. Hyprevention was founded in France in 2010, to develop innovative implantable medical devices for the orthopaedic surgery in order to address bone fragility. The idea of bone reinforcement came from Orthopaedic Surgeons. Seeing more and more elderly people coming to their hospitals for hip fracture treatments and any osteoporotic fractures due to aging and growing population, they think on developing unique solutions. After studying the market opportunity and project
feasibility, the surgeons and I have created the company together. What were the initial challenges you faced? As new born star-up company, the initial challenge for us was to raise more money than our own investment to support our first product development up to commercialization. Therefore, we met business angels across Europe to convince them on our revolutionary and unique technology. Our financing partners are doctors and entrepreneurs. They understand our business in medical devices and the challenges linked to entrepreneurship. They are very supportive since the time they join the founders 'team. Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? Today, it's clearly the 510(k) clearance that we have received in March 2020 that gives us the best opportunity to growth our company and business. After few years exploring the EU market, the new EU regulation limiting drastically the introduction and even the maintenance for innovative products like ours, we put all our energy and resources to enter the US market and deliver quality products.

What are the products/services the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market?
What are the key achievements of your entrepreneurial journey? As you says, it's a journey. Almost, every day is an

Our products are developed according to the clinical needs and market needs. The clinical need is identified by reviewing the scientific literature and by talking to surgeons who are expressing the gaps to be filled based on their daily activity at the hospital. Then, we make sure that these needs correspond to a large population, a sufficient market.

Our today focus is the US launch of our device VSTRUT© Vertebral Implant. The V-STRUT© proposes an unique solution on the market, with a pedicle anchorage that is going to significantly improve the clinical performance for vertebral fracture treatment. Moreover, our device is very simple to use and reduces the per-operative complications. Finally, as already said, we have a reasonable pricing positioning, and a very good margin, leading to a win-win-win situation. A win for the patient who will receive the best treatment for their pathology, a win for the payers with an affordable pricing and a win for Hyprevention with good margin.
MAY 2022
That is why we have started by developing YSTRUT® Hip Implant to prevent hip fracture. Hip fracture is a worldwide public health issue with the growing and aging population. Osteoporosis, leading to hip fracture, is a major burden for the society. Then, we have develop V-STRUT© Vertebral Implant to address an unmet clinical need in the field of vertebral fracture, meaning treat with long term efficacy the fracture (avoid refracture) and prevent adjacent fractures at the upper or lower level of the vertebra, as observed with the products on the market.
Is there any new addition to the list of products/services? Anything exciting you would like to share? Our technique is called the STRUTPLASTY. It is the combination of a polymer implant with bone cement. The PEEK polymer we use presents mechanical characteristics close to the normal bone. The STRUTPLASTY aims to reinforce the bone with an anatomical solution, avoiding extra stress. After Y-STRUT® for hip and V-STRUT© for vertebras, there are other bone location that will benefit in the STRUTPLASTY technique. What do you think are the responsibilities of an entrepreneur? In the case of medical device company like Hyprevention, the first responsibility of the entrepreneur is the patient, the customer. We develop quality products with a real clinical need to serve the patients. To do so, we need a strong team : shareholders, able to understand the need of investments prior, an operational team engaged in the product development, and a pool of supporting and skilled surgeons who contribute to the products development. The responsibility of the entrepreneur is to find the right people and any stage, in order to build the best strategy and proceed with the best execution. Can you please brief us about your professional experience? I am a Mechanical Engineer. After several years in different industries, I joined STRYKER Spine where I developed innovative medical devices as Global Program Manager during 10 years. Then, I became Chief Operational Officer at VEXIM, a French start-up, during 2 years. VEXIM was acquired recently by STRYKER Spine for more than $180M. After this tremendous experience, I founded Hyprevention, 10 years ago, to develop the fracture prevention market in hip.

The 5 Most Important Questions To Ask Your Dental Implant Provider!
A
beautiful smile speaks louder than words, and that’s why dental implants are so important; they can provide attractive stability so that you can move through your day with confidence. Before you get your dental implant procedure, these are Important Questions To Ask Your Dental Implant Provider to ensure a safe surgery with lifelong success. 1. What Kind of Formal Education in Dental Implantology Does your Dental Provider Have? Knowing more about your dental provider’s training and education is an important part of selecting a dental professional. Ask them how long they spent in training and what kind of continuing education they’ve received, recommends Dr. Amanda Sheehan of Oakland Family Dental in Waterford, Michigan. She is a diplomate in the International Congress of Oral Implantology, which is one of the only board certification programs in the U.S., and she has completed more than 2,000 hours of continuing education that includes dental implants. If you’re concerned that your dental provider doesn’t have extensive education and training, Dr. Sheehan advises that this is not the time to be shy. “Ask them what kind of guarantee they offer, how many of these implants have they done before, and what’s their success rate. You need to make sure that you have confidence in your provider,” she says. 2. Does your Dentist have a CBCT Scan in their Office? While the term CBCT or cone-beam computed tomography may be unfamiliar, this is just a 3-dimensional imaging machine that allows the dental provider to get a more detailed look at all of the features of your mouth. A typical X-ray offers a 2-dimensional look that

highlights bone structures but a 3-D image includes the thickness of your jaw bone and the location of your nerves, artery, and more. Dr. Sheehan says this advanced view is necessary for dental implant work because it allows the dental provider to have a better road map for the procedure, identify areas of greater risk, and appropriately plan to reduce those risks. “We have a CBCT right here in the office and I use it every day to make sure that my patients are safe. I would never place an implant on somebody without one, and I would never let somebody in my family have one without one. It’s just too risky. The technology is here to help us make this very easy for you,” Dr. Sheehan says. 3. Will the Dental Implant and the Crown be Placed in the Same Office? In some cases, getting dental implants requires the work of two doctors. There’s the oral surgeon who places the implant, and a dentist who puts on the crown. There’s nothing wrong with this arrangement as long as those doctors work closely together to ensure you have great results with your dental implants. Doing things this way can take a little more time and add a little more expense because there are two doctors involved in the process, but some oral surgeons and dentists make great teams and have worked in collaboration for the benefit of their patients for years. Dr. Sheehan suggests finding a team with a proven track record of success in placing dental implants or finding a single dental care provider who can complete both the implant and crown procedures.

4. How is your Dentist going to take into Account your Specific Medical Conditions? In Dr. Sheehan’s experience, the success of your dental implant procedure rests heavily on your personal medical history and conditions. In Dr. Sheehan’s practice, she may work with a patient’s primary care physician if the patient has low Vitamin D levels; achieving optimal Vitamin D levels can improve the outcomes of dental implant surgery. Being a smoker is a common health concern that can affect the success of dental implant surgery and healing, too. When talking to your dental surgeon, be sure to inform them of your full medical history and any medications you’re taking so your treatment plans can be customized to your personal needs. 5. How Accessible is your Surgeon after Surgery? Being able to contact your dental implant surgeon after your procedure is critical. If you have a question about healing, a suture comes loose, or you’re wondering whether you can eat a particular food, you’ll want the comfort and reassurance of being able to talk to your doctor. If you have to travel a long distance for care, as happens when people choose to have implant surgery internationally, you may not be able to return to your doctor’s office easily if there’s a concern. Dr. Sheehan reminds patients that having a surgeon who communicates well helps ensure a great dental implant experience. Keep these questions in mind when evaluating oral surgeons to increase your chances of positive outcomes with dental implants. Everyone wants a beautiful smile with secure and healthy teeth. Qualified dental professionals will be happy to answer these and any other questions you may have about the dental procedures best suited for your oral health goals.

Enabling Excellent Medical Communication
C
hallenges in systemized medical communication have been mounting for years, and there have been very few companies identifying the problem and brainstorming a solution that fits. Fred Lizza, and the team of Statum Solutions have been among the few who have found the perfect way to end this significant problem plaguing healthcare. Featuring for The Enterprise World's this issue of Most Promising Digital Health Solution Providers in 2022 is Statum Systems, a company that is enabling excellent medical communication. The CompanyStatum Systems is a healthcare technology start-up founded by healthcare professionals in the Boston medical community. Concerned about the fragmented state of medical communication systems in hospitals and medical centres, and especially with the continued use of traditional pagers and other single purpose applications and devices that require care team members to constantly juggle from one system to another. To address the issue, Statum created a unified medical communications & collaboration (UCC) platform, StatumHEALTHtm, that simplifies workflows for care team members with a focus on improved patient care. Statum also invented an optional device in the form of an ID badge holder that captures pager signals and sends them via Bluetooth to StatumHEALTH on the user's smartphone.
This device, StatumCONNECTtm, eliminates traditional pagers without losing the reach and reliability of pagerfrequency messages. StatumHEALTH also collects comprehensive data regarding medical communications, and analysing it to identify opportunities for workflow, patientcare, and financial performance improvements. This data-driven component of our solution will grow in importance as StatumHEALTH collects more data and applies AI-based tools and predictive analytics to the data in future releases. Overcoming the Challenges“Statum is poised to explode in 2022 as we move from beta testing to commercial release of StatumHEALTH.” Statum's initial market response has been overwhelming. Every physician, surgeon or medical professional who sees their solution wants it. This is because, for the past two decades, hospitals have accumulated many special-purpose and single purpose communications systems. They don't interface with each other, only address one or two aspects of providing patient care and require care team members to jump from one system to another. Statum's leadership team is the perfect blend of medical professionals and technology executives. Several cofounders have deep medical experience while our CEO, SVP of Corporate Development and Advisory Board members bring many years of success in launching and growing technology-based enterprises.

As COVID has taxed hospital staff to the limit and identified a clear need for medical centres to upgrade their IT infrastructure. The medical UCC platforms will streamline care team workflows, reduce communicationbased errors and delays, turn beds faster and enforce HIPAA and security compliance. Like many other industries, medical communication infrastructure is evolving from disparate point solutions to integrated platforms. The Service DirectoryLow-Frequency Pager Messages Directly To Smartphone
The Products and ServicesStatumHEALTH's competitive advantage comes from three distinct capabilities that the above-listed competitors cannot match:
Delivery of lowfrequency broadcast pager messages directly to the smartphone A patient-centric architecture An enterprise scale unified medical messaging and collaboration platform – not a single purpose messaging system.
Pager service providers broadcast their pager messages over low-frequency bandwidths, providing greater reach and coverage and higher reliability. That's why over 80% of US hospitals still use pagers – so critical messages can be received immediately in all areas, even places like radiology suites, where WiFi, 5G and cellular signals are not reliably available. Statum uses multiple communications modalities, including direct receipt of pager messages by StatumCONNECT, to ensure efficient message receipt while not losing reliability. “By using our patented technology, we maintain the reach and reliability advantages of low frequency pager messages, but deliver rich messages directly to the users' smartphone without store and forward delays.” Patient-centric Architecture Given that many of Statum's founders come from the clinical world, the team has built their architecture from the ground up to focus their communications around the patient. Their “patient sessions” function deliver a communications forum that allows for synchronous and asynchronous communications across care providers. Competitive solutions do not facilitate a patient-centric method of communications that allow for all the patient's care team members to have instant insight on patient interactions and data. Instead, competitors rely on standard peer-to-peer communications that lead to siloed communications, necessitating repetition for those not included. “Our patient session design enables all of a patient's care team members to share the same dialogue and be alerted to any changes or updates to the patient's condition.” By unifying communications around the Patient Sessions, Statum facilitates efficient communications and create a

natural hub for communications data collection that provides insights neverbefore seen by hospital administrators/executives. Enterprise UCC Statum believes that after years of investing in limited, single purpose medical communications systems, the healthcare IT market is entering a cycle where these disparate systems will be gradually but consistently replaced by a unified medical communications and collaboration system. The move to UCC's will simplify learning and onboarding of team members, streamline workflows and improve communications – all resulting in better and more efficient patient care, faster bed turnover and few errors. This is consistent with cycles in other maturing markets, where single purpose systems were replaced by integrated suites and platforms. Fred Lizza- Leading the Way“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new” To say the least, Fred is a serial CEO. He has previously held the role of a CEO at six other software basedtechnology businesses. Fred is typically introduced to an organization through the investors/owners of a business, either early in its life cycle to launch and scale the business or at a later stage to reposition the company to better achieve its potential. Fred has led multiple companies to successful exits by acquisition and he has also grown a company and led it through its IPO and secondary public offerings. He has launched new products into the AI, ERP, eCommerce and supply chain markets.

Considering Your Medical Career Options? The Aesthetics Industry Is Calling
W
hen you wish to hop on the medical industry, the good news is, there are so many career options from which you could choose. Careers aren’t only limited to the usual medical procedures in the hospital, if this isn’t what you’re after; there are other sectors within the medical field like in therapy, the academe, dentistry, and even the aesthetics industry. In America and in Canada in particular, the aesthetics industry is a booming one. So many more men and women across all ages and demographics are keen on having aesthetic procedures done. Some require surgery, while others are non-invasive. But even for the latter, medical expertise is still necessary to ensure top-notch results. If you’re still on the fence about it, this post should give you convincing reasons why you should consider entering the aesthetics industry. Read on! 1. High In Demand In Canada, cosmetic nurses are in high demand, much like in other places around the world. Technological advancements have also brought more treatment options across different budget ranges, which has made aesthetic treatments more accessible to many people. Aging is normal, but its effects can be slowed down through various procedures. This means men and women around the world are now more than willing to spend for aesthetic treatments, just to keep the largest organ in their bodies healthy. This demand presents a wide financial opportunity for clinics to open and medical aesthetics industry nurses and dermatologists to enter the aesthetics industry. As such, those willing to adapt to the current trend will have flourishing careers with competitive pay.

2. Have More Control Over Your Time
4. More Time To See More Patients In A Day
Unlike other medical professionals working in a hospital setting, working in medical aesthetics enables you to have more control over your time. Dermatology clinics usually follow regular business hours. However, if there are no patients or scheduled appointments for the day, they can opt to open later, if they have something else to do. This means it’d be easier for you to adjust your weekly or daily schedule according to your preferences and also your patient load.
Economically, you may also be able to see more patients in a day. Depending on the procedure your patients have, some may even be as quick as half an hour, such as for Botox treatments. For as long as you don’t skimp on the quality of service just to see more patients in a day, you could potentially earn more when you admit more patients.
Most importantly, unlike other medical professionals, you neither operate on an on-call demand nor would you have to do graveyard shifts. This is definitely a major plus, especially for those who have familial obligations.
Schedule-wise, this also means you don’t necessarily always have to go beyond your clinic hours just to fit all your patients within the same working day. More so, the bigger your clinic and the more staff you’ve hired, the higher the number of visitors that can be catered to simultaneously. Conclusion
3. Work In A Fulfilling Field When you’re working in a career where you have a sense of fulfillment, your working days are going to be filled with so much pride and joy. It’s a false notion to think that those who undergo medical aesthetic procedures are only in it for vanity. Some may be suffering seriously from a lack of confidence and self-esteem due to their physical imperfections. You can change their lives, even if it’s only through the job that you do. You can make your patients feel a lot better about themselves by giving them a newfound sense of confidence. Furthermore, you get to witness your patients’ transformation, and you may even leave an impact on their lives, emotionally and psychologically, by simply being with them every step of the way.
40
MAY 2022
As you can see, working in medical aesthetics is a very attractive work opportunity. This is a great sector for those who wish to work in healthcare but don’t necessarily like to be in the hospital. In Canada, the USA, and even in other parts of the world, there are so many training opportunities you can avail to receive the proper certifications necessary to be qualified in medical aesthetics. For as long as this is a field you’re excited and keen on entering, you’ll find your workdays to be exciting. It’s fulfilling work too when you get to change the lives of your patients by giving them newfound confidence to let their inner beauty shine.

or a long time now, every individual working in the healthcare has been struggling to help their patients get better. What could fasten the process is if the professionals knew what the patients are at risk of beforehand. This is nothing but the new developing technology of predictive analysis which is now being used widely in healthcare. This has enabled many healthcare institutions to help their patients in a better way. Featuring for The Enterprise World's this issue of Most Promising Digital Health Solution Providers in 2022 is US HealthCenter, a company providing this technology to help it partners. In this interview with Mr. Gavin Quinnies, CEO, find out more about the journey of the company. Tell us about the company. USHC was founded in 2003 by myself and Dr. Raymond Gavery, MD. While I was pioneering self funding and onsite healthcare and leveraging IT in the industrial arena, Dr. Gavery was pioneering onsite and near site clinics and predictive health. Our unique combination of the same principles from different angles made for a highly productive approach. Within a few short months we launched one the first online health portals in 2003, our Personal Health Dashboard. The PHD combines DNA, biometrics, medical and Rx claims, demographic, wearable, lifestyle and payroll data in our Health Risk Assessment, which when added to lifestyle data is the predictive model
for the member. In 2015 the Intel GE Validation Institute 'validated PredictiMed's™ ability to identify and lower the predisease high risk level, which may precipitate a higher use of ER and hospital services, in thirteen major disease categories to a lower level where the pre-emptive intervention can be applied and thus reduce the incidence of ER visits and hospitalizations between 80 and 93%. Our evidenced based science and PredictiMed™ technology suite, combined with our Wholeistic™ Care navigation activates, educates, guides and incentivizes members to manages and improve health. In 2019 USHC was third party validated at the highest level for Care Navigation, and in 2020 for Population Health management, also at the Gold Level. Currently we are pursing having our financial predictive model third party validated. With over 100,000 active members in nearly all US states, and 19 years of experience with 100% employee retention, USHC has built one of the most deep and wide PHM platforms anywhere. What were the initial challenges you faced? The concept of disease prevention was new in 2003. Yes there were pockets of it in areas such as fitness, nutrition and so forth, but it has been an upstream battle. Today predictive medicine is still early, and USHC has over 20 years of experience in the game, yet we are still trying to change the paradigm.

Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? We started using our predictive modelling and engagement in the insurance industry, building selffunded and voluntary benefit products with partners. This provided a better platform to leverage our risk management toolset and combine our engagement systems. The PredictiMed™ predictive model has been third party validated by Intel/GE Validation. In February of 2015, the Institute had the opportunity to validate PredictiMed's™ ability to identify and lower the predisease high-risk level, which may precipitate a higher use of ER and hospital services, in thirteen major disease categories to a lower level where the pre-emptive intervention can be applied and thus reduce the incidence of ER visits and hospitalizations between 80 and 93%, depending on the disease category. Lower back pain outcome was the only disease category, which resulted in a 17% reduction from the critical risk level to a lower, less emergent level.

Our evidenced based science and PredictiMed™ technology suite, combined with our Wholeistic™ Care navigation was third party validated at the highest level for Care Navigation in 2019. Additionally, in 2020 USHC received the highest recognition in our industry for by receiving the Gold Health Value Award for Population Health management. What are the products/services the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market? The PredictiMed health management system comprises of a Personal Health Dashboard™ (PHD), health coach tracker, corporate health profile, health counts, Sweeper™ medical and pharmacy claims analytics tool, and content management system. The PHD is a dynamic and comprehensive user portal utilizing a responsive design that provides a seamless, personalized user experience. It incorporates an inclusive health profile and medical history chart with periodic and episodic medical information that can be accessed at anytime and anywhere. Being a safe, encrypted medical site, the PHD has a medical passport with personal, medical and insurance information, as well as a comprehensive health and wellness management site. PredictiMed's Health Coach Tracker tool aids practitioners in overseeing interactions with participants such as setting goals, tracking appointments, collecting data on attained and not attained goals as well as billing the payor for encounters. The tracker is also a data mining tool which uses filters to perform searches to a wide array of categories including participation, demographics, lifestyle categories, disease categories, predisease risk levels biometric test values, Wellcentive Score and many other parameters. This allows for targeted interventional strategies not available in any other platform. The administrative reporting dashboard provides a confidential executive summary report that is based on the analysis of health risks and behaviors. USHC provides not only the technology, but healthcare advocacy services such as prior authorization, large case management, disease management, predisease management, and lifestyle management benefit enrolment and benefit advocacy. This service line of Wholeistic™ Coaching is significantly different than the traditional multi specialist and siloed approach prevalent in the industry today. In 2004 USHC recognized this creates unhappy user and low engagement experiences and so created the Wholeistic™ Coaching approach.
The Company also was asked by a leading health science university to create a coaching certificate program for senior level students, and so a 5 credit course was created in 2010, which is now available online. Because of the use of this science, technology and advocacy approach, USHC is the only organization to be validated for Care Navigation. Validation Institute, an independent, objective, 3rd party organization focused on changing healthcare, validated US HealthCenter and its PredictiMed™ Population Health and Wellness Analytics, Predictive Modelling, Engagement and Care Solution to receive the highest award of recognition in the category of “Care Navigation.” Care Navigation is a sub-discipline of care coordination that aspires to steer patients to the most appropriate and effective clinical provider. According to the Institute, what put PredictiMed™ over the edge was validated analytics leading to preemptive interventions that can reduce the incidence of ER visits and hospitalizations between 80 and 93%.
