Biostadt India Limited Empowering Farmers Globally to Yield Quality Crops

W

ith every new dawn, there is a new rising technology that is accelerating growth and transforming the business sectors. In these changing times, the agriculture sector is also adapting with the innovations and technology that are adding a boost to the green economy. In this scenario, Biostadt India Limited is empowering farmers with their highly productive biological products. Established in 2003, today Biostadt India Limited is a very diversified agrochemical organization with a ground presence in biologicals, crop protection chemicals, aquaculture inputs, hybrid seeds, custom manufacturing, and international operations.

In a conversation with Mr. Juzar Khorakiwala, Chairman & Managing Director of Biostadt India Limited, we discussed the current industry scenario and how Biostadt India Limited is transforming the agriculture sector across the globe. 1. Brief us about your journey, what inspired you to start Biostadt?

Mr. Juzar Khorakiwala Chairman & MD

16 | April 2021

What inspired me to start Biostadt India Limited, is the fact that agriculture is a very critical industry in India that employs over 40% of our population. Hence, if India needs to grow, it has to focus all its efforts on this sector which is at the bottom of the pyramid. India’s per capita agricultural input use is the lowest in the world and therefore the opportunities

R&D that present themselves in the value chain are immense. Biostadt India Limited was founded in 2003 and has flourished into a robust organization operating all over India with subsidiaries in the Philippines, Vietnam, and exports to around 15 countries worldwide. Over some time, Biostadt has diversified into a range of seaweedbased biological inputs using fermentation technology, under the flagship brand called ‘Biozyme’. 2. What is the reason behind your company’s long-standing success? There are multiple reasons why our company has been successful over the last 17 years. We have always delivered high-quality and

efficacious products to our farmers. Our consistent focus on biologicals, which are ecofriendly and organic, has made us the largest organization offering biologicals in India today. Biostadt India Limited is a high-performance and professionally driven organization where people are at the center of all our strategies and executions. Most of our people have been associated with us at all levels, ever since the inception of the company which has thus, provided stability throughout our journey. The three birds of our tri-bird logo represent Speed, Growth, and Teamwork, which has inspired Biostadians to reach our goal of surpassing 1000 crore by 2021. Through our vast digital network, Biostadt has become a highly

digitized organization that seamlessly connects suppliers at one end and customers at the other. Our open, transparent, and trustbased culture has been highly appreciated and accepted amongst all our employees and partners. I often hear about our ex-employees wanting to return to the company because they miss this very open and transparent culture that exists within Biostadt. 3. What are the products the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market? Biostadt is a pioneer in seaweed extract-based biological products which are highly effective for crop health and a quality yield. Our flagship brands ‘Biozyme’, www.theenterpriseworld.com | 17

| Interview With The Enterprise World

‘Nanozim’, ‘HyZyme’ and globally known as ‘Wokozim’ are novel non-chemical, non-toxic, and eco-friendly seaweed extract-based biostimulants. The fermentationbased biotechnological inputs are widely accepted by farmers all over the world. Leveraging our demand from the farmer community, we have also launched new formulation products such as DeLite, Nano Drip, Rejoice, Amaze XL, and Nanozim NXT. Soon we will also be coming up with Cradle and Mobilizer brands, which are Mycorrhiza-based products enriched with seaweed. Helping farmers meet today’s agricultural demands, Biostadt products enhance soil health, makes the nutrient uptake better, provides stress-tolerance, increases root growth and the overall yield of the crop. Biostadt also deals in crop protection chemicals, representing renowned Japanese multinationals such as Mitsui, Hokko, Sumitomo, Nippon Soda, etc., covering a range of applications in insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and weedicides. We have also ventured into a range of aquaculture products for pond management, 18 | April 2021

with an alert field force to cover the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. Biostadt entered into a 50/50 joint venture in Vietnam known as VinhThinh Joint Stock Company which focuses on the area of aquaculture. We continue to diversify our business in the area of agrochemicals covering the IndoChina region. Biostadt has also acquired a shrimp hatchery off the Nhatrang coast of Vietnam to strengthen the aquaculture business portfolio. 4. According to you, how has biotechnology changed the agriculture sector in India? Biotechnology products are the fastest-growing segment within the agricultural inputs sector in India and also the world. It has consistently shown double-digit growth whereas the chemical sector is growing at about 3-5% year on year. There is tremendous awareness for ecofriendly, non-soil damaging products which are engaging the attention not only of the farming community but also the general population at large. What started as a small initiative in this segment by Biostadt in India, has

emerged into a growing agri-inputs segment in India and worldwide. Biostadt India Limited has been a pioneer in this segment. 5. How do you decide to take the company a step further? Over the years, Biostadt has grown organically through product diversification, market expansion, and adding related businesses like seeds, a separate division for horticulture crops (InGene Organics Pvt. Ltd.), and also related acquisitions in aquaculture in Vietnam, and the acquisition of Nandi Seeds Pvt. Ltd., in the last few years. This strategy has paid rich dividends and we will continue on this road map for future growth in related agricultural segments. Specifically speaking, we are working very aggressively with Japanese companies to bring to market patented molecules which will be commercialized in the next 2-3 years. This will propel the company’s growth to a different level. 6. Being a successful leader in the biotechnology landscape how do you increase the quality and speed of business processes?

We are increasingly using IT processes in our areas of customer connect amongst our sales force who are digitally connected. Our manufacturing and supply chain processes are completely digitized on the SAP platform. Our HR processes are now getting implemented from a hire-to-retire model and are getting completely digitized as well. This brings transparency, quality, and speed into our whole operation. 7. What do you think are the responsibilities of an entrepreneur? An entrepreneur’s responsibility is typically to be on a prowl for opportunities, settle on ideas, convert into a business model and execute them with speed. The result of this process is the responsible welfare of its people at all levels and in the ecosystem, he operates in. 8. Why is it said that the workforce plays a vital role in every business’s growth? Please tell us about your team. It is true that people in any organization are fundamental to its success or failure. You cannot buy people with money like you do with machines, materials, technology, etc. People need to be nurtured and given the right conducive atmosphere. They need to be provided with a long-term vision and direction in which the organization is heading. Their career path needs to be aligned with the company objectives. Biostadt is extremely fortunate to have a strong leadership team at all levels. Our leadership ladder program identifies individuals, right from the lowest hierarchical levels to the

very top, which serves as a tremendous direction and motivation for competent and capable individuals to rise to the top. This has been supported by novel compensation-backed schemes to drive business growth. We have very strong employee engagement programs across the organization which involves their families frequently. 9. Can you please brief us about your professional experience? I am a pharmacist by education and an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management, Philippines. From 1973 to 2003, I have been involved in our family’s pharmaceutical business before I decided to engage in the agrochemical business wherein I founded Biostadt India Limited in 2003. From a modest turnover of around INR 60 crores then, we have reached INR 1000 crores in 2021. Apart from being the Chairman and Managing Director of Biostadt India Ltd., I am the President of BASAI (Biological Agri-Solutions Association of India), which is a group of like-minded individuals from within the industry, who understand the importance and need of government regulation in the biostimulants segment. I am currently the Vice President of IMC (Indian Merchants Chamber) and will become President of IMC later this year. I am also Chairman of Akbarallys Men, which was relaunched in 2015, as a high-street shopping destination designed for the modern man. Previously, I was the President of the Rotary Club of Bombay Central (2002 - 2003), involved in various fields of social work. President of

the Asian Institute of Management Alumni Association (India) since 1990 - 97, Chairman of Life Science & Biotechnology Committee (2001 - 02) of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber Managing Committee, Vice Chairman of the International Trade Committee of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Vice President of the Indo-Canadian Business Council and Vice President of Bombay Gymkhana (2007 - 2008). Additionally, I have been an Executive Committee Member of the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA), an apex body of the National Pharmaceutical Industry in India. A member of the Bombay Management Association (BMA), Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), and a member of the Governing Body of Allana College of Pharmacy. 10. What are the key achievements of your entrepreneurial journey? One of the key achievements has been the creation of the biological segment for which the industry has taken notice and has invited ethical competition which indeed is very welcome. Apart from that, it is truly very satisfying to facilitate the livelihoods of over 2000 Biostadians engaged in our organization in India and abroad. It has also been my privilege to be recognized in the industry and accredited with several awards and accolades. I have my family and the whole Biostadian team to thank for my success. My greatest achievement, which has given me a lot of fulfillment in my life, is the change and happiness that Biostadt has brought to our community of farmers. www.theenterpriseworld.com | 19

| Mobile Mantra

How often do you look at your mobile phone every day?

20 | April 2021

W

hat was the question? It's like asking how much or how often you drink water every day. Where do we measure how often we drink water? Isn’t it the same with mobile? Like food, clothing, shelter, mobile phones (and of course the data needed for them) have become a basic necessity. Apart from making and receiving calls, mobiles have to be used for many things. Mobile is required to stay on social media like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, read messages, to like and forward posts (and to argue with many), or to play games. In addition to this, mobile is also required to track the web series through ‘Binge Watching’. In short, from waking up in the morning to going to bed late at night (mobile is also the reason for being late!) Mobile is with you. The idea of living without a mobile may not be for many now. This mobile phone, which came two decades ago and became ‘smart’ ten years ago, has become an integral part of our lives. Utility and entertainment have made it impossible to get rid of it even for a moment. That being said, it is wrong to ask how many times a day or how many times you look at a mobile; Isn’t it? SmartPhones are interfering so much in your life and the main thing is attacking your time. Mobile indeed makes time better, but many are so addicted to it that they forget to do many other things. So we have to think about how long we use mobile. Cybermedia Research (CMR) conducted a joint survey in this regard. According to the report,

smartphone owners in the country spend on mobile one-third of the total time they are awake every day. The survey concludes that we watch mobile for an average of 1800 hours a year. People who spend more time sleeping have relatively less mobile usage. Every Indian smartphone uses mobile for at least three hours every day. The same is true of US citizens using mobile phones. Mobile phones are used by adult congregations in the United States for an average of three hours and ten minutes a day. They spend 90% of their time on various apps. Excluding the time to call or take, the rest of the time is looking at the small screen of the mobile; That is, the screen is of time. According to a CMR survey, mobile users themselves are more likely to suffer from mental or physical ailments if mobile usage continues to rise. The figures in this survey do not tell a different story; Because we all experience it. How often do we meet our loved ones? What is the rate of going straight to birthday wishes and sending bouquets and cake emojis on social media? What is the rate of keeping in touch by texting on WhatsApp instead of visiting in person? The answers will vary from person to person; Thirty percent of the respondents admitted that the actual number of encounters had decreased. The actual ratio is maybe even higher. The colorful world of mobile games, photos, and videos on Instagram makes the world around us feel barren. So they weave a new world around mobile. They have thousands of friends on social media, but in reality, it is not even a

ten. This has also been admitted by many during the inspection. Onethird of those surveyed said that this communication often takes place while doing other things on mobile. Many have also admitted that mobiles are causing quarrels. The generation born in the nineties has grown small with the revolution of information technology. About 75% of this generation have got a mobile phone when they were teenagers. This figure is based on a CMR survey and is not incorrect. Even today, many parents (and grandparents) appreciate how well three- or fouryear-olds handle mobile phones. When these kids go to class eighth, they get mobile in their hands. There is also a practice of gifting mobile phones as a reward after getting good marks. Mobile has brought the world closer - it has become easier to make calls from anywhere. Social media has given a big platform for your expression. A photo or video you take can spread like wildfire on social media. The same technology has opened a new gallery of web series and made it a habit (or an addiction?) To watch eight to ten episodes of an hour by binge-watching at night. Because of all this, our time on this small screen is increasing? Do we need to give so much time to the small screen? Many people are trying to gradually reduce the overuse of mobile phones, which is just a habit. We can do the same experiment. Asking yourself how many times you look at your mobile phone, might be the beginning of the same.

SISCO RESEARCH LABORATORIES Pioneering the Indian research and laboratory space since 1975

S

isco Research Laboratories Pvt. Ltd aka SRL is the brainchild of Mr. S.K. Agarwal & his brothers. The Company has been pioneering the Indian research and laboratory space since 1975. The Company has completed more than 36yrs of manufacturing highly complex and international quality reagents & biochemicals in India at a time when few other Indian companies had the technical expertise to manufacture complex chemical compounds. Their initial manufacturing lab in Mumbai was the first in the country to produce Molecular Biology grade products at 1/10th the cost of an equivalent imported product. The first list of offerings consisted of only 200 specialty biochemicals but the drastic difference in costs enabled the cash-crunched Indian research scientist to do much more with their post-doctoral research projects. This vision remains intact even today. Except they’re now present in 60 countries, offering more than 7000 products and cater to thousands of global scientists, empowering them to achieve the 22 | April 2021

highest quality of research with pocket-friendly economics. The unmatched leadership of SRL, Mr. Surendra Kumar Agarwal/ MD, Mr. Akash Agarwal/ Director, Mr. Vikas Agarwal/ Director, are the pillars of the company's longstanding growth. In a talk with Mr. Akash Agarwal, we discussed the current industry scenario and how SRL is transforming the biochemical sector across the globe. • What were the initial challenges you faced? In our target markets, there has always been a very strong global mindset that ‘products manufactured in the West are superior’. Until the year 2000, scientists refused to believe that advanced chemical molecules could be manufactured anywhere except the USA or Europe. We’ve spent painstaking decades educating the industry that Asia has been the true manufacturing hub of all specialized chemicals for the last

few decades. Initiatives like the Make-In-India, BIRAC, National Biopharma Vision, and others have come to a tad late in the growth story of our country. Nevertheless, the next 5-10 years are critical. • Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? In 1986, the Rajiv Gandhi government set up a separate Department of Biotechnology (DBT) within the Ministry of Science & Technology. India was one of the first countries to have a separate such department. Soon after between 1986 and 1994, new many institutions surfaced, which focused research on plant genome, tissue culture, cell culture, DNA fingerprinting, agricultural crop science, and medical biotechnology. This period was the beginning of the Indian Biotechnology story. This was the period that triggered growth for SRL. Government-backed scientific funding grew multi-fold in number. The Indian scientists now had infrastructural access to many advanced scientific streams. Initially, these scientists were very

hesitant to use an Indian product and preferred to use a “made in Germany” or “made in USA” product. It was during this time, armed with an unyielding promise of quality products that SRL became the brand of choice. By 2003, we were present in 25 countries and had indigenously developed dehydrated culture media for microbiology & fermentation sciences. This division of the company was inspired and strategized by our father, Mr. Ramesh Agarwal and we were amongst only a handful of global companies to do so. Somewhere in 2006, we were scouting for a stronger foothold in the biotechnology areas due to the upsurge of biotech start-ups and a substantial increase in the funding for biotech projects by the various bodies under the central government. This is when we made our first 100% buy-out of a Chennai-based biotech company. The acquisition helped us to offer a broad spectrum of DNA, RNA & Protein tools and has established

yet another business vertical for core biotech products. In 2009, we pioneered Nanopowder and carbon nanotubes production in India, a time when the world had just begun using buzzwords like ‘Nanotech’. Our current portfolio makes us the only native Indian company with such an expansive product range. es our world-class products on merit for their research and quality control. In the last 10 years, we have aggressively been focusing energies and investments towards Renewable Energy products, Hydroponics (the science of growing plants without ‘soil’), and Aquaponics (recirculating nutrients between farmed-fish to growing plants hydroponically) through our range of Tissue Culture chemicals. This describes our story and some turning points in our history. • How have the company graphs changed since the foundation? Can you share a few statistics? Our growth over the last 5 years has been very encouraging.

We have increased our Capex to upgrade our scientific laboratories, as well as improve our logistics and operations. Our Central Warehouse, with an installed capacity of more than 10 million SKU’s, boasts state-of-the-art storage facilities for our cold-storage products and even enables same-day dispatches to more than 400 distributors and customers across India. Over the years, we have consistently increased our people capital and our product offerings. SRL has registered a CAGR of 21% over the last 5 financial years. The beginning of COVID since Jan 2020, caused a bit of an initial slow down, but we see 2021-24 to be years of strong revenues. • What is the reason behind your company’s long-standing success? (LtoR) Akash Agarwal, S.K. Agarwal, Ramesh Agarwal & Vikas Agarwal work environments. As a 3rd generation Entrepreneur, I cannot stress the importance of this in direct correlation to the success of any Company.

journal publications like the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Accounts of Chemical Research, ACS, Science Direct, Elsevier, and others.

Our efforts have been awarded many times by industry stalwarts, various industry publications as well as the institutional honorary awards we have received. I’d say we’ve had our precious moments.

Whether it’s education or pharmaceuticals, food or cosmetics, we are surrounded by the need to test quality and validate finished products. This requires Laboratory Fine Chemicals and this is where our products and services are consumed.

However, a couple of awards remain closest to our hearts. One of them was when our Founder and Managing Director, Mr. S.K Agarwal was awarded the ‘Indian Achievers Award’ in 2014 for Industry Development in the field of CSR and Sustainable Development.

Today our ‘Knowledge Chemicals’, i.e. biochemicals, biotech reagents, nano chemicals, and microbiology solutions in roughly 18000 SKU’s are broadly used to further science and improve quality control within the industry.

The next step continues to be to aim higher, whether it’s impeccable service levels or on-shelf availability. We also need to constantly adapt to improve our own testing methods to upkeep with the latest industry standards. Whether it is pharmacopoeial or endotoxin-tested material, testing critical aspects have always been the need of the industry.

The other was more recent and we were conferred with the prestigious ‘SME of the Year 2020' at the hands of Shri R.M. Mishra – Special Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India at the SME Chamber of India Conclave.

Our core strength lies in innovating rare and difficult-to-find products and bringing them to the market. Due to proprietary technologies developed by us, our products are superior to those generally available by our peers. And although this sounds cliché, it is the singular reason we have been featured in more than 10,00,000

We see a plethora of opportunities in the nanotechnology and life sciences areas, especially virology as a potentially vast growth area. We’ve recently introduced our range of antibodies (monoclonal and polyclonal) and are already working to expand our manufacturing capabilities for cell culture reagents.

• How do you decide to take the company a step further in terms of your products/services?

• Can you please brief us about your professional experience? SRL at its core is a professionally run family concern. Mr. S.K. Agarwal and Mr. Ramesh Agarwal head the board, while me and Mr. Vikas Agarwal (my brother), handle various aspects of the Company and projects in our capacity as Directors. I have completed my B.E. (Chemical) from D.J Sanghvi College of Engineering in Mumbai and then went on to do my MBA from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland (Ohio). I have also spent a few years with a Biotech incubator, BioEnterprise Corp. (Ohio) where I received valuable entrepreneurial and business experience. I returned to join SRL in 2008 and since then have been involved in technical as well as commercial operations. My brother, Mr. Vikas Agarwal completed his Bachelors of Management Studies (BMS) from Mumbai University before joining the company as a Director. Having completed three years of working in SRL, he realized the need to gain international exposure and went to complete his MBA at The University of Nottingham Business School (NUBS), UK, with a specialization in Entrepreneurship. • How do you look after your employees? What makes your team unique? Our current objective is to improve our services by improving the quality of people we work with. We call this our “People Capital”. Our team is a mix of industry veterans, as well as eager youth. This combination, although not unique,

gives us a more rounded approach to any task we undertake. Most importantly though, we strongly believe in investing in the culture and training strategies within the Company.

there are ~2500 biotech companies and more than 2700 biotech startups. We have observed similar trends in many other countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Turkey, UAE, South Africa, Brazil, etc.

• Is there any special experience with your clients you would like to highlight?

With all of this emphasis on growth in Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Biotech, the global testing regulations are becoming more stringent and extensive. This is where our prowess comes in and supports our positive outlook of the robust growth ahead.

The diversity of our clients make a single-solution approach impossible for us. Our customers range from an IIT Research Scholar to a QC Scientist at Unilever, and even an R&D scientist at the Serum Institute of India (SII) or Bharat Biotech. During this pandemic period too, we have made our contributions to the diagnostic & vaccine industry specifically in the production of Covaxin as well as the numerous COVID Test Kit. All of these achievements were made possible by brave and courageous SRL team members who made sure our facilities stayed open even during the peak of the pandemic. • Kindly brief us about your views on the current Biotechnology and Healthcare sector scenario. We are very enthusiastic about the potential of the Biotech industry. For example, the Indian Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) states that the Indian Biotech industry in 2019 was pegged at around USD 64 billion, with a 10% CAGR estimated till about 2025 (amounting to USD 102 billion). This growth is estimated to be a result of various government initiatives including Biotech Parks across the country, SEZ’s in highgrowth regions, etc. In India alone,

• Constant vigilance- a need or a strategy? Please share your views. The ability to adapt has proven more important during this challenging time. As an example, having a clear strategy has helped us steer into the limelight when it comes to our COVID-related offerings. We have been critical KSM (Key Starting Material) vendors for more than 12 manufacturers of COVID-VTM, RT-PCR, and RNA Purification Kit manufacturers. Most importantly we have sustained our growth only by strengthening our core products and focusing on quality. If we have given in to the temptation of branching our business during this time for more COVID-centric offerings, we may not have been able to contribute as much as we have to India's needs during this time. My advice for other Entrepreneurs would be having a sound strategy but also to ‘digging your heels in’ for a reasonable time before you expect any reasonable results.

Since this rebound was the result of China's Blue Skies Policy that resulted in a number of their manufacturing facilities having to shut down, FBL was able to provide a larger output for a wider market.

• Manufacturing Capacity: FBL has focused on enhancing its production capacities to address the growing consumer demand.

Mr. Nagre admires Ratan Tata – he has built the Tata brand to exemplify not only excellence but also responsible business values

• Functional Improvements: It has invested in cutting-edge technologies to enhance operating efficiency that reflects higher product quality and lower costs.

• Operational Excellence: FBL has invested extensively in strengthening its business across the range of its operations and also in capacity building across different market cycles as well.

The profit and EBITDA margins are reflective of a healthy bottom-line. FBL has also widened its marketing and distribution footprint to cater to more than 300 customers spread across more than 50 countries.

A. Positioning as a nutraceutical ingredient supplier The Indian nutraceuticals market is expected to grow from US$4 billion in 2017 to US$18 billion in 2025, registering a growth of 21% per annum. FBL expects to derive growth through a growing presence in the manufacture of products addressing the growing preventive health sector, by enhancing nutrition affordability the world over. The most effective way of doing so would lie in positioning FBL as the one-stop destination for nutraceutical ingredients such as minerals, antioxidants, and other such products. B. Investing in capacities & capabilities FBL has invested extensively in scale during the last decade – supplementing its capacity at Kullu with additional capacity at Dahej and at Saykha (expected to commence operations shortly), completely transforming the base of its manufacturing pyramid Mr Prashant Nagre: Profile Mr. Nagre holds a Degree in Pharmacy along with a Master in Management Sciences degree and is a Gold Medallist Post Graduate Diploma holder in International Trade from the prestigious Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi.

With a career spanning 26 years, He possesses experience across various spheres encompassing Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Human and Animal Nutrition domains. He has been associated with FBL for almost a decade, leading strategy and overseeing the day to day operations of all three business verticals viz. Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals and Environmental Solutions, as well as focusing on further building and developing the various strengths of FBL i.e. Manufacturing, R&D and allied activities. Human Capital: FBL’s strength FBL has been Great Place to WorkCertified ™, a recognition considered the ‘Gold Standard’ in ‘Employer of Choice’ recognitions and awarded to less than 50% of the participants every year. This substantiates the management’s belief that FBL provides a stimulating and rewarding environment whereby employees foster a sense of pride and reinforce organizational values. It reflects the inclusiveness, engagement, and trust that are ingrained in the company’s ethos and culture. Mr Nagre’s views on constant vigilance - Constant vigilance should be a part of the corporate strategy – if not practiced, it becomes a need!

In a conversation with Mr. V.V. Mannapur, Owner of Zenex International, we discussed the current industry scenario and how Zenex is empowering the sector with its top-notched offerings. • What inspired you to start the company? Please brief us about the I am from a Business family, done pharmacy graduation. I wanted to utilize my knowledge & experience to achieve something innovative in the Pharma distribution industry. 34 | April 2021

When we started along with my friend, we use to market the imported medicine initially. The reason, I chose pharmacy specifically over the other health care professions is because a lot of people rely on medications to help them feel better. Pharmacists would be able to help patients optimize their drug therapy to improve their health. Pharmacists play a key role in helping patients feel better and get well as quickly as possible. Patients do best when pharmacists are part of their healthcare teams, because, pharmacists are the medication specialists. Pharmacists culturally competent healthcare providers who communicate effectively to evaluate many factors that affect a patient’s ability to take a medication including diet, lifestyle, transportation, language barriers and much more. There is an ongoing demand for pharmacy services and the demand is fuelled by the factors like increased demand for patient services, increase in several prescriptions filled each year, increase in the number of medicines available on the market, increase in the elderly population (older patients generally have a more chronic illness). • What were the initial challenges you faced? Initially when we started to company. We were not having

much product to sell and on the other hand, we were not having enough customer base. Working capital was very low and very few employees were there. These are some challenges I faced. • Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? Service and knowledge are the key factors in the growth of the company. We have worked more on these factors by giving more and accurate information about imported medicines to doctors. We also worked on the fastest delivery system for emergency medicines. • How have the company graphs changed since the foundation? Can you share a few statistics? During initial first 5 years, we started with only one company and at the end of the 5 years, we were associated with around 20 authorized companies. We have grown during this period from turnover of 2.5 lakhs to 25 lakhs per month. During the second 5 years Zenex International, became an independent proprietorship company, and the base is increased drastically in specialty medicine and a super stockist which provided us an opportunity to have serve

THE GREEN RECOVERY? S

ome people in the world are proposing the concept of ‘Green Recovery’. When the first wave of the corona struck, the whole world froze and suddenly human life came to a strange standstill. These months of stagnation brought industry, transportation, factories, and travel around the world to a standstill. For a time, there was a sense of appreciation for the benefits of this imposed peace to the earth’s environment. Means, how carbs are declining, and so on. Some have gone so far as to say that Corona is a hidden boon to the earth’s environment. A few months later, after seeing the horrific mountains of rubbish that the Corona had accumulated around the world, it became clear that the earth was being struck by a demon. The wave came from the unprecedented deforestation and death of a man who did not cultivate the earth without the packaging industry, medical devices, equipment, and most importantly PPE kits and masks. Corona has pushed the global environmental movement back at least a decade, some researchers in Thailand have recently speculated. It will be real. This is because the impact of the corona is so severe 38 | April 2021

that many countries, including Europe, have secretly imposed restrictions on the use of plastics. At the same time, the world’s plastics manufacturers are aggressively promoting “it is impossible to fight the corona without us.” The reason for this is that if all plastics were left out of Corona’s battle, the next moment mankind would be overwhelmed by this battle. Some statistics need to be revised. The average number of masks thrown on Earth every day averages 3.37 billion. At the end of January this year, the total plastic waste generated by Corona is estimated at 58.46 crore tonnes. At present, the daily waste generated is about 16 lakh tonnes. A recent survey of hospitals in the United States found that they currently generate as much “medical waste” in a year as they do in a year. Of these, the word medical is more important; Because there are rules for how to dispose of that waste. Even though China is hiding the death toll, it still has not been able to dispose of millions of tons of medical waste. Satellites from developed countries have picked up these mountains of waste. There are 10-15 types of objects in this mountain. Syringes, surgical masks, surgical gowns, face

shields, latex gloves, aprons, shoe covers, etc. Of course, this picture is the same all over the world and even today no one is free from 'inevitable aggression’. Governments around the world will be under tremendous pressure to boost the world’s economy, create jobs and increase GDP. Then the cycle of production, distribution sales, investment can pick up at unprecedented speed. To turn it around, all the heavens and the earth, from entrepreneurs to political leaders, will unite. In a sense, that too would be natural, and if thought in a conventional framework, it would be in the best interests of mankind. At present, some people in the world are proposing the concept of ‘Green Recovery’. The rate of expectations and aspirations will be such that even if there is a suspicion that the wait for this return is a bit slow, public opinion will start heating up against it. If the millions of families who have fallen below the poverty line are to be brought up again, the known ways will have to be used. Some economists predict that this battle will probably continue for at least the next decade. Until then, no one would dare to touch on the basic questions posed by Corona.
