His largest client was IBM, collaborating to help automate the pharmaceutical industry's new drug approval process.

US HealthCenter has formal reviews every 6 months with the intention of making sure management is doing everything it can to make the TEAMates' jobs easier.

industrial arena, Dr. Gavery was pioneering on-site and near-site clinics and predictive health. Their unique combination of the same principles from different angles made for a highly productive approach. Within a few short months the duo launched one of the first online predictive AI-based health portals in 2003, their Personal Health Dashboard (PHD). The PHD combines DNA, biometrics, medical and Rx claims, demographics, wearables, lifestyle and payroll data, and Health Risk Assessment in USHC's AI-based personal portal. Dr. Gavery's

algorithms combined with this data creates a predictive model for the member through a technology Mr Quinnes has trademarked as PredictiMed™ AI. In 2015 the Intel GE Validation Institute validated PredictiMed™ AI's ability to identify and lower the pre-disease high-risk level, which may precipitate a higher use of ER and hospital services, in thirteen major disease categories to a lower level where the pre-emptive intervention can be applied and thus reduce the incidence of ER visits and hospitalizations between 80 and 93%. In 2019 USHC was third party validated at the highest level for Care Navigation, and in 2020 for Population Health management, also at the Gold Level. This year, the company had another industry first, having their financial predictive model third-party validated. This allows for underwriting and risk management, and creates a pathway for early intervention based on risk burden-- the cost of future disease. With over 100,000 active members throughout the US and overseas, and 19 years of experience with nearly 100% employee retention, USHC has built one of the most deep and wide PHM platforms anywhere. Cutting Through the ComplexitiesAccording to Mr Quinnes: “The concept of disease prevention was new in 2003. Yes, there were pockets of it in areas such as fitness, nutrition and so forth, but it has been an upstream battle. Today predictive medicine is still early, but USHC has over 20 years of experience in the game while others are still trying to change the paradigm.” In 2010, USHC started using their predictive modelling and engagement in the insurance industry, building selffunded and voluntary benefit products with partners. This provided a better
platform to leverage their risk management toolset and combine the engagement systems. The Products and ServicesThe PredictiMedTM AI health management system comprises of a Personal Health Dashboard™ (PHD), health coach tracker, corporate health profile, health counts, Sweeper™ medical and pharmacy claims analytics tool, and content management system. The PHD is a dynamic and comprehensive user portal utilizing a responsive design that provides a seamless, personalized user experience. It incorporates an inclusive health profile and medical history chart with periodic and episodic medical information that can be accessed at anytime and anywhere. Being a safe, encrypted medical site, the PHD has a medical passport with personal, medical, and insurance information, as well as a comprehensive health and wellness management site. PredictiMedTM AI's Health Coach Tracker tool aids practitioners in overseeing interactions with participants such as setting goals, tracking appointments, collecting data on attained and not attained goals as well as billing the payor for encounters. The tracker is also a datamining tool which uses filters to perform searches of a wide array of categories including participation, demographics, lifestyle categories, disease categories, predisease risk levels biometric test values, health scores and many other parameters. This allows for targeted interventional strategies not available in any other platform. Additionally, the administrative reporting dashboard provides a confidential executive summary report that is based on the analysis of health risks and behaviours.
USHC provides not only technology, but also healthcare advocacy services such as prior authorization, large case management, disease management, predisease management, lifestyle management, benefit enrollment, and benefit advocacy. This line of services, what Mr. Quinnies has coined as Wholeistic™ Coaching, is significantly different than the traditional multispecialist and siloed approach prevalent in the industry today. USHC recognized that this counterproductive approach creates an unhappy user and lowengagement experiences and in response created the Wholeistic™ Coaching approach in 2004. USHC was also asked by a leading health science university, University of WisconsinMilwaukee, to create a coaching certificate program for senior level students. A 5-credit course was created in 2010, which is now available online. Because of the use of this science, technology and advocacy approach, USHC is the only organization to be validated for Care Navigation by Validation Institute, an independent, objective, third-party organization that focuses on changing healthcare. Care Navigation is a sub-discipline of care coordination that aspires to steer patients to the most appropriate and effective clinical provider. According to Validation Institute, what put PredictiMed™ AI over the edge was the validated analytics leading to preemptive interventions that can reduce the incidence of ER visits and hospitalizations between 80 and 93%. The Health Counts module on the PHD is an effective incentive tool of the PredictiMed™ AI ecosystem, acting as the key agent for managing engagement and tracking health behaviors. The health counts module enables clients to create campaigns and activities to motivate participants, ultimately ensuring tracking group participation progress.

Another function of the PredictiMedTM AI ecosystem, The Sweeper™ claims analysis tool, manages everything from medical or pharmacy claim events, to evaluating expense and comparing different segments of the population. Whereas, the content management system module further allows for customization of certain content visible to users on their PHD. From a technology standpoint, US HealthCenter harnesses a multipronged approach that aids the predictive model to identify the onset of a disease before symptoms present themselves by combining objective and subjective data. It then uses its proprietary AI to identify risk burdenpotential and cost-exposure for each condition, ultimately providing savings opportunity per each at-risk individual. With this aggregate reporting, managers can see where their risk burden is according to financial

benchmarks. This can help visualize trends to further identify and improve the existing medical conditions for better health outcomes by helping healthcare organizations focus on proactive care management. Gavin's Views on the Healthcare Industry and its Digitization“With the advent of certain AI technologies, the healthcare sector underwent a major transformation towards improving care delivery. However, as the concern of increased flow of patients and the subsequent cost to manage and provide quality care grew, the need for a holistic population health management solution turned out to be the must-have competency for healthcare providers.
Additionally, factors like inefficient analytical management tools and low participation led to care management challenges. USHC health coined the phrase “Pre-disease” in the early 2000s as part of our mission to improve people's health and reduce healthcare cost by proving industry leading health management science, technology, and advocacy to prevent and manage disease.”
This implied that the traditional approach to healthcare was no longer a viable option for effective population

Mr. Rajiv Nath At the Forefront of Medical Device Industry in India
T
he medical and with it the medical device industry in India has seen tremendous growth over the years, with the advent of technology, and the world at the brink of globalization. The onset of a global pandemic led India to be an efficient producer of medical devices.
Featuring for The Enterprise World's this issue of The Most Influential Healthcare Leaders in 2021 is Mr. Rajiv Nath, the Forum Co-ordinator at AiMeD, who with his dedicated services has led the company to the forefront of medical device manufacturing in India. In this Interview with Mr. Rajiv Nath, let us know more about his ventures. What inspired you to start the company? Please brief us about the company. My father, Late. Shri. Narindra Nath founded HMD in 1957. He was a pharmacist and pioneered the launch of a comprehensive range of Glass Syringes in India (Glass Van brand). His passion for sincere honest hard work helped him serve the medical
profession with affordable world-class medical devices. It is because of his vision, in-depth knowledge of management and organizational expertise that the HMD group has scaled to new heights every day under HMD's culture. I am the lucky son born with a 'silver syringe' but trained by my father. As current Managing Director of Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd., I am now carrying forward the legacy of fair business practices and the value system for our organization while shouldering responsibility of well-being of 3500 direct employees & 5000 indirect dependents of HMD. Fortunately, our current turnover is more than 650 crores and growing to support them. What were the initial challenges you faced? I spent first year on the “shop floor” learning the ins and outs of the production process, chasing hourly outputs and working to minimise wastage. Then, I worked my way through the business, ascertaining
which areas needed strengthening and making the necessary changes and adding departments and staffing them. We transitioned from a sales organization to a marketing organisation, from an OEM to overseas brands to selling mainly in our own brands globally, from IR to HR, from Accounts to Finance, from Quality Control to Quality Assurance etc. It was time well spent, for in the 36 years since the company has flourished from a single plant at one location (with about 200 members of staff producing just two product lines – glass syringes and surgical blades. The annual turnover was around US$250,000 in current dollar terms) to nine plants in four different locations. The range has grown to include seven products while turnover now sits at about US$95 million. Which was that point that triggered the growth of the company? The first round of growth was triggered soon after we started making disposable syringes in 1986 and then disposable needles with help of Japanese automated technology in

1987. The initial 5 years 1987– 1992 period were very challenging to establish the brand DispoVan with educating the market to appreciate its quality against well entrenched overseas brands as well as innovations it had adopted such as needle-topped syringes and ribbon packs which the market resisted initially as the syringes and needles were then being stocked and sold separately and packed in blister packs. From 1992 to 1997 we grew rapidly as the major driver has always been HMD's commitment to offering consistent quality. What are the products/services the company focuses on? How are your services different from those in the market? Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd (HMD), has deliberately remained focused on a very narrow product range of medical disposables that need high level of assembly automation in order to ensure it delivers premium products that are created in partnership with some of the best suppliers worldwide. We want to be the Top5 global manufacturers for each of our products but do not aim to be a Walmart with a thick catalogue. We believe in ethics and following fair business practices and empower each of our employees to think and act as if it's his own company while working as a team player and every salesperson is our Brand Ambassador. Over 2 decades HMD created a niche for their disposable syringe ―DISPOVAN which is today still the most popular brand in syringe market in India with over 60% market share with DispoVan Needle and DispoVan Insulin Syringes having over 70% Market Share and thereby displaced renowned MNC 's – an inspirational case study for other Indian entrepreneurs.

APRIL 2022
HMD is now a reputed leading Top3 manufacturer of Disposable Syringes in the World and possibly the largest for Kojak Auto Disable syringes and shouldering the responsibilities with the Govt. for the success of India's massive covid vaccination campaign How do you decide to take the company a step further in terms of your products/services? From day one, as an essential product supplier and having more than 60 per cent market share in the country, we knew that the country depended on us. Predicting a spike in demand, HMD adopted an all-hands-on-deck approach and won the necessary approvals to advance production into 24/7 mode despite lockdown restrictions. HMD has supplied approx. 640 million 0.5 ml AD syringes to Govt. by Dec 2021 to help vaccinate over 855 million people till date to support the massive vaccination campaign to eradicate Covid-19 and help make India Atmanirbhar. In addition, HMD exported approximately 300 million AD Syringes to COVAX and PAHO in 2021 and nearly 50 million syringes to Japan for Covid vaccination. HMD's top priorities right now is to help the Govt. to combat the pandemic. HMD had been ensuring continuity of supply chain and its manufacturing plants to ensure no shortages in India in India for its critically needed disposable devices during the Covid crisis and remains dedicated to its constant endeavour to introduce affordable new and advanced products that not just ensure patient safety but also the safety of healthcare professionals. Ÿ
HMD alone contributes to over 65% of syringe supplies in India for curative healthcare and immunisation.
We feel honoured to contribute to the National vaccination campaign. The vaccine bullets need our guns. It is a huge responsibility. We are glad we could shoulder the responsibilities with the Govt. Ÿ Presently, HMD is producing more than 4.75 lakh syringes of various types per hour at our factories spread over 11 acres in Faridabad industrial district in Haryana. Ÿ
Is there any new addition to the list of products/services? Anything exciting you would like to share? By March 2022, HMD aims to ramp up capacities to 1.50 billion pieces of AD syringes while simultaneously, increasing its total syringe capacity to 4.5 billion pieces a year. A new 150,000 sq. ft factory as a green field project is set to be commissioned in Jan 2022 to increase capacity from 4 billion Cannulas (Needle points) per annum to 6 billion per annum to be Atmanirbhar, a vision we share with the Honourable Prime Minister HMD is coming up with more designs of novel safety engineered drug delivery products in the near future e.g. for nasal vaccine delivery that don't need a needle and some that need a needle but don't need a syringe. Adaptability and the ability to think ahead are skills that have clearly served me well.

In this Interview with Pankaj Varshney, CEO, and Director, let us find out more about their products and services.
Providentially, around that time, I came in contact with one of my acquaintances who also appeared to be thinking along the same lines. Soon, a business idea
developed and a Company in the name and style of ' Natura Biotechnol Private Limited' was floated. The Company was launched in the year 2012-13 with women as the initial promoters. They along with us are Directors in the Company and constitute an effective Board that manages the Company. What were the initial challenges? The Company is shortly going to complete 9 years of existence. However, the journey was not hasslefree. Despite experience in the line of activity, we faced a strong challenge in mobilizing finance, ensuring and convincing our buyers about the quality of extracts, herbals, etc., quality and reliability of analytical tests, procuring high-quality raw material on a consistent basis, etc. in the initial years. Identifying was yet another challenge to achieve volume business in the early years.

Expanding the list of our products and services is a continuous process. LeadershipWhat are the responsibilities of an entrepreneur? We are first-generation entrepreneurs. After launching the enterprise, I realized what it means to be an entrepreneur. The initial years were very tough for me. Responsibilities of an entrepreneur I firmly believe that in becoming a successful entrepreneur, patience, tolerance for unfavourable events, perseverance in the wake of challenges, problem-solving attitude, professional abilities, skills, a genius in getting things done, commitment etc. are all put to test. An entrepreneur has to take all decisions by himself and therefore it is essential that he must stand and take the responsibility of owning the decisions. An entrepreneur has to be discreet and vigilant because he runs the risk of being cheated and deceived by several others. My experience with the Herbal industry now spans over a period of about 20 years. My areas of immense
interest are Research and Development, marketing, and procurement of herbals. I am also engaged actively in providing consultancy in extraction and formulation to peer manufacturers.

What are some of your key achievements? My major achievement, in my assessment, is that I have become from job seeker (salaried employee) to job provider, providing jobs and livelihood to about 40 families. I have launched another enterprise in the name of Natura Herbal Ashram (LLP) and PAR CHEMBIO PVT. LTD deals in the marketing of pharma products. What makes your team unique? I treat my workers as Co-partners. I feel responsible for the comprehensible care of my fellow employees and workers. My management model of human resources is based on mutual trust, cooperation, and confidence among the team members. I believe in giving full freedom to my workers in the
Having acquired expertise in manufacturing herbal extracts and preparing formulations, providing consultancy , treating ailments using Ayurvedic extracts of my acquaintances in the closed-circuit which is fairly large , I have committed myself to serve the Healthcare Sector by providing quality treatment at very concessional rates. I am proposing to set up an Ashram hospital for the treatment of critical diseases like Cancer, Kidney diseases, Heart diseases, etc. Ashram shall have comprehensive outdoor and indoor patient facilities as well as facilities for education in Ayurveda. Natura Herbal Ashram has been registered with myself “HERBAL BABA” as the managing partner.

Considering Your Medical Career Options? The Aesthetics Industry Is Calling
W
hen you wish to hop on the medical industry, the good news is, there are so many career options from which you could choose. Careers aren’t only limited to the usual medical procedures in the hospital, if this isn’t what you’re after; there are other sectors within the medical field like in therapy, the academe, dentistry, and even the aesthetics industry. In America and in Canada in particular, the aesthetics industry is a booming one. So many more men and women across all ages and demographics are keen on having aesthetic procedures done. Some require surgery, while others are non-invasive. But even for the latter, medical expertise is still necessary to ensure top-notch results. If you’re still on the fence about it, this post should give you convincing reasons why you should consider entering the aesthetics industry. Read on! 1. High In Demand In Canada, cosmetic nurses are in high demand, much like in other places around the world. Technological advancements have also brought more treatment options across different budget ranges, which has made aesthetic treatments more accessible to many people. Aging is normal, but its effects can be slowed down through various procedures. This means men and women around the world are now more than willing to spend for aesthetic treatments, just to keep the largest organ in their bodies healthy. This demand presents a wide financial opportunity for clinics to open and medical aesthetics industry nurses and dermatologists to enter the aesthetics industry. As such, those willing to adapt to the current trend will have flourishing careers with competitive pay.

2. Have More Control Over Your Time
4. More Time To See More Patients In A Day
Unlike other medical professionals working in a hospital setting, working in medical aesthetics enables you to have more control over your time. Dermatology clinics usually follow regular business hours. However, if there are no patients or scheduled appointments for the day, they can opt to open later, if they have something else to do. This means it’d be easier for you to adjust your weekly or daily schedule according to your preferences and also your patient load.
Economically, you may also be able to see more patients in a day. Depending on the procedure your patients have, some may even be as quick as half an hour, such as for Botox treatments. For as long as you don’t skimp on the quality of service just to see more patients in a day, you could potentially earn more when you admit more patients.
Most importantly, unlike other medical professionals, you neither operate on an on-call demand nor would you have to do graveyard shifts. This is definitely a major plus, especially for those who have familial obligations.
Schedule-wise, this also means you don’t necessarily always have to go beyond your clinic hours just to fit all your patients within the same working day. More so, the bigger your clinic and the more staff you’ve hired, the higher the number of visitors that can be catered to simultaneously. Conclusion
3. Work In A Fulfilling Field When you’re working in a career where you have a sense of fulfillment, your working days are going to be filled with so much pride and joy. It’s a false notion to think that those who undergo medical aesthetic procedures are only in it for vanity. Some may be suffering seriously from a lack of confidence and self-esteem due to their physical imperfections. You can change their lives, even if it’s only through the job that you do. You can make your patients feel a lot better about themselves by giving them a newfound sense of confidence. Furthermore, you get to witness your patients’ transformation, and you may even leave an impact on their lives, emotionally and psychologically, by simply being with them every step of the way.

As you can see, working in medical aesthetics is a very attractive work opportunity. This is a great sector for those who wish to work in healthcare but don’t necessarily like to be in the hospital. In Canada, the USA, and even in other parts of the world, there are so many training opportunities you can avail to receive the proper certifications necessary to be qualified in medical aesthetics. For as long as this is a field you’re excited and keen on entering, you’ll find your workdays to be exciting. It’s fulfilling work too when you get to change the lives of your patients by giving them newfound confidence to let their inner beauty shine.

Transforming Primary Healthcare Through Innovations
T
he Indian healthcare system suffers from a chronic condition of irregularities and contrast. On-one-hand big cities in India have emerged as medical tourism hotspots with multi-specialty hospitals and internationally acclaimed doctors. On the flip side, the rural population suffers from inadequate primary healthcare facilities, quality services, and poor availability of human resources. Many organizations, both from the private and non-profit sectors, are trying to eliminate this tyranny of inadequacy.
WISH (Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare) is the flagship program of Lords Education & Health Society (LEHS) is one name that stands above the rest. Featuring in The Enterprise World's issue on the 10 Most Influential Healthcare Leaders to watch out is Mr. Rajesh Ranjan Singh, a man committed to transforming primary healthcare through innovations. An Unmatched Leadership A social entrepreneur and a specialist in civic participation, public health, and the non-profit sector, Rajesh
Ranjan Singh has nearly three decades of experience. His deep understanding of community processes, health system strengthening, government engagement, and participation across Asia and Africa enables him to manage large and complex international development programs. He has been part of multiple national core committees for developing strategic guidelines and frameworks on public health issues. Currently, he is heading WISH (Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare) as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) About WISH Primary healthcare is a vital aspect of national health strategy. Over the period, the Indian government has prioritized primary healthcare as an area for core investment, helping to improve the accessibility to the last mile population. It is no secret that primary healthcare caters to 80 to 90 percent of human healthcare needs, reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary care hospitals. Considering the vast network and reach of primary care facilities in India, improving the primary healthcare centers around the three A's
(availability, affordability, and accessibility) with the help of med-tech innovations could bring about a sea change in the Indian public health system. With this vision, WISH was formally launched in 2014 to build an equitable, innovation-led healthcare ecosystem to make quality healthcare services available, accessible and affordable for all Indian citizens. To realize its vision, we initially partnered with the state government of Rajasthan. Gradually, this partnership extended to the states of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh. To address the healthcare needs, Med-tech-enabled primary care models got developed and implemented for the rural and urban populations. Over the years, WISH interventions in these states have evolved from implementation to advisory and techno-managerial support for facility operations, healthcare innovations, capacity building, data aggregation, and analytics. Our vision is to provide a fully operational healthcare delivery system through innovation and technology that complies with all quality standards. The organization is built around the core values of Compassion, Respect,

Innovation, Speed, and Perseverance (CRISP), contributing to improved health outcomes, thereby reducing outof-pocket expenses (OOPEs) of the beneficiaries. We believe that systemic reforms will have a ripple effect from individuals to the community. WISH has successfully and effectively forged Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) with various state governments, the private sector, innovators, and civil societies, who constitute the healthcare ecosystem. Through such partnerships, we bring financial and technical resources together to value add to the state's public health system by integrating promising healthcare innovations. government partnerships in the intervention states. It works in alignment with the healthcare priorities of the government to transform the healthcare system at the state level. Their Products and Services Given our commitment to support the government's healthcare priorities, we deploy customized models, for example, WISH works with the Government of Rajasthan to strengthen the primary healthcare system in both rural and urban areas; we provide techno-managerial support to the Government of Delhi to manage Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics (AAMCs). Similarly, WISH extends advisory services to Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam on primary
health, digital monitoring of data, and capacity building of the stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. WISH is supporting National Health Authority (NHA) to set up and operationalize the NHA Innovation Unit (NIU) and pioneer the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Based on extensive primary and secondary research, the NIU has designed and developed the Market Access Program (MAP) to support high-potential, market-ready innovations with a set of systematic offerings geared toward adoption by the PM-JAY ecosystem. In the WISH intervention states, we have partnered with State Health Authorities (SHAs) to set up State Health Innovation Units (SHIUs). Our effort was acknowledged and
rewarded on the occasion of the first anniversary of PMJAY in October 2019. The National Health Authority (NHA) organized Ayushman Bharat Aarogya Manthan presided over by our Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. WISH demonstrated its Swasthya ATM model that provides an end-to-end inclusive gamut of care solutions to the last mile population. The model was awarded the Best Start-up Innovation in Healthcare. “We take a holistic approach to make quality primary healthcare available and accessible to underserved populations. Our models are unique and informed by our on-ground experience and knowledge.

Since its inception, WISH has directly served 15 million patients and the vulnerable population in rural and urban India. In its advisory role, the organization has enabled over fortyfour million people to access quality primary healthcare services in its intervention states. Its ultimate goal is to reach the most underserved populations in the developing world with cutting-edge, technology-enabled primary healthcare solutions within the next five years.
Factors that Set WISH Apart Strategic Multi-Stakeholder Alliances: To form formal partnerships, we collaborate with the government and private sector, entrepreneurs, innovators, and philanthropists to leverage the infrastructure, reach, resources, and experience. Identify and Scale Innovations: The organization identifies and leverages the most promising innovations and innovators in the primary healthcare field; demonstrates the impact of their innovations utilizing the WISH-operated public health centers as 'social labs,' and scales successful innovations within the public health system. It develops knowledge hubs to showcase and share ideas, address barriers to scale, facilitate knowledge sharing and connect innovators with potential investors.
