Lori San Ramon, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME Mother’s Day took on a new meaning for me when I became a mother 5 years ago. That’s when I understood firsthand the sacrifices my mother made to raise me and the full range of emotion - the love, worry and exhaustion - that accompanies raising a tiny human. I’m full of gratitude for her, my grandmothers, and the entire village of caregivers who’ve surrounded us with support. Today, I’m a mom of two fueled by hugs and coffee. My kids inspire me to show up and be the best version of myself every day. To be present over perfect. To recognize and appreciate the everyday miracles. To live wholeheartedly.

Nicole Cotati, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Spring is a time of renewal and inspiration. It is one of my favorite times of the year, as our surroundings awaken from their winter slumber - fresh and anew. Blossoms along with fresh and bright scents are an inspiration for my work during this time. As well as being inspired by the surrounding areas of Sonoma County with its springtime green rolling hills, mustard seed fields and blossom filled trees. You’ll see an array of botanicals used in my work during this season of new beginnings. de novo \di’no-vo\ adverb or adjective [Latin]: anew, fresh, in the beginning. Start fresh, start new. Asako San Francisco, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME I love Springtime. Plants dress themselves in green leaves and blossom with beautiful flowers. I enjoy this season to watch nature in California, a lot of cute animals born to see everywhere. In Spring the ambient climate changes, cold Winter weather makes skin dry. Now spending more time outside in the sunshine, skin gets so dry in a different way during Springtime. A lot of people get allergies from all the pollen and sunshine charged dust ions! I make more than forty kinds of soaps, organic lip balms, organic hydration creams and bath salts for every skin type, for every season! I hope everyone will find their own favorite soap in my shop. Mary Oakland, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME I'm always brave when Spring comes around. I'm filled with electric excitement about experimenting with new art techniques and creating new work. As a science-based artist, I enjoy creating art outside surrounded by nature. I need to hear the birds chirping and watch the wind blow the trees. I also use vibrant colors, and many times bees and ladybugs mistake my art for flowers, which is always a treat for me. D.H. Lawrence says, capturing my feelings about Spring better than I ever could. ...And I, what fountain of fire am I among this leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed about like a shadow buffeted in the throng of flames, a shadow that's gone astray, and is lost.

Anna Oakland, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME The arrival of Spring is a welcome sign of new life. It's the do-over we get every year whether we’ve been good or not. Iranians and Assyrians celebrate the new year in late March and the first day of April respectively. It is fitting and joyful to have these customs to inspire and motivate me to remain in tune with the seasons and reevaluate my goals and my relationships. Spring is a time to try again. To tend a forgotten patch of dirt. To remember that hope is available if you look for it.

Cara Corey Designs Shop Cara St. Paul, Minnesota WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Now that I am living in Minnesota, spring is a very welcome change of seasons. When the first tulips start poking through the soil, I suddenly want to be outside all the time! As a result, I feel inspired to shift into making more lightweight and airy knit or crocheted items, and I have added many more of these accessories and home decor to my shop. This year is a little bit different, and I know we are all spending a little more time at home. So I am designing useful decor items, like coasters and wall art, to make those spaces as comfortable as possible.

Eko Jewelry Design Shop
Eko San Francisco, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME Spring is a season of rebirth and transformation. I grew up in Japan and the new school year there starts in April coinciding with the blooming of the cherry blossoms. So, this season always feels like a new beginning for me. I look forward to it every year, when the weather begins to warm up and things turn hopeful and it’s time for a fresh start. The sprouting of new leaves and flowers inspire me, so I usually come up with new designs. I also enjoy stargazing in the spring and seeing the stars rising in the eastern sky. My favorite is the Spring Diamond, a prominent spring asterism formed by the bright stars Cor Caroli in the Cannes Venatici constellation, ruby red Arcturus in Boötes, sapphire blue Spica in Virgo, and Denebola in Leo. The warmth and gentleness of the spring sky, along with the infinity and mystery of the cosmos have inspired my Galaxy Collection, which is made up of geometric shapes, especially circles. In my Dreams-Come-True line from that collection, the hand-set gemstones represent these stars with the hope that whoever wears these pieces will see their dreams come true.

Christie San Francisco, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Spring to me represents life returning from death. The flowers come back from their long sleep and new animals get to walk on the reborn land. Spring is also a great representation of the mother. For she gave life to once was lifeless and being beauty to our world, our inner world and the world around us. For this I am so grateful to celebrate Mother’s Day. For if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be here to create my art. She has supported me through it all, which I am grateful for. And mother day to me is a way to thank my mom for everything she has given me.

Chelsea Pacifica, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Some of my favorite pieces I've made are of our amazing California poppy, which always seems to show up out of nowhere every year. That's the beginning of Spring for me. The other wildflowers follow suit, and our hillsides come alive with color. Especially in times like we've had recently, it's reassuring to see Nature still bursting forth with so much energy and joy. Did you know that poppies love sandy, rocky soil? The kind few other plants would survive in, let alone flourish? That's why I put the word "Persevere" on my round poppy sticker - stay strong, push on, and stop to breathe once in a while. I'll never tire of seeing our poppies dotting the coastal bluffs of my town, the highways along California, the urban streets of San Francisco. Stay strong, friends, and don't be afraid to show our colors. San Francisco and California Coastal Stickers

Meghan Carmichael, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME We’ve all been slumbering away the dark and chilly winter up until recently. We’ve taken the time and space we’ve needed to gather our energies, thoughts, and inspirations. And now that we’ve awakened to spring’s open arms, we are finally ready. Ready to let go, ready for newness, ready for change. Old practices can be left by the wayside, while crisp, new energy bubbles gently to the surface. Rose bushes are bursting forth with brilliant hues, stalks of lavender are endlessly enticing bees, and dandelions dot our backyards with dances of vibrant yellow. For us, springtime gives way to a flood of inspiration. Our products rely heavily on the bounty that each season brings. Springtime is our moment in the sun—we harvest and incorporate as much of this newness into our work as possible.

Suzanne Santa Cruz, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME I love Spring; when the California poppies are in bloom and the sun shines bright. Springtime for me as a jewelry designer is an exciting time, as this is when I launch my spring/summer collection; a culmination of many months of designing and creating new pieces. It’s always very satisfying to release a new collection of designs to my customers! On a more personal note; Spring is a special season because of my youngest daughter’s birthday and Mother’s Day, which are both sweet days of reflection and celebration for me.

Sara San Francisco, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME For Basmati Bags, springtime is about renewal and the interwoven cycles that keep us thriving. And as a sustainable fashion business, those are some of our favorite themes to contemplate. We love creating beautiful bags, but even more than that, we love working in a way that leaves the planet better than we found it. Springtime reminds us that every time we put effort into reclaiming fabric that would otherwise go to landfill, we are helping more flowers bloom. It reminds us that every time we give back to local nonprofits, we are mirroring the ways that this bountiful planet gives back to us. And it inspires us to keep going, to keep exploring, and to keep growing. This Spring we are excited to explore these ideas with new colors, new bag designs, and even more innovative use of discarded materials. Join us!

Christine San Francisco, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Spring has always been my favorite season. I love seeing everything come back to life and seeing vibrant colors every corner I turn. Plants are turning lush and flowers are blooming. Mother's Day has always been a special day for me because I really treasured all that my Mom had done for us. This year will be the first year I celebrate Mother's Day without her. My Mom had the vision last Spring that I should sell my ceramics online even though I have been an art fair kind of girl and was hoping that my usual Divisadero Art Walk would somehow prevail from the pandemic. So being able to participate in this virtual fair with a group of amazing artists this year means a lot to me. Here is to my Mom and all the Moms out there.... Happy Mother's Day!"

Robin Boulder Creek, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Spring is the BEST time of the year. It’s finally sunny again, the weather warms up, and everything blooms. It feels hopeful, welcoming, and it inspires me to move forward (in life, in business, in everything). In previous years it’s when I would plant my garden, spending hours in the sun and loving the feeling of dirt on my hands. I incorporate my love for spring into my seasonal products, with the release of my garden-themed activity kits. So even if you live in a place where spring doesn’t start until a bit later, or if you don’t have access to grass and dirt and bugs nearby, you can still find a bit of the spring that I love so much!

Sumsaara Shop Jannat San Jose, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME Growing up, my mother would always encourage me to think outside the box and challenge me to design and hand craft unusual and beautiful gifts. I would always design and create beautiful gifts for her for holidays and birthdays that were so well-received by friends and family, they eventually became the launching products for our business. I always look forward to Mother’s Day because I get to create some new idea brewing in my head and bring it to life and gift it to her. With her background in Floral Design and mine in Industrial Design, we then put our heads together, testing, tweaking and working out the details, and it eventually gets added to our line of products! Iris San Francisco, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Growing up in Colorado, Spring was the first sign of warmth returning, of new awakenings as flowers begin to bud and then bloom and leaves return to trees after the long, cold and snowy Winter. In San Francisco, where I live now, the signs of Spring are subtler. I notice them most in the vibrant colors of the rolling green grassy hills dotted with California poppies and the Sour Grass that my young daughter devours, the lush moss adorning trees making their trunks soft to the touch, and the blossoming of the many trees lining our street. Nature is a great source of inspiration for me and the colors and textures of Spring often work their way into my enamel jewelry, which often features bright pops of color. My jewelry also features a unique hand-crafted process where I fuse powdered glass enamel, which is responsible for the color in my jewelry, to copper metal by kiln-firing it at high temperatures. Spring is also the time for celebrating mothers and showing them our appreciation for bringing us into the world and caring for us. My jewelry is very popular as a Mother’s Day gift, with so many colors, you’re sure to find a color combination to match her style. Happy shopping!

Paper Sweetly Shop Nikitha San Jose, California WHAT SPRING AND MOTHER’S DAY MEAN TO ME Spring is our favorite season of the year — a time for all things fresh, joyful, and lovely. It’s impossible not to smile at the sight of the new green leaves and the freshly unfurled flowers decking the trees. Set these against the music of chirping birds and I can’t help but feel the excitement of nature’s annual extravaganza. This flurry of activity and riot of colors never fails to inspire and energize me here at Paper Sweetly. Mother’s Day is coming — a day to acknowledge and appreciate the spirit of the person who has created, nurtured, protected, and guided us into life and love. Mothers ought to be cherished and appreciated every day, but it is always nice to have one day when we can make them feel truly special.

Emma Petaluma, California WHAT MOTHER’S DAY MEANS TO ME For us Mother’s day was when our journey began. Love for my child brought us to a shared love of handcrafted artisan soap. My first mother’s day gift was my daughter and she did not come into this world easily. This delicate preemie was born, wrong side up and way too early. I began making soap when my daughter was born at 3 pounds as I knew that this small and perfect being was too fragile to be exposed to chemicals, sulfates and artificial ingredients. So began a journey of growing and making organic baby food and making her soap and salves myself. For us Spring is an anniversary of how we began and as it unfurls it brings with it the promise of infinite new beginnings.

Tatiana San Jose, California WHAT SPRING MEANS TO ME Hello Beautiful People! My name is Tatiana, and I am the artist who designs and makes beautiful essentials for everyday use or gift giving! One of the most asked questions I receive is what inspires me to create my designs. There is no easy answer to it but what I can say is that most of my work is nature inspired and spring is the perfect time to be inspired and create! The flowers, bees, and ladybugs that you see beautifying my soap bars are also made from soap, by hand, and one piece at the time! Yes, it’s time consuming, but they bring so much joy to me as a maker and those who use my goodies!
