Introduction
“As you will know from your own experience or from your friends and relatives, the over-50s are not slowing down but instead they seem to be getting younger as they age! This age group is discovering new lifestyles and is seeking new ways to stay healthy, lively and well informed and they will find it all at The 50+ Show! We lay on a fantastic feature programme to attract visitors. At the same time we bring together exhibitors with an interest in ‘mature’ markets. Together, the result is both happy visitors and satisfied exhibitors! Our show was launched in 2007 as The Retirement Show and takes place Show Guide Magazine Glasgow SECC 2011 11-12 November

in three regional centres – Manchester, London and Glasgow. In 2011, we renamed and re-launched the event as The 50+ Show, a move that has been very strongly welcomed by sponsors, exhibitors and visitors alike. Our shows and the very popular 50+ Show Magazine - seen left - work well for exhibitors: repeat bookings attest to the positive return on investment of exhibiting at The 50+ Show!”
Dr Robert McCaffrey, Show Director
Exhibiting at The 50+ Show • The show is now a successfully proven concept: These are the largest over-50s shows in the UK: No other events give such targeted access to this prosperous sector. • This is a ‘recession-proof’ market, with guaranteed income and strong ongoing growth. • The show is backed by a dedicated marketing campaign, including magazine, newspaper, internet advertising, direct email and radio advertising. • Exhibitors are a major part of the event, offering visitors a huge range of products, services and information on making the most of their 50s. In addition, each show includes a popular B-2-B networking reception for all exhibitors. • For the latest exhibition plans, visit our website or speak with our sales staff.
Life begins with Show Britain’s BIGGEST for the active over-50s!
What the exhibitors say about The 50+ Show “Our overall show experience was excellent. The show is very professional and there were a good number of people through the door.” Georgina Howard, Prudential “We have always supported this show, which is a great target for our core customer range. We support most of the travel shows and many exhibitions, but this is the best show solely for the retirement ages.” Justine Shillinglaw, SAGA Holidays
“Our stand was so busy we were unable to move!” Saga Holidays
“This was by far the most fulfilling event I have been to – probably because of the target audience of people in the 50 plus age range. The panel discussion I took part in was extremely productive for us. We were understaffed on the stand to cope with the volume of enquiries. We will definitely go again to this event in London, and to the events in Manchester and Glasgow.” Malcolm Mclean, Chief Executive, The Pensions Advisory Service
“We thought the show was a great way to show the public our service. We were very impressed with the show. We thought our busier day was Saturday: there seemed to be more people attending the event. We will definitely be attending the event in Manchester.” Pat Stubbs, Pension Tracing Team “A big ‘thank you’ from all of us! The organisation ran like clockwork and we came away from the show planning for next year.” Caroline Hull, Girlings
“Fantastic organisation and well advertised.” Helen Hill, The Society of Will Writers
Selected exhibitors at our previous shows:
“The show offers a unique opportunity to interact with the UK’s fastest growing and most asset-rich population group.” • The over-50s control 80% of the UK’s wealth, have little or no debt and huge spending power. • The pot of assets and cash held by people over 50 is valued at over UK£175 billion. • By 2031, the number of people aged 80 and over will rise from 2.2 million to 4.9 million. • Net worth of visitors to our shows in 2011 was estimated at over £2bn. • With fixed or index-linked incomes, the over-50s sector is largely recession-proof.
What about the visitors? Do they enjoy it? We enjoyed it all. We come with money to spend!! Vicky B., Norbury I thought the range of stalls was excellent – the staff were attentive without being pushy. Ms H Harvey, Newton Stewart Excellent Show. Well organised and planned. Mrs L Winkley, Accrington Everyone was very friendly. You seemed to have provided a good selection of organisations and firms. Well done! Jackie G, East Sheen I loved all of it. There was an excellent atmosphere and all exhibitors were so pleasant and helpful. Us ‘Oldies’ could teach the young to appreciate life more! Mrs R. Roos, East Kilbride Enjoyed the face-to-face discussions with the various service providers all under one roof. Mr Green, Kent A very good day. My favourite part? The whole show. Mr John L., London NW2 The whole organisation was excellent. All was appealing. Barbara Reeve, Cheadle My friend and I both found the show to be enjoyable and informative. Miss R. Spence, Glasgow Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Please come back next year. Mrs Katy Jack, Troon A wonderful show full of ideas. Mr Reg W., Guildford Whole exhibition interesting and informative, relaxing atmosphere and leisure facilities. Most enjoyable day. Excellent, all staff on stands friendly and informative and patient. Mr and Mrs Strelley, Glasgow Loved every minute of the day. Mrs Wiseman, Watford
Marketing & Advertising The 50+ Show is supported by a major marketing campaign, which includes newspaper, magazine, direct mail and internet advertising, as well as the use of the show’s 90,000-strong database of past visitors. Following in-depth analysis of advertising response data, the show’s marketing plan includes Saga magazine, the Daily Mail, Mail On Sunday, Daily Express, Sunday Express, Mature Times, Retirement Today and University of The Third Age magazine, as well as very extensive regional press advertising in each target market. Around 250,000 complimentary ‘Golden Tickets’ are sent to the target audience before each show. Visitors can also register for complimentary tickets via The 50+ Show website, by phone, email or by registering on-the-door. The advertising budget for The 50+ Show will continue to grow with major increases for all three shows.
Venues and timing Why Manchester Central? The well known former G-Mex is in the centre of the Greater Manchester Conurbation. Over 5m people live within an hour’s drive of Manchester Central.
Why London Olympia Grand Hall? London Olympia offers pillarfree space with natural lighting, excellent transport links and easy access. Olympia is popular and well-known to exhibitors and visitors.
Why the Glasgow SECC? The iconic SECC is at the heart of the largest urban area in Scotland – with a population of over 2.3m – which is served by the largest urban rail network outside of London. Why the timing? Surveys from the previous shows suggest that Friday and Saturday are the most convenient days for visitors, and all three shows are timed to be outside school holidays, for the convenience of both visitors and exhibitors.
