From THE FINE PRINT’S team Right now is a very exciting time for the fashion industry. Authentic creative values are emerging back after being long buried under the fast fashion system’s overproduction. Creatives of all kinds, specially fashion designers, are feeling a renewal of creative freedom, audacity and individuality. This is what Fashion Pop's 10th Anniversary Edition was all about: a vivid creative energy within a psychedelic yet groove decor covering the neobaroque interiors of Montreal’s historical Rialto Theatre. Six emerging designers presented their newest collections in front of a jury composed of nine industry movers. In order to remember and celebrate, The Fine Print Magazine produced Fashion Pop’s first-ever zine, gathering an eclectic mixed media selection of all visuals produced that night. Moreover, we’ve put forward the six participating designers and their universes, followered by an exclusive fashion editorial shot the night of and dedicated to Fashion Pop’s winner, S3tt3r47. We hope you enjoy it! xoxo, Bianca and Estelle

Whether it was backstage, front row or on the rooftop, the guests and models were on fleek! FASHION POP’s 10th edition was one hot soirée, see for yourself!

DESIGNER’S UNIVERSE

LAUGH

BENJAMIN LAFAILLE

Discover the 6 Montreal-based designers showcased during Fashion Pop’s 10th edition. Deconstruct. Reconstruct. Repeat. LAUGH, designer Benjamin Lafaille’s second line, was created following a personal awareness of the harmful influence of the clothing industry on the environment, and a need to do something about it. The thrift items that he handpicks are then reconstructed into one-of-a-kind garments, one more awesome than the other. LAUGH also represents a different way of seeing the buying cycle, as every piece is given a second life. This line is more accessible and versatile, making it a no-brainer when it comes to adding fun pieces to your wardrobe.

A MAN X CHOLO58 DAVID AUGUSTO

A man x Cholo58, as described by designer David Augusto, is aimed for the man that wants comfortable, practical yet trendy clothing to dress with on the daily. The man Augusto designs for often feels the weight of society on his shoulders, the constant ups and downs ahead of him. This sensible man has a strong desire to communicate, and can do so by the way that he dresses. He is intriguing, exotic and fascinating; he is David but he is also a part of you.

ONLOOKERS

TRICIA CRIVELLARO & PATRICIA NICOLAS

Targeting the observers, the “silent particulars with an eye for the hidden, designers Tricia and Patricia dress strong individuals with simple yet effective garments. These are the types of pieces you want to fill your wardrobe with, as their nonchalance and imperfection makes it look all too easy. Yet, this outside quietude just hides a storm within. If you look close enough, it is all in the details.

MARKANTOINE

Cheers to making your dreams come true and keep going forward. With that mentality in mind, designer Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert brings us down his rabbit hole with every new collection, one more elaborate than the last. The Pokemon lover lives in a world of his own, where the ordinary simply does not being to exist. So that when life gets a little dull, throw on your pink faux-fur collar and green sequins dress, and never look back.

At the converging point between the creative and industrial processes, Worldwide offers a modern perspective on the obsolete current fashion system. Their technical approach to garment production predicts an undoubtedly innovative shift to come. The brand defines itself as both a manufacturer and a label, and draws inspiration from art, literature, music, and technology. The collections are reflective of the designer’s personal universe; their own Worldwide.

S3TTL3R47 COURTNEY PEDERSON

If you don’t have fairy dust close by, no need to get off your unicorn, as Courtney Pedersen’s got you covered. The winner of this year’s Fashion Pop just needed a little push to make her fantasy come to life, and being accepted to the competition was well enough to make her aim for the stars. The elaborate garments are made out of recycled silk and cotton, and are designed so that you can twirl in them all night long. To the hopelessly romantic ladies, this one for y’all.

A

CONVERSATION

WITH

CAVERNS

ESTELLE GERVAIS spoke with the boys behind CAVERNS, the NYC-based band rock n’ rolling their way to the top, while BIANCA DI BLASIO directed this exclusive editorial shot by JODI HEARTZ.

Estelle: How did Nick, Russell and yourself first met and got Caverns going? Nick: We all met on a game show , trying win the girl! We were the three finalists. Ultimately, we were all disqualified for our shenanigans. Katz and I met in a police car... Russ boy held it down on the drums in the Bronx. Estelle: Each musician I've met has been deeply inspired by one they've listened extensively during their teenage years. Which one was yours and do they still influence your music to this day? Nick: It would be imposisble to pick one artist. I’d say it all started with The Beatles and the intense classical and jazz backround we grew up with. That moved to bands like [Pink} Floyd, [Black} Sabbath, [Led] Zeppelin and The Beach Boys. We were really into tons of arranging. Estelle: Tell me more about your evolution within the [fashion] industry. Nick: It all really started so fast. I had done commercial work as a kid. One of my good friends set up a meeting. that was that. I was really fortunate to work with Steven Meisel on my first shoot. Great guy. I thought to myself: ‘‘you can really do this and do it well’’. That’s when I started modeling full time. I was so damn busy, especially doing the music at the same time. Everyone along the way has been great. Now, it’s far more selective which gives me the freedom to run around and do my music.

Estelle: Your status as a top 50male on Models.com is one of the highest of the modelling industry. You're obviously not just a pretty face - what do you think made the difference for you to reach that professional level? Nick: Showing up and showing out! Its really simple. I had a great booking team and they knew what I was comfortable doing. Estelle: Not only do you walk for the best shows, you also happen to have played at one! Marc Jacobs picked Caverns to play at during his SS16 in New York, which gave your band well deserved international recognition! How did it feel like to be part of the show as a musician and not a model? Nick: Since I started modeling, I’ve always wanted to bridge the gap and it’s really fantastic that we are able to do that. It was fucking awesome to play that show. I think there will be more collaborations in the future, but for now were playing around with fashion in our live shows and new releases. Estelle: What kind of atmosphere revs you up while on stage? Nick: A psychadelic rainforest is best for us, we want to play for capibarras and tapers. We love to play loud! We also love small intimate spaces, where we can unleash our beasts to unsuspecting listeners. Thank you for having us in Montreal! We love the music scene up here! Woop woop!
