More Than A Game Our Mission To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

In Memoriam

His advice and wisdom will echo down the fairways forever. In 2016, golf lost a legend, ambassador and great friend of The First Tee. “Arnold had such tremendous belief in The First Tee as one of the Trustees,” said Tim Finchem, The First Tee board chair and former commissioner of the PGA TOUR. “He embodied The First Tee Nine Core Values and was a wonderful example for every young person who has participated in the program. His influence will continue to be felt for years to come.” Palmer appeared in a Public Service Announcement for The First Tee in 2012 and for the last several years co-chaired The First Tee Legacy Society with his good friend and fellow Trustee, Jack Nicklaus. “We will always remember Arnold Palmer as a longtime advocate and dear friend of The First Tee,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., chief executive officer of The First Tee. “He loved the game of golf and believed wholeheartedly in The First Tee’s mission. We are forever grateful for his imprint on this organization.”

Palmer congratulates Deacon Palmer Scholarship awardee Mallorey Stack, alumna from The First Tee of Pittsburgh. The scholarship, named after Palmer’s father, provides selected participants with financial assistance for college. Mallorey currently plays golf at the College of Wooster in Ohio.

Mr. Palmer’s generosity to The First Tee extended beyond the national level and into the communities where he lived. He invested in both The First Tee of Pittsburgh and The First Tee of Central Florida chapters, providing financial stability as they began their operations, and allowing them to establish endowments for programming and college scholarships. His namesake tournament, The Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by Mastercard, has brought The First Tee National School Program to more than 50 elementary schools in the Orlando area. Mr. Palmer served as honorary chair for both chapters until his passing. “Mr. Palmer was a truly warm and friendly man who put our participants at ease and inspired us to be the best we could be,” reflected Marc Field, executive director at The First Tee of Pittsburgh. In memory of The King, we raise our glasses of iced tea and lemonade to his legacy. 2
