OUR MISSION To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
Dear Friends, The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield enjoys many valuable resources — among them your financial contributions and gifts, our outstanding facilities, and collaborative community partnerships. But we are most proud of the one resource at the heart of The First Tee mission — our outstanding youth participants. On these pages you find not only the accomplishments of another successful year, but also a preview of the exciting work that will take place in the future. We believe that we can provide a more dynamic platform for the youth of our community. To that end, The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield recently adopted a comprehensive three-year strategic plan that directly supports our mission. Our plan seeks to maximize the quality and capacity of our Board, Staff, Programs, and Facilities to help make a life-long impact on the youth of the Richmond metropolitan area.
Specifically we will: STRENGTHEN our Board of Directors and model leading practices in nonprofit board governance. PROMOTE our brand and programs throughout the Richmond metropolitan area, inspired by the spirit of our Founders. SUSTAIN our programs and impact through resource development and partnerships. ACHIEVE consistent delivery of high-quality program offerings while adhering to The First Tee Life & Golf Skills Curriculum. OPTIMIZE our operations for greater effectiveness, efficiency, and impact.
The work ahead is demanding, but with your continued support our future is bright. As The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield continues to impact our participants through the First Tee Life Skills programs, the waterfall effect will positively influence the lives of Central Virginia’s youth for generations to come. Thank you for being such a big part of our efforts.

Life Skills Experience Certification Classes
Life Skills Experience certification classes are held nine months out of the year at our two facilities, The First Tee of Richmond and The First Tee of Chesterfield. Youth ages 5 to 18 from all backgrounds attend weekly classes and practice sessions and have the opportunity for league play and other special events. Through the Life Skills Experience program, youth receive The First Tee Nine Core Values, Nine Healthy Habits, and life skills training through the platform of golf. Participants begin at the Little Legends level for ages 5 and 6 or PLAYer level for ages 7 and older new to The First Tee program. As participants master the life skills curriculum and the golf skills needed for the next level, participants will then progress to the Par, Birdie, Eagle, and Ace levels.

What parents say: “Lauren has been playing competitive golf for the past 3 years and 2014 was a big year for her. She started out in April at the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National. She worked very diligently to try to win her way back, but in the third round of playoffs had a horrible day. Heartbroken, she hung in there and genuinely congratulated the winner. As we walked back to the car, I asked her how she kept it together. She looks at us and taps her finger to the First Tee Logo on her shirt and said, ‘This is who I represent, I have to have great sportsmanship.’ ” – Tracey Clark, Parent of youth participants at The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield
“We have always appreciated the program but this was by far the best year yet!” – Parent of two youth in The First Tee Program
