Roces Publication, successfully brings home the bacon

Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science-Tech nology High School (DARSSTHS) pub lication joined the District IV Second ary Schools Press Conference 2022 held in Eugenio M. Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior High School and won third place overall with the guidance of Mr. John Edmark Telesforo and Ms. Louchie Almoite which took place on Dec. 10, 2022.

The winners from the press conference are announced at the multi-purpose hall during the flag ceremony as a way for the school to express its sincere appreciation.

In order to help young journalists ex pand their skills and knowledge, the school welcomed speakers, guests, and trainers.

Despite being under time constraints, the participants managed to use all of the training advice and provide their best performance during the press conference.

Everyone was ecstatic and overwhelmed with joy upon learning that our school had made it into the top 3. Their efforts had clearly paid off.

Furthermore, the school paper advisers should be acknowledged, for this is their first time attending a face-to-face press conference, and they are already able to guide their students well.

Mr. John Edmark Telesforo, Flint’s school pa per adviser, was even surprised and grateful for winning third place overall since all the schools that attended were really a great challenge for everyone.

“Since it’s my first time, I was really happy with the result because I didn’t expect it na mag thithird tayo. Ang inexpect ko lang makakapag participate tayo and we will, of course, win something but I didn’t expect na mag thithird tayo.” said by Mr. John Edmark Telesforo.

Everyone hopes that we can maintain this rank as they look forward to what will happen in the next phase of this press conference.

After a lapse of two years due to the pandemic, District 4 Secondary School Press Conference (DSPC) returned on-site with the theme, “Campus Journalism: Locally Responsive, Globally Engaged” commenced on Eugenio M. Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior High School (ELJMASHS) last Dec. 10, 2022.

DSPC is where all witness the tough battle of school journalists from all-over District 4. With pens and passion as their weapons, the contest began as the delegates of each category went to their respective rooms to start the workshop and contest proper.

Everyone was filled with excitement as the Presscon was finally back on face-to-face set up, although some of them hadn’t been fully adapted.

“I am still adapting, it’s not the past tense yet. Since we are Filipinos, we are resilient, we adapt to all the things that are given to us.” the SPA of Quezon City High School remarked.

Multiple members of the COOP and the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) also made donations to the school, and volunteered for the different jobs needed for this Brigada.

Along with the faculty members and parents, students from various school clubs also came to join in the motorcade parade which aims to campaign the Brigada Eskwela program and invite others in the community to join.

This kickoff program was held with the help of multiple school partners. Though there were difficulties such as the challenge of the pandemic, and time constraint due to their short span of time to prepare the activities – the event was still put together successfully.

Miguel Padolina from 10 - Ramon Magsaysay placed 1st under Science Writing Category in the 2022 Division Secondary Press Conference held at San Francisco High School last February 25.

Padolina ranked 7th during the district-level competition at Eugenio Lopez Media Arts Center last December 2022, which made him proceed to division level.

According to him, his personal experience with the contest wasn’t the best since the event was badly organized, and he also felt the pressure of the competition. Yet, despite the terrible situation, he still managed to win the contest.

“At first, I was extremely confused and couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. I was overjoyed with the outcome of the contest and am extremely grateful to all who supported me,” Padolina stated.

The program also opened questions about the face-to-face classes this August 22, 2022. While many still have doubts such as Ms. Janel Katrice Tan (Head of the Senior Scouts of Roces) who said “Since we still have COVID, and the monkeypox virus is on the rise, so I’m still concerned for our health and safety. Even though I’m miss face-to-face classes, I’m still concerned.” Some are also already happy about our advancement towards going to the new normal, such as Ms. Claire Ella (School Partnership Focal Person) who said that she thinks the face-to-face classes will recharge us and will make it easier for the students to learn due to the convenience of being in the classroom and being able to ask questions easily.

Flint: Effectively Conducts a Club Brigada

In time for the approaching face-to-face classes, Flint members and advisers attended Brigada Eskwela on Aug. 9 at 9:00 a.m., held in the Flint clubroom at Don Alejandro Roces Sr. ScienceTechnology High School (DARSSTHS) campus. This activity consisted of a club meeting where everyone introduced themselves, followed by a cleanup of the clubroom With the editorial board, club members, and club adviser Mr. John Edmark Telesforo present, Flint began by going over the club's plans for S.Y. 2022-2023, a few members gave suggestions on how to make this year better for the Rocesians. The club adviser promised that this year's school journalism would be different.

In the afternoon, the remaining attendees, along with Mrs. Maricel Delos Reyes, a former Flint adviser, helped to clean and decorate the clubroom. Several club members gave donations and also provided cleaning and decoration supplies.

The clubroom has not been used in more than two years, and as the start of face-toface classes nears, Flint wants to ensure that it is kept clean and maintained. It took the collective efforts of the entire club to make this activity a success.

The Flint’s Editor-in-chief, Ms. Lizette Mikylla Miguel, says that she used her position to encourage all Flint members to clean and decorate the clubroom. In that simple way, she made the club brigada possible

Despite the challenges, the activity was still organized effectively, thanks to the club’s teamwork.

“I think the challenge we encountered is lack of materials. But, since we had our teamwork, we still finished our brigada successfully.” Ms. Lizette Mikylla Miguel, the Editor-in-chief, said.

The brigada brought delight and enjoyment to many people. “Brigada is really tiring but on the other hand, it is fun. Helping each other, being with new people, and having a new environment is good for every student who deserves to be happy,” Ms. Herlyn Faith Embone,

Mapeh Club Presents

According to Ms. Alyssa Comia, one of the Grade 9 representatives, “At first, being one of the representatives of my section makes me very confident. All of my members really wanted to pursue and win the event. Although we know it wasn’t perfect since we only have spare time to practice, we can say that

Grade 10 representatives from Emilio Aguinaldo; Clarisse Montes, Stefhanie Madjus, Farah Basabas, Lauren Crisostomo, and Cassandra Nameria, brought home the trophy for the “Physipop” competition. “Even though we are unplaced, I’m still happy to show off my talent. What matters most is how we’ve enjoyed the process behind it, we were able to form a good bond with each other. It was a surreal experience to be performing in front of a crowd. One more step, and the girls and I will be on stages and dancing their hearts out!” Ms. Alyssa Comia added.

MAPEH Month is not about competition to see who’s the best, but showcasing their talents with their hearts. Contestants, club officers, and judges felt pressure, yet the main purpose of this club is to enjoy and let them witness what you can do.

The purpose of this event is to evaluate the success of the Brigada Eskwela and to assess the school’s preparation for how they open this School Year 2022-2023.

The program started with singing the nationalistic song, followed by the opening prayer led by Mrs. Maria Ave B. Roque, a Chairman of the Resource and Mobilization Committee.

MAHARLIKA

The Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), also known as the Maharlika Wealth Fund (MWF), aims to invest in the Philippines' development of its estate and programs and was proposed by the House of Representatives last November 2022. Seven legislators filed House Bill 6398 to put forth the implementation and process of the Ma harlika Wealth Fund, a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) that uses the country's reserved funds and excess capital to boost its projects.

The Maharlika Wealth Funds will be operated and handled by the public government specifi cally to fund and invest in big projects such as Domestic and Foreign Bonds, Commercial Real Estate, Infrastructures, Mutual and Exchange-traded Funds, Joint Ventures or Co-investments, and Foreign Commodities.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. claimed that MIF would contribute to the growth of the admin istration and the country’s infrastructure schemes and plans.

Yearly subsidies and dividends from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) are predicted to con tribute to the Maharlika Fund. The calculated dividends from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for 2022 are about to be around P30 billion, as stated by BSP Deputy Governor Francisco Dakila Jr. in a House hearing on Dec. 9, 2022.

The House of Representatives immediately approved the Maharlika Investment Fund Bill just two weeks after it was propounded by the legislators.

The Supreme Council solemnly promised to examine and analyze the MIF this year, 2023. Aside from the Philippines, other countries also use their sovereign wealth funds to improve their assets, such as Oil funds, Pension Investments, and Financial Holdings.

The Search for Brigada Eskwela results was released on Mar. 1, 2023, with DARSSTHS ranking second in the best-implementing school.

Due to the teachers’ cooperation, or “Bayanihan,” in handling and preparing papers for the Brigada, DARSSTHS placed second even without the Brigada Chairman.

“Dahil nga wala na sa school yung pinaka Brigada Chairman, yung mga teachers nakita mo yung pagtutulungan talaga nila kahit na nasa ibang school na si ma’am Claire ay talagang nagbayanihan para maidaos itong Brigada Eskwela.” Stated by Mrs. Jasthyne Cates B. Salazar, the school’s assistant principal.

People express themselves in different ways, and some prefer to do so with their hair. Everyone, preferably the entire society, is aware that hair is a popular way for people to express themselves. Numerous people experiment with different hairstyles, colours, and cuts in order to express their creativity through their hair. Some people even think that changing the way you wear your hair can help you express your identity in a unique way. Well, hair can mean many different things to many different students. It might signify the beginning of a new phase of life or simply be a fashion idea that was taken from someone else or another source of internet. Therefore, everyone should have complete freedom to choose whichever haircut they want. However, does this apply to the Philippines’ school policy? Do they allow the students the option to express themselves through their hair?

The Department of Education (DepEd) published DO 32, S. 2017, or also known as the Gender-Responsive Basics Education Policy during the Duterte administration. The directive mandates student equality and against prejudice. However, despite being issued, the order does not address the student haircut policy. Long hair is preferred by some male students because it enhances their appearance. Youngsters who identify as different genders can express themselves through their preferred hair length and styling. However, as in-person guidance resumed, some students vented their annoyance

The haircut rule, according to school officials, is a way to enforce uniformity or make every student presentable. The haircut policy in schools only serves to reinforce social norms regarding what a man or woman should look like. Furthermore, a Human Rights Watch report claims that transgender students are pressured into adhering to the hair-length regulations out of fear. Students are limited in their ability to express their gender identity at school. Is a school's capacity to enforce uniformity a more idealistic barometer of a high-quality academic opportunity than its demonstration of civility and respect?

Some schools reportedly forbid students who violate the haircut policy from enrolling in classes, attending classes, or even entering the school property. For example, four trans women who were graduating were denied access to their graduation ceremonies a few months ago because of their long hair. Particularly in junior and senior high schools, where students start to learn more about themselves and find independence, this exclusive policy from the past disregards student diversity. In fact, these instances of improper acts go as far as what might be regarded as discrimination and exploitation based solely on gender.

TheNightAway

Junior-Senior Promenade (JS Prom) is one of the most anticipated events in high school. It is significant to every student, particularly the 9th and 10th graders. Excitement and expectations fill the students’ minds since this is a night they are looking forward to, where they will dress enchantingly, savor every moment, watch and be mesmerized by the cotillion performance, and dance the night away.

SCHOOL POLICY: Discipline

A student’s haircut has no bearing on how well they can learn. They should indeed get the haircut of their choice because it will boost their self-esteem and help them perform better in school because young people’s educational success and levels of confidence are closely related. The ability of a person to succeed academically is unrelated to the length of his hair, and even more importantly, one’s hair does not define who they are. There is no reason to believe that these factors could affect how well a student performs in class. The implementation of this policy infringes on the youth’s fundamental right to obtain a quality education, guaranteed by the “Philippine Constitution of 1987”, as well as their human right to display their true selves. A person’s hair is regarded as their greatest asset. Their hair serves as an extension of who they are and their right to self-determination.

APrejudice

A DepEd memorandum that declares assistance for these ideas would be a positive development. The creation of educational policies should be done with the input of student regents who speak for the children's best interests. Can the institution uphold its commitments to encourage gender equality and create a non-discriminatory learning environment for students if haircut policies are in place as a "basic discipline" to help students become legislation individuals?

Instilling trust in students should be the ultimate goal of our academic system. The youth’s productive self-discovery of their strong points and desires must be supported by the educational system if the Filipino dream is to continue. The practice of forcing young children to simply follow rules is obviously intended to teach them mindless submission and blind obedience, but my point is that they should first understand that other factors other than their rights also matter in the established order. Our rights conflict, and it’s not just a question of whether it affects gender discrimination or academics; it’s also a question of knowing when and how to follow rules.

37th Celebration of People Power Revolution: Another Marcos Regime?

Freedom and democracy have always been the arteries of the 1986 People Power Revolution since the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. Millions of Filipinos walked with their blood and sweat along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) to start a new free democracy for the Philippines.

We are young for one single time; we are high school students for once too. Prom is a once-in-a-lifetime event for each of us. We want the event to be per- fect and reach our expectations. I look forward to it not just because it’s my first time but also because I want to witness the dazzling gowns and bright venue, and of course, I want to picture myself in this remarkable event. It excites me how I romanticize this prom: dancing the night away under the moonlight while screaming to the music, and admiring every moment like there is no tomorrow. A night of stars with colorful flowers surrounding me and the feeling of perfection. Prom is not just about fancy ideas that are building in our minds; it is also a night where you share bonds with your friends, socialize with the people around you, and have this dance with your chosen partner. Well, you don’t need a partner to enjoy the night, you just need to let yourself be the most beautiful and handsome person and shine as brightly as the glaring lights all over the place.

This anticipated momentum will fade, and we will be grown-ups, looking back from the pictures with overflowing memories of us in flashy dresses, with genuine smiles on our faces. We will never go back to when we were mere students having fun. Promenade isn’t about how fancy we are but how we can truly enjoy what high school feels like, a time you can remember that you have a mystical youth.

THE FLINT 2022-2023

37 years have passed since the EDSA Revolution happened, which ousted Marcos Sr. from leading our country. Filipinos rejoiced in triumph as they successfully fought against the violent and brutal regime. It was a long game for the people who lived under that dictatorial government. The legacy of the People Power Revolution slowly vanished when another Marcos got the victory in the 2022 Presidential Elections. Over the years, it fades from the Filipinos’ minds how courageous they are to protect and ought for the country’s democracy.

Every 25th of February is a reminder to every Filipino how the people under the Marcos Sr. Regime raised their voice for sovereignty for the Philippines. After 37 years since the revolution, this is the first time that the country is celebrating under the Marcos Regime.

Another Marcos after banishing Marcos? Will history repeat itself? They let Marcos Sr. run the country under dictatorship, which set the people in motion to force him out. Will another People Power take place in this generation under the government of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos?

Through the years, people, especially the youth, never shut up to protect our democracy, that was fought for by the Filipinos in the past years. We will not asking for another People’s Power Revolution, and another dictatorship under the same name in this generation. We strive for a better government, not a bloodthirsty regime again.

COVID-19 CASES ARE LOWERING

3% of the governments target have had their vaccine shot based on the DOH Around 20 million people had their booster shots To add to that information, 6 9 million senior citizens have received their vaccine doses Although many people are still infected by COVID-19 we can be glad that the number of cases is lowering and our society is slowly healing from the damages caused by the COVID-19 outbreak Our country is still undergoing COVID-19; many businesses closed, and countless people lost their jobs but we can be a bit satisfied that the cases are lowering because of the collective efforts of each of our citizens

DearJairo,

First of all, I truly admire how brave you are to speak out I know it’s hard to speak up in this kind of struggle you are facing now

I can say that we’re just the same I’m with you in this, so I understand you We keep craving their validation. We’re trying to be just like them to be accepted, Some of us are struggling to fit ourselves into society just to be accepted We’re trying to change ourselves for them to acknowledge us But do we need their opinions for us to be better?

Remember, you don’t need to be better for their eyes to be pleased Stop being a camouflaged person who’s adapting to their society and keep hiding yourself Stand out and be the glowing shade of yourself

You don’t need to satisfy people just for them to like you You can’t control people’s thoughts, but thinking about what they are saying is just a waste of time for you Society must be cruel, but just look at the beautiful parts of it, where you can truly find yourself happy Take that mask off, and let them see your beautiful smile You are not a clown; you are you Get out of that closet and wear the brightest version of yourself

Jairo, I know it will be a long game for you to find your true self, to find your complete confidence, and to show who you really are, yet you need to know that being who you are and doing what you really love is the greatest achievement you will reach Every step you take matters

When the time comes, when you have already gotten out of that "closet" of yours, some people will give their opinions, and some will be proud of you But, remember, all of their words are irrelevant; you, yourself, are the only thing that is important Sooner or later, you will realize that you don’t need them; you just need to be yourself and independently stand out as you

To The Editor

DearEditor-In-Chief,

I'm

isolating in a closet where I'm comfortable being myself It's hard to think that we live in a society where expectations are just endless It feels like I'm obligated to meet them And, I'm right here looking like a clown trying to reach those standards But despite the fact that I'm doing my best to fit in, if I show my true character, it occurs to me that I'm still not enough for them Am I still being me? Or I'm just craving for people's acceptance Who really am I?

Stuck in a Loophole

tudents go to school with different personalities and different experiences. One enters school as themselves, then exits as a new person. If one asks a group of students about their daily prob lems, a lot of answers can be taken. The Philippines is one of the countries that suffer greatly from these. In recent studies from 2018, Filipino students starting at the age of 15 show poor reading comprehension— to be exact, the Philippines was in the 79th rank out of the 79 countries. But the problems don’t stop there. Not only this generalized problem the Filipino students suffer from. It also includes financial lack to continue learning, family problems, and what looks like the never-ending pandemic. Many students at the climax of this pandemic suffered greatly in terms of focus. Recently, there were students complaining and saying to their current teacher that they “haven’t learned anything” for the past two years online. Seems to be quite the hyperbole, but when asking even more students, it does look like online school learning didn’t let them retain anything. Having your learning space be limited to only your house is difficult for most Filipinos, leading them to sadness, hopelessness, or depression. The sudden changes might have caused issues that they could not easily cope with. When they feel like they cannot take it anymore, they lead to a point with no return. Although the government says that there is help and they are only “one call away,” many seem to complain as they must wait a long time since the call is always on-hold. Aside from this, a division between classes and hierarchies in the Philippines is extremely discernable. It might be a joking matter to others, but when looking deeper at the statement, this causes issues inside the classroom or the world outside the campus. Nowadays, top educators enter a high-class school when they should serve the learners who are devoted to studying. They choose to be in a place where the wages are higher, leaving the others in the dust. The teachers also face a great problem: the lack of educators across the country. Many choose not to be a teacher, as their wages are low. Teachers are losing hope. It is not understandable how the government acts as if they do not hear anything. It has been long overdue, but the government keeps turning a blind eye to these teachers, asking for a wage increase in compensation for all the work they have been receiving. Both sides experience different problems, yet ask for the same answer: change. For years and years, this has been the problem. Why is it so hard to help individuals in the education sector, starting from the students, then to the teachers? There is no such harm to help, but in recent times help has only been given only to the chosen. Both sides experience different problems, yet ask for the same answer: change. “NO ID, NO ENTRY POLICY”

chools have implemented a “No ID No Entry” policy to ensure that only students and staff are allowed on school grounds. This policy is in place to keep students, teachers, and staff safe and to ensure that only those who belong in the school are allowed in. The policy aims to motivate or compel the students, teachers, and staff in wearing their IDs in entering and inside school premises.

The purpose of this policy is to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the school and potentially committing any criminal activities. It also helps the school to maintain records of who is coming in and out of the building.

No Jeep?

Filipinos Weep!

s the government forced traditional jeepneys to be phased out in favor of more environmentally friendly modern jeeps, jeepney drivers and operators began their strike on March 6. Several drivers across the country started driving in protest against President “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s plan to phase out the traditional jeepneys. This modernization doesn’t affect only the drivers, but all the Filipino commuters.

Shadow Behind The Polaris

University of the Philippines (UP) Fair, the largest student-run advocacy-led music concert, was back after three years after the pandemic. Historically, this movement serves as a platform to dissent against the Marcos regime. Upsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity, a group of people with numerous unresolved issues of violence, organized the UP Fair 2023, including Polaris as part of the lineup.

Disappointments were heard from social media since the UP Fair handlers announced Polaris as part of the fair. It is displeasing how they include it knowing the people behind that organization. Giving privileges to fraternities like Upsilon is the negligence of the event’s core advocacy. To allow this organization to join as one of the handlers in the event is an instance of discourtesy to the essence of the movement. Why would they include an organization with a history of impunity in this event with an advocacy of a safe place and dissenting of violent people?

The label of UP Fair is a protest. A music festival carrying different advocacies. Homophobia, misogyny, and violence are promoted by letting Upsilon as one of the night handlers. If you’re voicing to end discrimination and brutality, then you shouldn’t let a fraternity host a big platform.

People may be blinded by the light of the Polaris, knowing popular and known artists will perform at the concert, yet there is this dark shadow behind its back. It might sound exciting, yet who are you supporting? You enjoy the chaotic music concert, but are you aware that you also patronize people with problematic issues?

Through the years since Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr.’s regime, voicing out and raising funds for the beneficiaries, protests against brutality, discrimination, and impunity have always been the vision of UP Fair until now. Yet, enabling a notorious group of people with a history of immunity and violence to be part of the movement is like burying the main essence of the motion.

SPEAK NOW, ROCESIANS SPEAK NOW, ROCESIANS

What do you think of the school’s reputation?

From the outside, the school seems to be sophisticated and for the “brainy” people for me. I mean yes the student’s here are smart but what I used to imagine the school before changed when I got in. But our school is pretty much okay, just like any other school but they have things to offer others don’t have like you know the tech-voc they have. - Grade 9 Student, “August”

What can you say about the school’s issues? What can you propose as solutions?

There are lots of issues at school, thus I believe the SSG officers should consult with the principal or the teachers to find solutions. - Rio Nicole Nieras, 8 - Jose Rizal

Do you think Roces is a gender-friendly community?

In general, no, and to be honest, no, because there are still teachers here that are not open-minded; they acknowledge it, but they seem to draw a line when people express their gender expression further. Let’s just use guys’ femininity; again, a guy being feminine doesn’t equate their gender expression and sexuality, but some teachers still use the word “gay” or “bakla” as somewhat of an insult to some. Not to mention the teachers who say “na panay sita sa mga queer people ng buhok nila, like let the gays and trans peeps grow their hair.” - Grade 9 Student

First Impression to our new principal?

From my first impression, I think she is nice. And based on her background and credentials, she can lead our school better. Also, she’s a doctor and a science teacher, so she can think more critically about school solutions and projects. - Mr.

By implementing this policy, school administrators can be sure that everyone on campus is verified and approved to be there.

By requiring all visitors to present a valid form of identification, we have been able to ensure that all individuals entering our school grounds are legitimate and not a threat to our students’ teachers or staff. This policy is an important part of our school’s security measures and has been a great way to protect our school community.

The safety and security of students, teachers, and staff are a top priority for schools. To ensure that everyone on campus is safe and accounted for, many schools have implemented a “No ID No Entry” policy.

Moving to a modern, eco-friendly jeepney is a good idea since it is way more comfortable compared to traditional jeepneys. But this cost between $1.3 and $2.4 million. The government warned that they risk losing their jobs if they are unable to acquire the latest Jeep after Dec. 31. How are the drivers who don’t have enough money able to buy this? Before imposing the deadline, the government should ensure that everyone can pay it and that no one will be left behind.

It is disheartening to see the drivers crying at the top of their voices, pleading with the government to put an end to its plan to phase out the traditional Jeeps, which are their main source of daily income. It is evident how anti-poor the government is when people lose their livelihoods for failing to afford a modern unit.

People think that having a “No ID No Entry” policy is a good idea when it comes to ensuring the safety of people in certain spaces. It can help create a secure environment, as people can be identified and checked to make sure that they are allowed to be in space. This can help reduce the risk of unauthorized access, and can also help prevent people from bringing weapons or other dangerous items into space. It can also help protect the privacy of those who are allowed in the space, as they will know that only those who are authorized can gain entry.

Not only the drivers, but commuters are going to be the most affected during the week-long strike. While the drivers are protesting to save their livelihoods, commuters are suffering from a transportation crisis. The government made no effort to check on the Filipinos, who are striving every day for survival. Selfishness abounds among our country’s leaders, as evidenced by their failure to consider how the people suffer.

It’s pathetic how they consider the environment, but not the people they are serving. Jeepney phaseout isn’t the only solution for an eco-friendly community. It’s anti-poor. It will have a big impact on both drivers and commuters. It will also increase the use of private vehicles, which will result in more traffic jams and a transportation crisis. The government must subsidize jeepney drivers purchases of contemporary units.

Look at how our leaders keep themselves unbothered while flying across the country with their jets and airplanes, while poor Filipinos, who are thriving on the ground under the heat of the sun, are weeping to save their livelihood.

The Discriminatory Treatment to all The Discriminatory Treatment to all L LG

GBBTTQQIIA+ A+ Members Members

This issue has been debated for a long time But people still act on their convictions rather than using common sense

If we want unity, understanding, and equality, why can't Filipinos learn to accept LGBTQIA+ members?

I as a friend of an LGBTQIA+ member was very disappointed in the actions that people give them

It's not fair I only wish is for equality but nothing seems to be improving For other people this issue is considered only as a joke and nothing more

We need to respect all people and accept them for who they are Stop giving them the dehumanizing treatment they don't deserve Should people who just want merriment be despised and laughed at? Is it okay that because of their sexual orientation and gender identity they will no longer be accepted by society fairly?

They are forced to become religious and will experience economic marginalization That is not right at any angle We all have a right, and that right is to live But how can our lives be liberated if discrimination still prevails?

RIAL RIAL

The majority of students from whichever school agree that cafeteria food is costly

Some of them report their concerns directly to the school administration, while some prefer a public call-out on social media free for anyone to see, share, or comment on their opinions

The difference between the two matters none since both discrete and public methods indicate the same concerned students

While they have the right to point out anomalies they encounter in the system and take their stand, a research and thorough breakdown of the topic would not hurt

They should be protected from hate speech and harassment, given the right to study and work properly, protected from abusive treatment by their parents and given the freedom to go out and stop people who deter them from being free

Our government should implement the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Bill or AntiDiscrimination Bill But how? How will the government enforce this law if they are also the ones who discriminate against people?

I had this classmate who laughed at my friend for being bisexual My instructor called my LGBTQIA+ friend a boy because that is their sex My classmate simply laughed and made fun of my friend by saying "Boys daw boy ka ba? Haha!"

Even though my friend identifies as bisexual and uses the pronoun they/them My male classmate could have avoided making fun of him but he did not That does not make him any less of a person, but this makes his mentality questionable

That s an example of hate speech and discrimination coming from a teenager They should learn early and understand why equality is crucial

Consider this: although the individual hasn't done anything wrong, they are being called names judged teased laughed at and harassed Do you believe everything is in order? Is it appropriate that people treat one another this way? Why shouldn't goodness win out? How can young people who see this kind of violence on social media determine if it is morally correct or wrong?

If no change happens right now, the youth will no longer be the hope of our country because of the mentality they inherit from their community

The astoundingly high price of onions in the Philippines is a reflection of the country's inflation crisis which compelled the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr , to open rolling shops, release smuggled products, and import from neighbouring nations

Although many individuals have perished because of its price, the reason for the irrational increase in price is still unclear to them Given the nation's economic situation, the Filipinos have many theories about this case Did it really cause inflation to the Philippines? Are Filipino farmers affected because of this massive change?

The administration claims that this choice was made because there is a larger market than there is supply, which is causing the price to keep rising Furthermore, this ignorance might result in a surplus in the nation and losses on both sides Why did this concept suddenly enter their thinking? Nevertheless, a number of farmer organizations including the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag), had already suggested importing in November and December of last year to address the rise in onion prices Having said that, this strategy is absurd and seems to endanger the livelihoods of Filipino farmers

Filipino farmers will suffer a great deal As a result, the government does not have any aspiration or even a single plan to support farmers and the agricultural industry While the process will result in lower farmgate prices, there is no assurance that prices will decrease at the same rate since distribution and other transaction fees will continue to be high The reality is that this plan lacks certainty If stealing and market manipulation are not eliminated from the nation, onions and other commodities will continue to be in high demand In conclusion, the nation's supply is operating normally

Today's onion prices are not to be laughed at People are in fact moved to tears However, if the Marcos administration's importation plan is implemented someone will probably eventually cry And without a doubt, it's the farmers in the Philippines They appear to be submerging farmers alive in their farmland as a result of what they are doing And the measures they thought would be good solutions are actually very bad for crops

Schools that receive complaints regarding said anomalies in the system should learn to take it as constructive criticism and digest opinions Since this problem concerns many, the municipality itself should be able to elucidate both the validity of the students’ criticism and the high prices in school canteens

There are many external and internal factors that contribute to “overpricing ” The unsteady gasoline prices the rent an inefficient budgeting method, the economic crisis our country is facing or simply markup

Aren’t all these, and probably many others, simple enough to explain? People question their decisions for them to provide answers and justify the system they built

Cafeteria and school staff should never be inclined to answer why the food they were assigned to sell is costly when they are not paid nearly enough to do so It is not them we should ask because they are not the root cause of this They are not the problem Isn’t it a common decency to think thoroughly before we ask questions? Is reading the manual before concluding it useless?

Canteen food is cheap considering all these factors Canteen food is “overpriced” only when these variables are disregarded Yes it is higher than normal but consider all contributing factors before criticism Learn to lower the opacity of your mind to avoid asking the wrong questions to the wrong people With all the features that come with inflation, these high” prices are somewhat justified

It is likely that onions will predominate in the open markets given the expected arrival of tons of them Having knowledge of how easily the word "manufactured" blinds Filipinos we will become overly dependent on imported onions as a result, forcing local farmers to accept lower farmgate prices in order to sell their goods and prevent them from going bad If those in positions of authority genuinely care, they ought to think about how they are denying their fellow Filipinos a living How will they make up any losses if there are any?

Farmers, buyers, and the government must pursue dishonest traders and stop their squandering and market manipulation right away in order to deal with the supply problem, which has increased rising inflation This must be accomplished while also increasing government output and aiding regional onion farmers in trading

The government must increase farmer productivity, which is considered by economists to be a potential remedy for price inflation in the Philippines

It's time to halt the ignorance and maltreatment of Filipino farmers They haven't experienced a system that is cruel to their livelihood in ten years Is mercy so costly that our government is unable to provide it for our farmers? People think that a kilo of onions is still more cost prohibitive than a small amount of mercy which they actually merited all along In the end, some people would rather consume food without onions than jeopardize the livelihoods of Filipino farmers If this keeps up Filipinos will be left to bear the costs of this administration's lack of action and inadequate planning In fact, neither resilience nor "unity" can resolve this

Nine - ty-five. I sighed. “Ninety-five lang.” I don’t get it. This number was once my goal, yet it disappoints me now. Seeing people who are better than me feels like a series of losses. A tradition of drawing a line between the “exceptional” students and the average seems to be the system for the ‘star section’. Knowledge, skills, performance, everything is being rated. How am I suddenly a jack of all trades in this ocean of masters? I’m lost once again. I am no longer a surfer, I’ve become a risk-taker. Either I or this wave will suffer. Upin the Morning, An Article About the “Full-Blast” Setup

Awareness, Rights, and Inclusiveness!

Deleter(2022):Theonly MMFFentryworthwatching?

It doesn’t feel pretty good getting up in the morning. The sound of that infuriating alarm that tells me that I should start the day, the busy bustling of the streets even at 5 a m , the aroma of newly-cooked breakfast on the table that, instead of delighting me, makes every pore in my body burst open because I know that I’m about to have a sense of urgency if I don’t want to be late Don’t get the wrong idea. The feeling isn’t new to me; it simply doesn’t exactly excite me at all. But why so? Is it because I have been used to just seeing the ‘loading’ sign in front of me for the past three years? Or that I could simply wait in bed until the teacher sends the class a GMeet link? These ideas rummage through my head as I stare at the neatlyironed uniform hanging at my closet door.

“Of course, it starts with Mondays,” I sigh. And there, I knew that the beginning of the full blast had begun Breakfast – the meal they consider the most important one. I remember skipping this every morning just so I could get to the bus stop earlier than when the street sweepers began their job. But then again, that was three years ago. Today, I followed a plain sequence of activities; I sat, I ate, I brushed my teeth, then headed on I tried to think of possible reasons why I don’t feel excited as other students who post about their expectations on Twitter or Facebook Most say that what excites them is to be in their “old environment.” However, every time I think of that, the three words that come to mind are; gadgets, bed, and food – and they felt like a combo pack, something that I could have right in front of me all at once. Surprisingly, when I got to school, my surroundings made me feel welcomed, not exactly ‘at home’ – but welcomed Students chatted along the hallways. They shared about how they struggled about having to be ‘techies’ and how they felt good being back because now, they wouldn’t feel frustrated as much as they had been I approached several students, and as it turns out, their views were alike “Comparing this setup to the one we had a couple years ago; I don’t think a lot has changed with this full-blast thing going on Nevertheless, it feels ice because my friends and I are all in one place again ” “I would honestly rather be in this setup than to be stuck at home and read all my modules on my own ” “I have high hopes that this school year will be better than last year It’s pretty challenging having to put my phone on silent mode and not go through my newsfeed during class hours, but it’s good to be back ” heir statements helped me identify how I actually felt about the face-to-face approach to this new school year

Some things held me back; my gadgets, being relaxed, and having the answers in my hands once Google’s search results showed up But something pushed me forward as well; my responsibility as a student. question of whether there is a life after death is asked at the beginning of Deleter, which is frequently the foundation of Filipino horror stories and literature. The aswangs, kapres, and malignoshavebecomemoreofafolklore to scare children than a point of horror interest in light of the rise in existential concerns among the working class. Miss Maria Purificacion R. Razon, known for being stern, but has a passionate and golden heart inside. She was a past educator in Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science-Technology Highschool (DARSSTHS) and was once awarded the Most Outstanding Teacher back in 2005.

“I thought it was impossible for me to win, because I am known for being a very strict teacher and not close with most of my co- teachers and school administrators,” she stated. She embarked on a journey, with a full desire to teach her students how to be a good individual and a positive change in society. But the real question behind those words is.

How was she as a teacher?

Some might repeatedly say that she is someone who is strict, and some might acknowledge how she slowly blooms each student’s flowers.

“The thing I remember most about Ms. Razon is that she insisted on writing her complete name every time. If you write her name on the page, it must be “Miss Maria Purificacion R. Razon” with no letters missing and even period,” her past student stated.

She became one of the shimmering lights of a school that is yet to be discovered and known around the world. It was beyond uplifting to witness that she grew those small seeds in the garden and made them blossom.

As she took the step out, it might be a moment of waving of hands and shedding tears— your presence might be gone, but your impact stays.

Game with Pointless Aims

Iblink my eyes twice, feeling hopeless as I hit the screaming alarm clock in the morning that tells me to get up and start my day. Gates are opened, and I hear my deafening steps as I walk down the ghost hallways of this school. After I climbed an innumerable flight of steps, I finally reached my room and entered. When I peered through the position of the dusty eyes of my classmates, I saw it directed to the empty teacher’s table. I stare at the moving fingers of the clock that seems to be wiggling its fingers at me, telling me that no one will show up. The sole purpose of educators is to shape the lives of their students. Are their aims called pointless as we start to see the blinding truth?

I went through my childhood understanding that the most distinguished profession is teaching. My head and heart ache as I beg to disagree when all my realizations clobber me hard as time ticks by. “The best teachers are those who show you where to look but don’t tell you what to see.” All we’ve got now are sleeping lecturers that hide away from their students. So which goal do they intend to fulfill? I can’t help to think that instead of pouring learners directly onto molds, spilling countless hopes and dreams of their students would be inevitable.

Waiting for my teachers is like waiting for the paint to dry. Except waiting for the paint to dry is better. At the end of every quarter, educators continuously shoot us strict and quizzing eyes that ask us endlessly, “What have you learned?” when all they did was make us chase truckloads of activities and watch countless video lessons they never explained thoroughly. And they expect us to magically transform into sponges, to absorb all the topics they never taught. Everything is meaningless. Learners now study to survive, not to grasp the lessons intended for us to understand due to limited time.

“An inch of time is an inch of gold, but you can’t buy an inch of time with an inch of gold.” If we continue to deprive ourselves of our happy seconds just for compulsory self-studying, it should be just that students must get paid for teaching themselves too. This fact alone deems the educational system colossal of faultiness. It hurts to face that in the most challenging times, the closest members of our guild proceed to wear a blindfold away from the truth. As this continues, generations of youth will cease to battle life brutally as we do—a death by a thousand cuts impaled by some under-competent monsters with which we are forced to share the same room.

One of the below bare minimum teachers taught us about a quote from G. K. Chesterton, “Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” I guess Chesterton was right. Some of the dragons we must face are the ones teaching us about his quote.

As I imagine the day we leave this school, with stacks of certificates and medals that nearly tied us up too hard upon our necks, I can finally say that I have overcome the dragons. The dragons that were supposed to be our star, our hero, our inspiration. “If I ever stood up against them, would I have changed the improper behavior of my supposed superstars? If my cries were loud enough, would they have listened to me concerning the teachers’ favoritisms, foul words, and unpaid debts to their students?” Are these the final thoughts Roces brands upon its children? A game like this with pointless aims is dreadful if you ask me.

Valentine’s Day: When Does Love Give Out?

Anew day has begun. The weather was calm and bright as she walked down the street, and the filthy smoke of jeepneys penetrated her nose. She started her day with exhaustion and back pain, but this day was unlike the other days. It was full of roses, romance, and red. Indeed, it is Valentine’s Day. This day is annoying for some but meaningful for many. She’s one of the people annoyed by this day. This girl is currently studying at Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science-Technology High School (DARSSTHS), which means that academic responsibilities consume most of her time, but of course not all. There is one question that intrigues her mind even with this annoyance on this said red day: “How long can love last?”

Two days have passed since Valentine’s Day, but her question has not been answered yet. But luckily, one of her teachers assigned a task tackling their thoughts on love. It was hard for a 15-year-old student who is still naive and young to answer this question. Love is characterized in a million words, but only those who have experienced the warmth and comfort that love gives can describe it. It comes and goes in different ways and forms. Sometimes it’s invisible. There is a kind of love you have to keep to yourself, or maybe an undying passion for something.

A teacher in Roces said that the secret to keeping a relationship is not a secret. It is done by everyone called communication. It is not about speaking but expressing what you feel. Just like the color coding the Romans did, it was an unspoken way of conveying how you feel during Valentine’s Day; During that day, she wore a purple shirt, defining her one-sided love. The girl felt reluctant to talk about love because we feel like we know everything about it when frankly, we only know little about it. Some relationships, like Mrs. Gladdys Inciong, lasted for 12 years, from being enemies to friends and from friends to lovers. But some end up when the timing gets wrong. Some passions last a lifetime, but some fade as they grow older. These prove that not everything in life lasts forever, and so does love. The only thing we can do for someone we love is to give them the best of us without expecting anything in return. In this way, we protect ourselves from agony and pain.

Once again, the sun shines brightly on her face; new knowledge and beliefs have been marked on her mind. She walked down her way to the school, knowing that starting from that moment, she would give love to those who deserved it—herself, her passion, and those around her. Valentine’s Day is not always as meaningful as people think it should be; at other times, it’s like the relationships we have with others and ourselves. We take time for each other and also take time for ourselves. Having to rely on and love someone does not mean making them your whole world. Sometimes love is chill and fun or loud and chaotic. Either way, you’ll still stick to each other because that is the power of love.

Be the Sun in Bulacan: The First Ever K-Pop Solo Concert in Philippine Arena

August 2022 - March 2023 | Volume 56

Thundering screams and quivering grounds were

experienced by the 50,000 fans of the popular 13-membered K-Pop group, SEVENTEEN, on the 17th night of December 2022. History was made as they became the first K-pop group to hold a solo concert in the largest indoor stadium in the Philippines, located in Bulacan In just two months after victorious two-night sold-out concert last October 2022 in Mall of Asia Arena called the Be the Sun in Manila, members S.coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino made a powerful comeback that surprised the Filipino Carats, the fanbase of Seventeen Despite the air-conditioned arena, the heat was felt as SEVENTEEN welcomed fans with the title song from their Face the Sun album, “Hot.” Followed by “March” and “HIT,” the full-house arena became hotter as Carats filled the enormous arena with their loudest and Carats as the large “We promised referring to emotional which only had a expressed their stage while performing their hot song, Carats let out their

As some Filipinos know, more people are drawn to the idea of residing in walkable cities where nearly everything is only a few steps away as Philippine cities become more and more congested every day. And because of this, blended structures and cities continue to be popular in the real estate industry. In fact, using public transit as your primary method of movement puts you at a severe disadvantage, no matter where you are in this country. However, even if you have a private vehicle, the continuously changing cost of gas may make you decide against driving.

Well, we definitely need safe places to walk, bike, or even skate around instead of having more freeways. To justify, not a commodity but a right is a mobility. So, would you agree that the Philippines should have limited walkable cities? The absence of widely accessible transportation is essentially and surely anti-poor. Not everyone enjoys the convenience of having a personal vehicle or being able to access affordable, reliable, and safe transportation. Even if everyone had access to personal vehicles, additional traffic and carbon emissions would result. In addition, biking or using a scooter as an alternative to getting around the city is a possibility, but to put it mildly, risky. It's also possible to walk to your location. However, it's uncomfortable. It is difficult for people to go around on foot without paying for transportation because of the small to absent pedestrian lanes, lack of pedestrian crossings, and inaccessible pedestrian flyovers for people with disabilities. It demonstrates unequivocally that humans were not considered when designing our roadways. They were designed for cars instead.

Since there is more space available outside of major cities, horizontal blended structures have already started to appear in places close to Metro Manila and even further afield. The creation of a community that offers citizens comfort and convenience is the aim of horizontal blended structures. To create whose aspirations we construct our cities for, the government must, nevertheless, play a stronger and more independent role. The human measure versus consumption-driven measure should always be considered when examining the private sector participation in our public realm. Instead, accessible walkways, real streets with room to walk, green public areas, bike lanes, crosswalks, Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) stops with respectable amenities, and rest areas should be prioritized. The government should give high priority to infrastructure that is accessible on foot. Fortunately, there are ways to make cities more walkable, and doing so might boost regional economies and create a more equitable and sustainable environment. Blended communities are viewed as being better for the environment because inhabitants no longer have to rely on their cars or public transportation to get to various locations, in addition to making everyday commutes easier. These kinds of initiatives frequently promote urban growth, which furthers the goal of a cleaner, more sustainable environment. The number of individuals returning to the roadways has effectively ended the pandemic, despite the fact that it is still present. Our volume and mobility needs are too great for our streets to handle. We need means to go around that are simple, secure, and dependable on our own two feet.

This might range from open spaces and parks to well-lit, safe pathways. Facilities that are designed with pedestrians in mind offer a variety of other advantages in addition to encouraging physical exercise. For example, it can aid in lowering pollution and traffic congestion while also building a feeling of community and enhancing mental health. Given the numerous advantages of infrastructure designed for pedestrians, it is obvious that cities must give priority to this kind of construction in order to build livable and sustainable communities.

Therefore, each percentage shift from driving to walking can reduce external transportation costs by many percentage points, especially during metropolitan peak times when parking and emission expenses are on the rise. People who are less fortunate in terms of their physical, financial, and social circumstances depend on the mentioned means of transportation. The walkable city can assist in accomplishing goals for social fairness and economic opportunity by enhancing non-motorized transportation. The external expenses would be significantly lowered if individuals switched from motorized to non-powered modes, like walking. People may save a ton of money by avoiding public transportation and opting to walk instead. In fact, walking can absolutely replace relatively lengthy motor vehicle journeys, short motor vehicle trips, and other types of travel in a city that is walkable.

Living in a walkable community has health benefits in addition to being good for the economy and the environment. It follows that there are numerous benefits and advantages to residing in a city. Living in a walkable community has economic

RESEARCHERS HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SOURCE OF A STRANGE SIGNAL; TWO BLACK HOLES ORBITING ONE ANOTHER AS IF IN A BINARY STAR SYSTEM

Back during the days of the pandemic, Pebbles B SanchezOngang, witnessed the death of their 14-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named MommyKi This loss was what caused her to reflect upon the struggles of owning and maintaining a pet She thought to herself, "What if there was an app that allowed owners to provide for their pet in one tap?" And with an unbreakable resolve, she ad her husband created the MommyKi app

the app, users are obligated to sign up by inputting personal information, which will then lead them to a landing screen to access the app's many features

As mentioned prior, the app allows users to buy or sell supplies, which might make some concerns for the genuineness of the products Thankfully, as confirmed by its developers, they will be implementing a system that guards the app against false sellers Users will also have the option to create a "timeline" sort of gallery for their dear companions called "Pawfiles"

PAGASA: PAGASA:

The app has been featured on various platforms and podcasts, notably TV5 and One PH The owners have mentioned that, though the project is funded by themselves personally, some of the income will be donated to charities and organizations that support the lives of all pets

According to Health For Animals, there are over 1 billion pets worldwide; not including unregistered ones With pets and companions becoming more and more common, the demand for supplies will be greater than ever before, and maybe, MommyKi, is just the perfect solution for what the future holds for us

On the 21st of May 2019, two gravitational wave observatories in the USA and Italy, named Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo, respectively, captured a strange signal It was named GW190521 and has been the subject of many studies surrounding its potentially destructive origins due to its eccentric behavior compared to previous recordings Due to the behavior of the signal, it was interpreted to have been the effect of two black holes orbiting each other, being the remnants of two stars inside a binary star system Due to this many scientists have drawn conclusions on what may have caused and what will happen to them

Matteo Breschi, a doctoral student and researcher, elaborates that the scenario that was previously mentioned explains the signal’s origins better than any other hypothesis It may be that the duo of two black holes could have been two stars that orbited each other for a period of time and expired at the same time

Though an answer has finally been proved, the search for conclusive evidence for the phenomenon is yet to be found, and many more questions have been opened up

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) states that cloudy skies along with isolated rain showers are to prevail over the entire country for the aforementioned reasons It is also likely that the aftereffects will persist even after the season ends due to the behavior of tropical weather, specifically in the Philippines

The northernmost part of Luzon is also expected to witness intenser winds compared to the rest of the country, accompanied by rising coastal waters This may affect the fishing economy, as well as the ecosystem of many underwater creatures in the country

With this, PAGASA has issued warnings for possible flash floods, landslides, and other natural calamities that may get more common as the rainy season progresses It is advised to take care of oneself and properly prepare for disaster

RESEARCHERS DEVELOP A RESEARCHERS DEVELOP A PASSIVE FLYING ROBOT; PASSIVE FLYING ROBOT; is artificial pollination night? is artificial pollination night?

Bees have always played a significant purpose in our ecosystem, from the luxurious honey they provide to the beautiful flowers they pollinate These past few years, however, we have started to see the rapid decline of these fuzzy insects Due to this, scientists have resulted in creating machinery to perhaps take their place in the field of pollination

The robot, being highly agile and light, is able to easily float and hover in the air It is also run by two very common sources of energy; light and wind This allows the machine to glide around the area without much worry so long as the conditions are met

The researchers are currently trying to improve the material sensitivity of the robot to increase its charging time and, with it, its lifetime

The development of this new technology is definitely an interesting take on the decline of natural pollinators, but will they really be enough to replace nature’s beasts? Or will they result in more problems than ever?

The world and everything in it is made up of atoms, but we already know that What we didn’t know, however, is that these tiny building blocks of matter are made up of even smaller particles, and it gets so small to the point where you can’t even see, feel, or notice them, and yet they’re right in front of us; everywhere we go and wherever we look

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference or commonly referred to as COP27 was held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh from the 6th to the 20th of November 2022 where delegates from every country around the world talked about the limitation of global temperature rises, climate change adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage and other topics that were related on climate change UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the importance of the conference, especially in times of alarming effects of climate change observed in 2022, such as floods in Pakistan, heat waves in Europe, and Hurricane Ian

COP27: World's respond on Devastating Effects of Climate Change amid Global Challenges

As the war in Ukraine continues, world leaders insisted that the ongoing war worsens the effects of Climate Change due to many environmental crimes that were committed by Russia on Ukrainian soil including the destruction of forests and agricultural land, the release of toxic gasses destroyed animal and plant life and emissions of 33 million tons of greenhouse gasses that contributed more heat on the Earth's atmosphere The war brought many devastating effects not only on Ukraine's environment but also on our planet's climate and atmosphere

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report published in October 2021, Africa was considered the most vulnerable continent to the effects of climate change and more than 100 million Africans will be threatened by global warming between now and 2030 This report prompted the conference to focus on compensation for loss and damage The result was agreed upon for the first time and they adopted the proposal However, the commitment to phase out fossil fuels failed to be addressed

COP27 ended with a historic deal on loss and damage fund which was considered a significant achievement of the conference Despite this many human rights groups NGOs, and environmental organizations are still worrying about the conference s failure to commit to phasing out all fossil fuels As a citizen of our country, we should act immediately before it's too late

We can contribute to lessening the impact of climate change through simple ways like reducing the use of energy, avoid from throwing waste everywhere, planting more trees to replace the cut ones or reforestation, promoting the use of eco-friendly vehicles like electric cars, and most all, use renewable energy like solar energy, wind energy, or hydroelectricity to reduce the use of energy that comes from fossil fuels which emits carbon dioxide in our Earth's atmosphere that causing climate change
