Inter nationally acclaimed bridalwear designer ROSA CLARÁ was given the task of creating the wedding gown in which Antonela Roccuzzo would say “I will” to FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi. The cerem o n y, w h i c h w a s a t t e n d e d b y a h o s t o f s p o r t s c e l e b r i t i e s , took place on 30 June in the city of Rosario (Argentina). Antonela Roccuzzo wore an exclusive mermaid-style gown by Spanish designer Rosa Clará. The dress featured an alluring deep-plunge sweetheart neckline, delicate lace straps and a sensational figure-flattering back with subtle tattoo effect and stunning guipure lace appliqués. T h e e x q u i s i t e l y c r a f t e d g o w n ’s r i c h f a b r i c s a n d d e t a i l i n g featured spectacularly overlaid lace — including French lace made on a mid-19th-century loom — delicate beaded guipure lace appliqués and silk tulle, which gave the design its gentle lines and sense of weightlessness.

Please tell us about how Sapphire Events came to life? Zama: After my two friends – who are now my business partners – threw me an amazingly elegant baby shower in 2014, a passion for event planning was ignited, resulting in t h e b i r t h o f S a p p h i r e E v e n t s S A ( P t y ) L t d .

What do you enjoy most about the w e d d i n g i n d u s t r y ? What we enjoy most is being able to celebrate love and the various journeys that our clients have travelled. We are entrusted with bringing to life, those fairytale dreams that most, if not every little girl dreams of. What advice do you have for clients in terms of them choosing or selecting from t h e s e r v i c e s o r p r o d u c t s y o u o f f e r Leading on from my fourth point above, because our brides come to us with their ‘Dream Wedding Pinterest Boards’ (which we always encourage because it gives us an idea of the direction they are trying to go), a lot of the brides find themselves with the BIG PICTURE that more often than not costs BIG BUCKS. So, we always advise our brides to have a ceiling budget in mind that they cannot or d o n ’ t w a n t t o e x c e e d , a n d i n t h a t w a y, w e work with them on trying to keep the ‘big picture’ but with a cost effective approach. For instance; instead of the crystal napkin rings which might end up breaking and reducing your refundable deposit, we show them how to achieve the same or similar e f f e c t w i t h r i b b o n , o r f l o r a l g r e e n e r y. So to all the brides out there, when you visi t y o u r w e d d i n g p l a n n e r, g i v e t h e m a b u d g e t c a p , i t m a k e s a l l o u r l i v e s e a s i e r. What is your advice for the bride and g r o o m a b o u t t h e i r b i g d a y ? I t i s Y O U R w e d d i n g d a y, s o e n j o y i t ! E n s u r e that you experience all the special elements t h a t y o u m a d e s u r e w e r e p a r t o f y o u r d a y.

through the same friend. We instantly clicked – although we’re both quite shy (and so bad at flirting) that neither of us realised for quite some time that the other was actually interested!

Thanks to a bizarre t-shirt a friend was wearing on the night we met, we embarked on a rather lengthy and hilarious (to us, at least) debate around t h e m e r i t s o f h a v i n g a T- R e x a s a p e t – w e a r e f o r e v e r g r a t e f u l t o T- R e x ’s for providing some great material to counteract our poor flirting abilities. N a t u r a l l y, t h e n o b l e T- R e x r e c e i v e d p r i d e o f p l a c e o n o u r w e d d i n g d a y w i t h c u s t o m m a d e l e a t h e r T- R e x G r o o m a n d G r o o m s m e n l a p e l b a d g e s .

The style we wanted for our wedding The most important thing to us for the day was that we enjoyed it – and for that to happen, we had to keep it relaxed, with little fuss and light-hearted.

For someone who never thought they would get married, something overly formal and stiff would not have worked for Jon, and I run the risk of getting overly stressed about things that don’t really matter – so it was all about easy-going fun with delicious food and wine – something that is a large part of our life!

We couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful venue or a more amazing team. The backdrop of Fynbos Estate created the relaxed, fun and welcoming atmosphere we were after – we made a full weekend of the wedding with a Friday night braai and a Sunday morning breakfast which tur ned the wedding into a full three days of celebrations and fun.

Every member of the team made sure that things ran perfectly smoothly - we didn’t have to think of a single thing and just knew that everything was taken care of. What more could a bridal couple wish for!

We opted for an outdoor ceremony under the shady oak trees in the farmhouse garden, garden games to keep kids (and adults) entertained, beautiful food and wine, followed by an amazing party on the dance floor which included dancing the hora!

The personal touches I had so much fun with my mom and mom-in-law tying decorations to the flower jars and hanging fairy lights to set a festive tone. Our bridal party created our very personal chuppah complete with flowers and lace from my grandmothe r. W e c o u l d n ’ t h a v e a s k e d f o r a n y t h i n g m o r e s p e c i a l t h a n o u r f r i e n d w h o i n t r o d u c e d u s , o f f i c i a t i n g a t t h e c e r e m o n y. I also had the most spectacular bridesman – my brother (pictured right).

The couple created a lovely new tradition by mixing up their bridal parties. Not only did he just go with the flow when I told him he would be wearing a coral-coloured shirt, but he took charge and made sure none of the issues that always arise on the day were even shared with me – he just took care of it.

We had custom earrings and bracelets made for me and my bridesmaids, as well a s T- R e x p i n s f o r t h e g r o o m , g r o o m s m e n and all our many brothers and nephews.

A friend of mine also did my hair and another friend designed the little wish cards and lovingly and painstakingly hand-cut each one.

Keeping with tradition We had a custom wine box made with our little wedding ‘logo’ inscribed on it. Before the cerem o n y, o u r f r i e n d s a n d f a m i l y w e r e a s k e d t o w r i t e on the little wish cards that were on their seats a n d a s p a r t o f t h e c e r e m o n y, t h e s e a l o n g w i t h one of our favourite bottles of wine were locked i n s i d e – o n l y t o b e o p e n e d o n o u r 1 s t a n n i v e rs a r y. T h a t w a s o n e o f t h e b e s t d e c i s i o n s e v e r !

Wonderful pops of festive colour were introduced by R u t h ’s c o r a l s h o e s a n d t h e

O n o u r a n n i v e r s a r y, w e o p e n e d t h e b o x , e n j o y e d the wine while reading the heart-warming and often hilarious notes – this was an amazing way to relive the day a year on.

We also had kitkes on all the tables and at the start of the reception, we all broke bread together following the Jewish Shabbat tradition.

T h e o t h e r s p e c i a l i t e m w e c r e a t e d w a s a f i n g e rprint tree – I made a sketch of the bare trunk and branches and all our guests made “leaves” with their fingerprints using coloured ink pads. We now have this beautiful keepsake hanging in our home.

The special moments I think there are just too many to mention! Seeing people start to filter in on the Friday evening was such an exciting moment knowing that it was all about to happen and we had so many wonderful people around us to share the excitement with.

Getting ready with my dearest girlfriends and my mom, having my two dads walk me down the aisle, seeing Jon waiting at the chuppah for me, sharing our first dance, listening to the most amazing speeches, being hoisted in chairs as everyone danced the hora, and partying the night away with some of the best and craziest people we have the pleasure of calling our friends and families.

Seawater would only affect some gems, but always err on the safe side; don’t spend long periods of time in the sea wearing your jewell e r y. Candice and Bryan met seven years ago at the advertising agency where they both worked. M y m i n d c h a n g e d s o many times, because I didn’t know where to start, but I have Pinterest to thank for all the ideas. I eventually went with a neutral hessian theme as the backdrop, and incorporated pops of pastel colours with my flowers. I was lucky in that the venue was so stunning and had a very relaxed and rustic feel, so I really didn’t need to do too much. Also, I didn’t want to take away from the enchanting feel of the venue.

W h a t w a s t h e b r i e f f o r y o u r h a i r, m a k e u p a n d t h e p h o t o g r a p h y ? I wanted soft and natural colours for my make-up. I don’t wear much make-up in my daily life, so it was important to me to not look completely different on my wedding d a y. M y h a i r w a s i n s p i r e d b y K a t e M i d d l e t o n , D u c h e s s o f C a m b r i d g e , a n d a n u p - d o of hers which I saw on Pinterest. My overall wedding look was classic, to compliment my dress. My hair and make-up stylist, Brenda Roebert, worked her special magic, and no amount of happy tears could ruin my make up!

What are your pre-wedding beauty tips, for our brides-to-be? Get lots of sleep! Plus, the day before the wedding, us ladies went for manis, pedis, hand and face masks.

And what about your dressâ&#x20AC;Ś? I had envisioned having my dress made, and I had a very specific choice in mind, so booked a consultation at a bridal boutique just to try on a few different styles to determine the right style for my body type. After trying on a few dresses, there was one that I fell in love with. It was a soft champagne coloured bohemian dress. I landed up paying for it right there and then and going home with it that day!

This was five months before the wedding, which I thought was perfect, since the dress plays a big part in setting the tone of the wedding, how you will do you hair and make-up etc. Unf o r t u n a t e l y, w h e n i t c a m e t i m e t o h a v e m y d r e s s a l t e r e d , s i x w e e k s b e f o r e t h e w e d d i n g , t h e r e was a fault in the dress that could not be fixed. So, there I was, six weeks before my big day w i t h n o d r e s s . L u c k i l y, m y e y e c a u g h t a n o t h e r o n e t h a t I l i k e d , i t w a s a c o m p l e t e l y d i f f e r e n t style to my initial dress, it was more of a princess dress, quite unlike me (I had thought). When I slipped it on, it fit like a glove, absolutely no alterations were needed. C a n d i c e â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s satin sheath gown by Bride&co

I t ’s l o a d s o f p l a n n i n g a n d i t c a n b e o v e r w h e l m ing. In fact, I got a lot of good advice and ideas, just by chatting to my friends. Since the process is already overwhelming, finding great suppliers who make you feel comfortab l e a n d a t e a s e , g o e s a l o n g w a y. The appeal here lies in the experiences that one can have – such as forest hikes looking for lemurs, or scuba diving with manta rays. Once the guest has decided what they would like to contribute, they can select an item and the payment is made through their c r e d i t c a r d o r b a n k t r a n s f e r. S o m e i t e m s m a y b e a v a i l a b l e f o r m u l t i p l e p u r c h a s e (such as cocktails on the beach), and some may be single purchase only (such as tours). As soon as an item is purchased, the available quantity is reduced for the next guests. Lemony twist

When Katelyn (baker and food blogger) married Antonino (chef and c h o c o l a t i e r ) , i t f o l l o w e d t h a t a n e x t r a - o r d i n a r y c a k e w a s c e r t a i n l y, o b v i o u s l y, r e q u i r e d t o t a k e c e n t r e s t a g e … a n d t h e s e t w o d i d n o t disappoint!

“ W e l o v e b a k i n g t o g e t h e r, ” s a y s K a t e l y n , w h o a d m i t s , “ W e ’ r e a l s o control freaks and didn’t trust anyone else to make it! I’ve always hated that the (expensive) cake is served at the end of the wedding and nobody eats it because they’re too busy dancing. So, we decide d t o s e r v e i t f i r s t ( I l i k e t h e i d e a o f e a t i n g d e s s e r t f i r s t ) . ”

Katelyn wanted something completely different from the usual wedding fare. “Some brides stress about the dress. Others agonize over t h e d e c o r o r s t a t i o n e r y. N o t m e – I w a s a l l a b o u t t h e c a k e ! ”

The cake itself was baked the day before the wedding in order to keep it super moist. “Each layer was soaked in a tangy lemon syrup, a b a k e r ’s s e c r e t w e a p o n w h i c h m a k e s a l l t h e d i f f e r e n c e ! ” s h a r e s Katelyn.

Katelyn and Nino chose this special cake as it is the first recipe w h i c h t h e c o u p l e h a d e v e r b a k e d t o g e t h e r. R a s p b e r r y i s h e r f a v o u r i t e f l a v o u r, w h i l e l e m o n i s h i s . T h e v a n i l l a b u t t e r c r e a m w a s s c e n t e d w i t h spiced rum which the couple brought back from their recent trip to Mauritius.

“We assembled it right in front of our guests at the wedding reception. I decorated it with olive branches to bring in a bit of Italy (since I a m n o w, h a l f - I t a l i a n a f t e r a l l ! ) , a n d l e m o n b r a n c h e s a n d p o m e g r a n ates from the Riebeek-Kasteel area. The cake was perfect – fragrant,

moist, not too sweet or rich, and was the perfect pairing for the Ayama MCC, my favourite bubbly!”

The couple also cured their own leg of prosciutto with charcutier Richard Bosman, a whole year and a half before the wedding (right after their engagement). The prosciutto was then carved at the wedding at the start o f d i n n e r. K a t e l y n e n t h u s e s a b o u t a n o t h e r d e l i g h t f u l p e r s o n a l e l e m e n t : “We also had a ‘make your own wish for us’ confetti table where guests could mix various herbs (with meanings) with rice (traditional for Italian w e d d i n g s ) t o t h r o w a t u s a f t e r t h e c e r e m o n y. ”
