EDITORIAL Six intensive years have passed since Demac and Lenko took the first steps toward unification. Since then, much has happened: standards have been raised, people have progressed, and numbers have grown. In the last few years in particular, our successes and turnover have increased exponentially. This was all made possible due to the technological breakthroughs achieved in partnership with the Leitner Group. Through an internationalization campaign that brought direct and indirect exports to a number of different countries, we have been successful in achieving rapid growth abroad. A key part of our success has been that in the past year, we have once again demonstrated growth in our core markets in the Alpine countries. A solid company needs solid partnerships. The close cooperation we have with our customers is highly important. Your trust and suggestions on our products and work contribute greatly to our progress and form the crux of our success. Thanks to our constant efforts to improve our quality and services, as well as our investments in perpetually developing our products, the Demaclenko brand has gained recognition, value and strength over time, and serves as the ambassador for high quality and dependability. The next decisive step is to build and move into our new company headquarters; this step has become necessary due to our increasing employee numbers and expansion into new specialty domains. At the same offices as Leitner Ropeways and Prinoth, we form a winter sport technology center and a unique pool of technology in our industry. We have created a strong position for ourselves and have laid solid foundations. We remain confident that DEMACLENKO is now a permanent fixture in the market. We have set our eyes on the future and are ready for new challenges. We want to continue building our path step by step, using our products, technologies, work, and our passion for snow. PAOLO PININFARINA ON THE VENTUS 4.0:

POWER, TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN

VENTUS 4.0

05

The Ventus 4.0 is a compact snow gun with soft, rounded lines that pairs harmoniously with the alpine surroundings. Its unique design combined with its high performance makes this a winning product.

THE VENTUS 4.0 SETS A NEW STANDARD STRONG, QUIET AND MODERN: DEMACLENKO’S VENTUS 4.0 SET A NEW STANDARD FOR SNOWMAKING IN 2017. THE NEW SNOW GUN, DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DESIGN STUDIO PININFARINA, IS SET APART BY ITS STRONG PERSONALITY AS MUCH AS ITS BEST-IN-CLASS PERFORMANCE. The futuristic appearance of DEMACLENKO’s Ventus 4.0 wasn’t the only thing to shock the snowmaking industry. In addition to its modern design, developed in partnership with internationally renowned design studio Pininfarina, it also features improved energy efficiency, reinforced snow output and particularly quiet operation.

heat energy, leading to a shorter start-up process and lower energy consumption while the machine is in operation. By optimizing the nucleators and nozzles, the Ventus 4.0’s performance under marginal temperature conditions is also greatly enhanced, so that at one degree below dew point snow can be produced.

The development phase was preceded by intensive studies, which led to radical changes. Compared to previous models, power consumption has been markedly reduced, resulting in an energy savings of around 20% with snow output remaining the same. Maximum water throughput is around 143 US-GPM, while 27 HP are required for an output of 118 Yd3/h.

Additional features include a built-in weather station and an LED strip that runs along the chassis. The lights add clean, sleek lines and also serve as status indicators. The fact that there are no external protruding parts makes for easy maintenance and cleaning and simultaneously gives the machine a strikingly sleek look. The sides open with quick-connect couplings for easy maintenance access.

The machine is controlled by a touch display and the proven Demaclenko Control box, which is fitted with robust power electronics. Built-in WiFi capabilities also mean that the Ventus 4.0 can be easily controlled anywhere from a smartphone or tablet. The valve structures are directly routed to the nozzles, which results in a compact block system. In this way, the snow gun produces much less

VENTUS 4.0

06

Finally, by adding proven silent blades and a more aerodynamic blower, it was possible to achieve low-noise operation and reduced sound frequency. Because of this, the Ventus 4.0 is also perfect for use in residential or tourist areas where it is important to maintain quiet and pleasant alpine surroundings.

SÖLLERECK – FLORIAN SCHALBER We were very satisfied with the Ventus 4.0. Beyond the good quality of the snow, we were also surprised by its strong output and how much the gun is able to produce. The low 20 kW power input is also positive. In addition to this, the Ventus 4.0 has a very striking appearance. The LED status indicator strip running around its body makes the snow gun unique.

BERGBAHNEN KAPPL – GEBHARD JÄGER We were especially surprised by the good amount of snow the Ventus 4.0 could produce with the low power input of 20 kW. Especially in long field lines, reduced power usage is enticing and makes a significant difference. Technologically speaking, the device is very well constructed and its reduced weight makes transport easier.

DEMACLENKO FURTHERS ITS MARKET POSITIONING IN CHINA THE COMPANY‘S THIRD STRONGEST MARKET, DEMACLENKO HAS BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE THE STRENGTH OF ITS PRODUCTS ON THE CHINESE MARKET YEAR AFTER YEAR. IN 2017 AS WELL, THERE WERE A NUMBER OF HIGH-PROFILE COMPANIES PUTTING TRUST IN OUR KNOW-HOW AND QUALITY. One of these was the Beijing National Stadium, better known as the “Bird‘s Nest.” Last year, for the first time Demaclenko’s snow guns were used to create a winter wonderland inside the stadium. This “snow park” is created every year during the winter months, and its glistening splendor in the mid-

Participation in Alpitec China, which took place from January 24 to 27 in Beijing, also turned out to be particularly important. This trade fair for skiing and snow technologies, which celebrated its tenth edition in 2018, was held in partnership with ISPO Beijing and serves as an entryway into the Asian market. In 2018 DEMACLENKO used this platform to forge new customer contacts and share its range of efficient onestop solutions.

dle of the city always impresses tourists and residents with something new. In the Chongli district, where most of the snow events will be held during the 2022 Winter Olympics, Demaclenko’s technical expertise has been requested as well. The region is known for its large number of ski resorts that offer winter athletes a wide selection of diverse possibilities. To ensure this diverse offering for the future (in addition to Wanlong Ski Resort, one of China‘s largest ski regions) in 2016 the newly built Fulong Ski Resort also invested in Demaclenko‘s high-performance products.

THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE SKI RESORT BY DEMACLENKO AND PRINOTH:

SNOWMAKING, SLOPE AND FLEET MANAGEMENT, ALL ROLLED INTO ONE PLATFORM WHEN EXPERTS IN SNOWMAKING AND SNOW-GROOMER SPECIALISTS WORK TOGETHER, TOP-OF-THE-LINE, TAILOR-MADE TECHNOLOGIES FOR TOMORROW’S EFFICIENT SKI RESORTS ARE THE RESULT. THE COMBINATION OF DEMACLENKO’S SNOWVISUAL SNOW-MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE AND PRINOTH’S SNOW HOW SOFTWARE FOR FLEET MANAGEMENT AND SNOW MEASUREMENT PROVIDE CUSTOMERS WITH A GREATER TECHNOLOGICAL EDGE IN 2018. Efficient workflow on the slopes, maximum product performance and optimal use of available resources are key factors in a ski resort’s profitability. One software program that provides ski resort directors a comprehensive overview of data and reports offers a clear competitive advantage. The newest project carried out in partnership between DEMACLENKO and PRINOTH deals with exactly that: through the combination of both companies’ software solutions – Snowvisual from DEMACLENKO and Snow How from PRINOTH – a unique pool of information is obtained to provide a comprehensive overview of the entire infrastructure.

GROUP

09

The advantages are obvious: whether controlling the snowmaking system, managing the snow groomer fleet or viewing the 3-D snow measurement system, everything is centrally available and can be accessed using the built-in user interface. This has a positive impact on reducing operating costs and improving the planning and monitoringof work flows and resources. There is a special bonus as well—third party snow guns and snow groomers can be paired with the open platform, and snowmobiles, for example, can be added at a later time. The software is tailored according to the individual needs of customers, making it an important tool for optimizing operations. The cooperation of two leading brands has brought snowmaking and slope and fleet management to a new level. Customers benefit from double the expertise from two companies, who are paving the way toward the digitalization of efficient ski resorts of the future.

DEMACLENKO LAUNCHES NEW PROJECT IN THE UNITED STATES 75 TITANS FOR WEST VIRGINIA JUST AS THE WINTER SPORTS SEASON IS ENDING IN NORTH AMERICA, DEMACLENKO IS LAUNCHING A MAJOR PROJECT IN THE UNITED STATES. THE MANAGEMENT OF SNOWSHOE MOUNTAIN RESORT, A MEMBER OF THE ALTERRA MOUNTAIN COMPANY, HAS CONFIRMED THE PURCHASE OF 75 DEMACLENKO TITANS 2.0 TO EQUIP THEIR SLOPES. TO DO SO, THEY HAVE CHOSEN THE MOST POWERFUL SNOW GUN ON THE MARKET, CAPABLE OF PRODUCING 137 YD³/H DURING THE BRIEF “WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITIES” OF LOW TEMPERATURES. A few figures on the project: as of next season, the customer will be investing 4 million dollars to modernize and expand the snowmaking system and snow groomers so as to open the slopes as early as the beginning of the month of December thanks to the new installation and equipment. The re-tooled snowmaking system will cut the resort’s energy costs and consumption significantly, and return more than 5,000,000 kWh back to the grid, i.e. 500 times the average annual domestic consumption of an American family. Among other things, this is thanks to DEMACLENKO fans, which make it possible to reduce consumption while guaranteeing high yields in snow production. Moreover, thanks to the automation of the snowmaking

system through the software program Snowvisual, the machines can be controlled better and can make more rational use of available resources. Each snow gun will have access to temperature and humidity sensors that trigger the automation software and adjust air/water ratios to ensure both high quality snow and maximum snow production. The launch of this project will mark the beginning of an important partnership between DEMACLENKO and Snowshoe Mountain and is a confirmation of the excellent work this Gilmanton based company has been doing in the United States.

PROJECTS 2017 AUSTRIA

SKILIFTE WARTH In order to provide the best winter sport conditions for guests, even early in the season, Warth’s snowmaking infrastructure was greatly expanded. In addition to its existing infrastructure, DEMACLENKO delivered 82 new snow guns and built 3 pumping stations, 120 pits and one cable network over 26 mi long. The new reservoir stands at over 6500 feet has a total capacity of 235000 Yd3. The system has a significant capacity of 11888 US gpm, thus guaranteeing a sufficient quantity of snow for main runs. The optimal operation of the infrastructure is completed by the Snowvisual control software, which brings together all elements. Not only does this enable maximum monitoring and control of all the components, but it also analyzes and assesses the recorded data for optimized snowmaking. Because of this, Skilifte Warth has one of the most modern snowmaking infrastructures in the Alps, and they are well equipped when there is a lack of natural snow.

PROJECTS 2017 ITALY

PRESOLANA MONTE PORA Due to the low elevation of the Presolana Monte Pora ski resort, located near the Po valley in Brescia, Italy, and its high relative humidity, an efficient and sophisticated snowmaking infrastructure was required in order to ensure enough snow, not only at the beginning of the season, but throughout as well. For this reason, last year DEMACLENKO was tasked with providing a total of 45 new snow guns. In addition to this, provisions have been made for two new reservoir tanks with total capacities of 45800 Yd3 and 13000 Yd3. Two new pumping stations have also been planned, with a total power consumption of 1609 hp and a total output of 3170 US gpm. There is a built-in cooling system as well, which, at a flowrate of 2377 US gpm, keeps water at the perfect temperature. This powerful snowmaking concept is completed by its ability to pair with the latest-generation control software, Snowvisual.

PROJECTS 2017 SWEDEN

STÖTEN I SÄLEN In continuation of its success story, DEMACLENKO was asked by the Swedish ski resort Stöten, located in the winter sports area of Sälen, to modernize and expand its current snowmaking infrastructure. A fully automated, all-in-one concept was provided so that the resort could immediately count on extremely efficient snowmaking technology. The work required consisted of building a new main pumping station with four main pumps as well as two prepumps with a total power consumption of 3620 hp and a water output of 5310 US gpm. The 69 new snow guns, most of which were placed on newly built slopes, were of the latest generation that pairs with Snowvisual 4.0, like the rest of the current infrastructure. To provide optimal supply to the snow guns and to ensure communication between pumping stations, cables and pipes with a total length of over 6.2 mi were laid. Because the snow guns required a noticeably reduced air supply, the energy used by the compressors was cut by more than half, dramatically reducing the resort’s snowmaking costs.

ORCIÈRES MERLETTE Last year DEMACLENKO delivered a total of 35 new snow guns to Orcières Merlette, the well-known vacation resort in Champsaur, in the French Alps. To prevent possible snow shortages, the resort has had a comprehensive snowmaking network in place since the ‘90s. To further strengthen the strategic hub of the main slopes, last year a new pumping station with a total capacity of 888 US gpm was planned. To provide sufficient supply for the snow guns, 31 new pits were built. Snowvisual offers perfect monitoring of the infrastructure, which, in addition to its smooth control capabilities, also logs and analyzes important data for energy efficient snowmaking.
